+ 0-2.A. STARTING A NEW GAME +

~ It is not possible to skip any of the introduction.

  + RECOMMEND: The first time you SAVE the game, make TWO copies:
    - One to play, the other just in case you need to start over.

    AND...

    - So you don't have to repeat the beginning introduction (unless you want to).


~ The chained book is the ESCALARIO.

  + If its secrets can be unlocked:
    - One promise is that infinite knowledge can be obtained.
    - Another is that the owner is granted every wish.


~ The opening scene shows a silver-haired man approaching a column of darkness and   inside the column is a glowing gem.
  + The man comes too close and he is sucked into the column.
  + Later, you see him standing on the sawn-off base of a large tree.


~ You see the main character, IRIS, who is descended from a family of ALCHEMISTS.
  + She is a SYNTHESIST, that is, she can make or synthesize: items, weapons,
    accessories, etc., by using a cauldron in her workshop.
  + However, she must find recipes and ingredients first.
    - Sometimes she can create a new recipe by changing the ingredients being
      synthesized.
    - Anytime you see an icon of IRIS's face, go up to it as she'll get another
      recipe there.


- The introduction shows brief glimpses of some of ALTERWORLDS.
  + IRIS and her sidekick, EDGE, travel to a number of these alterworlds.

  + These are 'worlds' that are approached through a gate of glowing pink mist.
    - Once inside the alterworld, there is a time limit to how long IRIS's party
      can stay there.
    - It is possible to extend the time by picking up a red HOURGLASS (if you find
      one)

  + They are RAIDERS and take up QUESTS to gain QUEST POINTS, money and other
    items.
    - The Quests take the party to one or other of the Alterworlds.
      * As certain Quests are completed, Quest Points increase their Raider RANK.
    - When enough Quest Points are gained, they are sent on a MISSION.
      * Completing the mission changes the chapter and introduces a new Alterworld.


~ During the introduction, you also see a couple of characters who wear red.
  - One of them will join IRIS's party, the other becomes a sworn enemy.

~ When you have control, explore the Town and pick up items.

  + BEFORE starting on your first quest.

~ There are four stores in Zey Meruza.

~ When you enter Zey Meruze:
  + Talk to all people, at least once.
    - Generally their words don't change.

    UNLESS...

    - One of them has a floating 'QUEST' above their heads (these will be later
      quests in the game).

  NOTE: Money is called 'Cole' in this game.
        - Items in store lists with grey letters mean you don't have enough Cole
          to buy them.

  NOTE 2: When you select an equipment item in a store:
          - You can choose to "buy it" OR "try it".
          - Trying it shows the Equipment Stats (what may be added when the item
            is equipped).
            > If you don't like the result, you can refuse to buy it.
          - In the description of the item, a large icon shows the item and
            small icons shows the person (or persons) who can equip it.

  + You get instructions on:
    - The BULLETIN BOARD which holds Quest Cards for you to choose from.
    - Getting (special) supplies whenever you Rank Up

~ There is only one Quest to start with:

  + RESEARCHER'S QUEST.
    - Client is EWAN in the Scripture Library.
    - REward is:
      * 100 Quest Points.
      *   3 X Nicro Cloth ..... An Ingredient.


~ Required Actions:

    1. Talk to EWAN in the Scripture Library.

    2. Go to the Forest of Valtessa and find the MAGIC STAFF.
 
    3. When found, take it to EWAN.

    4. After EWAN has tested the Magic Staff and messed up IRIS's Workshop,
       report to ANNA, Guild Secretary.

+ 1-2.B QUEST WINDOW +
++++++++++++++++++++++

~ Press [SELECT] to view any quest currently in your inventory.
  + It shows a small window on the middle left with Quest & Mission (more about
    these later).

    - Pressing [X] on any quest in the window shows the current information 
      available for that quest.

  + Information includes:
    - Clients name and location.
    - What you have to do first (usually find the client and talk to them).
      * The Client is always identified by a floating clouD saying 'QUEST'.
    - rank required for this quest
      * Later some quests appear with a rank either one below or one above the
        party's current rank.
    - There is also the objective of the request and the reward you'll get when
      the quest is cleared (completed).
      * When completed, you'll get 100 Quest Points.
      AND...
      * An ingredient called: NICRO CLOTH x 3.
    - The memo (notes about the quest) is on the right side of the book and shows
      what to do next.
      * Notes are added as information is found (e.g., when they have talked to
        EWAN, the client for the first Quest).

  + Below the box saying Quest/Mission is one which shows:
    - The party's current rank (at the moment level 03 Wind).
    - The number of Quest Points earned so far (zero).
    - The number of points needed to get to the next rank (currently 500).

  + In the upper right, is a box listing the currently accepted Quests (only one
    at the moment).

+ 1-2.C. MAIN MENU +

~ The main menu can be accessed by pressing [TRIANGLE].
  + Currently the menu box (upper left contains:
    - Item  (Lists Mana Items, Ingredients, Weapons, Armor, Accessories)#
    - Equip (allows you to equip or remove equipment)
    - Skill (Lists the skills learned - weapon or magic)
    - Reference (various notes including a list of monsters defeated)
    - Config (you can change the current configuration of the game)

  + Later other items will be added, such as Recipes.

~ There are two windows showing stats for the members of the party, EDGE and IRIS.


~ The rest of the Screen:
  + Bottom Left is a small gauge showing IRIS's Alchemy Level (Currently empty).

  + The amount of money you have.

  + A Brown bar across the bottom of the screen.
    - On the left is a description of the menu item currently highlighted.
    - On the right is how long you've been playing the game.

  + Exp Level 1; needs 70 EXP to raise to the next level.
  + Blades Level 1; needs 100 BP to raise the level.
  + HP   65/65 (blue bar shows the current amount of HP).

       Attack = 60
       Magic Atk = 25
       Defense = 51
       Magic Def = 29
       Speed = 45

  + Equipped: Pyre Blade & Mist Armor (no accessaries).

  + Skills:

    PYRE BLADE ..... Using the weapon to cast a fire spell (several hits)

IRIS:
  + Level 1; needs 70 EXP to raise to the next level (same as EDGE).
  + HP   49/49 (blue bar).

       Attack = 21
       Magic Atk = 51
       Defense = 29
       Magic Def = 51
       Speed = 53

  + Equipped: Alchemist Staff & White Separates (no accessaries).

  + Skills:

       MANA STORM .......... A series of magic hits in a small area.
                             - Down pointing arrows indicate the monsters included.
                             - Adjust the area to include the strongest monster.
    ELEMENTAL CONVERSION ... Converts damage to money (Cole)
                             - Affects a single monster with several hits.
                             - USE mostly when the monster's HP is low.
                             - But it hits hard so also use to more quickly reduce
                               a monster's HP.

+ 1-1.E. TALK TO EWAN (SCRIPTURE LIBRARY) +

~ The Quest asks you to talk to EWAN.
  + Ewan is an Alchemy Researcher.
  + He wants you to find a MAGIC STAFF that is supposed to be in the FOREST OF
    VALTESSA.


~ When you leave the Library, you are hailed by a Fairy.
  + He is going to give you your first ride in a Fairy Taxi for free.
    * He offers to take you to West Bridge but IRIS asks to go to her Workshop.
    * Probably best to wait until later before you use him again.


~ In the Workshop, you can SAVE or LOAD the game...
  + This is the only place you can SAVE.
  SO...
  + SAVE! Whenever you are in the Workshop.
    - You really DON'T want to lose a half-hour or more of playing the game...

  + You'll see the cauldron.
    - Can't use it yet.
    - When you can, standing beside it will show an exclamation point (!).

        - Barrel's contents are at ramdom (may contain nothing).
        - Sacks usually contain the same item each time, particularly in Town.

~ From the Workshop:

  + On the East side of the Building.
    - Chest contains LEGION ORE (ingredient)

    - Stand on wooden platform at edge of lake and press [X] to get MERUZE WATER.

  + Head East and North to the first intersection.

~ From the Grocery Store:
  + Take the narrow pathway East past the Rio Bookstore.    

    - Slash the two Barrels near a couple of women talking.

    - In a square with a small girl walking:
      * Sack with 17 Cole.

    - In house up stairs from the square:
      * Sack with ZUFTUFF WATER (ingredient)

    - Take narrow path South from the square and go around the building:
      * Slash the Barrel.
      * Open chest for SALT (ingredient).

  + No need to go further as you can do nothing yet, but the Monument is
    further East on this path.


~ Return to the Grocery Store and head North to the Fountain Area.
  + Go East until you go up some stairs, then past two children and a woman.

  + South from the woman takes you to landing stage by the lake.
    - Sack with Gash Twig.
    - Chest with MYSTERIOUS SEED.

  + Don't bother go further East yet.

    - But if you want to:
      * You'll find a sack with UNI (an item that can cause damage in battle).
      * Under the Chief's House a passage leads to a second house.
        > You can jump over the boxes or slash them and the jar.
        > In back of that is a chest with DIVINE SHIELD.
   

~ North from the Fountain Area:
  + When you get to the area in front of the Guild House, head East to the Tavern.

    - Behind the Tavern is a chest with NICRO CLOTH.

    - Up steps to the South-East of the Tavern is a sack with 32 Cole.

    - Inside a room off the Tavern's main area:
      * Chest with NECTAR (Revise one after knockout - no HP).

    - Go back to the Workshop and SAVE!

~ WATCH HP!! 
  + Use SPINACHERB to heal (adequate for now).


~ Most items dropped by Critters are ingredients.


~ All critters are presently WHITE or RED.
  + EDGE and IRIS need to level up before any Blue Critters appear.

  + Mini Puni and Puni take two hits to be defeated.
    - They may drop a PUNIBALL.
    - Mini Puni may call for help; if successful, a big brother Puni appears.

  + Kobold takes three hits.
    - It may drop TUFTS.

  + When you come to a large RED CRITTER:
    - If your time is getting low, slide past this critter.
    - Defeating these monsters TAKES TIME.
      * IRIS & EDGE's stats are still low.

  + Bar at top left of screen:
    - Blue "Cards".
    - Certain cards have icons of our characters AND of the Monsters.
    - The sequence (from right to loft) shows the ORDER that each person/monster
      will fight.
      * As characters get stronger or develop special skills, you can use the
        information on the bar to make your fight more effective.
      * Answering questions, such as: "Which monster do I attack first? The
        strongest OR the next to attack?"

  + On the right is a different Bar which shows the amount of Mana Power (MP, to a
    max of 9) is available for use of special skills.
    - The visible part of the bar must be filled before there is an increase of MP.
    - Each regular attack adds 5 points to the bar.
      * Mana Attacks use 1 OR MORE MP (one MP is a full 10-points).
      * If the 10-point bar isn't full, the MP will still take as many points as
        needed, taking them from the previous bar(s).
      * When the MP guage is zero, MP cannot be used.

  + Bottom left a brown bar for the BURST.
    - When filled during the fight a BURST CHAIN starts.
    - During a BURST CHAIN, the Mana Power bar is filled (no matter how much was
      there before).
      * TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT !!!!

  + Above the head of one of our characters is the Battle Menus Choices.
    - These include:
      * Attack (a red weapon)
        > an ordinary hit (type and number of hits depends on the weapon).
      * Skill (a blue circle).
        > Allows person to use a mana skill if MP is available.
      * Guard (a shield)
        > Guards against attack (useful when HP is low and no helaing items.
      * Flee (grey boot against a blue background).
      * Item (shows an item bag)
        > Use direction keypad to move between types of items
          = Healing items.
          = Attack Items.
          = Support items (medicines with particular effects).

  + Below right are boxes showing the current information for each party member.
    - The colored line (gauge) shows how much HP is still available.
      - Blue when filled.
      - Green when some HP is gone.
      - Yellow guage = HP too low.
        * When the person wilts and says something like "Doesn't look good!"
          > HP is dangerously low.
          > USE A HEALING ITEM.
            = Character can use an item for themselves or for another member
              of the party.
            = If used for themselves, character will still be able to fight
              after using item.

    - Amount of EXP earned is shown.
    - Amount of Blades Points (BP) earned is also displayed.

~ IRIS's magic doesn't work well on this critter, but fire does.
  + Have EDGE use his PYRE BUNKER Mana Skill (multiple hits) throughout the Battle.
    * Especialy during BURST CHAIN MODE.

  + In the first part of the battle, have Iris just hit it with regular ATTACK.

  + When BURST CHAIN MODE starts:
    - Have IRIS Use the ELEMENTAL CONVERSION Attack (multiple hits).
      * It gets quite a large amount of Damage (250+).
      AND...
      * It gets you extra MONEY.

  + You'll also get bigger Chain points which increases EXP.

  + The Battle will end much faster (but it probably won't be a Fast Fight).
