Version 1.0 – this is a rough draft of the FAQ; I will be adding a walkthrough
for Stage 5, 6, and 7 shortly. I will also add in some of the areas that I am
still working on later.

Version 1.1 (June 27, 2002)– I have fixed many of the grammatical errors that
were throughout the FAQ. I have also added a bit more to the Weapons section.
Few minor updates to copyright and special thanks section.

Version 2.0 (June 29, 2002) – I have added the walkthrough for Stage 5 and 6.  I
have also added the controls for swimming and a little more to the weapons
section.

Version 2.5 (June 30, 2002) – I have added the walkthrough for Stage 7.  I have
also added a glitch in the SECRETS Section (thanks to spiderXero) and have added
more to the WEAPONS Section.

Version 2.6 (July 5, 2002) – Walkthrough is finished. I have added the Questions
and Answers Section. A few errors are corrected. FAQ was cleaned up a bit. ^_^

Version 3.0 (July 8, 2002) – Added Landing Attacks and Weapon Change Attacks to
the WEAPON Section. Also added Descriptions of both in HOW TO PLAY section,
along with Changing Default Controls.

Version 3.1 (July 17, 2002) – Added combo for twin blades (HS, LS) that I have
been neglecting to mention for some reason (thanks to Colban (the magnificent)).
Updated QUESTION AND ANSWERS section.

Version 3.2 (October 16, 2002) – Long time, no update...Added REVIEW Section (the
new Section VII), added another strategy for defeating the Stage 6 Boss (thanks
to Nick Wedge), added a bit more information about the Katars at max level, added
a few more sites to the COPYRIGHT section. There may be one more update to come
later! :)

Version 3.3 (March 1, 2003) – Well, while not being the update that I had hoped
for, the FAQ has been revised and cleaned up a bit. I might try to have a list
of the Data Disks and their locations in the future…maybe ^_^;

Version 3.4 (June 10, 2003) – Added two new sites in the COPYRIGHT section that
this FAQ can be located at, and changed my email address.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
INTRODUCTION
~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is my first FAQ that I have ever written so please forgive me if it is not
perfect. If you have any questions, suggestions, complaints, comments, then
email me at [email protected]. Also, let me know if I forget anything. :)

Eve of Extinction (EOE) is a mix of many different games. It has weapons and
combos much like Soul Caliber, the adventure areas of the game, and the puzzles
are much like Soul Reaver(Josh moves just like Raziel whenever you have the rod
equipped), and the action parts are like Sword of the Berserk(also made by Eidos
and Yukes).

In EOE, an evil corporation named Wisdom is trying to achieve worldwide military
control using the EOE(the latest legacy model). EOE basically centers on Josh,
former employee of Wisdom, and Eliel, whose soul is wired in the Core of Josh’s
weapon (legacy). Josh seeks revenge on the company for what they did to Eliel,
and he is the only chance that humanity has against Wisdom.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Section II:

~~~~~~~~~~~
HOW TO PLAY
~~~~~~~~~~~

CONTROLS: (default)

Analog: moves Josh (press lightly to walk, press firmly to run)
D pad: moves Josh (walk only)
Square:   Jump
Triangle: Legacy Action
X:        Light Slash (LS)
O:        Hard Slash (HS)
R1:       change weapons
R2:       camera adjust
L1:       change weapons
L2:       lock-on, block
L3:       1st person view
R3:       Legacy drive

I will refer to each button by the action it performs since some people do not
play with the default controller option. (Like me!)

Changing Default Controls
If you want to configure your controls then go to the options menu and select
button configuration, which will be the last option. (Controls can also be
changed during the actual game by pausing the game and going to the option menu)

Saving your game:
You can save your game anytime you want. To do this press start, and select save
and the game will allow you to choose a save file. Once you restart your game
you will start out at the previous Ley Line that you passed.

Continues:
You have an unlimited amount!

Map:
Enemies appear as red glowing dots on the map. Ley Seeds also appear on the
map. Important locations appear on the map as red stars.

Changing Weapons:
Josh’s weapons can be changed with the R1 and L1 buttons. You can change to a
different weapon during a combo and Josh will change to the next weapon that you
have and finish the combo. You might also need to change weapons in order to get
to another platform while jumping.

Gaining Levels for your weapons:
Each time you use any of your weapons, your percentage on the right, above your
available weapons, will go up. When the percentage reaches 100% you will gain a
new level, and you will be able to perform higher combo attacks for that weapon.
Each weapon can gain a total of 5 levels.

Using the Legacy Drive:
To use a Legacy Drive you must first find 2 Ley Seeds, then press R3, and use the
right analog to trace the pattern on the screen. The pattern must be traced
almost perfectly. Most of the patterns are easily traced, but a few, toward the
end of the game, can be a real pain.

Grabbing onto a far away platform:
Jump over to a platform, and Josh should automatically grab the ledge. In order
to make some jumps, you must do the pole vault jump, and then quickly switch to
your bare hands so Josh can grab the ledge. This can really be tricky whenever
you first start to play. Later you will need to use another combination of
weapons Note: if the platform is really far away use the walk button to position
yourself.

Pulling yourself up from a ledge:
When Josh is hanging from a ledge you can make him pull himself up with either
the jump or Legacy Action buttons. You can also release Josh’s grip of a ledge
by pressing the L2 button.

Grabbing onto a pole or ladder while standing:
Tap the Legacy Action button to make Josh grab a ladder or a pole while standing
next to it.

Back flipping off of a ledge or pole:
When Josh is hanging from a ledge or a pole you can press either attack button
(LS or HS) to make him do a back flip.

Recovering from a fall:
Once knocked down, if you press the jump button as you land, Josh will spring
back up. If you do not time the button press right, Josh will stay on the ground
for about 2 seconds, and risk getting hit by an enemy.

Controls for swimming:
The up and down directions are reversed once you submerge yourself in water. (Up
= Down, Down = Up) You can swim around on the surface also (controls are
normal). To pull yourself up, press the grab button (Legacy Action button) near
a platform. Once grabbed on, you can pull yourself up with the jump button.
Beware Josh’s Oxygen level! It depletes VERY quickly! Even I could even hold my
breath longer than him! :)

Action Movies:
Do not put your controller down to watch all of the cutscenes! This is not Final
Fantasy X! Some of the cutscenes allow the player to interact. These are known
as Action Movies. These cutscenes allow the player to input certain button
combinations. If the player does not enter the buttons correctly then Josh will
suffer damage. You cannot die from an Action Movie!

Changing the order of weapons:
When the game is paused, go to the Status screen. You can change the order of
your weapons, which can make for some dirty and horrifying combinations. The
current levels and information regarding each weapon can be viewed here as well.

Landing Attacks:
Landing Attacks are weapon attacks that can only be performed after a jump(the
second Josh lands) or Legacy Action. (see the WEAPONS Section for more info.)

Weapon Change Attacks:
Attacks that can be done during a combo when Josh switches to a different weapon.
(Weapon Change Attacks can be performed during any combo)

ITEMS:

Ley Seed:
You need two of these to power up each weapon so you can use the Legacy Drive of
that weapon. The Ley Seeds come in blue and red colors. They are found inside
of Ley Lines.

Ley Line:
A stream of Chi that shimmers in many areas of each stage that can only be seen
by wielders of advanced Legacies. The Ley Line will replenish all of your health
and your Legacy meter. The Ley Line also serves as a checkpoint if Josh dies.

Data Modules:
Disks that are received from Wisdom guards. The Data Modules have information
about many different people and places from the game. Some are just notes and
documents. (The Data Modules can be viewed by pausing the game and choosing Data
on the menu.)

First aid box:
Some of the enemies may drop a first aid box once beaten. The box will restore
some of your health.

Vitality Crystals:
A clear glass case with a crystal inside which will replenish some of Josh’s
Legacy Drive energy.

Important items:
Some enemies may drop important items that will help you advance through the
game, such as a card key. Enemies that have an important item will have a red
arrow above them which points down at them.

WEAPONS
~~~~~~~
Below is the entire list of all the available weapons in EOE, and information
associated with each.  I have listed the combos associated with each weapon.  You
can still do all the prior level combos after you go up a level.  For instance,
you can still do Level 2 combos after you get up to Level 3.  Each weapon will
take off more as you raise the level of it.
NOTE:
LS = Light Slash
HS = Hard Slash
>>>>>>>>>>
Bare Hands
>>>>>>>>>>
(default weapon)
Description:  Josh’s bare hands can easily beat down one enemy, but I cannot
recommend using his bare hands against a group of 2 or more enemies.  The damage
inflicted is minimal, and the combos are not too powerful.  The hard attack also
leaves Josh vulnerable if it is blocked or even if it hits.
Legacy Drive:  N/A
Legacy Action:  use (lets Josh press switches)
Attacks
LS:  punch
HS:  roundhouse kick
Jumping Attacks
Sword
<<<<<
(default weapon)
Description:  The sword is the best weapon for hit and run techniques.  The
slices are very fast and Josh recovers almost instantly from each hit that he
dishes out.  The sword starts out relatively weak, but after you start to power
it up you can pull off some mad combos.
Element:  Fire
Legacy Drive:  Burst of flames (Josh releases a flame burst from the sword)
Legacy Action:  Somersault (Josh does a somersault in the air.  This is good to
use if you are expecting an attack.  You can evade the attack and counter with a
slash.)
Attacks
LS:  Horizontal slice
HS:  Vertical slice
Jumping Attacks
LS:  jumping vertical slice
HS:  same as LS jumping attack
>>>
Rod
<<<
(default weapon)
Description:  The Rod is an excellent weapon to have when you are fighting more
than one foe.  Josh has many combos with the Rod that can knock down enemies if
they try to pressure or surround you.
Element:  Lightening
Legacy Drive:  Lightening Strike (Josh strikes the ground with the rod and
lightening rains down in front of him.)
Legacy Action:  Pole Vault Jump (Josh spins the Rod around and plunges it into
the ground while vaulting himself up into the air.  Note:  The spinning of the
Rod in this action will actually hit enemies if they try to interfere.)
Attacks
LS:  Vertical strike
HS:  Horizontal Strike
Jumping Attacks
>>>>>>
Katars
<<<<<<
(received after completing Stage 1)
Description:  The Katars hit fast, kind of like the sword.  With the Katars Josh
can knock the enemy up into the air and perform a juggle while the enemy is
falling.
Element:  Water
Legacy Drive:  Burst of water (Josh lets loose a stream of water from the Katars.)
Legacy Action:  Back Flip (Josh does a flying backward somersault and uses the
Katars to land on his feet.)  The back flip is useful for getting Josh out of
troubled spots quickly or you can do it to dazzle your friends.
Attacks
LS:  Standing Vertical Slash
HS:  Josh slides toward the enemy with the two Katars in front of him and strikes.
Jumping Attacks
Katars)
>>>>>>>>>>>
Snake Sword
<<<<<<<<<<<
(received after completing Stage 2)
Description:  The Snake Sword is your first weapon that can inflict big damage.
The damage can really add up once you get this baby up in levels.  The Snake
Sword does not have too much of a reach like you think it would have.  If only
Josh could use the Snake Sword like Ivy from Soul Caliber…tsk! tsk!
Element:  Time
Legacy Drive:  Time Freeze (Josh uses the Snake Sword to stop time for about 2
seconds.)
Legacy Action:  Sword Grapple (The Snake Sword extends and grapples on to any
nearby wall.  Josh can use this to reach far away platforms.)
Attacks
Crossbow
<<<<<<<<
(received in Stage 3)
Description:  A pink crossbow!  Heh, what will they think of next!  The crossbow
can be used to take out enemies from quite a distance.  If enemies are really far
away, you can usually stand back, and keep shooting them. Sometimes, they will
not even move.
Element:  Life
Legacy Drive:  Life Recover (Some of Josh’s health is healed instantly after the
use of this Legacy Drive.  Afterward, a shield surrounds Josh and gradually heals
for about 10 seconds.  This is probably the best Legacy Drive in the game!)
Legacy Action:  Frontal Roll (Josh rolls forward.  This is good for escaping
attacks.)
Attacks
(number of shots depends on current level of the crossbow.)
LS:  fires out a shot from the crossbow
HS:  delayed crossbow shot
Jumping Attacks
(number of shots depends on current level of the crossbow.)
Giant Axe
<<<<<<<<<
(received in Stage 5)
Description:  One of my favorite weapons!  Josh may swing the Giant Axe really
slow, but look at the enemies life as you hit them with a combo, were talking at
least half!  The Giant Axe is good for about 2 enemies, but I cannot recommend it
for a big crowd.
Element:  Gravity
Legacy Drive:  Gravity Smash
Legacy Action:  Evade  (Josh digs the Giant Axe into the grounds and pulls
himself back.  Not very useful.)
Attacks
LS:  Vertical strike
HS:  Spinning strike
Broad Sword
<<<<<<<<<<<
(received in Stage 5)
Description:  If you have played Sword of the Berserk and have seen the way that
Gatsu uses the Dragonslayer, then you will love this weapon!  This weapon is
really good for getting a crowd off of you.  It seems to be a little bit faster
than the axe, but the damage is not as high.
Element:  Earth
Legacy Drive:  Duplicate (The Broad Sword lets Josh make a duplicate of himself
which the enemies will attack)
Legacy Action: Evade (Much like the Giant Axe evasion, and just as useless.)
Attacks
LS:  Vertical Slash
HS:  Spinning Slashes
Boomerang
<<<<<<<<<
(received after completing Stage 5)
Description:  The Boomerang is one of the coolest looking weapons in EOE.  Too
bad it’s not that great.  The only good thing about it is throwing it out
straight or using the jump attack with it.
Element:  Wind
Legacy Drive:  Wind Burst (The Boomerang sends wind out in all directions.)
Legacy Action:  somersault (same as the Sword’s Legacy Action)
Attacks:
LS:  Josh throws the Boomerang straight out in front of him.
HS:  Josh throws the Boomerang to the side and it makes a half circle in front of
him and then comes back.
Jumping attacks:
LS:  Josh throws the Boomerang quickly while in the air (very useful air attack)
HS:  same as LS air attack
Landing Attack:  Underhand Boomerang Toss (HS or LS after Josh lands from a jump
or after Legacy Action).
Weapon Change Attack:  Josh jumps and throws the Boomerang.
<<<<<<
(received after completing Stage 6)
(automatically comes with 2 Ley Seeds)
Description:  The Tonfas hit very quickly but they have some slow recovery time,
much like using your bare hands.  The Tonfas are much better once you start to
gain levels.
Element:  Light
Legacy Drive:  Invincibility (Josh gets a metallic shield around him and becomes
invincible for a few seconds.)
Legacy Action:  Back Flip (Almost identical to the Katar’s back flip.  Good for
avoiding attacks.)
Attacks:
LS:  Downward Strike
HS:  Tonfa uppercut
<<<<<<<<<<<
(received after beating the game)
(automatically comes with 2 Ley Seeds)
Description:  Good lord, the damage!  After these blades are leveled up to level
3, one combo can equal instant death for any enemy.  You can even make mincemeat
out of the bosses with these.
Element: Cheese? :)
Legacy Drive: Explosion (the twin blades make a big explosion in front of Josh)
Legacy Action:  High Jump (Josh jumps about the same height as he does when you
do the Pole Vault jump with the Rod.)
Attacks
LS:  Vertical Slash
HS:  Josh slides toward the enemy with both blades in front of him and strikes.
~~~~~~~~~~~
WALKTHROUGH
~~~~~~~~~~~
Before you start to read this walkthrough, I recommend trying to go through the
game yourself.  Just listen to Eliel and you can, most of the time, figure out a
certain situation.  If you are completely stumped on a part, then look it up in
this walkthrough.  I cannot guarantee that you will NOT run across a spoiler, but
I have tried to not spoil anything in this walkthrough storywise.  I do not talk
about the cutscenes, so you do not have to worry about that part being spoiled
for you.  I do make a special note when there is an Action Movie (all of the
Action movies and proper button inputs are listed in the SECRETS Section).  The
walkthrough is based on the normal difficulty.  Good luck!
_______________________________________________________________
*******
Stage 1
*******
Business District
When you first start out, after the beginning cutscenes, Josh will have to face 5
Wisdom enemies.  Use this chance to get the proper feel of the game.  Try to
change between your weapons during combos.  Believe me, you will be sick of
changing weapons by the time you reach the later stages, so you might as well get
used to it now!
After you beat them, go past the two wrecked trucks until a cutscene starts.
After the cutscenes, follow the agent.  A cutscene will activate (Action Movie
1).  Take out the enemy.  Thankfully, Josh’s bare hands are already at Level 2,
so he can bust out a few combos.  After you beat the enemy proceed further into
the corridor.  Another cutscene will take place (Action Movie 2).  After the
cutscene, go out the exit. Follow the agent that has Eliel.  Eliel will tell you
about the R2 camera angle feature which you WILL need throughout the game.  You
will eventually stumble across a gate, which can only be unlocked by a cardkey.
Keep that in mind.  Follow the agent further until you come across a pole in the
middle of the room.  Jump and grab on to the pole, and position Josh so that his
backside is facing the area where the agent was. Back flip across to the area.
Josh will need to jump and grab onto the ledge in front of him.  Eliel should
explain this to you well enough.  Now, go up the ladder.  Follow the corridor
until you find a gate.  Press the switch to open the gate, and a cutscene will
start (Action Movie 3).  Fight the enemy, and proceed to the next room.  Defeat
the enemy in the next room, and pick up the cardkey.  Go back to the area with
the gate and the cardkey reader that was mentioned earlier.  On the way back, you
will come across your first area where you will have to use the Rod, and do a
Pole Vault jump, and then quickly switch to Josh’s bare hands and grab the
ledge.  Try to get the hang of this now, because it will take some getting used
to.  Once you get back to the gate, Josh will automatically use the cardkey.
Proceed forward, and grab the Ley Seed in the next room.  You will need to use
the Pole Vault jump to collect the Ley Seed.  3 enemies will appear after Josh
has gotten the Ley Seed.  After you beat them, go into the room where they came
from.  In here, you will have to use the Pole Vault jump and then quickly switch
to Josh’s bare hands to grab the pipe on the ceiling.  Pull yourself across to
the other side.  Grab the next Ley Seed!  A cutscene will start.  Now, do the
Legacy Drive.  Another cutscene will start.
After the cutscene, go over to the Wisdom building.  3 enemies will attack Josh.
Get rid of them.  One of the Wisdom guards will seal off the building by shutting
off the power as Josh try’s to enter.  You need to find a way to open that door!
Go over to the right side of the building and Eliel will give you a hint on how
to power up the building.  You will need to power up that generator with the
Rod’s Legacy Drive.  The only problem is that you need to find the 2 Ley Seeds
for it.  Along the way you will run into many enemies.  A Ley Line is a little
ways down the street.  Next to the Ley Line is some stairs that lead down.  Go
down the stairs, and proceed to the subway.  You will run across a gate that
needs a cardkey to open.  See all of those enemies?  Well, the one with the red
arrow above him (further in the back) has the key.  Defeat all the enemies and
grab the cardkey, and use it on the cardkey reader to open up the gate.  Proceed
through the gate, and you will run into more enemies (what did you expect!).
Defeat them, and pull the switch next to the computer.  The switch opens up the
exit door.  Continue forward, and you will run into another enemy.  Go down the
stairs and you will have to fight 5 more enemies.  You can jump on the rail
tracks to activate cutscenes (Action Movies 4 & 5).  Now, proceed up the stairs
on the opposite side.  There should be a gate in front of you.  Guess what!?
More enemies.  Proceed through the exit that you unlocked earlier (yeah, it was
all the way over here).  There are 2 switches on the other side of the gate that
you can press.  Press them to open the gates (this will make thing easier
later).  After that, go down the corridor, and go up the stairs.
Once you exit the subway, there will be a Ley Seed to your left behind a gate.
Pole Vault jump over the gate.  You will need to Pole Vault jump onto the
basketball, net and then jump and grab the pipe.  Pull yourself over to it, and
collect the Ley Seed.  Jump back over the gate, and proceed further down the
street.  A cutscene will activate, and show you where the next Ley Seed is.  Yep,
all the way up there (There is a secret nearby for Special Game. If you want it,
refer to the SECRETS section of this guide).  Proceed all the way to end of the
street.  There will be a few enemies along the way.  Once you reach the end of
the street, you will need to Pole Vault jump and grab onto the top of the Diner
sign.  Once you get on top of the sign, go up the stairs.  When Josh runs out of
stairs to climb, you will need to Pole Vault Jump and grab the side of the top of
the building.  Proceed to the right and take out the enemy.  You will need to
Pole Vault Jump to the next building.  Now you will see a crane.  Break the strut
that is holding up the crane by hitting it with a weapon.  Now Josh can get to
the other side!  You might want to WALK across the crane until Josh gets to the
end.  I would hate for you to fall. :)  Now change to the Rod, and do a (betcha
can’t guess) Pole Vault Jump, and quickly switch to Josh’s bare hands and grab
the side of the next building.  Take out the enemy and grab the Ley Seed.  You
now have the Rod’s Legacy Drive.  Go down the stairs on the side of this building
to get down safely.  Go back through the subway, and get back to the main street
next to the power generator.  Now, use the Rod’s Legacy Drive on the power
generator to give the building power.  The door to the building will open.  Go
into the building, and a cutscene will activate (Action Movie 6).  You will now
fight the first boss.
===============================================================
Boss:
Hans
He will start out as a shadow.  You need to get rid of the chandelier so there
will be no light in the room.  There are 2 ways to do this:
1.  Use the Pole Vault jump and grab onto the ledge above.  Go over to one of the
sides.  Use the Pole Vault jump again, and hit the chandelier.
2.  Use the Rod’s Legacy Drive under the Chandelier.
Your choice!
Now that you have him out of his hiding spot, you can actually hit him.  You can
use either weapon against him, but I prefer to use the Rod.  You will need to
block a lot because some of his attacks are hard to avoid.  If he ever starts to
spin-in-place, then be sure to keep moving to avoid the attack that follows.  If
you do avoid the spin move, then Hans might spin into a wall and fall down.  Be
sure to let him know of his mistake, with Josh’s Rod, if that happens.  You can
fight him around the broken chandelier, because the chandelier will damage
whoever touches it.  He shouldn’t be too much of a problem, but he is actually
kind of hard for a first boss.  Josh will receive the Katars after beating Hans.
Stage 2
Chinatown
After the cutscenes, 4 enemies will greet Josh into Chinatown.  Be sure to say
thanks with Josh’s new Katars.  Go straight ahead and you will activate a
cutscene.  It seems that somebody or something is inside that mansion to your
left.  There is a key in the big fire that is in front of the mansion.  You need
to find some Ley Seeds to get it though.  Take out the enemies that try to
surround Josh.  There is a Ley Line to your left if Josh needs recharging.  You
see that building up ahead?  If you go up to it then some enemies will come out.
You have 2 ways of getting inside of the building:  1) You could go through the
front door, or 2) Turn to the left and get up to that platform in the cutscene
that activates once you go that way.  I will explain the latter because it is
quicker.
(You can skip the next paragraph if you do not want the extra cutscenes)
Before you go up to the platform, turn left and go down that street and you will
activate a cutscene (Action Movie 7).  Now fight the enemies.  As you go further
up the street, you will run into even more enemies and you will also see a Ley
Seed way up high.  In order to get Action Movie 8, you will need to go back to
the building at the beginning, and use the Pole Vault jump to go up to the roof
(you will have to pull yourself up).  From there, go along the rooftops until
Josh reaches a gray rooftop that is right across from the mansion.  Now use the
Pole Vault jump and grab the side of the roof of the mansion.  Go up to the
walkway section, and walk around until a cutscene starts (Action Movie 8)
Now lets get back on track, Josh needs to get up to that platform with the
enemies on it.  To do this, climb the ladder on the building next to the
platform.  You will need to Pole Vault jump, and then grab the ladder.  Once Josh
pulls himself up, jump over to the platform with the enemies.  Enter the room off
to the side.  Go down the walkway and take out all the enemies along the way.
There will be some more enemies once Josh reaches the bottom.  Enter the area
with the pots, and a cutscene will activate.  Continue further and you will be
attacked by many Wisdom guards.  You will eventually come to a corridor, and
another cutscene will activate.  The blades are now moving.  You have a choice of
either the left or the right.  The right may look harder but it will get you to
your destination faster.  Both paths wind up in the same place.  Go to the right
and go through all of those blades.  Timing is everything!  Keep going down the
corridor and you will reach an area where you can turn right.  Wisdom guards will
be all over you at this point.  Fight them off, and go down the right path.
While going down the right path you will face many more enemies.  Keep going down
this path until you reach a Ley Seed.  Grab the Ley Seed and a cutscene will take
place (Action Movie 10).  Now Josh will have to fight a boss.
===============================================================
Boss:
Raven
This will be Josh’s first encounter with Raven.  He seems really tough at first,
but the battle ends shortly.  Either the sword or the Rod works nicely against
him.  He sometimes attacks while he is getting up from a knockdown, so be
careful.  The best way to beat him is to get a few hits in, and then back up, and
repeat.  You cannot stay on top of him because he will surely push Josh back.
The battle will end before you take him down all the way (it will end once Josh
has taken about half of Raven’s life).
===============================================================
Now, take care of the enemies and go back out the corridor.  Go to the right once
you make it out of the corridor.  Go past the 2 blades and fight some more
enemies.  Keep going down the corridor until you come across a room to your
left.  Go inside.  Upon entering the room a cutscene will take place (Action
Movie 9).  You will notice a Giant Buddha in the room.  Take the enemies out with
whichever weapon you choose, and then start to climb the Buddha on the right
side.  Jump off the Buddha onto the area to the side.  Fight off the enemies.  Go
to the other side of the Buddha (right side), and jump over to the walkway that
goes up the Buddha, and begin to climb again.  You will need to Pole Vault jump
and grab onto the higher walkway once you get so far.  Pull yourself up, and
continue up the Buddha.  Josh will eventually reach a part where he will have to
Pole Vault jump over to the side.  It’s best to jump over to the right so Josh
will not miss the area.  Follow this area until you get to the left side of the
Buddha.  Jump onto the walkway that goes up the Buddha and proceed until the
camera switches to an overhead view of Josh.  Switch to the Rod and Pole vault
jump and grab onto the side of the ledge.  Or you can first grab onto the pole
and jump up to the ledge.  Go through the corridor in front of Josh, and take out
all the enemies along the way.
You will eventually wind up in a room with steel dragons moving along the
railings on the walls.  Take out the enemies in the room.  Now look above Josh
with the L3 button.  Position Josh below an opening from the top and use the Pole
Vault jump to jump up and grab the first railing.  Try to time it so the dragon
leaves the first railing as you are jumping on it.  Now you will need to jump to
the next railing and grab on.  Continue until you reach the top.  If a dragon
hits Josh, he will suffer major damage.  So watch yourself!  Once you get to the
top, you will have some more enemies to greet you.  There is a doorway up there
that you can go through.  Go through the doorway, and you will reach the last Ley
Seed for the Katars.  Go grab it!  There is a piece of a ladder on the side of
the building.  It is hard to see because of the camera angle.  Go down the ladder
and drop off.  Josh will not suffer any damage.  There is a special game icon
nearby (Go to the SECRETS section if you want to know where)
Now go back to the mansion and use the Katar’s Legacy Drive on the big fire.
Grab the key and use it on the door. A cutscene will start, and Josh will have to
fight the main boss for this stage.
===============================================================
Boss:
Viper
Viper is really not too bad.  I would recommend using the Sword or the Rod on
him.  He will jump on top of one of the 6 platforms in the room eventually.  To
get him down, Josh must hit the gong below that platform with a weapon.  If you
hit the gong in time, Viper will fall and hit the ground.  Use this time to beat
the crap out of him!  Beware the Snake Sword whenever Viper is up on the
platforms.  It takes quite a bit of life.  There is really not too much of a
strategy for beating him while he is on the ground.  I usually combo him with a
weapon (Rod), and try to stay on top of him.  Josh will receive the Snake Sword
after you beat Viper.
===============================================================
*******
Stage 3
*******
The Wisdom Base
Beware the helicopter at the beginning!  It will try to shoot Josh as he walks
out into the open.  Go up a little ways past the gate on the right, and you will
run into 3 Wisdom guards.  Use this chance to start to power up your new Snake
Sword.  Go up and to the right a little bit, and you will notice an opening in
the gate. You need to go in there in a bit, but first you need to get the first
Ley Seed for the Snake Sword.  Go up a little more and to the right and you will
see some boxes next to the gate.  Jump over the boxes.  You must watch out for
the helicopter the whole time while you are outside!  Once you jump over the
boxes proceed forward until you see a ladder on the left.  Switch to your bare
hands and climb the ladder.  Now, you see the platform across from you?  Switch
to the rod and use the Pole Vault to jump over the platform and switch to bare
hands during the jump so you can grab onto the edge of the platform.  Pull
yourself up, and go up the ladder.  A cutscene will be activated, and you will
have to fight 3 Wisdom guards while avoiding the helicopter.  If you are low on
health, you should run over and get the Ley Seed right now!  Try to not get near
the edge because once you get knocked off you will take severe damage.  After you
have the Ley Seed climb back down the ladder that you used to get up there.  Go
back the way you came, past the boxes.  Now go over to the area that has an
opening in the gate.  Defeat the 2 enemies that guard the door and proceed
through.
Once you go through the door, Eliel will warn you about the gun turret as you
enter into the next room.  The gun turret will begin firing right away!  Run down
the stairs to your right and run over to the switch and press it.  This will
cause the lift to rise.  Grab onto the lift, and ride it up.  There should be a
Ley Line not to far away from you. If you suffered damage from the gun turret
then go heal yourself.  Stand on the edge of the lift, and use the rod to hop
across to the gun turret.  Hit the turret with whichever weapon of your choosing,
(the rod works the best) and hop over to the next platform, and press the
switch.  This causes the door below you to open.
Drop down and go through the door that you just opened.  A cutscene will activate
(Action Movie 11).  After that, you will be forced to fight 3 enemies.  2 more
enemies are just ahead.  On the left will be a security card reader.  You need to
find that security card.  Go to the door up ahead of you with the switch next to
it.  Press the switch, and the door will open.  Go through the door and you will
face 2 enemies.  One of the enemies(the one with the red arrow over his head) has
the key card for that room you just passed.  Defeat both of them and get the
keycard.  Go back to the security card reader, and use the security card.  This
room has the second Ley Seed for the Snake Sword.  You will have to face an enemy
with a flamethrower as you enter the room.  There are a total of 5 enemies in
this room.  There is switch next to a lift in the middle of the room.  Go over to
the switch, and press it. Ride the lift up.  There will be a pipe up there,
against the wall, that you can grab onto and pull yourself across over to the Ley
Seed.
After you have gotten the Ley Seed, go back to the room where you got the
security card.  Now, go all the way up the stairs in this room.  There will be an
Arachnoid guard up here, and there will also be 2 more guards once you go through
the door.  Once you are through the door, go up the ladder to your left.  Keep
proceeding forward until you run into a big fan that is spinning with extreme
speed.  There is also a Ley Line in the corner.  You must use your new Snake
Sword Legacy Drive to stop time so you can go through the fan.  You must stand
directly in front of the fan because the time stop only last for about 2
seconds.  Go up the ladder in the area beyond the fan.  Go down the ladder at the
end of that part.  Now you will wind up in a big hallway.  There is a switch next
to a big door to your right.  You can press it and open the door, but that is
room that you just came from.  So proceed to your left.  Keep going down the
corridor until you run into a door that you can open.  Once you go through the
door a cutscene will activate.  Follow the two women up the stairs while either
stopping to fight the guards or avoiding them.  They will go through a door at
the top of the stairs.  Keep following them.  There will be a few guards that
will bother you along the way.  You will eventually come to an area where you
must avoid some laser beams.  It’s kinda funny how the women just move right
through them.  Anyway, maneuver your way through the laser beams, and be sure to
look out for the one that moves around on the floor!
Once you are through the lasers, you will come to corridor where you can either
go right or left.  Going left will get you nowhere right now, so go to the
right.  There are 2 guards here.  Eventually you will have to turn left and go
through a door.  A cutscene will activate.  Do not worry about the 2 Ley Seeds
just yet.  There are two guards in this room to take out, one big guard and one
with a sniper.  There is also a Ley Line in this room.  Go through the door that
is next to the Ley Line.  You will come up to a door with 3 switches on the it.
Destroy all 3 switches, and the door will open.  After the cutscene, (Action
Movie 13) you will have to fight a boss.
===============================================================
Boss:
Vixen
She has a pink crossbow, which she is quite good with.  She has 3 far-off attacks
that she will use.  She sometimes fires a single shot from the crossbow.  She
also has an attack where she focuses on you for a couple of seconds, and lets
loose one powerful shot.   She also has an attack where she will let loose a
whole stream of shots in a half circle in front of her.  You can block her
shots.  The best weapon to use for her is the Rod.  It is best to stay close to
her while fighting her.  Do not let her get you in the middle of the room, when
she is on either of the sides, or she will set up a laser cage around you and use
you for target practice.  You will most likely get stuck in the laser cage at
least once because you have to cross the center to get close to her.  Do not let
her have a moment’s peace.  Stay right on top of her and you should defeat her
easily.
===============================================================
After you beat her, a cutscene will activate.  You now have the crossbow!  Go
back to the room with the 2 Ley Seeds that you previously skipped.  Go over to
the left side, and there will be a platform in the center that you can jump over
to.  Use the Pole Vault jump. Once you reach the platform, jump over to your
right to the next platform.  Once on that platform, turn around and the first Ley
Seed should be right across from you.  Jump over and get it.  Now, jump to the
platform in front of you.  A cutscene should activate (Action Movie 12).  Now
jump over to the lift.  Hit the switch, and ride the lift up.  The second Ley
Seed will be on the left side after you get to the top.  Grab the Ley Seed, and
ride the lift back down.  Go through the door in front of the lift, and go
forward.  Turn to the right and there will be a guard waiting for you.  Defeat
him, and continue going forward.  A cutscene will activate (Action Movie 14).
Fight off the 3 enemies, and go through the door with the orange light above it.
You will enter a room that is full of steam.  Use the crossbow’s Legacy Drive
before going into the room.  This will protect you from the steam.  Go through
the steam and make your way to the next door on the left side of the room.  Go
through that door and through the corridor into the next room, which should be
full of boxes.  There is an enemy in the distance.  Take him out.  Once you reach
the area where he was standing, a cutscene will activate.  Get over to the train,
and another cutscene will activate.
Now you are on top of the train.  Take out the 3 enemies, and watch out for the
lights that pass by on the ceiling of the tunnel.  They can hit you and take off
damage.  Keep the enemies in front of you so the lights will hit them.  After you
take them out, go toward the front of the train.  Each time you jump to the next
cart, watch out for the railing on the ceiling. It will hit you at the peak of
your jump if you are not careful.  After you have gone so far, a cutscene will
activate and you will fight a boss.
===============================================================
Boss:
Zera
As soon as you start out, you can get a few hits on her before she escapes.  She
runs toward the end of the train.  What in the world is she doing?  Anyway,
follow her to the end of the train.  You can stop and shoot her with your
crossbow while she is running.  Be sure to avoid the railings each time you jump
from cart to cart.  She will stop to fight you ever now and then.  Just keep
following her until you reach the end.  A cutscene will activate once you reach
the end of the train.
===============================================================
*******
Stage 4
*******
Wisdom Airship
Josh has received an invitation to the Wisdom Airship from Agla.  How thoughtful!
When you start out, there will be 3 enemies that you will have to face.  After
you take care of them, proceed through the open doorway in front of you.  You
will face 3 more enemies.  Take the guy with the gun out first.  They are the
most annoying enemies.  Now go through the door in front of you.  A cutscene will
activate.
After the cutscene, go through the doorway.  There is a room with enemies in it
to the side.  You can go in and take care of them if you want to, or proceed
through the other doorway just ahead of you, and a cutscene will activate (Action
Movie 15).  Proceed through the door again and to your left will be a kitchen.
If you choose to go down there, you will activate a cutscene (Action Movie 16).
Go to the right, and another cutscene will begin (Action Movie 17).  There is a
bar in the middle of this room.  You will have to fight two enemies in here.
Proceed through the new doorway on the opposite side and go through the
elevator.  You’re now back on the floor that you started on.  Take out the two
enemies and go though the door in front of you.  A cutscene will activate (Action
Movie 18).  After the cutscene you will face a boss.
===============================================================
Boss:
Raven
Yes, you get to fight Raven again.  Raven is quite a difficult boss to fight.  He
is much more difficult than he was the first time.  You must remain patient while
fighting him.  He is very quick.  The strategy that I use is to run around him,
and let him attack first, then run up to him and attack while his defense is
down.  The best weapon to use is either the Rod or the Snake Sword.  Do not try
to just run up and attack him normally, or he will block your attack and most
likely hit you.  Use the Crossbow’s Legacy Drive if you need some extra health.
The battle will end when you have taken about 90% of his health.
===============================================================
After the battle, go through the door on the other side of the room.  Get into
the elevator, and run into the cargo hold.
*******
STAGE 5
*******
The Guiana Highlands
At the start of the stage proceed forward, and a cutscene will activate.  You
will now have to fight 3 enemies.  Watch out for the big enemy!  Keep following
the trail that you are on, and you will activate a cutscene (Action Movie 19).
You will then have to fight 3 more enemies.  At the end of the trail, you are
forced to jump up to a mountain area.  You will need to use the Pole Vault jump.
Once you get up there, go down the path to the side of you.  Keep following the
path until a cutscene activates.  Now you will have to fight a boss.
===============================================================
Boss:
Z
Z gave me some problems the first time I fought him.  You have to CONSTANTLY stay
on the move.  One way to defeat Z is to use your crossbow on him from a
distance.  Using the crossbow can be very time consuming though.  The Rod,
Katars, and Snake Sword work nicely too.  If you do use any of those weapons you
need to use a combo that will knock him down!  Don’t leave him standing while you
are right next to him, or you risk getting hit.  Also, if your life starts to get
really low, use the Crossbow’s Legacy Drive.  Get away from him if he starts to
stomp the ground!  Rocks will start to fall.  Also look out for his spinning
attack.  He will spin around with his axe out about four times.  Run away if he
starts the spin attack.
===============================================================
After you beat Z, you will gain the Giant Axe!  Now, take the path in front of
you.  You will run into 3 enemies along the way, and a cutscene will activate.
The cutscene will show you where the 2 Ley Seeds are for the Giant Axe.  Take out
the enemies and snag the Ley Seeds.  You will have to jump over to the 2 Ley
Seeds on each side.  A normal jump should do.  Now, jump over to the platform
that is next to the waterfall.  Continue proceeding forward until you run across
a big boulder.  Hmmmmmm, it seems like you cannot go any further.  You just got a
new weapon and a new Legacy Drive and now… Hey, I bet you could use that Giant
Axe’s Legacy Drive on that big boulder!  Try it!  It worked!  Now, go through the
new path.  Keep following the winding path until you activate a cutscene.  Oh
good lord!  All of your weapon crystals have now been taken away from you.  You
will need to defeat the enemies in green with the orange lightsabers to get them
back.  You are now stuck with your bare hands only.
A big enemy should start to charge toward you.  I would not recommend fighting
him with your bare hands unless you are just awesome!  Run past him, and jump up
on the platform in front of you with one of the green enemies.  Defeat him, and
you will get the Giant Axe back.  Now you can take out that annoying big enemy.
Proceed down, next to the river, and take out the enemies down there.  There is
nothing near the waterfall, or on top of the side of the mountain next to the
river, so go the way that the river is flowing.  Go up to the raised area on the
right side of the river and a cutscene will activate (Action Movie 21).  You will
eventually have to jump over the river.  Once on the other side, keep following
the path until you come across a small body of water.  Jump in, and swim over to
the other side (If my directions on swimming were not good enough, then listen to
Eliel).  Once you reach the other side, you will run into 2 enemies.  The green
enemy has one of your weapons.  There is a Ley Line on the raised platform to the
left if you need recharging.  Go down the path to your right until you run across
3 enemies in a valley below you.  Jump down and fight them.  I recommend that you
take out the 2 normal enemies first, and then take care of the green one that has
one of your weapons.  If you take out the green enemy first, then you will have
to fight the boss that is about to come out, along with the other 2 enemies.
Anyway, once you take out the green enemy a cutscene will activate (Action Movie
20), and you will have to fight a boss.
===============================================================
Boss:
Magnus
Magnus looks scary, but he is not too much of a problem.  You fight him very
similar to the way that you fought Z.  You have to keep your distance from him,
and combo him sparingly.  He doesn’t chase you down near as bad as Z did.  I
recommend using the Giant Axe to defeat him.  The other weapons do not seem to
take off enough, and you cannot knock him down with the Katars.  Any combo with
the Giant Axe seems to work fine.  The only major thing to look out for is his
reach with that Broad Sword.
==============================================================
After you take out Magnus, you will receive the Broad Sword.  Now, go back the
way you came.  Go back to where that Ley Line was.  Get on the platform above the
Ley Line.  Take out the enemy, and jump across to the area in front of you.  Take
out the 2 enemies over here (one of them has your Crossbow).  After you get the
Crossbow, jump back across, and go back down the platforms.  Now, go over to the
left side, and defeat the enemy over there.  You will eventually reach some water
that you can dive into.  You will need to use the Crossbow’s Legacy Drive in
order to survive the swim.  Take a dive into the water, and swim downwards until
you reach a hole.  Swim through the hole, and then swim upwards.  Once you reach
the surface, jump out of the water, and jump up the path in front of you.  Follow
the path and you will eventually see 2 Ley Seeds in the background.  Don’t worry
about the Ley Seeds just yet.  Take out the enemies in front of you.  Jump up to
the platform on the left side.  There will be some enemies up here; one of the
enemies has your Rod.  There will be another platform that you can jump to that
has a Ley Line if you are interested.  Once you have gotten the Rod jump back
down, and another green enemy will appear.  Beat him to death with the Rod, and
make him give you back your Snake Sword.  Once you have gotten the Snake Sword
back, look over at the 2 Ley Seeds.  They will be to your left.  Now, look at the
platform across from the Ley Seeds.  There should be an enemy up there.  Go over
to the platform on the right.  Once you reach the platform (you will have to use
the Pole Vault jump and grab the side), take out the enemy.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Getting the Ley Seeds for the Broad Sword:
(I feel that this topic deserves it own little section.)
Now, Eliel should tell you what you will have to do on the platform that you are
on.  Alrighty then, go to the edge of the platform (walk with the directional
pad), and line up the camera so that you can see the 2 Ley Seeds in the distance
(one of the Ley Seeds might be covered up by Josh’s life bar).  OK, now LISTEN to
me here.  You will have to switch to the Rod.  Do a Pole Vault jump over to the
Ley Seeds.  As soon as you do the jump, you must QUICKLY switch to the Snake
Sword, and IMMEDIATELY do the Sword Grapple. (Legacy Action button).  I cannot
stress IMMEDIATELY enough! (In other words, press the Legacy Action button like
a “maniac” once you switch to the Snake Sword)
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
After you get over there, collect the 2 Ley Seeds.  A cutscene will activate once
you get the second Ley Seed.  The cutscene will show you an area behind the
waterfall.  Go there now.  Once you have reached the area behind the waterfall,
go into the tunnel.  See the 2 switches on the ground?  Both of them have to be
activated at the same time.  You will need to stand on one of the switches, and
use the Broad Sword’s Legacy Drive.  Go over, and stand on the other switch.
Now, go to the door in front of you.  A cutscene will activate.  A boss fight
will start.
===============================================================
Boss:
Dr. Wiseman (with many special guests appearances!)
First of all, you must get rid of the Laser Barrier that he is hiding behind.  To
do that you will have to take out those 2 spinning orange-robot-looking-things.
You will have enemies swarming you this entire fight.  You can kill the enemies,
but the problem is that another enemy will join in.  In other words, there will
always be 4 enemies chasing you, and the mad doctor will always be trying to hit
with that boomerang of his.  I use either the Giant Axe’s or the Broad Sword’s
Hard Slash (HS) to take out the orange robots.  Once you have taken out the
orange robots, the laser barrier will disappear.  After the barrier disappears,
concentrate your attack on Dr. Wiseman.  It is best to use either the Giant Axe
or the Broad Sword to beat him.  If you start to run out of life, don’t forget to
use the Crossbow Legacy Drive.  You will get the Boomerang after you beat him.
The Mayan Ruins
After the cutscenes, you will be standing in front of a temple.  If you go up to
the temple, Eliel will start to babble about how you can’t get in.  You need to
find another entrance.  Some enemies might start to attack you.  There are some
right next to you, to the left.  You need to go over to the right of the temple.
From there, you need to go over to the area on the right (below the helicopters
on the side of the cliff in the distance).  You will be fighting a few enemies
along the way.  The red and blue Wisdom enemies will make their appearance for
the first time.  Once you reach the area on the right, go down the ladder.  After
you get down the ladder, proceed down the corridor in front of you.  You will run
into a sniper enemy along the way.  Keep going forward until you run into some
more enemies.  There will also be a Ley Line to your left.  Now, proceed down the
corridor to your right.  More enemies (of course!).  Keep going forward until you
reach a pool of water.  You must use the Crossbow’s Legacy Drive, and then dive
in.  Swim straight ahead.  There will be a hole in the top where you can surface
once you have gone so far.  Now, grab the side and pull yourself up.  2 enemies
will greet you.  Take them out, and continue forward.  Keep going until you
activate a cutscene (Action Movie 22).
Take out the enemies, and go through the door that just opened.  You will need to
maneuver your way through the flames.  Stay on one side, and slowly work your way
through.  Once you reach the end, proceed through the door.  There are 4 enemies
in here (the ones with the spears).  There is a Ley Seed up ahead of you.  Go
over to the right side, you will find a statue head that is not spewing flames.
Use the Sword’s Legacy Drive on the face of the statue.  Now, a red skull will
drop down in the middle of the area ahead.  Go down the right side, and you will
see the skull and the first Ley Seed for the Boomerang.  Grab them both.  Now go
back to the room where the enemy disappeared in the cutscene a while back.  Go
towards the middle of the room.  Josh will automatically use the red skull on the
statue.  A new door will open.  Take out the enemies around you, and go through
the new opening.
Go forward until you reach another door.  Go through this door, and a cutscene
will activate.  The skull and next Ley Seed are at the top center of the room.
You will need to Pole Vault Jump and grab the side of a few ledges until you
reach the top center.  I like to use the right side.  Jump over to the closest
ledge on the right side with the Pole Vault jump.  Now, you can use either the
Pole Vault jump, or jump normally to the rest of the platforms in front of you.
You eventually reach a platform where you will have to turn and jump to the
right.  After that, jump over to the center platform using the Pole Vault jump
(you will have to switch to your bare hands and grab the side).  Now grab the Ley
Seed.  Turn around and go over to the side of the platform, which is next to the
left statue head.  You will need to jump over to the left platform and use your
Katar’s Legacy Drive on the face of the statue.  Go back over to the middle
platform and collect the blue skull.  You will need to go back to the room that
you came from, and use the blue skull.
Another door will open.  Proceed through the doorway and through the next door.
There will be a Ley Line in front of you.  Go over to the left area, and use the
Boomerang’s Legacy Drive.  Stand in the middle of the room while using the Legacy
Drive.  After using the Legacy Drive, go back to the center and collect the green
skull.  Go back to the room that you came from, and use the green skull.  An area
up high will open (above the doorway that brought you into this place).  You will
need to use the Pole Vault jump, and grab the side of the raised area in front of
the doorway to get up there.  There will be a Ley Line next to the door at the
top.  Now, go through the door, and a cutscene will activate.  You will have to
fight another boss.
===============================================================
Boss:
Zera
She is not really too tough, but she can be very hard to hit.  She will make 4
images of herself and circle around you.  Now, all the images will either: (1)
Come toward you and circle around you a bit, and then attack, or (2) the real
Zera will shoot out a projectile at you.  To avoid (1) you will need to jump at
the moment she tries to attack.  To avoid (2) you will need to keep running
around in the middle, and dodge the projectile.  After she tries to hit you, she
will come out by herself, and try to attack.  This is when you are free to hit
her.  Really, any weapon you have got will work fine on her.  The Boomerang and
Crossbow can be used on her while she is flying.  Also, don’t forget to use the
Crossbow’s Legacy Drive if you get low on health.  You will receive the Tonfas
after this fight!
Extra Stategy: (contributed by Nick Wedge) If you use the Crossbow against Zera,
press the lock-on button when she does her split attack, and Josh will
automatically lock-on to the real Zera.  This makes the battle a bit easier.
Stage 7
*******
Wisdom Headquarters
After the cutscenes, you will be standing in the middle of the Wisdom
Headquarters!  Many enemies will try to attack you in this area.  There are about
8 enemies in this room!  After you have gone forward a little, a cutscene will
start.  The cutscene will show you the area to your left (Restricted Area), the
area to your right (its open!) and the main elevator (in the middle).  You will
need to go up the stairs to your right, and go over to that open hallway to your
right.  As you proceed up the staircase on the right, a cutscene will activate
(Action Movie 23).  There will be some enemies once you reach the top of the
staircase.  Go over to the hallway on your left.  Keep proceeding down the
hallway (fighting the enemies as you go) until you run into 2 elevators.  Go down
the elevator to your left.  After the minor cutscene, proceed out into the hall.
You will face about 4 enemies.  You can go down the right path into the door at
the end of that area, but all that is in there are more enemies (about 7).  Take
the path to your left, and you will notice a door at the end.  Walk toward the
door.  There is another hallway to your right just before you reach the door.
(You can skip the next paragraph if you just want to finish the game.  It is not
necessary.)
Keep proceeding to the door in front of you.  An enemy will literally be waiting
at the door for you.  Take him out and go into the library.  Walk toward the
stairs in the library and a cutscene will activate (Action Movie 24).  There is
really no point in going up the stairs right now (refer to the Secrets Section if
you want to obtain Special Game 3, which is very close!).
If you are coming out of the Library, then you will need to go down the hallway
in front of you that is about midways down.  If you did not read the last
paragraph, then go down the hallway to your right.  Get in the elevator.  After
the cutscene, go toward the left and fight off the enemies.  Proceed to the door
in front of you at the end of the hall.  3 enemies will attack you.  Proceed
through the next door.  3 more enemies will attack.  Now, go through the door on
the other side.  Hah, Another door!  Go through it!  You should eventually reach
a room with a big pool in the middle of it.  There is a Ley Line on the left side
if you need it.  Enemies will swarm you in this room.  You need to go over to the
diving board, which is to your right.  Climb the ladder to get up on the diving
board and a cutscene will activate (Action Movie 25).  If you did not take a
dive, then fight off the enemy, and grab the key.  Now, you will need to go all
the way back to the Restricted area (Basically where you started the level).  Go
back out of the pool room, and make your way back to the elevator.  Some more
enemies will pop up on your way back.  Once you get out of the first elevator, go
to your left and go down the hallway to your right.  Take the left elevator back
down.
Once you make your way back to the main hall that you started in, you will now
have to go over to area on the left side (Restricted area).  Go over to the
Restricted area and use your card.  Go down the blue hallway, and take a right.
Follow the hall until you run across some elevators.  Use the first elevator to
your left.  Proceed into the hall, (which is filled with enemies) and go over to
the door on your right.  Explore the area inside until you activate a cutscene
(_and possible glitch_ [See SECRETS Section]).  There are 3 enemies in here.  Go
up the ladder, and take out the last enemy.  Grab the disc and exit this room.
Go back out into the hallway and go to your right.  Go to the door at the end of
the hall.  Get rid of the enemies in that room, and use the disc on the
computer.  Leave the room, and go back to the elevator to your right.  Once you
get out of the elevator, go down the hall.  Proceed to your right until you reach
a room.  Get inside the elevator in that room.
Once you come out of the elevator, take out the enemies in your way, and go
straight.  Go down the stairs.  Proceed through the double-doors at the bottom.
There are plenty of enemies in this room for you take your anger out on.  There
is a Ley Line at the back right.  There is a ladder on your left.  Go up the
ladder.  You will now be on top of a ventilator.  Run to the opposite end of the
ventilator.  There should be a sniper enemy there.  Once you reach the end of the
ventilator, you will need to Pole Vault jump to the next ventilator to your
right.  When you get across to the right ventilator, you will notice a pipe above
you.  Grab the pipe and pull yourself over to the platform that it leads to.  Go
up the ladder on the platform.  Go up the next ladder also.  You will run into an
enemy.  Take him out, and pull the switch on the right.  Now the main elevator is
on!
Slide down the pole that is next to the switch.  Go out the gate door.  Turn to
the left, and go back the way you came.  Go up the stairs and back into the
elevator.  Once out of the elevator, go to the right, and go back into the main
hall.  Now you will need to go down the stairs, and use the elevator in the
middle of the room (main elevator).  Some enemies will try to stop you (beat them
with the Giant Axe for me!).
(You can now go and get Special Game 3 from the Library.  See SECRETS Section)
After you ride the elevator up, go through the door in front of you.  A cutscene
will activate.  Now, you can go one of 2 ways (you will eventually have to do
them both.).
1) Go to the left.  Take out the enemies, and go straight ahead.   Go through the
door in front of you (ignore the annoying sniper for now).    You will fight 3
more enemies after you go through the door.  Look over at the fireplace.  An
item!  Grab the item.  You can go up the stairs to your left and take out that
sniper if you want.  Go back the way you came.
2) Go through the door in front of you.  Take out the 2 enemies and make your way
through the next few doors.  You will eventually enter an office.  Grab the item
to your left.  Go back the way you came.
Once you have the 2 items, use them on the door that was shown in the cutscene
earlier.  Proceed through the door and through the next door.  You will
eventually reach a room where you must stand in the middle and do your Legacy
Drive’s in a certain order.  The color on the floor will show you which weapon to
do the Legacy Drive for.
The order is: (the same order that you got the weapons)
Sword
Rod
Katars
Snake Sword
Crossbow
Giant Axe
Broad Sword
Boomerang
Tonfas
Now an elevator will open in front of you.  Go through the elevator.  Go down the
hall and through the door at the end.  A cutscene will activate, and you will
have to fight a boss.
===============================================================
Boss:
Agla
Agla can be kind of tough.  You have to watch out for his regular slashes, and
his Legacy Drives.  If he starts to do a Legacy Drive then get away from him!
You can win this fight by running from him and using the Crossbow if you are
patient enough.  The Katars’ Hard Slash (HS) works nice also.  Any weapon that
you have seems to work well against him but I would not recommend using the
Sword.  He takes quite a beating before going down so try to use a powerful
weapon.  If your health starts to go down too much, then use the Crossbow’s
Legacy Drive.
===============================================================
After you beat him, you will see a cutscene.  You will then have to fight the
final boss.
===============================================================
Boss: (final)
Agla (fused w/original Legacy)
This boss can be a real pain (I’m talking about controller-throwing-tough!  Well,
at least the first time)  His Legacy Drives can take tons of health.  If he looks
like he is about to do some big attack, take my advice, and get away from him!
You will need to pay attention to the color of his body.  That is the color of
the weapon that will hurt him the most.
If he turns…
Clear – use the Bare Hands
Orange – use the Sword
Blue – use the Rod
Aqua Blue – use the Katars
Purple – use the Snake Sword
Pink – use the Crossbow
Grey – use the Giant Axe
Yellow – use the Broad Sword
Green – use the Boomerang
White – use the Tonfas
He is constantly moving and trying to attack you.  Once you find the right weapon
for him, then go up and beat the living crap out of him!  I have found that it is
almost better to use any other weapon, once he turns clear, than your Bare
Hands.  The Bare Hands still do not take off enough!  Don’t forget to use the
Crossbow’s Legacy Drive if you start to run low on health.  You can also use the
Tonfas’ and Broad Sword’s Legacy Drives for pretty good results.  Good luck!
===============================================================
Once you beat him, you will see the end of the game.  Don’t forget to save it!
Refer to the SECRETS section to find out some extra things that you can do once
you beat the game.
Bonus:
Special Game 1: Survival Mode
Received on top of a rooftop in the first stage.  To get the Special Game, find
the alley that is to your left, a little ways after you come out of the subway.
There will be a gate back there.  Hop onto the trashcan and use the Pole Vault
jump to get over the gate.  Climb the ladder on the building behind the gate.
The Special Game icon will be on top of the building waiting for you!
Special Game 2: 3 Min. Battle
After you get the second Ley seed for the Katars, go down the ladder on the side
of the building.  Go over to the next building.  You will need to use the Pole
Vault jump to get to the next building.  Once on top, go over to the left and you
will see the Special Game icon.
Special Game 3: Boss Battle
Received in the Library of the Final Stage (Stage 7).  You must go back to the
library after you have turned on the main elevator.  Then, and only then, the
door at the top of the stairs in the library will open for you.  You will need to
go through another door, and you will eventually have to jump across the
chandelier in the middle of the room.  You will reach another door where the
Special Game 3 icon will be waiting for you, along with 2 enemies.
Twin Blade Weapons:
As mentioned in the weapons section, the twin blades are the secret weapons of
the game.  You will receive the twin blades after you have beaten the game.  The
twin blades can be maxed out just like any other weapon.
Max out your weapons:
Once you beat the game, you can start a new game from your old save file if you
saved it.  When you receive the weapons over again, they will be at the same
level they were at when you beat the game.  After you have gone through the game
about 3 times, you may be able to max out all your weapons!
Glitch:
Although this is not really a secret, I just had to mention this because it is so
funny!  If you go over to the Restricted Area in the last level (Stage 7), and go
through that hallway (you must already have the cardkey), and if you do not see
ANY enemies, then the glitch will probably work.  Use the elevator and go to the
fourth floor.  Go over to the door to your right, and go through it.  If there
are no enemies in here then the glitch will work.  Keep moving until a cutscene
starts.  The cutscene will show Josh sneaking up on HIMSELF (another Josh) who is
going up a ladder.  The game will eventually freeze, and you will have to reset
it.  This happened the third time I went through the game.
If anyone knows the true way to activate this glitch then email me!
([email protected]).  (Thanks to spiderXero for telling me about this
glitch.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[1]
Q) I keep trying, but I still cannot get the Broad Sword Ley Seeds.  Can you help
me?
A) OK, when you switch to the Snake Sword after the Pole Vault jump, you will
need to IMMEDIATELY (tremendously fast, quickly, hurriedly, speedily, until you
are red in the face, as if your life depended on that split second in time) do
the Sword Grapple!
[2]
Q) Where is the R3 button?
A) The R3 button is the right analog.  If you press the right analog like a
button you will here it click.  This is the R3 button.  (Same for the L3 button)
[3]
Q) How exactly do you get over the dang lake where you have to use the Snake
Sword, because it doesn’t work?
A) *sigh* See first question
[4]
Q) Why do you say that you should use the bare hands on the clear form of Agla
when other weapons takes off more damage?
A) Yeah, the bare hands are really useless against him, but I believe that you
are supposed to use the bare hands against the clear form.  I, myself, would
rather use any other weapon, like I said in the walkthrough.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EVE OF EXTINCTION REVIEW
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A bio-genetics corporation known as Wisdom develops a new weapon.  This new
weapon known as “Legacy” will allow Wisdom to achieve world wide military
control.  Josh and his girlfriend Eliel find out about Wisdom’s plan and try to
stop them.  Wisdom kidnaps both of them and uses Eliel’s soul to make a new
Legacy, the Eve of Extinction (EOE).  Josh escapes from Wisdom and takes the
EOE.  Now it is up to Josh to stop Wisdom from continuing their plans of global
domination, and get Eliel back to her original form.  From the makers of Sword of
the Berserk for Dreamcast (Yukes and Eidos), comes Eve of Extinction for PS2.
Graphics
The Graphics in EOE consist of well-detailed character models and nicely designed
weapon effects.  The main characters of EOE are very well detailed and stand out
much more than the normal enemies.  The character animations are crisp and
stylish.  The main characters look really nice during the cutscenes.  Polygon
breakup is, for the most part, “non-existent”.  There may be a few occasions
where a weapon might slip through a wall or the floor while striking an enemy.
The backgrounds consist of many different outdoor and indoor areas such as cities
and mountain type regions.  The backgrounds are in complete 3-D and allow for
free roaming.  There are altogether 7 different stages that the player must make
his or her way through.  The special effects on the weapons are taken directly
from Soul Caliber.  Each weapon leaves a trail of lighting effects as Josh swings
them at enemies.  EOE has 10 different weapons to choose from.  When the player
changes from one weapon to the next, the weapon will actually morph into the next
weapon.  The weapon’s Legacy Drives can release some great graphical eye candy,
especially the time stop ability.
The only flaw in the graphics is the fact that many of the enemies that Josh
fights at the beginning of the game have a “generic” appearance.  The enemies
will all be wearing the same outfit (dark green business suits).  A little
originality in the development of some of the enemies would have would have been
nice.  The enemies in the later stages look a little better, but the same enemy
will pop up too frequently.  The camera angles can get a little annoying as
well.  The camera does not always follow behind Josh.
8/10
Sound
The stage music in EOE is good, not great, but good.  No real memorable music is
present in EOE.  When the player runs across enemies, the game will start to play
some upbeat disco type of music, which may start to annoy the player after the
5th enemy encounter.  Many of the enemies will let out a casual grunt whenever
Josh hits them.  The weapons make some cool sound effects when Josh swings each
one, but whenever the weapon hits an enemy it make the sound as if someone was
hitting a plaster wall with a mop.  The voice acting is a major strong point.
Cam Clarke, who does the voice for Liquid Snake (MGS2) and Puck (Sword of the
Berserk), does the voice of Josh Calloway.  The cutscenes are especially
memorable because of the well-written and spoken dialogue.
7/10
Gameplay
Ah…the gameplay!  The gameplay is the main savior of EOE.  Fighting has never
been so deep in a brawler!  When Josh first starts out, he only has two weapons
at his disposal, and they are very weak.  However, once Josh starts to gain more
weapons the game will get addicting.  Josh has 10 different weapons, which allow
him to do many different weapon combos.  Josh is allowed to switch to a different
weapon during the middle of any combo to finish the combo.  He can dish out 7 hit
combos with ease once his weapons have gone up enough in level.  The fighting
never does get too boring because each weapon has many different combos that can
be done.  For instance, Josh can do a 4 hit combo with the rod, and then switch
to the axe and finish off the combo by hitting the enemy with an overhead strike,
which hits about 4-5 times.  Each weapon starts out at a low level with only a
few combinations available.  As gamers start to level up each weapon, EOE will
start to get a lot more interesting as many more combinations become available.
Eve of Extinction combines action and adventure, so it is not a full-fledged
brawler.  In some instances, Josh might have to explore an area while trying to
look for an item or a switch.  Eliel will constantly give the player hints if he
or she gets stuck.  The player is expected to perform a few dangerous jumps that
could lead to much frustration if the controls are not mastered.
The controls take time to get used to.  There are areas where the player will be
forced to switch to Josh’s bare hands in order to progress further.  For
instance, there are a few parts where Josh has to do a jump that can only be done
with his rod and reach a high platform.  Josh might have to switch to his bare
hands in order to grab the side of the platform and pull himself up.  The
controls can be very frustrating at first, but after a while of playing,
everything will come natural.  The only problem with the controls is that the
lock-on button is also the block button, so gamers will always be blocking while
locked on to an enemy.
Normal enemies provide minimal challenge in the first few stages, but they sure
can gang up on Josh quickly.  There is a boss (and occasionally a midboss) at the
end of each stage.  Many of the bosses can be quite tough.  Some bosses require
the player to perform a specific task before he or she can actually hit the
boss.  Each level has a few cutscenes where the player will have to enter certain
button combinations during the cutscenes to keep from taking damage. (Much like
the Quick-time-events of Sword of the Berserk or Shenmue)
8/10
Lifespan
EOE can easily be beaten in about a day, the first time through.  The game allows
the player to bring each weapon up five levels.  Each time the game is completed,
gamers will be able to start a new game with the same leveled up weapons.  The
player will have to beat the game at least three times in order to max out every
weapon.  There are also a few special games that can be found throughout the 7
stages.  The special games include a survivor mode, and a few other modes.  There
is also a special weapon that can be unlocked.
9/10
Originality
EOE combines a little bit of Soul Reaver (platform), Soul Caliber (weapon and
combat), and Sword of the Berserk (action and cutscene) into a nice blend.  The
new weapon based approach to combat is excellent!  The story could have been
better. But hey, we do not play brawler-type games for the story alone!  Also, a
few more character models for the normal enemies would have made the enemy
encounters more enjoyable.
8/10
Overall
If you like plenty of action in your game, and you like a few breaks in between
the action, then you will love Eve of Extinction.  EOE might be getting some bad
reviews from some areas of the gaming business, but you have to actually play the
game to judge it for yourself.  The game does have its flaws, but a hardcore
action fan can look past the flaws and realize the perfect gameplay.
Overall Rating: 8/10
Cheat Happens, Cheat Code Central, Gameguru Mania, Jester Race, Neoseeker,
GameNation, Computerunderground, CheatCodes.com, and Joel’s site – for posting my
FAQ on their sites!
Cam Clarke (voice of Josh Calloway) – Thank-you for having such an amazing voice
talent.  I don’t know of anyone else that can go from doing a forest-elf voice
(Puck – Sword of the Berserk) to doing Liquid’s freaking awesome voice in Metal
Gear Solid!  You da man! Keep up the great voice-overs!
spiderXero – for telling me about the glitch!
golbez66 – for convincing me to write a FAQ. (yeah, you remember.) You should
write one too! ^_^  *gives you Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! and a Nintendo*
Colban (the magnificent) – for telling me about the twin blade combo that I
forgot to add on my prior updates.
Michael Wilson from PS2 Update – for allowing me to write a few reviews for him.
Go and visit his site, I order you! Muaha! :) (http://www.ps2update.net)
Nick Wedge – for the Zera strategy.
All the people who emailed me – I appreciate your comments.
