Gene Cocoons: 20
Secret Cocoons: 6

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At the beginning of the level, walk around a bit and pay attention to the on-
screen commands to learn about the game controls. You may find some Kamikazes
scuttling around by listening for their signature shrieks. These guys explode
when they get too close, so use the B button to kick them away like an NFL
punter.

A fire is blocking your way, so walk to the left of the fire to find some
loose boards. Pick up the wrench with the Y button and smash apart the wooden
boards with the X button. Go through the hole in the wall and jump out of the
ditch. Destroy the wooden boxes with your wrench; they usually contain ammo
and first aid kits.

Down the hall, press Y next to the valve to turn off the hot water pipes and
walk past. Grab the rusted pipe from the corpse of the Russian soldier to
swap out the wrench. Climb the stairwell into the long room. Destroy the stack
of crates near the dead soldier to find a pathway leading to your first enemy.

The Explorer doesn't really do much in this situation, so run up and give it a
good whack in the noggin. After a few hits, it falls. Another one runs in, so
down it before it scratches you apart. There are first aid kids that replenish
your health in the next room. Also, the room ahead is very dark; most areas
are obnoxiously dark in this game, but you will soon gain an ability to quell
this problem.

Smash the wooden board blocking the doorway and destroy some more obstacles in
your way. Follow the corridors past the carnage until you reach a plaza.
Cutscene time.

The Overseer is severely weakend, so it only has a sliver remaining on the
health bar. The monster attacks by spitting green goo and smacking you with
its tentacles; the goo severely hinders your movement, which is annoying.
There is a first aid kit on the fountain railing if you need it, but only
three or four melee attacks are needed to put it down.

After the cutscene, run up to the soldier and kill him. The fight against the
Overseer did something drastic to your health, as you now have alien powers of
some sort. You gain the Symbiosis ability, which allows you to harvest fallen
aliens to regain health and Energy.

You can open the Character Window with the Back button to view abilities.
Upgrading abilities is at first confusing, but you cannot do anything
significant as of this moment anyways - you need Genes first.

Pick up the AK-74 from the dead soldier; to use ranged weapons, press the
Right Trigger to fire and aim with the Left Trigger; press Down on the D-Pad
to reload. In addition to first aid kits, you can also find some ammo boxes in
the room. Flip the switch on the wall to open the door.

Take out a soldier patrolling the area and target the one on the balcony. One
cool feature is that you can sort of auto-aim when holding down the Left
Trigger: it automatically targets the closest enemy if your reticle is near
one, so it makes aiming painfully easy and convenient.

Defeat the Explorer and soldier in the next room, then press Y next to the
Explorer's body to harvest it. Not only do you receive health and Energy, but
you also learn the Alien View ability. To use active abilities such as this
one, hold down the Left Bumper to open the ability window and select which
one you want to use. In the case of Alien View, hold the Left Bumper and hit
the A button. It gives you night vision to help see in the dark and also
targets enemies with an orange glow.

There is a Health Cocoon attached to the wall. You will find alien Biomass
through each of the levels that often yield items and such. These Biomass look
like cocoons, and there are different types based on coloring:

Red = Health Cocoon
Orange = Energy Cocoon
Green = Gene Cocoon
Blue/White = Secret Cocoon

Press Y next to the Health Cocoon here to harvest some health. Turn on Alien
View to help guide you through the pitch black room and take out some more
soldiers ahead. Head up the staircase and shoot the soldier around the corner,
as well as the one across from you. Drop down below and take down another
soldier and an Explorer. From where you fell down, walk to the left and peer
in the corner to locate a GENE COCOON [2/20]. Genes are used to upgrade your
abilities, so it is always important to search high and low for them.

Walk to the end of the corridor and defeat the soldiers, then walk up the
rubble to the second floor. Follow the ledge on the right to wrap around and
enter a small room at the end. Inside you will locate some grenades (which can
be used with Right Bumper) and another GENE COCOON [4/20].

If you walk over to the metal staircase and go behind it, you'll find some
ammo boxes, first aid kits, and a SECRET COCOON [1/6]. Climb up to the third
floor and get ready for some platforming. First, kill everyone in sight so
they don't distract you, then jump on the rectangular boxes at the top of the
stairs. From here, jump to your left onto the tiny platform against the wall,
then to the ledge across from you. Enter the room here for a Health Cocoon,
Energy Cocoon, and a SECRET COCOON [2/6]. Very tricky find.

Back on the other side of the third floor, take down any more soldiers and run
to the end of the catwalk. Ignore the room on the left for now and proceed to
the end; push the blue canisters off the ledge to send them rolling straight
into the wall and creating a huge hole.

Now step inside the room and kill the Explorer and Kamikazes inside. Turn on
Alien View and have a look around; you'll find an Energy Cocoon and a GENE
COCOON [6/20]. Now return to the second floor and check out the mess you made;
watch out, since more enemies appear on the second floor.

As soon as you enter the new room, hang a left to spot a GENE COCOON [8/20]
against the wall. Exit the room, slay the Explorer, then drop off the ledge to
end up in an area similar to the last. There are a lot of soldiers here, so
use cover and look for the Health Cocoon nearby for support (there's also an
Energy Cocoon on the far right end).

Go up the rubble on the far left and follow the ledge to the right. It leads
you to a room with a locked metal door. Ignore it for now and pick up the ammo
boxes and first aid kits. Head to the opposite end of the floor and jump
across the gap. The room ahead contains three batteries, a switch, and two
soldiers (one of them holding a shotgun). The shotgun baddie is tough in close
range, so a grenade might be needed (don't take the shotgun though, since the
AK-74 is better at long range).

Press Y to activate the trio of batteries and then flip the switch. Now jump
back across and continue the other end to reach a staircase. Proceed to the
third floor.

Walk across the bridge, then make a left to enter a room containing a Health
Cocoon and a GENE COCOON [10/20]. Head the other way to descend to the second
floor (in an area inaccessible from the rest of the floor). Here, take out the
Explorers and soldiers, then smash the stack of crates to reveal a SECRET
COCOON [3/6]. Enter the nearby room.

First, kill the lone Explorer inside. There are a number of boxes inside this
room that are blocking some goodies, so use the red explosive barrels to help
clear them out; there is a Health Cocoon and a GENE COCOON [12/20] inside that
you should harvest. Now flip the switch on the end of the hallway to open the
metal door.

You are brought back to the plaza where you fought the Overseer. The place is
crawling with soldiers, so use your AK-74 coupled with Alien View to sniff out
and eliminate them all. When you are ready to explore, make a hard left from
the metal door to enter a corridor. Stay on the upper balcony and you'll find
a Health Cocoon, SECRET COCOON [4/6], and a GENE COCOON [14/20] on the
opposite end.

Drop down to the first floor and return to the central area with the fountain.
Flip the switch near the gate to open up a room and harvest the Health Cocoon
and GENE COCOON [16/20] inside. Across from the gated room is a dark room with
a SECRET COCOON [5/6] that you should get.

Return to the second floor via the staircase in the corner (activate the
battery near the stairs even though I don't really know what they do...) and
look for another sealed gate with a switch. Open 'er up and continue to the
third floor.

Wipe out all the enemies here and follow the walkway into the office. The
switch here opens a gate down near the fountain, so head on down once it has
been opened. Destroy the Explorer and harvest the Health Cocoon in the corner,
then flip on Alien View to navigate the darkened room ahead. Kill the three
Explorers lurking inside, harvesting the Health Cocoon, SECRET COCOON [6/6],
and GENE COCOON [18/20].

Leave the room and make a left to find a GENE COCOON [20/20] behind a pile of
boxes. The level ends once you proceed to the right and activate the switch.

RUN FROM BEAST [0302]
==============================================================================

Gene Cocoons: 14
Secret Cocoons: 3

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As the level name suggests, you will spend the majority of the level running
away from the large onyx monstrosity tearing through the city. Soldiers will
unsuccessfully fend it off, and you can avoid most of them without wasting
ammo since they stay focused on the Beast. In fact, you are awarded the
"Humanitarian" Achievement if you don't kill any soldiers in the level.

The Beast emerges from the flames on the left, so naturally you should run
right. Most of the areas in this level are cloaked in shadows and hard to see
since it is dusk, so Alien View may be needed when searching for the Gene and
Secret Cocoons.

Start running to the right, using the planks to get over the obstacles. When
you reach the car pileup, look around for a GENE COCOON [2/14] next to a car
up against the wall. Harvest it and use the platforms behind the car to reach
the upper ledge. The Beast is on your tail, so you don't have a lot of time to
really comb the level. By now it probably has caught up to you, so avoid the
large feet and claws.

Grab some health from the Health Cocoon on the left wall and continue forward.
Drop down the platform near the tank to find a SECRET COCOON [1/3] right under
the ledge. The second GENE COCOON [4/14] is nearby; past the tank and behind a
stack of crates.

Jump up the steps to find a Persecutor attacking a soldier. These dog-like
aliens are pretty tough and fast. They only use melee attacks, so attack with
your weapons until they close the gap and finish off with melee hits of your
own. Harvesting a Persecutor gives you the Rage ability: hold the Left Bumper
and press Y to enter a state of rage, which increases your attack strength,
slows down time, and restores your health when dealing damage. An awesome
ability, but beware - the Energy cost is expensive!

Up ahead, drop into the trench and inspect the right wall for another GENE
COCOON [6/14]. Turn on Alien View to get a better view of surroundings; the
exit is hard to find, but there is a low slope on the far left end of the
trench that you can jump onto.

Destroy the Persecutor up ahead and walk past the ruined building. Here, the
game orders you to kill all surrounding enemies. Now is a good time to test
out your Rage ability, since there are a lot of Persecutors and Explorers
running around. There is grenade ammo and a Health Cocoon behind the yellow
van parked up against the destroyed building; just a little farther is a GENE
COCOON [8/14]. There's also an Energy Cocoon on the other side of the area.

Once all the enemies are dead, the Beast smashes through the building and
inches closer to you. Time to get away! Turn on Alien View and look for a ramp
to the right of the tank. Climb the slope and enter the second trench for a
GENE COCOON [10/14]. Enter Alien View and look for a column you can use to get
out of the trench - it is on the back left corner of the trench.

Once you exit the trench, run to the right side of the area, following the
trench lining, to find a SECRET COCOON [2/3] on a platform. Sprint forward
past all the soldiers and you should be able to easily locate the next GENE
COCOON [12/14]; it is right on the wall near the right side of the road.

It appears that you are at a dead end, but fear not! Use grenades and
explosive barrels to destroy the weakened walls to the left and proceed
through the hole. Harvest the Health Cocoon and run inside the apartment
complex. You are safe from the Beast... for now...

Heal inside, eliminate the Persecutors, and heal once more as you approach a
fiery gap. Wait for the flames to lower before jumping across to the next
building. Kick away the Kamikazes inside before they can get in your face and
explode. At the stairwell, go downstairs to locate the SECRET COCOON [3/3],
then head upstairs to the roof.

At some point during the upcoming boss battle, make sure to harvest the final
GENE COCOON [14/14] on the roof (jump on the AA gun in order to reach it).

| BOSS: The Beast \_________________________________________________________
===============
This battle against the Beast is painfully easy due to the inclusion of
an AA gun here on the roof. However, the AA gun itself still isn't enough
to damage the Beast, so you must first stun it with grenades. There is
constantly respawning grenade ammo strewn on the floor, so you always
have a constant supply. Simply toss three grenades at the Beast to get it
dazed.

While moving around the roof, the Beast will attack by stabbing at you
with its scythe hands and spitting fireballs at you. They are easy to
dodge, but watch out for the explosive barrels that may be triggered by
the boss's attacks and explode in your face. Use the Energy and Health
cocoons (which also respawn) to keep yourself in tip-top shape.

Once the Beast is stunned, hop on the AA gun and begin firing away. You
can only damage the boss in this state, so hop off the gun when the boss
shakes it off and goes back to pummeling you. To make a simple boss fight
even simpler, you only have to hack off half of the Beast's health bar.
___________________________________________________________________________

With that, the level comes to a close.

KURSKAYA STATION [0303]
==============================================================================

Gene Cocoons: 20
Secret Cocoons: 6

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before you do much of anything (okay, you can at least kill the two Explorers
heckling you), make sure to harvest the SECRET COCOON [1/6] in the back of a
column near the room's center and a GENE COCOON [2/20] in the back corner to
the right of the staircase.

Descend the stairs to find a battery; activate it to turn on the switch. Pull
the switch and run back upstairs to find a Gunner running around (how did he
get in here?!). The Gunner is a shielded bug that shoots energy beams at you.
Guns don't do anything when the shield is up, so run up to the monster and
bash the heck out of it. Harvest the Gunner. Commence cutscene.

You wake up with a significantly different appearance: you have scaly plating
on your head and your arms have been replaced by chitin claws. These claws
replace whatever melee weapon your were carrying around. You are also given
the Energy Shield ability. When used (Left Bumper + Right Trigger), a shield
surrounds your body and you are able to both protect yourself from projectiles
and knock them back at their sender.

The metal door down the stairs is now open, so you can go through. Activate
the Energy Shield as you proceed through the doorway so you can deflect the
sentry gun fire back at the machines. Using the Energy Shield does not deplete
your Energy; it is only drained when the shield is hit by projectiles. While
the bullets rain down on you, aim at the sentry gun to deflect the bullets
back at it; do this until it is destroyed and repeat with the second one.

Assuming you still have Energy left, use Alien View and peer down the stairs
(if you are out of Energy, there is a respawning Energy Cocoon back upstairs).
There are tripwires on the staircase that activate explosives if you walk
through them, so jump on the railing against the wall to bypass them.

Fall down the shaft and confront the Gunner up ahead. Make sure to grab the
GENE COCOON [4/20] at the start of this room before you kill the Gunner,
otherwise a force field rises and you won't be able to backtrack to get it.

Take down the Explorers that rush in afterward and head over to the train.
Step inside the train car and run down to the end, shooting the two soldiers
and the sentry gun that greets you. Now use the ramp here to jump on the top
of the train car and proceed to the other end to find a SECRET COCOON [2/6].
Return to the ramp and continue through the subway tunnel. Harvest the Energy
Cocoon and GENE COCOON [6/20] next to the doorway of the room ahead.

A huge firefight has broken out between the aliens and the humans. Use a
grenade or two to clear out the Explorers, Persecutors, and soldiers, then
clean up the rest. Also worth noting is the ability to execute fatalaties on
weakened aliens; when the prompt appears, press Y to administer the fatality
and receive a boosted amount of health and Energy.

Exit the room into another subway tunnel, and immediately hang a right to find
a GENE COCOON [8/20] against the wall. Watch out for Kamikazes inside the
train and exit out the other side. Use the Energy Cocoon here and jump on the
ledge to the left; a SECRET COCOON [3/6] is on the ground against the train.
Immediately after, climb on top of the train for another SECRET COCOON [4/6]!

Slay the Persecutors and soldiers running around and continue to the back of
the tunnel. In the back corner is a Health Cocoon and a Gene Cocoon [10/20].
Now enter the room on the left and shoot all the soldiers in the rafters and a
few on the floor. Proceed to the right to get up to the rafters and follow
them to the adjacent room.

Eliminate the soldiers and ignore the entrance to the third subway tunnel;
continue to the back of the room, harvest the GENE COCOON [12/20], and ascend
the stairs for a short cinema. Ignore the wounded soldier's nonsense and kill
the Persecutors and Gunner that have now appeared.

Head down into the third subway tunnel. There is a force field at the far end
that hinders your progress, but you can spot a GENE COCOON [14/20] here.
Backtrack to the wounded soldier when all the aliens have been killed.

Once the soldier goes kaboom, the gate is blown open. Deal with the three
Persecutors on the other side, then pull the switch on the wall. Carefully go
down the corridor, watching out for the hole in the ground. Jump over the hole
first, then harvest the Health and Energy Cocoons before returning to the hole
and falling down.

Shoot the Kamikaze in the corner to blow it up, which also destroys the wall
in front of you. Harvest some more Energy and Health and turn on Alien View as
you enter the room ahead. It is full of tripwires, so carefully maneuver
through to the other side. As for tripwires attached to crates, shooting the
crates will detonate the tripwires and clear them out.

Keep Alien View on as you walk across the grate; there are a lot of Kamikazes
in the next room (some even hiding in boxes), so keep your guard up. Ahead,
activate the switch next to the two batteries before heading up the stairs.
In the next room, peek through the doorway and chuck a grenade at the sentry
gun before safely exploring the area.

Due to the force field on the right, stay to the left at the junction and go
down the passage, using Alien View to avoid any tripwires. In the chamber
ahead, destroy the sentry gun on the ledge behind you and clear out the rest
of the alien enemies.

In the fourth subway tunnel, hang a left to locate a SECRET COCOON [5/6] all
the way at the end. Fend off the Explorers in the tunnel as you go back to the
right and drop down onto the subway tracks to find a GENE COCOON [16/20] and
proceed to the other end of the tunnel; across from the hole in the wall is
another train car. Only the back end is sticking out from the rubble, but you
can slip inside to find the last SECRET COCOON [6/6] and some ammo/first aid
kits.

Back at the hole in the wall, continue inside and jump over the invisible
tripwires as you descend the stairs. Go across the metal grate in the
maintenance shaft and search the room for a pair of switches (one is in a
corner next to a deactivated battery). A metal door opens up in the distance,
allowing a Gunner and more Explorers to enter. Deal with them, then refuel at
the Energy Cocoon and make your way through the metal door yourself.

A Big Gunner is found at the other end of the tunnel. This fella is kinda like
a stationary Gunner. You can use Energy Shield to deflect the energy balls
back, but it is easier and more convenient to avoid them as you move closer to
the enemy. Walk behind it and slash away as the Big Gunner won't be able to
turn around and fight.

After taking down the Generator, jump on top of the train car and follow it
through the tunnel. Drop down and go inside the second train car. Slay the
Gunner at the other end and search the right wall for an entranceway. First
up, harvest the GENE COCOON [18/20] to the right of the entrance and then go
inside.

Okay, this room is strange. There are respawning Health and Energy Cocoons
inside, so that's an early indicator that you will be needing a lot of Energy
(and may be in severe danger) for this next task. First off, eliminate any and
all enemies running around. The stairs on the right lead down to a force field
and another Energy Cocoon.

Your goal is to disable the three force fields on the left side of the room.
To do this, you must deflect the energy balls shot by the Big Gunner at
switches positioned on the walls.

The first switch is next the first force on the left wall. Stand on the right
side of the force field and aim at the switch - when the energy balls hit your
Energy Shield, it should ricochet and trigger the switch. As previously
mentioned, use the respawning Health and Energy Cocoons to help get you
through this process. The second switch is on the right side, and the third is
on the right side but beyond the final force field.

Crush the Big Gunner, then approach the generator control panel. You are taken
to a screen very similar to the ability upgrade screen. In order to overload
and destroy the generator's reactor, you must toggle and move the cells to
direct the flow from the genes to the reactor core.

Technically, it is the same as upgrading your abilities; connect all the cells
so there is a direct flow between genes and the core in the center. Fiddle
around with all the cells to get them to connect; it's basically trial and
error, though it can be annoying since you do have to move cells around in
order to get the correct flow.

Now that the reactor has been disrupted, the force fields throughout the
station are offline. Proceed down the stairs and walk past the lowered force
field to end up at the intersection from earlier in the level. There are a ton
of enemies walking around here, so fend off the Kamikazes, Explorers, Gunners,
and Persecutors.

Walk to the end of the hall past the intersection to gain access to the back
end. Harvest the final GENE COCOON [20/20] and activate a second control
panel. If the force field still isn't lowered, try shooting the switch on the
wall (I think that may work). Either way, head on through to end up in the
hallway where the wounded soldier was.

Make sure to jump across the hole here and take down the soldiers at the other
end. Make your way into the subway tunnel to complete the level.

INSIDE THE PERIMETER [0304]
==============================================================================

Gene Cocoons: 20
Secret Cocoons: 4

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You start off inside a busted elevator shaft, looking for an escape route.
Slash apart the wooden boards covering the doorway and proceed up the stairs.
When you reach the open doorway at the top, toss a grenade at the sentry gun
waiting for you before making your way in. Harvest the Energy Cocoon and go
into the next room. Climb up the rubble to the top floor of the building and
search the alcove to your right for a GENE COCOON [2/20].

There are a bunch of soldiers in this building, as well as others that shoot
at you from the adjacent buildings; use Alien View to help spot the faraway
baddies. Walk through the building towards the bridge for a short cinema.

The bridge is raised, trapping you inside the building. Enemies rush inside,
so turn around and deal with them (more appear in the windows of the nearby
buildings as well). Drop down back towards the stairwell and enter the room in
front of you; kill the soldier inside and activate both switches on the wall
to turn off the alarm and lower the bridge again.

Back at the bridge, slay the Persecutors and cross the bridge to the next
building. Go into the small side room for some ammo and a first aid kit, then
proceed down the stairs. At the first doorway you come across, turn on Alien
View and watch out for the tripwire. Set it off by throwing a grenade at the
crate it's attached to and back up. Now proceed past the tripwire and drop out
of the building into the alley, where you'll find a GENE COCOON [4/20].

The first SECRET COCOON [1/4] is not far from here. Walk out into the open and
look for the cocoon on the ground. After that, continue exploring the
courtyard for another GENE COCOON [6/20] near an explosive barrel. Once you
have all those in your possession, look for an open doorway.

Defeat the soldiers, Persecutor, and Gunner in the hallway and exit outside
once more. Target the soldiers on the scaffolding above you, using Alien View
to help pinpoint them easier. Go down the slope to the entrance of another
building and step inside the basement.

As you turn to the left, you'll see a soldier getting dragged into a hole in
the wall. Harvest the Energy Cocoon and head down the hall to reach a four-way
intersection. Stand in the center of the fork and take down the Persecutors,
Gunners, and soldiers.

For some health, go to the left to find a Health Cocoon. Go straight ahead to
find a SECRET COCOON [2/6] behind some crates and a GENE COCOON [8/20] in the
side room. Go to the right to reach your destination.

Up ahead, a Persecutor jumps through a wall and pounces on top of you. Execute
the monster, then leap through the hole yourself and harvest the GENE COCOON
[10/20]. Now follow the passageway to eventually exit the basement.

The green smoke field ahead is some sort of poison gas, and your health
rapidly decreases for every second you stand in it. Quickly enter the poison
field and dash to the right to locate a GENE COCOON [12/20] on the side of the
garage. Now run the rest of the way through and harvest the much-needed Health
Cocoon on the other end.

Pass by the AA gun for now and approach the tan/orange building across from
the weaponry; there's a GENE COCOON [14/20] on the ground next to the front
porch. The next GENE COCOON [16/20] is right next to the last one - turn to
the left and enter the tiny alcove.

Now return to the AA gun and wait for a swarm of aliens to appear. You
must fend off waves of Persecutors and Gunners with the AA gun until the coast
is clear. This mission isn't hard at all due to the sheer firepower of the AA
gun.

Once the enemies stop coming, hop off of the gun and move to the building on
the left. Go inside and kill the pair of soldiers waiting for you. Ignore the
first door and ascend to the top of the staircase for a GENE COCOON [18/20],
now backtrack to the open room.

There are a few rooms inside this office. First, enter the closet straight
ahead and harvest the SECRET COCOON [3/4]. The room on the right contains a
sentry gun and the one of the left houses a soldier. There is also a hole in
the wall in this room, so go inside, climb onto the awning, and fall down to
the ground.

This next area contains a pit in the center of the long room with two walkways
on either side of it. The pit is littered with tripwires, so it's basically
instant death if you fall in. Pull the switch on the wall to lower the bridge
and proceed across. Walk over to another raised bridge and lower it using the
switch on the wall.

Shoot down the two soldiers back on the opposite end before moving on. Heal
using the Health Cocoon and harvest the GENE COCOON [20/20] on the ground.
Lower the third and final bridge and cross it to the next area.

Smash the crates blocking the doorway, then go through and look to your right.
Destroy the crates up against the wall to reveal the last SECRET COCOON [4/4].
Now proceed through the building, killing all the soldiers you come across.
At the top of the building, throw a grenade at the wooden boards across from
you. This kills the soldier inside and also creates a hole you can jump
through to reach the level exit.

==============================================================================
FIELD HOSPITAL [0305]
==============================================================================

Gene Cocoons: 18
Secret Cocoons: 5

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From your starting location, jump down and slay the hungry Persecutor. Follow
the path through a crater and walk towards a junction. Before exiting the
crater, jump on the side near the crashed van to find a SECRET COCOON [1/5] on
the side of the crater.

Defeat the pair of Persecutors and the soldiers shooting at you from the
windows. At the turn, make sure to search the back corner behind the dumpster
for a GENE COCOON [2/18]. To the left is a massive hole with jagged metal rods
covering the floor, so one step down there spells doom for the protagonist.
Instead, jump on top of the van and follow the catwalk across it. There are
more soldiers attacking at you from a bridge above.

Follow the catwalk to the building on the right and kill the baddies inside.
Exit to reach the other end of the spike pit and make sure to harvest the GENE
COCOON [4/18] on the ground.

Ally soldiers will have your back up ahead (evidenced by the green reticule
when you aim at them). With their help you should be able to easily take down
the Persecutors and Gunners. The Gunners here are bigger than the ones you've
faced before and shoot fireballs instead of blue energy balls. Make sure to
put your Energy Shield and/or Rage to good use.

At some point during the battle, collect the GENE COCOON [6/18] in the back
corner and the SECRET COCOON [2/5] to the right of the Gene Cocoon.

After taking out all the enemies, the friendly soldiers open the hospital
doors. If you missed one or both of the aforementioned cocoons, you can flip
the two switches to open the door and go outside to harvest 'em.

Walk through the field hospital, passing all the friendly soldiers and sentry
turrets. There's a shotgun here if you wish to swap out your AK-74. When you
are ready, continue down the ramp to the lower levels.

Go through the metal door and pass through the room to reach an area with
three metal doors. Defeat the Gunners and Persecutors, then pull the switch
on the wall to open all three. Use the door on the right to reach one of the
medical rooms; aside from finding a bunch of dead bodies here, there's also a
GENE COCOON [8/18] in the back.

Back in the previous room, now enter the central room to find another GENE
COCOON [10/18] behind the sentry gun. Lastly, take the door on the left to
continue your journey.

Now things are looking a lot more like a hospital. Destroy the Gunner up ahead
and then go behind the counter on the left. Pull the switch to trigger a
cutscene.

Your appearance becomes more alien-like and you pick up the Transformation
ability. Not only that, but your gun is replaced with an Energy Cannon hand.
The Transformation ability is a passive ability (like Evolution), and
upgrading it increaes your melee damage and Energy Cannon efficiency.

Pass through the laboratory to come face-to-face with a pair of Spargs. These
large bugs kinda resemble Scyther from Pokemon; they are very quick, hop and
run all over the place, and have large chitin claws similar to your own. Their
most annoying characteristic is that they can turn invisible; you can still
see them (it's a Predator-like invisible), but you'll likely have to use Alien
View to track their movements. Give them a shellacking with your new-and-
improved claws and Energy Cannon.

Go through the series of rooms and fight the Persecutors and Gunners until you
reach a staircase leading to the basement.

A Terminator is lurking here in the basement. This hulking mass of an alien
uses a suped-up gatling gun to tear through the opposition with ease. Use the
cover of the staircase and periodically lob grenades and shoot Energy Cannon
fire at the monster. Alternatively, you can run up to the Terminator and use
Rage to tear him a new one; just make sure not to fall down the giant hole in
the middle of the arena.

Perform a Fatality on the Terminator to harvest its energy, which should give
you the "Biologist" Achievement. An explosion clears out a stairwell, so head
up out of the basement. At the top of the stairs, harvest the SECRET COCOON
[3/5] to your left and slay the Persecutors and Spargs.

Drop down into the tunnel and look on the side of the ledge you just fell down
from to spot a GENE COCOON [12/18]. Now proceed to the other side of the room.
Wipe out the Persecutors and Gunners inside, harvest the GENE COCOON [14/18]
on the wall, then exit the hospital.

Go up the ramp from the hospital exit, then loop around behind the hospital to
locate a SECRET COCOON [4/5] and a GENE COCOON [16/18] on the left side; yet
another GENE COCOON [18/18] is found on the right side. That's a lotta loot!

Go through the exit gate to find a whole ton of aliens; mainly Gunners and
Persecutors. The advantage helps balance out a bit when several ally soldiers
arrive. Before you tackle the opposition, run through the gate and harvest the
SECRET COCOON [5/5] on your right. Instead of fighting the aliens head-on,
return to the gate and go up either ramp to the AA guns. Demolish the aliens
to complete the level (which is why you should get the last Secret Cocoon
before eliminating all the enemies).

==============================================================================
WAY TO THE BASE [0306]
==============================================================================

Gene Cocoons: 12
Secret Cocoons: 5

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here in the slums, deal with the Explorers and Persecutors that are roaming
around. From the level start, walk forward and hang a left in the brightened
hut to locate a SECRET COCOON [1/5]. Enter the garage in front of you and
slay the Persecutor, then flip the switch.

This opens up a gate near the entrance of the level. From the entrance, walk
to the right to find the gate and pass through. Take down the Gunner and go
up the ramp to enter the rafters above. Slay the Sparg and yank the switch
here, then shoot the explosive barrels on the other side of the rafters and
leap across for a SECRET COCOON [2/5].

The gate below should be open, so proceed through and kill the Explorer and
Sparg. Follow the trail and blast the explosive barrel to create a hole in the
wall. The poison gas field ahead is way too large for you to sprint through;
using your Energy Shield when walking through prevents you from taking any
damage, so slowly pass through with your shield up while taking any necessary
pit stops along the way.

Once you make it through the poison vapors alive, drop down from the ledge.
Head to the left and search underneath the ramp for a SECRET COCOON [3/5]. Now
proceed up the ramp towards the strange glass wall. Using Alien View, shoot
the Kamikaze latched onto the wall to tear it down up and proceed into the
room. Toss a few grenades down at the Gunners and go across the walkway to
safely reach the ground.

Enter the burning building up ahead and carefully walk through, avoiding the
Kamikazes inside and kicking them away if they get too close. Harvest the
SECRET COCOON [4/5] on the second floor of the building and then jump out the
window into the alley.

Walk out of the alley to the area below; drop down from the ledge and then
turn around as you land to find a GENE COCOON [2/12] on the wall you just fell
down from. The next two Gene Cocoons are pretty tricky to find - walk towards
the fallen helicopter and jump on top of it. Once on the helicopter blades,
walk towards the side of the building and jump on the ledge. Head to the end
to find two GENE COCOONS [4/12] and [6/12].

Drop down to the ground and get ready for a fight up ahead. Stand inside the
cockpit of the destroyed helicopter and look out at the Terminator ahead.
Stay inside the helicopter and bait the Terminator towards your location. It
will likely stop and attack you, but you can back up to the back of the
helicopter to avoid the gatling gun fire. From here, use your Energy Cannon
and grenades to defeat the Terminator.

Take out the Gunner as well and proceed into the courtyard. Harvest the GENE
COCOON [8/12] on the left side of the arena. Exit the area to the right and
enter the streets. Maneuver around the buses and deal with the Persecutors and
Gunners that come your way.

There are some goodies in this area - a SECRET COCOON [5/5] is found on the
wall to the right of where you enter the area, and a GENE COCOON [10/12] is on
the opposite side of the street from where you start off. Continue to the
left, defeating more Persecutors, Gunners, and a Big Gunner, then drop into
the circular arena below.

The final GENE COCOON [12/12] is located on the left side of the boss arena.

| BOSS: Annihilator \_______________________________________________________
=================
This monstrous alien rhino is one tough cookie. It is heavily armored,
meaning that most of your attacks will not be able to damage it. You must
aim for the boss's throbbing red belly in order to weaken and eventually
kill it. However, the problem is that you can rarely get a good look at
it. What you must do is goad the Annihilator into ramming a wall, then
shoot at the boss's stomach to damage it.

The Annihilator really only has two attacks: it will either spit balls of
fire at you from a distance or it'll use a charge attack. The charge
attack is the key to winning this battle, so avoid/deflect its fireballs
until the boss starts to run towards you. Stand near one of the walls
(either on the right or left side of the arena) and jump away just before
the boss collides with you.

Now you can only use long-range attacks when the Annihilator has fallen
over, so don't try to run up and use melee strikes. Grenades deal the
damage, but you only have a limited capacity (though there are a couple
grenade ammo boxes lying around), so your Energy Cannon will be your main
offensive tool here.

The Annihilator has a ton of health, so this battle will take quite a
while. There are several respawning Health and Energy Cocoons around the
arena. Aside from the boss, there's also a constant flow of Persecutors
to keep you distracted, so there is never a dull moment in this duel.
___________________________________________________________________________

The Annihilator explodes in incredibly cheesy fashion as you make your way
into the base.

THE MOUND [0307]
==============================================================================

Gene Cocoons: 20
Secret Cocoons: 6

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well what a surprise - a GENE COCOON [2/20] is lying directly next to you as
the level begins. What a freebie! Activate Alien View to navigate these dark
tunnels and proceed forward. With Alien View, shoot the Kamikaze crawling on
the wall to demolish it and approach the upcoming force field; you can disable
this by shooting the switch with your Energy Cannon.

At the fork, turn right for a SECRET COCOON [1/6] and then take the other path
due to the force field in front of you. Slay the Spargs and disable the force
field ahead to reach the pesky Gunner. You'll notice a column of blue light to
your right: don't get too close or you will fall in the chasm!

Enter the building and kick away the Kamikazes, then destroy the Big Gunner in
the back of the room. Exit here into a passage filled with tentagles dangling
from the ceiling. Continue through to another force field and quickly lower it
so you can get to the enemies that are attacking you from the other side.

Walk down the slope and take out the Spargs and Gunners here. There is a small
opening on the right side of the wall where you'll find a switch and an Energy
Cocoon; shoot the switch and continue down the hall. Heal using the Health
Cocoon if necessary and head towards the next force field.

This force field requires you to shoot two switches, but they are currently
inactive. Look at the wall on the left for an opening and jump through to
enter a small nook containing a GENE COCOON [4/20] and a control panel. Once
the control panel has been rewired, shoot one of the two switches to lower the
force field. Walk through the force field, then shoot the second switch - it
will raise the force field back up, but lower one in the distance.

More Spargs and Gunners ahead, so deal with them accordingly; also kill the
Big Gunner. There's another Big Gunner up ahead past the disabled force field,
along with some helpful Health Cocoons.

From the Big Gunner (number three, for future reference), turn to the right to
enter the chasm surrounding the beam of light. Walk across the bridge, shoot
the switch to your left, then blast the Kamikazes in the way and enter the
next passage. Fight against the fourth Big Gunner and Spargs, then heal and
continue down the ramp.

Enter the building ahead and turn to the left as you pass through the doorway
to locate a GENE COCOON [6/20]. Exit the house, take out some Kamikazes and a
Gunner, then walk forward to a force field.

If you haven't noticed yet, the upgraded Alien View allows you to view special
alien symbols throughout the game. Up to this point, the symbols on the
switches have all corresponded with the ones on the base of each force field.
As you can see, the two switches here do not link up to the force field ahead
(shoot 'em anyways). The switch is in fact past the force field, so use your
Energy Shield paired with the Big Gunner beyond the barrier to lower it.

Past the Big Gunner is a Health Cocoon and a Terminator - best bet is to bum
rush it and trigger Rage. Restock your health and Energy at the nearby cocoons
and approach the force field here. Fire at the switch on the right, then the
one of the left to open it up, but before you go through, walk to the right
and cross the bridge towards a GENE COCOON [8/20].

Step inside the building and descend the stairs to a second control panel.
Once you've fiddled around with it (this one is significantly harder, so
beware and be patient), proceed down to the bottom of the stairs and sprint
through the force field. Destroy the Spargs and the sixth Big Gunner at the
end of the hall.

At the force field next to the Big Gunner remains, target the switch high up
on the wall to disable it. Back at another intersection... ignore the area in
front of you and hang a left, shooting the switch and passing through the
force field.

Take down the Gunners and Spargs, then harvest the GENE COCOON [10/20] next to
the seventh Big Gunner. Side note: I wish there was a better way to provide
directions for the Gene and Secret Cocoons, but this entire level looks the
same wherever you are, so I've been using the Big Gunners as references.
Aaaanyways, there's also a SECRET COCOON [2/6] to the right of the Big Gunner.

Hit the switch next to the Big Gunner's corpse and backtrack to the
intersection, taking the other path this time. The upcoming force field is
powered by three switches: one of them being the one you just shot, and the
other two in alcoves on the left side of the hallway. Once all three are hit,
run up the ramp and through the force field.

A couple Spargs and a Gunner are found in this area. Next, face the force
field and then fire at the switch on the wall across from the force field to
lower it, giving you access to the building. One Sparg resides in this
household; nothin' special.

Outside the building, head up to the eighth Big Gunner and destroy it, then
harvest the GENE COCOON [12/20] next to it. As you proceed up the ramp, you'll
come to a SECRET COCOON [3/6] sitting smack dab in the center of the trail.
Return to the building and look to the side for a tunnel leading back into the
central chasm. Cross the tentacle bridges down to a third control panel.

Once it's down, four switches start glowing; you must shoot two of 'em to
bring down the force field - shoot the one to the left of the control panel
and the leftmost one on the adjacent wall.

Using Alien View (you shouldn't have even turned it off since the start of the
level), look for the switches bearing the triangle symbols - there are three
of them. Shoot all three to lower the force field and walk through, executing
the Spargs that confront you.

When you come to a stone wall, tear it down by shooting the Kamikazes and go
through. You are almost at the base of the column of light! As you proceed
past the wall, turn to the right to spot a SECRET COCOON [4/6]. From the
Secret Cocoon, cross the walkway to find *gasp* another force field. Disable
it and continue into a circular arena.

There are four or so Spargs and Big Gunner number nine inside here, so go
ahead and activate Rage to tear these fellas to bits. Once the carnage has
subdued, exit the arena to the left.

You'll come to a balcony overlooking some sort of reactor room. Stand on the
edge of the balcony and carefully shift the camera downward. As you fall, aim
for the tentacle bridges below you: the second one down contains a SECRET
COCOON [5/6]. Follow this bridge to another balcony, which houses a GENE
COCOON [14/20]. Now you can continue down the remaining bridges to the bottom,
where a cutscene will begin.

Here at the base of the Mound, an Overseer attacks you from the comfort of its
fancy force field. You cannot target the monster until you disable three
generators in the vicinity. There are three doors covered in force fields in
this reactor room, and they must be opened by shooting a combination of
switches.

Pay attention to the symbols at the base of the force field; I'm not sure if
you must shoot the switches in the correct order to lower the barrier. Also
make sure to hit the switches until they close - sometimes you'll hit it once
and nothing happens. Since there are only two switches at each entranceway,
you must run between the force fields in order to find all the necessary
switches. It's a pain in the ass, since there are a ton of Gunners running
around and the Parasites that the Overseer sends after you.

There are three force fields leading to three generators; it does not matter
which one you tackle first as long as you disable all three. Go through the
tunnel to reach the generator, which are all heavily protected by Spargs. Try
to defeat the current batch onscreen before making a beeline for the control
panel at the base of the machinery, since it seems like there is a neverending
stream of Spargs at these areas.

You can find the remaining collectibles at the base of the Mound; there is a
GENE COCOON [16/20], [18/20], [20/20] located at each of the generator rooms
as well as the final SECRET COCOON [6/6] in one of the generator rooms, so
make sure to pick these up before deactivating the final generator.

The final generator room (it was the last one for me) contains an endless wave
of Terminators, so watch out! If you kill the first pair, two more emerge from
the caverns. I suggest destroying one by using Energy Shield to deflect the
gatling gun bullets right back at it, then leaving the other one along while
you conduct your business.

Once all three generators have been tampered with, the boss battle begins.

| BOSS: Overseer \__________________________________________________________
==============
Not sure if this is the same Overseer from the beginning of the game, but
it isn't likely. You are going to have a much tougher time with this
bloke than the one in the first level, now that it is being powered by
the Mound. Still, a surprisingly easy fight if you play smart.

The Overseer roams around the reactor room and doesn't really do much in
terms of attacking: he deploys Parasites that run into you and deplete
your Energy rather than your health, which is very obnoxious. The boss
also has a few melee strikes, but there is no reason for you to ever get
close enough for it to use the attack.

Aside from the boss itself, you'll also be dealing with the Spargs and
Gunners that are present in the reactor room. In fact, they will give you
the most trouble during the fight. Use them for health and Energy, then
pinpoint the Overseer and repeatedly shoot it with your Energy Cannon...
you can literally hold down the Right Trigger and walk circles around it
and win. The boss does have the ability to regain health, but it should
not matter in the long run.
___________________________________________________________________________

Just like that, the Mound is no more. Only two more levels left... here we go!

==============================================================================
THE BASE [0308]
==============================================================================

Gene Cocoons: 20
Secret Cocoons: 6

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You have undergone another mutation, altering your physical appearance and
giving you the Isolation ability. With this ability, you can turn aliens
against each other for a short while. You appear in a subway leading towards
the base. Kill the Gunner up ahead, then move to the left when the path opens
up. On the second set of train tracks is a SECRET COCOON [1/8].

Use the Health and Energy Cocoons here to regain your composure, then explore
the right side of the subway tunnels. In the hallway on the right lies a
Terminator; finish him off (assuming you have fully upgraded Energy Shield, a
full Energy bar should kill it) and harvest the second SECRET COCOON [2/8]
back here. Go up the stairs on the other side of the hallway.

Take down some Spargs and Gunners in the corridor and move onto the next
room. Use Alien View to detect the tripwires on the metal grating and leap
over them, then look to the left to locate a GENE COCOON [2/24] behind a set
of boxes.

Continue down the hall; to the right is a patch of weakened floorboards on the
ground. Still, head down the hall and kill the Gunner guarding the valve.
Before heading up the stairs to the valve, enter the passage to the left of
the staircase to find a Health Cocoon and a SECRET COCOON [3/8]. There is also
an Energy Cocoon to the right of the staircase.

Turn the valve to turn off the steam, then head back to the floorboards and
shoot at them. Fall down the hole into the sewers.

There are a bunch of Spargs and Kamikazes here; fighting them is annoying due
to the cramped space. At the intersection, go left for a SECRET COCOON [4/8]
and then double back to the right. Inside the large chamber, fight the Spargs,
Gunners, and the Terminator. If you haven't yet, test out Isolation by
targeting the Terminator and having him attack the other aliens. Make sure to
search the right side of the tunnel and harvest the GENE COCOON [4/24] behind
the pillar.

Finish off the survivors and proceed down the corridor, hugging the right wall
to eventually come to a GENE COCOON [6/24]. Destroy the Terminator at the end
of the tunnel, then jump on the ledge to the left. Take out the various aliens
here, then have a look behind the two blue vats for a SECRET COCOON [5/8]. Now
ascend the stairs into the base.

Two sentry guns immediately greet you as you round the corner. Throw up your
Energy Shield to do them in, then pass by to find a friendly soldier by your
side. Climb onto the balcony and man the AA gun here. Wipe out the aliens
below, then get off and enter the room to the right. At the intersection,
continue straight ahead and harvest the GENE COCOON [8/24], then proceed to
the right instead. Flip the switch to open the metal door in front of you.

You will probably notice up ahead that the overabundance of explosive barrels
is incredibly problematic. Try your best to shoot them from a distance and
clear them out so you can safely trek through the remaining areas.

After dropping into the subway tunnel, walk to the left and harvest the GENE
COCOON [10/24] on the wall. Now head back to the right to stumble upon a
SECRET COCOON [6/8] at the dead end. Continue back to the left, following the
train tracks. When you come to a door and a switch, follow the tracks past it
to another GENE COCOON [12/24], then return to the door and open it.

As you can expect, enemies spill out of the open door, so demolish them all
before entering yourself. Up ahead, a pile of rubble is blocking the stairs.
First, harvest the GENE COCOON [14/24] at the entrance to this hallway. Next,
shoot the explosive barrels to toss everything aside. Harvest the Health and
Energy Cocoons before climbing the stairs.

At the top, kill any Spargs that appear and slash the crates to reveal a
control panel. Once you've tinkered with it, go back down the stairs and shoot
the now-active switch to open the force field next to the control panel.

Down below is a poison-filled subway tunnel. There are some Energy Cocoons to
help you get through this, as it'll definitely drain your Energy meter while
protecting yourself with your shield. First, make sure to get the GENE
COCOON [16/24] on the right end of the tunnel.

Once you escape, use the Health and Energy Cocoons found throughout the subway
tunnel. Also search the right side of the area to find a set of tracks to the
right. Follow them back in the direction you came (the tracks run parallel
with the poisonous ones) to locate a GENE COCOON [18/24].

There is an elevator to the left, but continue along the tracks instead to
come across a GENE COCOON [20/24] and a SECRET COCOON [7/8]. Now you can head
over towards the elevator. First, power up the three batteries in the corner,
then flip the switch to turn it on. Make sure to get the GENE COCOON [22/24]
next to the elevator before boarding!

Sometimes the generator doesn't work and you must activate one of the
batteries again. I don't know why this happens - may be because of all the
aliens roaming around, but keep trying until you can power up the elevator.

On the second floor, fight through the Spargs and Gunners as you climb up to
the third floor. Grab the SECRET COCOON [8/8] at the end of the catwalk, then
return to the second floor. Enter the corridor next to the staircase here.

Go up to the top of the stairwell, heal using the Health Cocoon, then follow
the passage to a hole in the floor. Drop into the large, cluttered room
containing a lot of aliens - mainly Spargs and Gunners. I recommend using Rage
and going to town.

Enter the stairwell ahead and climb down to the bottom. Deal with s'more
Gunners and Spargs ahead, then go up the staircase to the upper balcony. Open
all the crates and destroy the explosive barrels to find the final GENE
COCOON [24/24] in the corner, then proceed through the corridor.

Up ahead is a laboratory containing some Spargs. The balcony is lined with
friendly sentry guns, so don't worry about them. Go up the stairs and
activate the guns, then power up the battery and pull the switch to open the
exit hatch.

The sentry guns help out against the army of Spargs and Gunners, but it is
still a tough battle. Once the last bad guy falls, the level ends.

FINAL BATTLE [0309]
==============================================================================

Gene Cocoons: 0
Secret Cocoons: 0

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No Gene Cocoons here, no Secret Cocoons here... it's just you and the Beast!
The final battle begins as soon as the level does.

.----------------.
| BOSS: The Beast \_________________________________________________________
===============
Round two against the Beast is a lot different than the first. Well, then
again, you have a lot of new tools at your disposal. The boss battle is
pretty lackadaisical in that you do not have to follow a specific pattern
or strategy in order to win. There are a couple ways of damaging the
Beast.

Like in the first battle, you can stun the boss using grenades. There are
two grenade ammo boxes, with one being on the bottom floor and the other
on the second floor. Three grenades dazes the boss, allowing you to
follow through with Energy Cannon blasts (your Energy Cannon only hurts
the Beast when it is stunned).

You can also use your Energy Shield to deflect the fireballs the Beast
spits at you. These hits deal significantly more damage than your Energy
Cannon, but the boss doesn't always use this attack. Lastly, there is a
valve at the top of the stairs that you can turn to turn on a steam pipe
that slightly harms the Beast.

The Beast doesn't have too many attacks. Other than the aforementioned
fireball attack, the Beast will use its claws to either swipe at you in a
sweeping motion or jab at you head-on. The Beast can also call upon its
alien brethren, forcing you to battle Spargs and Gunners that show up.

All in all, it is not too tough a fight. There are three Energy Cocoons
and three Health Cocoons each, which also respawn after a short time. If
you are ever in any real danger, get off of the balcony and return to the
small room where the level started until your health regenerates or the
Health/Energy Cocoons respawn.

+----------------------+
Awakening [20 Genes]
+----------------------+-----------------------------------------------------+

--- Gene Cocoon 1 ---

After first getting your alien powers and finding the first Health Cocoon,
walk through the darkened room onto a ledge. Drop down to the hallway and
immediately turn to the left. The Gene Cocoon is in the corner behind a wall
[2 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 2 ---

In the same area as the previous cocoon, walk up to the second floor and head
alongside the right balcony past the wall that you later destroy. Continue
towards a dark corner (across from the metal staircase) and break the crates
to reveal the Gene Cocoon [4 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 3 ---

Found in the same area as the last two; on the third floor, inside the dark
room near the pile of barrels that you use to destroy the weakened wall on the
second floor [6 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 4 ---

Once you roll the barrels off the third floor and they smash through the wall,
go through the hole in the wall and turn to the left to find the Gene Cocoon
against the wall [8 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 5 ---

Found in the corridor with the three batteries (past the room containing Gene
Cocoon 4). Climb up to the third floor, cross the bridge, then hang a left and
follow the catwalk to the small room. Inside is the cocoon [10 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 6 ---

In the long room with a ton of crates and a locked metal door at the end.
Before you open the metal door using the switch, demolish all the crates to
reveal a Gene Cocoon [12 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 7 ---

Once you return to the plaza where you battled the Overseer, stay on the
second floor and make a left into the hallway. Stay on the ledge here to find
a Gene Cocoon along with a Secret Cocoon [14 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 8 ---

Located on the first floor of the plaza. There is a locked gate near the
central fountain that you can unlock with a switch. Inside is the Gene Cocoon
[16 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 9 ---

After opening the double door and exiting the plaza, explore the darkened room
with Alien View to locate another cocoon [18 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 10 ---

The last Gene Cocoon is found at the very end of the level, in the room past
Gene Cocoon 9 [20 Genes].

+---------------------------+
Run From Beast [14 Genes]
+---------------------------+------------------------------------------------+

--- Gene Cocoon 1 ---

At the start of the level, run to the right until you reach your first
blockade. The Gene Cocoon is on the ground near a fence and a car on the left
[2 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 2 ---

After finding the first, jump up the ledge and proceed forward. It is behind a
tank on the right, near a stack of crates (also near the first Secret Cocoon)
[4 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 3 ---

Found inside the first trench, against the wall to the right [6 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 4 ---

Located inside the enemy arena challenge (where you have to kill all enemies
present in order to proceed). Follow the ruined building past the yellow van
and eventually you'll come to the Gene Cocoon near the perimeter [8 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 5 ---

This Gene Cocoon is located down in the second trench, up against the trench
wall [10 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 6 ---

Past the second trench, you will come to a dead end. The cocoon is found here
at the dead end [12 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 7 ---

The cocoon is located on the roof of the apartment building, where the boss
battle takes place. In order to reach it, first jump onto the AA gun and then
leap to the high ledge where the cocoon is resting [14 Genes].

+-----------------------------+
Kurskaya Station [20 Genes]
+-----------------------------+----------------------------------------------+

--- Gene Cocoon 1 ---

Found in the first room of the level. After defeating the baddies, walk behind
the stairs to the right to spot the Gene Cocoon in the corner behind some
boxes [2 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 2 ---

After gaining the Energy Shield ability, bypass the tripwires and drop down
the holes into the subway. There is a Gene Cocoon on the right side of the
hallway, but make sure to harvest it before you kill the Gunner or you won't
be able to get it [4 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 3 ---

Pass through the first train car, kill all the soldiers, then approach the
door ahead. The Gene Cocoon is to the left of the doorway [6 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 4 ---

After grabbing Gene Cocoon 3, fight through the aliens and soldiers inside the
room ahead. As you exit into the second subway tunnel, immediately look to the
right to find the cocoon attached to the wall [8 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 5 ---

In the same subway tunnel as Gene Cocoon 4 (and Secret Cocoons 3 and 4). Walk
to the far end of the tunnel to locate the cocoon in the corner [10 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 6 ---

Go inside the room past Gene Cocoon 5 and climb up the rafters. Proceed to the
adjacent room. The cocoon is at the base of the stairs leading up to the
wounded soldier [12 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 7 ---

Located inside the third subway tunnel, which branches off of the room where
you found Gene Cocoon 6. Walk to the force field at the end and look around
for it [14 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 8 ---

In the fourth subway tunnel, near where Secret Gene 5 is. Fall down onto the
train tracks to spot it [16 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 9 ---

This cocoon is outside the doorway leading into the generator room, on the
right side [18 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 10 ---

After lowering the force fields, go down the stairs to reach the intersection
from before. Take down all the enemies before going to the end of the hall.
Pass by the lowered force field to enter a new area, where the Gene Cocoon is
[20 Genes].

+---------------------------------+
Inside the Perimeter [20 Genes]
+---------------------------------+------------------------------------------+

--- Gene Cocoon 1 ---

At the start of the level, enter the stairwell and climb the stairs to the
open door at the top. Climb the rubble to the top room and turn to the right
to find the cocoon in an alcove [2 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 2 ---

After lowering the bridge, enter the adjacent building and go down the stairs
to the first open door you find. Trigger the tripwire, then walk past it and
drop out of the hole in the wall to the alley below. The Gene Cocoon is found
here in the alley [4 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 3 ---

In the courtyard right near the location of Gene Cocoon 2. It is on the floor,
in a corner near an explosive barrel [6 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 4 ---

In the basement, at the four-way intersection. Go straight ahead and enter the
side room to find it [8 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 5 ---

In the basement. At the spot where a Persecutor leaps through a wall and
attacks you, first defeat the enemy and then jump through the hole yourself to
locate the Gene Cocoon [10 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 6 ---

In the area with the AA gun, near the poison gas field. At the start of the
area, run through the poison gas to the right to find the Gene Cocoon attached
to the side of the garage [12 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 7 ---

In the area with the AA gun. Run towards the tan/orange building across from
the AA gun and look for the cocoon next to the front porch [14 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 8 ---

Immediately after harvesting Gene Cocoon 7, turn to your left and climb into
the alcove to find this one [16 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 9 ---

After eliminating all the enemies with the AA gun, enter the building on the
left. Pass by the open door at the base of the staircase and climb the stairs
to the top to locate the Gene Cocoon [18 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 10 ---

In the area with the pit and the three bridges. Lower the second bridge and
cross it, then look on the floor for the cocoon behind some boxes [20 Genes].

+---------------------------+
Field Hospital [18 Genes]
+---------------------------+------------------------------------------------+

--- Gene Cocoon 1 ---

After passing through the crater near the beginning of the level, search the
back corner to find the cocoon behind a dumpster [2 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 2 ---

Walk through the building to reach the other side of the spike pit; the Gene
Cocoon is here on the ground. Hard to miss [4 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 3 ---

Found at the outside entrance to the field hospital. At any point during your
skirmish with the aliens, look in the back left-hand corner for the cocoon. If
you miss it and the cutscene brings you inside the hospital, you can activate
the two switches inside to open the front door and go outside again [6 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 4 ---

In the lower levels of the field hospital. When you reach the room with three
metal doors, pull the switch after slaying all of the foes. Enter the room on
the right and pass by the row of corpses to locate the Gene Cocoon in the
corner [8 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 5 ---

Back in the room with three metal doors, enter the middle room for the Gene
Cocoon [10 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 6 ---

After defeating the Terminator, ascend the stairs and enter the tunnel on the
right. After dropping into the tunnel, face the ledge you just fell down from
to find it on the wall [12 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 7 ---

In the last room of the hospital before exiting, just past Gene Cocoon 6, on
the side of a wall [14 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 8 ---

After leaving the field hospital, climb up the ramp and walk behind the
hospital exit to find the Gene Cocoon on the left [16 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 9 ---

After leaving the field hospital, climb up the ramp and walk behind the
hospital exit to find the Gene Cocoon on the right [18 Genes].

+----------------------------+
Way to the Base [12 Genes]
+----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------+

--- Gene Cocoon 1 ---

After getting out of the burning building, drop down to the bottom level from
the alley and then turn around to find the cocoon on the wall from where you
fell down [2 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 2 ---

In the same area as Gene Cocoon 1. Approach the fallen helicopter and jump on
top of it. Get on top of the helicopter blades and carefully walk across,
facing the side of the nearby building. From the edge of the blade, jump onto
the side of the building and follow the ledge to reach a pair of Gene Cocoons
[4 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 3 ---

In the same area as Gene Cocoon 1. Approach the fallen helicopter and jump on
top of it. Get on top of the helicopter blades and carefully walk across,
facing the side of the nearby building. From the edge of the blade, jump onto
the side of the building and follow the ledge to reach a pair of Gene Cocoons
[6 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 4 ---

After defeating the Terminator just past the fallen helicopter, search the
left side of the arena to find the cocoon on the ground [8 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 5 ---

Found in the highway before the boss battle. The Gene Cocoon is on the other
end of the street from where you start off, past the red bus.

--- Gene Cocoon 6 ---

This cocoon is located inside the boss arena, on the far left side.

+----------------------+
The Mound [20 Genes]
+----------------------+-----------------------------------------------------+

--- Gene Cocoon 1 ---

Directly next to you at the start of the level. Seriously, if you miss it...
[2 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 2 ---

The Gene Cocoon is located inside a tiny alcove where you find the first
control panel [4 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 3 ---

After defeating the fourth Big Cocoon (found after crossing the bridge in the
central chasm), go down the ramp and enter the building ahead. Immediately
look to the left for the cocoon [6 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 4 ---

Found after the first Terminator battle. Once the alien goon bites the dust,
proceed to the right and cross the bridge to find the Gene Cocoon at a dead
end [8 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 5 ---

Found on a wall near the location of the seventh Big Gunner [10 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 6 ---

Located next to the eighth Big Gunner, latched onto a wall [12 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 7 ---

Found during your descent to the bottom of the reactor room. From Secret
Cocoon 5, tiptoe across the tentacle bridge to the next balcony, where you'll
find the Gene Cocoon [14 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 8 ---

This cocoon is located in one of the three generator rooms at the base of the
Mound [16 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 9 ---

This cocoon is located in one of the three generator rooms at the base of the
Mound [18 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 10 ---

This cocoon is located in one of the three generator rooms at the base of the
Mound [20 Genes].

+---------------------+
The Base [24 Genes]
+---------------------+------------------------------------------------------+

--- Gene Cocoon 1 ---

Not too far from the beginning of the level, in the steam-filled room with
the tripwires. Jump over the first tripwire, then make a left at the fork;
destroy the crates in the corner to find the cocoon below them [2 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 2 ---

When you come to the large tunnel down in the sewers (just past Secret Cocoon
4), run to the right side of the tunnel to find the cocoon behind a column
[4 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 3 ---

In the same area as Gene Cocoon 2; clear the room of enemies and hug the right
wall as you follow the tunnel: eventually you'll run into the Gene Cocoon
[6 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 4 ---

After entering the base, walk past the AA gun on the balcony and go down the
hall. At the fork, continue going straight and smash all the crates to find
the cocoon underneath [8 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 5 ---

After getting Gene Cocoon 4, open the metal door and pass through, dropping
down into the subway tunnel. The Gene Cocoon should be in front of you as you
land [10 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 6 ---

In the same exact area as Gene Cocoon 5. In fact, it's only a few meters to
the left of it. Walk past the door and the switch and continue following the
train tracks to reach it [12 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 7 ---

This cocoon is found at the entrance to the hall leading up to the first
control panel; near the base of the staircase [14 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 8 ---

Found past the first control panel, inside the poisonous subway tunnel. It is
located on the far right side of the tunnel [16 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 9 ---

After exiting the poisonous tunnel, immediately turn to your right to end up
on another set of train tracks. Follow them back in the direction you came to
end up at a dead end with another Gene Cocoon [18 Genes].

--- Gene Cocoon 10 ---

MorphX puts a unique spin on character abilities by way of the upgrade system.
In order to upgrade your abilities, you must use cells found in Gene Cocoons
throughout each of the levels. These building cells come in several shapes and
sizes, and you can fit them in each ability's map. Your goal is to use the
building cells to link together genes.

Genes are either red or green, with red typically attributed to health and
green to Energy. In order to unleash their full potential, you must use cells
to link together red and green genes (active genes grow in size and begin
throbbing compared to docile ones. You can either create small cell chains to
connect a pair of genes or intricate networks to connect all genes on a map.

It's up to you, though I will pinpoint the best possible routes in order to
attain the "Bachelor" Achievement.

Here are the different types of building cells:

  ||       = straight cell [S]

  //
//        = curved cell [C]
\\
  \\

   ||      = junction cell [J]
  //\\
//  \\

||//
||/       = split right cell [R]

\\||
  \||      = split left cell [L]

\\||//
__\||/__   = universal cell [U]
--/||\--
//||\\

Based on each ability's map layout, use these building cell types to try and
construct the best possible route while conserving the most cells.

ENEMIES [0701]

--- Soldier ---

Resistance soldiers are among the most common enemies you'll find in the game.
Since they are a human, they are no match for your superhuman form in the
later stages of the game. They wield AK-74s and frequently take cover. Elite
soldiers are equipped with shotguns and are much deadlier.

--- Explorer ---

Explorers are the sentry-class aliens that are incredibly weak and don't have
much offensive firepower. Aside from some melee strikes, the Explorer is not
much of a fighter and will instead emit clouds of gas to disorient you. This
attack is used to either ambush you or can be used as a getaway plan.

--- Kamikaze ---

Kamikazes (may also be known as Detectors), are tiny spider aliens that are
known for commiting suicide attacks to take down their enemies. They are very
small and are easier spotted in Alien View. Don't waste ammo on them or use
melee attacks - press B to kick them away.

--- Persecutor ---

These dog-like aliens are common in the earlier bits of the game, but are
eventually outranked. They are fast and often attack in packs, surrounding
their prey. Since they only have melee attacks, try to keep them at bay when
in battle.

--- Gunner ---

Gunners are some of the more pesky enemies out their due to the large energy
shield surrounding their body. Projectile attacks do not harm the Gunner when
it has its shields raised, so either hide and wait for them to lower or go in
for the kill with your melee weapon. The Gunner attacks by firing projectiles
at you. Big Gunners are similar to regular Gunners, but are stationary.

--- Sparg ---

Spargs are large, bipedal mantids that have long scythe arms and can also
shoot energy blasts at you. Not only are they deadly, but they are also quite
fast and can turn invisible at times. To bypass this, fight Spargs in Alien
View to keep track of their location.

--- Terminator ---

Terminators are monstrous humanoid enemies that are very slow and carry around
a big gatling gun to match their bulky frame. This gun can tear you apart in
no time if you aren't careful, so find cover when fighting Terminators. The
best way to take one down is to deflect their bullets back using Energy
Shield, though running up to one and activating Rage also works well.

BOSSES [0702]

| BOSS: The Beast \_________________________________________________________
===============

| BOSS: Annihilator \_______________________________________________________
=================

___________________________________________________________________________

.---------------.
| BOSS: Overseer \__________________________________________________________
==============

___________________________________________________________________________

.----------------.
| BOSS: The Beast \_________________________________________________________
===============
