Version History

Version 1.0- 7/25/02- I wrote this guide. It included all of the Hero, Neutral, and
Dark chao's first evolutions.

Version 1.1- 8/4/02- I added the Table of Contents, Version History, and some of the
second evolution chao.

Version 1.2- 8/15/02- Added some more second evolution chao. As you can see, I am
far from finished with the secondary evolution guide. I am trying to work and I will
update as soon as I get time and when I find out how they actually look.

Guide Introduction:

I wrote this guide because I thought people would like to know about chao and their
evolutions. Chao are artificially intelligent life forms that live in a world of
splendor. There are many types of chao. They can all be branched into about three
different categories, namely, Hero, Dark, or Neutral. Chao for about five years,
and then they die or go into the process of rebirth, depending on the way they were
treated during their prior existence. Please note that one chao year equals about
three hours of game time. This means that if you have a chao that is two years old,
in about three hours of spending time in the garden will raise them in age by about
one year. Also, you can expand their life span by feeding them strong fruits. I
have read that each strong fruit they eat will increase their life by ten minutes,
but I do not know if this is true. Chao also have different personalities, and
grades, which are pre-determined. Each chao is different and acts differently. The
way they act may depend on how you treat them. If you treat them with love, they
will skip towards you and act affectionately. If you abuse a chao, it will hate you
and in the case of major abuse towards a chao, it may even attack you. Now
you know the basics of chao, so Welcome to the Wonderful World of Chao!

Basic Evolution and Evolving your chao
***********************************************

Introduction :

Your chao will take different evolutionary pathways, depending on who you raise the
chao with, and which type of animals or chaos drives you give it. A chao will become
Dark if you pet it with Shadow, Eggman, or Rouge. A chao will become Hero if you pet
it with Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles. If you treat a chao with equal love from both
sides, it will become a Neutral type. Remember, you have to feed your chao chaos
drives/animals before it evolves into an adult. You will know that your chao is an
adult when you see a tear-shaped cocoon form around it. Make sure you feed your
chao fruits or the fruits from trees located within the gardens. You must also
spend a lot of time in the garden if you want it to evolve. These are the types of
chao and how you can get them:

***********************************************
Attributes-

Swim- Feed your chao lots of swim animals and/or yellow chaos drives. The swim
animals are: penguin, seal, and otter.

Fly- Feed your chao lots of fly animals and/or purple chaos drives. The fly
animals are: peacock, parrot, and condor.

Run- Feed you chao lots of run animals and/or green chaos drives. The run animals
are: boar, bunny, and cheetah.

Power- Feed you chao lots of power animals and/or red chaos drives. The power
animals are: bear, tiger, and gorilla.

***********************************************

Pet your chao with Hero characters, feed them with Hero characters, and raise
them (give chaos drives/animals) with Hero characters. All of the Hero chao are
mostly white in coloration, except their patterns.

Swim- This chao’s horns will get longer and become flattened along their head. They
will have green/yellow/blue colors on their body, horns, and feet.

***********************************************

and raise them with Hero and Dark characters. All of the Neutral chao have varying
colors and very different anatomy.

yellow belly. It will also have a blue tail.

Second Evolution Chao
***********************************************
Introduction:

Now that you have read about the first evolution chao, you are ready to be amazed at
what you can turn those chao into for their second evolution. But first, I will
explain a little more about second evolution. Do you know how the first evolution
(from a baby to an adult) is right? It has a light blue cocoon. Well, there is NO
cocoon for the chao’s second evolution. This is a tedious, gradual change that is
only noticeable over time. You can notice it a little bit after you give the chao
animals or chaos drives, after they take their nap. But remember to be patient and
you will get the desired effects. The second evolution chao are most definitely
worth the time and effort, because they are very special and look fantastic.

Tips on Raising your Chao
***********************************************

Chao Raising-

- If you want to raise your chao, you must feed them fruits, nuts, chaos drives, and
animals. You can get nuts from the trees in any of the three gardens, fruits from
the Black Market, and chaos drives and animals from the stages. They can be fed to
your chao by any of the characters you have already visited the chao gardens with.
You must have found a key in the levels in a Blue Chao Box.

- There is a trick to evolve your chao quickly. Actually, I know of two ways. The
first way is to leave the Gamcube on overnight, or for a period of time to
accumulate hours to make it evolve. The other way is to force feed your chao. You
can do this by feeding it nuts, or buying fruits from the Black Market. The best
fruits to buy are the Chao fruits, mushrooms, or the chao’s favorite fruit. Try to
raise the chao’s stamina to about level 15 or 16. This is a great method and can be
accomplished in a fraction of the time it would normally take waiting. I suggest
you use the second way because it is better than leaving the Gamecube on and
starving your chao.

- You can reuse chaos drives and animals! Go to the pillar in the Hero garden and
prop your chao up against it and stand a bit away from it and let go of the animal
or drive. The chao should gain the points, but the drive/ animal should have popped
behind you. You can also use Heart Fruit to jam the chao in one place and stand on
the outer edge and do the trick. Or, if you want to be honest, just get the pure
chaos drives and feed them the normal way.

***********************************************
Chao Breeding-

- To breed two chao, wait until they get flowers around them and put them next to
each other.

- If you do not want to wait that long, buy two heart fruit from the Black Market
and feed one to each chao and put them next to each other. One should walk up to
the other and they will both get up and do a little dance, and, viola! You have a
new egg.
