Version 0.4 25/01/01 AstroBlue added and finished NINTENDO 64 VERSION and TRANSFER PAK RELATED section, finished more of the Singles WALKTHROUGH and the TRAINING LESSONS sections and fixed some errors and added numerous bits. Shdwrlm3 added Gameshark codes to the CODES & SECRETS and some random things. Version 0.5 27/01/01 AstroBlue added some info on the Star & Warehouse Courts. Version 1.0 03/02/01 AstroBlue started & finished the Doubles WALKTHROUGH. Minimised the criteria for unlocking the Warehouse Court thanks to ikillkenny (through AIM). Also fixed random stuff. Version 1.1 07/02/01 Shdwrlm3 wondered why Astroblue skipped a few versions, plus added more Gameshark Codes and a new FAQ. Next Version ??/02/01 We really only need to add one more section to finish this FAQ. Which is the N64 TOURNAMENTS, what it contains is self explanatory. =============================================================================== 1)GETTING STARTED =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i)Controls ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- _______ |General| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Control Pad- Move cursor in Menus A Button- ·Accept selections in Menus. ·Talk to people/Read signs in Academy. Now the Mario Tour mode will start! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- iv)Tennis Tips and Basics ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- _________ |The Court| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Here is a diagram of a tennis court so you become acquainted with the names of each part: |¯¯¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯¯| Base Line | | Backcourt | | | A | | A | | l |-----------------| l | Service Line | l | | | l | | e | Forecourt | e | | y | | | y | | | | | | |###########################| Net | | | | | | A | | | A | | l | Forecourt | l | | l | | | l | | e |-----------------| e | Service Line | y | | y | | | Backcourt | | |___|________|________|___| Base Line Center Service Line: The line in the middle of the Backcourt Center Mark: The little line coming from the middle of the Base Line. Singles Sidelines: The interior lines of the Alleys Doubles Sidelines: The exterior lines of the Alleys _______ |Serving| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ When serving a player must strike the ball so it lands in the receivers Fore Court on the opposite side of the Center Service Line, this area is called the Service Box. If you don't understand that don't worry, it is very hard not to hit it there in this game. Just use the Control Pad to move your character in position, then press the A or B Button to toss the ball in the air. Now press the A Button for a Top Spin serve, the B Button for a Slice serve or both Buttons simultaneously for a Smash serve. Press a direction on the Control Pad while you press the Button to aim the serve. For a sure fire Ace, make the ball land in the corner where the Sideline meets the Service Line! _________________ |Receiving a Serve| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ When receiving a serve make sure you hit the ball after its first bounce or the point will be awarded to your opponent. Also in Doubles you must not go over the other side of the court (marked by the Center Mark). _____________________________ |Winning the Game, Set & Match| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ A basic rule of tennis is to make your opponent run a lot, try aiming your shots so they alternate from the left to right sides of the court. Also variations in the types of shots you do can confuse your opponent, for example do a Drop Shot (B Button then A Button) so the ball lands just over the net then when your opponent hits it back do a Strong Top Spin shot (A button twice) so it flies over their head & to the back of the court. Another good tactic is to play really close to the net, you will need much quicker reflexes but so will your opponent. Also when you play close to the net against inexperienced or low level players you sometimes will hit the ball into their feet, the umpire always awards the point to you if this happens. Apart from that the best advice is to keep your eye on the ball at all times! __________________ |Doubles Strategies| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Winning a Doubles match is simple, you must never leave a gap in your defence! To do this have the "Up Player" (in the Forecourt) attack the ball furiously, if you see a gap use a Top Spin shot or a Smash Volley. If there is a player really close to you and their support player is not behind them do a Lob Shot. The "Back Player" (in the Backcourt) should support the other player by staying on the Service Line or Base Line and running back and forth to every shot (even if it looks like the "Up Player" definitely has it). =============================================================================== 2)GENERAL INFORMATION =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i)The Characters ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: Some of the info on how to unlock the original players is speculation. A: Yes, Shdwrlm3 was the first person we know of to be able to hack some codes they are in Section 8)CODES & SECRETS. - - - - - - - - - - Q: How do I do 150 Swings in 10 Seconds?, it seems impossible! A: Where there is a will there is a way! The best idea is to use the "Knuckle & Wood" Trick that was widely used in the Mario Party's. To do this get a hard object or your knuckle and wrap it in cloth or your sleave. Then rub it up and down over the A Button. Make sure you don't scratch your Game Boy. - - - - - - - - - - Q: Why is it so hard to win with my transferred character(s) in the N64 Version? A: All of the Mario Characters that you play against in the Tournaments are fully developed, so if your transferred character is on a low level (around less then 25) the fully developed Mario Characters will obliterate your not fully developed transferred character. - - - - - - - - - - Q: How do you get Yoshi, Wario, Waluigi & Bowser? A: You need a Nintendo 64, The N64 version of Mario Tennis & a Transfer Pak. Then set everything up, then in the Transfer Menu you have to select the N64 Characters option, then wallah! They are unlocked. See Section 9 for more info. - - - - - - - - - - Q: Why is my Double partner so useless? A: Well it could be from one of two reasons. 1)You neglected giving him/her Ex.Pts. 2)The AI is to blame. Actually we have done some experiments and we think the AI is homogeneous, meaning if you play a certain style it will play the same style which may not be best for your Partners stats. For example: As Alex you usually run around with quick controlled shots, so Harry will run around with quick controlled shots which does not suite his generally Power & Spin based stats. This means instead of making them have contrasting stats you should make them have similar stats. - - - - - - - - - - Q: How do I make my shot curve like Curt & Boo do? A: Build up your Spin stats up alot, Slice makes the ball curve inwards (left if you right handed) and Top Spin make the ball curve outwards (right if your righthanded. - - - - - - - - - - Q. What the heck is the Restaurant/Cafeteria for?! A. In most RPGs, the Cafe is the player's best source of information! The same holds true for Mario Tennis! If you look at the manual, it clearly states that the Restaurant (called The Service Ace) is best used to get advice from fellow students to help you play a better game. - - - - - - - - - - Q: Where the heck is Kevin?! A: Yes, it seems strange that you can play as Mark and Emily but not as Kevin, doesn't it? Well, it seems that they had originally planned to make him a playable character, and even made art for his face (the face that appears next to your score during a match). Unfortunately, it seems like they thought it was useless since you never have to play him in a match and thus they never had to create sprites for him. However, thanks to my trusty Gameshark, there IS technically a way to play as him, which you can find in the Gameshark section of the Codes & Secrets section. You'll see Kevin's face next to your score, but the sprite will look like A. Coz. (because, like I said, they never made sprites for Kevin). - - - - - - - - - - Q: The intro is too long! Is there any way to skip it? A: Yes there is! Just perform a soft reset (Hold Start, Select, A, and B at the same time) and choose your Mario Tour file from the Main Menu again. You'll start off in your dormitory, and will have skipped that looong intro! - - - - - - - - - - Q: Why did a lose all the data on my game when I used the Transfer Pak? A: Due to the way the data is managed in Mario Tennis if you bump the Transfer Pak while you "Refresh" all data you can lose all the data on your Game Pak. - - - - - - - - - - Q: I can't get the GS codes to work! A: Hmm... that can be because of a variety of reasons. Make sure you're using a V 3.0 or 3.1 GS. Also, make sure you're entering the code correctly. Always push the GS switch to the OFF position before starting the game. If your GS always freezes, it's most likely the cartridge itself, and not the GS, causing the problems. If that's the case, try to get a replacement cartridge, or, if you're still fairly early in the game, clear the RAM (Saved Data) on your cartridge. I can't promise that either of those methods will work, but I personally am having no trouble getting the codes to work, so I don't know what else to tell you. =============================================================================== 4)WALKTHROUGH =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i)Singles ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ____________ |Junior Class| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ After all of the intro (Bumping into the headmaster & the tour with Emily) you will be in you dorm with your partner. So ask him/her questions then when your ready head to the Training Court. Look at the Training Lessons section if you have trouble on any of the following Lessons. Firstly head right and talk to Blue Beth who is standing below a umpires chair, and you will start the Net Game Practice 1. Once that is finished talk to Blue Brian above her to compete in Net Game Match 1 with him. Now head left and talk to Pink Bob who is talking to Red Allie, and you will start the Stroke Practice 1. Now once you have completed that talk to Red Allie to compete in Stroke Match 1 with him. After beating him head up and talk to Red Curt to start the Service Practice 1. Once that is out of the way head up and talk to Blue Bob to compete against him in Service Match 1. Now exit the Training Court and head to the Junior Class Court. But if you want the next matches to be extremely easy get your levels up by going into the Training Center and playing the Wall Practice in the door to the left & the Tennis Machine in the door to the right. See the Training Lessons section for more info. Anyway head to the Junior Court. Firstly you can play a practice match (3-Set/6 Games) with Brian, who is the the guy wearing a sweat band in green sitting on a bench. Then go and talk to Junior Class Coordinator who is the guy wearing blue right in front of where you enter this court, he will organise matches with the 4th, 3rd, 2nd & 1st Ranked Players in the Junior Class. They are all 3-Set Matches (6 Games a Set) here are strategies for playing against them: 4th Rank Match - Pam Extremely easy, just stay on the baseline and return her shots with a lot of power. 3rd Rank Match - Curt Still very easy! Just use the Drop Shot, run to the net & Smash technique. He is very slow but has extremely strong slice, so watch out when he serves! 2nd Rank Match - Beth Stay around the service line and vary your returns, eventually & inevitably she will miss one in the Rally. 1st Rank Match - Bob He's fairly hard if you're on a one digit level. Like Curt, just use the Drop Shot, run to the net & Smash technique, as he is a big slow oaf! After beating Bob the Junior Court Coordinator will award you the Singles Junior Class Medal. ____________ |Senior Class| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ If you feel like changing your racket, go to the Repair Counter in the Training Center and talk to the guy. You can now use the Large Racket. It increases your control, but lowers your power and speed. Once you're ready go to the Training Court and talk to all the people you did before to compete in all the Level 2 Practice & Training Matches. See the Training Lessons section for strategies. Then go to the Senior Court, talk to Orange Fay who is swinging her racket on the far left court to play a senior practice match with her (3-Set/6 Games). Then talk to Emily, who will organise matches with the 4th, 3rd, 2nd & 1st Ranked Players in the Senior Class. They are all 3-Set Matches (6 Games a Set). Here are strategies for playing against them: 4th Rank Match - Red Brian This guy is a breeze, just play an aggressive net game! 3rd Rank Match - Pink Joy Just stay in the backcourt and hit back hard, if she gets too close to the net lob the ball over her head. 2nd Rank Match - Yellow Allie Just use the Drop Shot, run to the net & Smash technique. This guy falls for it every time. And I do mean *EVERY* time! 1st Rank Match - Blue Fay Stand around the Service Line and just keep hitting back a variety of shots. She is fairly challenging but you should have her down in no time. After beating the Blue Fay, Emily will award you the Singles Senior Class Medal. _____________ |Varsity Squad| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Now go to the Training Court and talk to all the people you did before the last two times to compete in all the Level 3 Practice & Training Matches. See the Training Lessons section for strategies. Then go to the Varsity Court. You can talk to Green Fay who is swinging her racket on the lower part of the court to play a Varsity practice match with her (3-Set/6 Games). After that talk to Kevin (the one in green) and he will set up a match with the 4th ranked Travelling Team member. Travelling Team Ranking Match - Blue Bob Use a combination of aggressive net play and the drop shot technique to beat him. He is really just a faster Bob! Then Kevin, Mark, Emily and your partner will congratulate you and a screen with TO BE CONTINUED will come up. _______________ |Travelling Team| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Now after continuing your file, your partner will tell you that you have to go to the headmasters office. In his office the headmaster will congratulate you then he will tell you to that your going to the Island Open in the morning. When you wake up you, Mark, Emily, Kevin & the Headmaster will fly off to the Island Open. Now explore the island then go to the Organisation Centre (in the middle, below Center Court) and stand on the free circle next to the unpaired player each round to play. All matches at the Island Open are 5-Set/6 Games and the people you play are... 1st Round - Sammi To beat Sammi stand just behind the Service Line and return her shots the best you can, from rallying you will eventually win. 2nd Round - Spike Spike uses a tricky curving Drop Shot. The effect of the curve is larger the further back on the court you are so... Play an extremely aggressive Net Play game. 3rd Round - Emily Emily's biggest weakness is her dive! She misses a lot with it and it takes her a while to get up from one. So attack her style of play with swaying Net Play, i.e Hit to the left then hit to the right, repeat while up close to the net. Final Round - A.Coz Use the "Drop Shot, charge the net & hit a Strong shot" technique. And you should win in no time. After winning you, Kevin & A.Coz will go to the Medal Ceremony. A.Coz is extremely sour because of his loss. Once you have been awarded the Island Open Trophy, the credits will roll. Followed by another TO BE CONTINUED. Then you'll will appear in the headmasters office. And the headmaster will tell you about Mario. Mario has given you an invitation to play him in Mario World. You'll hop on a plane and fly to somewhere under the rainbow... and the game will reset. Once you continue your game you will find yourself in Peach's Castle. All the gang is here! The villains want you to play Mario right away, say yes if you want to play right away or no if you don't. You can always come back and talk to the Princess if you want to play Mario. Exhibition Match - Mario Mario is best faced by standing behind the Service Line and rallying back strong varied shots. But if that doesn't work try doing a Drop Shot so it lands right on the edge before the Alley, then when Mario hits it hold the direction opposite to the alley and tap the buttons a lot, the ball will knock back and forth between you and Mario, but will hopefully roll off past Mario. After beating Mario you sill see a little scene of your character with the Mario gang. Press a button then the credits will roll again but this time they will show in order the events of the game. Congrats! You have finished the Singles Mario Tour. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ii)Doubles ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You can select to play with your partner using two different ways: Select the Doubles option after selecting a Mario tour file or Go to your Dorm and say no to all of your partners questions until they ask if you want to play Doubles with them. ____________ |Junior Class| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Head to the Junior Class Court, you can play a practice match (3-Set/6 Games) with Joy & Purple Allie by talking to Joy in the top right corner of the Junior Courts. Then go and talk to Junior Class Coordinator who is the guy wearing blue right in front of where you enter this court, he will organise matches with the 4th, 3rd, 2nd & 1st Ranked Players in the Junior Class. They are all 3-Set Matches (6 Games a Set). You play Brian & Red Fay in the 3rd Rank Match, Beth & Pam in the 2nd Rank Match and Bob & Curt in the 1st Rank Match. After beating Bob & Curt the Junior Court Coordinator will award you the Doubles Junior Class Medal. ____________ |Senior Class| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Go to the Senior Court, talk to Red Bob in the top left corner to play a practice match with him & Green Pam (3-Set/6 Games). Then talk to Emily, who will organise matches with the 4th, 3rd, 2nd & 1st Ranked Players in the Senior Class. They are all 3-Set Matches (6 Games a Set). You play Yellow Beth & Green Curt in the 3rd Rank Match, Purple Joy & Red Brian in the 2nd Rank Match and Blue Fay & Yellow Allie in the 1st Rank Match. After beating the Blue Fay & Yellow Allie, Emily will award you the Doubles Senior Class Medal. _____________ |Varsity Squad| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Go to the Varsity Court. You can talk to Green Fay to play a Varsity Practice Match against her & Purple Curt (3-Set/6 Games). After that talk to Kevin (the one in green) and he will set up a match with the 2nd ranked Travelling Team Doubles Partners who are Mark & Blue Bob. Once you win Kevin, Mark & Emily will congratulate you and a screen with TO BE CONTINUED will come up. _______________ |Travelling Team| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Now after continuing your file, your partner will tell you that both of you have to go to the headmasters office. In his office the headmaster will congratulate you both then he will tell you to that your going to the Island Open in the morning. When you wake up you, your partner, Emily, Kevin & the Headmaster will fly off to the Island Open. Now explore the island then go to the Organisation Centre (in the middle, below Center Court) and stand on the free circles below the unpaired partners. All matches at the Island Open are 5-Set/6 Games and the people you play are Sammi & Sean in the first round, Spike & Elden in the 2nd and finally A.Coz & B. Coz in the final round. After winning you, your partner, A.Coz & B.Coz will go to the Medal Ceremony. The Costello Bros. are extremely sour because of their loss. Once you have been awarded the Island Open Trophy, the credits will roll. Followed by another TO BE CONTINUED. Then you will appear in the headmaster's office. After beating Mario & Peach you sill see a little scene of your characters with the Mario gang. Press a button then the credits will roll again but this time they will show in order the events of the game. Congrats! You have finished the Doubles Mario Tour. =============================================================================== 5)TRAINING LESSONS =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i)Training Court ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the Mario Tour mode, the coaches in the Training Court will teach you various techniques that are very helpful into getting to the Island Open. Here are strategies for completing them: ____________ |Junior Class| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ All of these lessons give you 50 Exp Pts on completion. Net Play Practice 1 Stand on the Center Mark the serve, when you serve hold the direction away from the receiver. Then as soon as you serve head up past the Service Line and hit the ball so it lands in the Target Area. Do it 4 times in a row to clear the practice Net Play Match 1 Use the same technique as the Net Game Practice. Don't worry about your challenger he hardly ever volleys, so he never gets any points. If you win and he misses you win. Stroke Practice 1 Just return all the serves to the target area. To do this effectively head up to the middle of the court and use a Slice shot, as other shots may not have enough carry to get past the opposite Service Line. Stroke Match 1 Stand behind the Service Line and rally (mainly using Slice) until you get 2 up on him so you win. Service Practice 1 Very easy! Just stand right on the Center Mark and while you serve hold the direction of Target Area. Service Match 1 Stand on the Center Mark and do a Smash Serve so it lands just before the alley. Hope for the best when returning his serves. ____________ |Senior Class| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ All of these lessons give you 100 Exp Pts on completion. Net Play Practice 2 Stand on the Center Mark, then hold the direction of the target area and do a deep Slice Serve. Then run up past the Service Line and do a Smash Shot. Once you do it from all 4 spots you will clear the practice. Net Play Match 2 Stand right near the alley do a deep serve, this will cause the opponent to dive for the ball (so he cannot lob). Returning his lobs is easy, so just do it!. Just make him dive twice and return his lobs twice and the you will have won the match. Stroke Practice 2 Stand on the Service Line and hold the direction the Target Area is and do a Lob. Once you do it from all 4 spots you will clear the practice. Stroke Match 2 Just do as you did in the Practice, and make sure you get in front of that service line to return his lob. Service Practice 2 Just stand on the center mark and use Slice if your serving left of your character and Top Spin if your serving right of your character, and hold the direction of the target area while you serve. After you serve properly from all four spots the practice is cleared. Service Match 2 Stand a little in from the Center Mark. And serve so it flies through the pole and curves towards the service box. To do this you have to hold the opposite direction your serving while putting spin on the ball towards the Service Box. For example on the first serve you would hold diagonally right/up while applying Slice to the ball. _____________ |Varsity Squad| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ The last level of training lessons, all of these give you 200 Exp Pts on completion. Net Play Practice 3 Serve down the line, so in other words stand on the Center Mark and hold away from the target area when you serve, then run up past the Service Line and do a drop shot. Net Play Match 3 Just Serve down the line but hit the ball just as it about to come down to head level, so the serve is slow. Then run up past the Service Line and Slice it past the other guy. Do this twice and prevent him from scoring twice to win. Stroke Practice 3 Stand just before the Service Line then when you return hold the direction of the target area (up or down) and the opposite direction the serve is coming from (left or right). So the direction you hold is a diagonal! Use a Flat Shot for best results. Do it from all four corners to clear the practice. Stroke Match 3 Just return the serves the best you can using the techniques you have learned in the 3 Stroke Practices. Get 2 up to win. Service Practice 3 Serve Down the Line, so stand on the Center Mark and hold away from the target area while your serving. Hit the ball when it is about reach it's highest point for a NICE! serve. Do it from all four corners to clear the practice. Service Match 3 If you have strong Power Serve down the line. If you have strong spin use it like you did in Service Practice 2. If you have neither use a bit of both techniques. Get 2 up to clear the final Training Lesson. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ii)Training Center ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- __________________ |Wall Practice Room| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Wall Level 1 You have to bounce the ball against the Wall 50 times. It only has one rotating bumper that has two arrows facing left and two facing right. Just use a straight Flat Shot and whack it against the wall, then when the bumper is about to be in your way Lob the ball above the bumper. You get around 315 Ex.Pts for clearing this level. Wall Level 2 This time there are two bumpers, one with yellow down bumpers the other with red up bumpers. You cannot lob it above a bumper when it is in front of you as it will hit the other bumper. So you have to hit it just before a bumper when it comes across, then you must hold the opposite direction it's moving while you hit it when it returns. If you have enough control it should go pass the bumper. Once you hit it against the wall 50 times the level will be clear and you will get around 415 Ex.Pts. Wall Level 3 Same deal as Level 3 but the bumpers change their colour and direction. Use the same technique as before to clear the level. After 50 bounces against the wall the level will be clear and you will get around 515 Ex.Pts. Wall Level 4 This is like Level 3, but it has an extra bumper like the one in Level 1. It's hard if you don't know the technique. Which is to stand in the middle of the court and use different shots according to their formation, so basically _ _ _ _|_|_ = Use a Flat Shot or |_|_|_| = Use a Lob Shot |_| |_| a Top Spin Shot. |_| You usually will just have to alternate between Flat/Top Spin Shots & Lob Shots. But you may have to do a double Flat/Top Spin Shot a couple of times so the timing isn't off. Wall Master Level Similar to the Challenge levels of the Mini-Games, all you do is try to break your own record (plus get experience). Try to see what happens if you get 9999... ___________________ |Tennis Machine Room| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Machine Level 1 You have to return 15 shots from the Tennis Machine. No mean feat!, just return to the middle after every shot. You get around 102 Ex.Pts for completing this Level. Machine Level 2 This time it moves back and forth for a minimal difference in difficulty, and you have to return 30 shots from the Machine to clear the level. You get around 204 Ex.Pts for finishing this level. Machine Level 3 This time it moves up and down as well as back and forth, and you have to return 60 shots to clear the level. You get around 409 Ex.Pts for finishing Level 3. Machine Level 4 This gets hard, not because of the accelerating speed of the the Tennis Machine. It gets hard because of the sheer boredom caused by the 100 returns you have to do to clear it. You get around 715 Ex.Pts for clearing this level. Machine Master Level Similar to the Challenge levels of the Mini-Games, all you do is try to break your own record (plus get experience). Try to see what happens if you get 9999... =============================================================================== 6)EQUIPMENT =============================================================================== You can change your equipment at the Training Center. Just talk to the guy at the counter to equip new rackets or shoes that will help you improve your game. However, you won't gain any new equipment until you get into the Senior Class. In Challenge you just compete to break your hi-score, but when your record is more than the amount of points needed to complete Level 2 you will (sometimes) unlock a court for use in Exhibition & Linked Play modes. The maximum score you can get in any Mini-Game is 9999, although this is easier to do in some Mini-Games than others. Note: Bowser's Mini-Game, Two-on-One, is an exception to the above. ****************************** MARIO - Boo Blast ****************************** Boo Blast unlocks the Super Mario Court in the N64 Version. Just get more than 100 pts in the Challenge level, then select the "Refresh" option in the Transfer Menu. ____________ |Instructions| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Level 1- Score a point by hitting Boo as you continue your rally with Luigi. The points earned double for each consecutive stroke that hits Boo. The game ends if your rally ends. Your goal is 30 points. Mario, please work with Luigi to score some points! Level 2- Same as Level 1, except your goal is 60 points. Level 3- Same as Level 2, plus: The high score is ____ points. Mario, Good luck trying to break the record. Mario, Try to break your own record! ________ |Strategy| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Try to concentrate only on hitting Boo. Don't worry if your shots aren't consecutive, since you don't really need _that_ many points. Luigi can be a major pain, since he often hits the ball so far away from Boo that even a Slice Shot couldn't help you hit Boo. Sometimes he even does Smash Shots, so be careful. ****************************** LUIGI - Shooting Stars ****************************** Shooting Stars unlocks the Castle Court if you get more than 60 pts in the Challenge level. ____________ |Instructions| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Level 1: Hit the star to get one point, or smash the star to get seven points. The points earned double for each consecutive stroke that hits the star. Your goal is 30 points. Luigi, Be sure to aim carefully so you can get lots of points. Level 2: Same as Level 1, except your goal is 60 points. Challenge: Same as Level 2, plus: The high score is ____ points. Luigi, Be sure to aim carefully so you can get lots of points. Luigi, Try to break your own record! ________ |Strategy| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ The best strategy is to just rally *carefully*. But often the machine will shoot out the balls at an extreme angle so only the Slice Shot can help you angle your ball enough to hit the star. When the Star turns grey (after hitting 6 consecutive stars) the "doubling bonus" will stop doubling, so for any more consecutive shots you will get 128 points. Also doing a Strong Smash shot gives you 7 times the amount of points on top of the normal "doubling bonus". This means that hitting a Grey Star with a Strong Smash Shot can net you 896 points! ****************************** PEACH - Perfect Shot ****************************** Perfect Shot unlocks the Peach Court in the N64 Version. Just get more than 21 pts in the Challenge level, then select the "Refresh" option in the Transfer Menu. ____________ |Instructions| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Level 1- Hit a panel to reveal a star and get a point. Your game ends when your rally ends. Your goal is 21 points. Peach, You'll have to play a perfect game to reveal all the stars. Level 2- Same as Level 1. Challenge- Same as Level 2, plus: After you hit all the panels, they flip over again, and you can continue your rally. The high score is ____ points. Peach, Perfect your shot for the perfect score. Peach, Try to break your own record! ________ |Strategy| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Wow... This one's hard. Beware the moving arrow bumpers in Levels 2 and 3, which can cause major pain. Vary between Strong and Normal shots to ensure you hit all the targets. The hardest part is that you need to move constantly, unlike DK's and Yoshi's Mini-Games in which you can stay in one place. ****************************** BABY MARIO - Target Shot ****************************** Target Shot unlocks the Tropical Court if you get more than 60 pts in the Challenge level. ____________ |Instructions| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Level 1: Return the balls into the target area for a point. Get a bonus by hitting the shot shown. Flat Shot: 3 Pts Strong Topspin: 3 Pts Strong Slice: 3 Pts Smash: 5 Pts Lob: 5 Pts Drop Shot: 5 Pts The bonus points depend on the type of shot. If you don't hit the target, your game ends. Your goal is 30 points. Baby Mario, Hit well... Hit the target. Level 2: Same as Level 1, except your goal is 60 points. Challenge: Same as Level 2, plus: The high score is ____ points. Baby Mario, Use your little limbs to get a high score! Baby Mario, Try to break your own record! ________ |Strategy| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ The first level is much easier than the other two as the Drop Shot and Lob areas take up the whole court. And in order to Lob the ball into the back of the court you must hold up, or it will fall short. Also, the in-game instructions forgot to mention that if you do a wrong shot but it lands in the target area you will get 1 Point. ****************************** YOSHI - Fruit Fantasy ****************************** Fruit Fantasy unlocks the Yoshi Court in the N64 Version. Just get more than 100 pts in the Challenge level, then select the "Refresh" option in the Transfer Menu. ____________ |Instructions| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Level 1: Earn points each time you hit a fruit. Banana: 1 Pt Apple: 3 Pts Melon: 5 Pts Your goal is 50 Pts. Yoshi, Get as much tasty fruit as you can. Level 2: Same as Level 1, except your goal is 100 points Challenge: Same as Level 2, plus: The high score is ____ points. Yoshi, May all your endeavors bear fruit--and a high score! Yoshi, Try to break your own record! ________ |Strategy| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ A lot like DK's, actually. Shouldn't be too hard. Play it safe and just keep doing Flat Shots to make sure the ball doesn't fly off to the side. Of course, you'll have to change this strategy in Levels 2 and 3 because of the bumpers. ****************************** DONKEY KONG - Banana Bunch ****************************** Banana Bunch unlocks the Jungle Court if you get more than 60 pts in the Challenge level. ____________ |Instructions| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Level 1: Score points each time you hit a banana. 1 Banana: 1 Pt 3 Bananas: 3 Pts Your game ends if you don't return the ball. Your goal is 30 points. Donkey Kong, Stay focused... Don't go bananas. Level 2: Same as Level 1, except your goal is 60 points. Level 3: Same as Level 2, plus: The high score is ____ Points. Donkey Kong, Go wild if it means you'll get a high score! Donkey Kong, How high can you get? ________ |Strategy| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ The main thing you have to be careful about is the speed of the ball, if you use weak shots (Drop Shot) the ball will bounce twice before you even get to the ball, not to mention it running up to it will cram you up against the wall. And if you use too fast shots (Strong Slice), Donkey will not have enough time to manoeuvre. Using straight Flat Shots is the safest & best strategy, because hitting the ball to the sides in the last two Levels can be extremely dangerous. But make sure you use a Slice shot if it bounces to high, as a Smash Shot is the last thing you want. If you want to hit the higher Banana panel use a Lob Shot. In Level 2 there are arrow bumpers, these bumpers cause the ball to fly up trapping Donkey into doing a jump shot (which is dangerous in this Mini-Game). Also in Challenge the arrow bumpers are in a "DK" formation the "D" bumpers face up and the "K" bumpers face down. The down bumpers force you into running up before the ball does the second bounce, which as we said before is very bad! ****************************** WARIO - Treasure Box ****************************** Treasure Box unlocks the Wario Court in the N64 Version. Just get more than 300 pts in the Challenge level, then select the "Refresh" option in the Transfer Menu. ____________ |Instructions| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Level 1: Get a point for each time you return Waluigi's shot. Earn bonus points for hitting treasure. 1 Coin: 5 Pts 3 Coins: 10 Pts Coin Sack: 50 Pts Chest: 100 Pts The points earned double for each consecutive stroke that hits treasure. If you miss the target area, your game ends--unless you manage to hit treasure. Your goal is 200 points. Wario, it's your favorite pasttime-- collecting treasure! Level 2: Same as Level 1, except your goal is 300 points. Challenge: Same as Level 2, plus: The high score is ____ points. Wario, Grab as much treasure as you can to break the high score! Wario, Try to break your own record! ________ |Strategy| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ If you want points, just focus on the treasures, since hitting the target area only gets you 1 point, I believe. It's an extremely easy mini-game, so you shouldn't have any problems. ****************************** WALUIGI - Medallion Match ****************************** Medallion Match unlocks the Waluigi Court in the N64 Version. Just get more than 300 pts in the Challenge level, then select the "Refresh" option in the Transfer Menu. ____________ |Instructions| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Level 1: Return each of Luigi's shots and try to clear as many "L" medallions as you can with each shot. 1st: 1 Pt 2nd: 5 Pts 3rd: 30 Pts 4th: 70 Pts 5th: 150 Pts 6th: 250 Pts Hit many medallions with one ball to get the most points. Double your points with smash shots. Your game ends if you don't return the ball. Your goal is 100 points. Waluigi, Don't let that goody-two-shoes Luigi win. Level 2: Same as Level 1, except your goal is 300 points. Level 3: Same as Level 2, plus: The high score is ____ points. Waluigi, Do whatever it takes to L-evate your score! Waluigi, Try to break your own record! ________ |Strategy| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ The easiest Mario Mini-Game, Medallion Match is no real challenge. The medallions don't bunch up that close to each other at times, so it's best to do an angled Slice Shot to increase your chances of hitting more consecutive medallions. ****************************** BOWSER - Two-on-One ****************************** Two-on-One unlocks the Bowser Court in the N64 Version. Just beat Level 3, then select the "Refresh" option in the Transfer Menu. ____________ |Instructions| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Level 1: The rules are the same as a regular, 1-set match of six games. But you have to play against two opponents. Win six games before your opponents do to win the match. Since you have to win by two, a seven-point tiebreaker will be played if there is a six-game tie. Bowser, Don't let those sly guys fool you. Level 2: Same as Level 1, except it's a 3-set match of six games, and you must win at least two sets. Level 3: Same as Level 2, except it's a 5-set match of six games, and you must win at least three sets. ________ |Strategy| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ WOOOW!!! This one's easy on Level 1!!! Wario (or whoever's playing the net) will rarely move, and Waluigi isn't too hot on returning shots. WOOOW!!! This one's impossible on Level 3!!! The Back Player will almost always return your shots, that is, if the Front Player doesn't do it first! Of course, it doesn't help that Bowser moves like a rock... We'll have strategies when we beat it. =============================================================================== 8)CODES & SECRETS =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i)Gameshark Codes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's what you've been waiting for! EXCLUSIVE to our FAQ only, custom-hacked Gameshark codes to enhance your playing experience! Now, what do I mean by exclusive? That means they MAY NOT be reproduced ANYWHERE. DO NOT send them to a GS code site or claim them as your own. These will remain ONLY here!! Some of these took me more than an hour to hack (contrary to popular belief, they are "terribly difficult" to find). DON'T even think of taking these as your own! I hacked these for my own purposes, as well as to help those who were requesting them. DO NOT force me to not publish the rest of my codes. READ!!! I am NOT responsible for any saves being lost or any other damage these codes may cost. I have tested them, and if you use them correctly, things should work perfectly. Ready? First, make sure you have a V 3.0 or 3.1 Gameshark, preferably 3.1. Insert the Game Pak into your Gameshark, then insert your Gameshark into your Gameboy. Make sure the "GS Switch" is switched to the ON position (which would be to the left). Turn your GS on, and enter the desired codes. NOW, go to Start Game. BEFORE you choose Codes On, turn the GS switch to the OFF position (to the right), or else Mario Tennis will not load correctly! Each code has more instructions... MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW THEM! __________________________ |Infinite Experience Points| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Inf. Exp. Pts. 96EF4ED1 Leave your GS off until you reach the screen where you distribute Exp Pts. When you're there, push the GS Switch to the ON position (to the left) and leave it on. Now simply level up as you wish :) When you're done, turn the GS Switch back to the OFF position (to the right), and continue with your game. ________________________ |Mini-Game Point Modifier| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Small Value 91XX7CC4 Large Value 91XX7DC4 For 9999 points, replace XX in the Small Value code with 0F and replace XX in the Large Value code with 27. For those not familiar with what I'm talking about: 9999 points 910F7CC4 91277DC4 Leave your GS off until you reach a mini-game screen. Turn your GS ON, then immediately back off, and you'll have whatever points you want. If you wish to beat a mini-game with this, you must still score at least ONE point! If you miss a ball or whatever you'll still fail, even if you have a score of 9999. ______________________________ |Set, Game, and Point Modifiers| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Set 91XXE0C8 Game 91XXE2C8 Point 91XXE4C8 For best use: 2 Sets Won 9102E0C8 OR 3 Sets Won 9103E0C8 5 Games Won 9105E2C8 3 Points Won 9103E4C8 Leave your GS off until you reach a court. Turn your GS ON, then back OFF. Now all you need to do is win one point to win the match! If you're playing a 3-Set match, use the 2 Sets Won code. A 5-Set match, use the 3 Sets Won code. Though it won't appear correctly, the game will still recognize that you've won 3 Points if you've used that code. Just win one point to win the Game, Set, and Match! BE CAREFUL with this code! There are a few complications. The best way to use it is to just let the computer win the entire Set. ______________ |Swing Modifier| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Small Value 91XXB6C2 Large Value 91XXB7C2 For best use: 100 Cnt (for Silver Racker) 9163B6C2 OR 150 Cnt (for Gold Racket) 9196B6C2 9999 Cnt (if you want to go crazy) 910FB6C2 9127B7C2 This code is to be used with the Water Sprite Mini-Game. Leave your GS off until you reach the Water Sprite Swing Mini-Game. Turn your GS ON, then immediately back off, and you'll have whatever points you want. Enjoy your new racket :) _______________ |Racket Modifier| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Racket Modifier Digits 00 Normal Racket 01 Large Racket 02 Small Racket 03 Iron Racket 04 Gold Racket 05 Silver Racket 06 Drive Racket Replace the XX with one of the above digits. Leave your GS off until you reach Mario Tour mode. Turn your GS ON, then immediately back off, and you'll have your new racket! If you want your new racket saved, just save your game! Using this code, you can have up to 6 rackets saved! Remember, there are only enough slots for 6 rackets (out of 7), so you'll still have to leave one racket behind. ______________ |Court Modifier| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ These took me over an hour to hack and test, so again I must repeat myself: DO NOT publish these elsewhere! DO NOT send them to a codes site and do not post them at message boards! If anyone wants codes, just direct them to this FAQ, please! Court Modifier 91XXF4C8 Digits 00 Hard Court 01 Clay Court 02 Grass Court 03 Composition Court 04 Star Court 05 Castle Court 06 Tropics Court 07 Jungle Court 08 Hangar Court 09 Training Court 0A The Machine Court 0B The Wall Court 0C Center Court 0D Grass Court (At Island Open) 0E Peach/Yoshi/DK Mini-Game Court 0F Baby Mario Mini-Game Court 10 Mario/Luigi Mini-Game Court 11 Peach/Yoshi/DK Mini-Game Court 12 Mario/Luigi Mini-Game Court 13 Peach/Yoshi/DK Mini-Game Court 14 Wario/Waluigi/Bowser Mini-Game Court 15 Wario/Waluigi/Bowser Mini-Game Court 16 Peach/Yoshi/DK Mini-Game Court 17 Wario/Waluigi/Bowser Mini-Game Court 18 Training Court 19 and above just freeze the game. Replace the XX with a digit above and enter the code. Leave your GS OFF for now. If you're using the code for Exhibition mode, go to the Court Select screen and turn the GS ON. Choose the court that has the Ball Speed and Bounce you want, but when you start playing, you'll actually be playing on whatever court you chose with the GS code! Turn your GS back OFF once you start playing. The problem with this code is that it's purely cosmetic. Say you input the code to play on a Training Court, but when you get to the Court Select screen you choose the Hard Court. Well, you'll be playing on the Training Court, but it will retain the settings of the Hard Court (meaning it'll have Normal Ball Speed and Strong Bounce)! For any other mode, make sure to have your GS ON before you start playing a match, but turn it OFF as soon as you do start playing! Also, be aware that some of the courts will be a little glitchy. Well, perhaps not glitchy, but it'll appear weird since you were never meant to play real tennis on them. In particular, The Wall Court and the Peach/Yoshi/DK Mini-Game Court will be a little strange to play on. ___________________ |Character Modifiers| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ These also took me more than an hour (two hours, in fact) to hack and test. Again, these MAY NOT be reproduced anywhere! NEW! I'm gotten the codes to modify your doubles partner, the CPU opponent, and the CPU's doubles partner! Coz 15 Allie/THE MACHINE! 16 Allie 17 Luigi 18 Donkey Kong 19 Baby Mario 1A Mario 1B Waluigi 1C Yoshi 1D Bowser 1E Wario 1F Peach From 20 on, the characters just repeat themselves. Replace the XX with a digit above and enter the code. Leave your GS OFF for now. This one's a bit complicated, so let's use an example... Say you want to play as Mario. Enter the code 911A0BCA. Switch the GS switch to the OFF position and start the game. Go to Exhibition Mode, and when you're at the Character Select screen, choose Luigi, then choose any other character. Once you're on the Court Select screen, turn the GS switch to the ON position, and choose whatever court you want. Once you start playing, turn the GS switch back off. Congrats! Now you're playing as Mario! BUT WAIT! Notice something strange? Yep, Mario is now Green! Using this code, you can come up with your own "custom" character! Want a Red, Fast, Donkey Kong? Then enter the code to play as Donkey Kong and when prompted to choose a character, choose Baby Mario! How about a Red, Powerful, Fast, and Accurate Bowser? Just max out Alex's stats, input the code to play as Bowser, and choose Alex! Orange, Slow Waluigi? Enter the code for Waluigi and choose Wario! The possibilities are endless! The "problem" with this code is that it's purely cosmetic. It'll only change the sprites, but not the stats of your character. Another side effect is that the character will keep the color palette of the character you choose on the Character Select screen. The great thing is this code still allows you to complete your Exhibition Mode Chart! The game still thinks you're playing as whichever character you used the code to play as! Here are some of the most interesting codes and combinations: Play as Kevin! 91140BCA -Read the FAQ section for details on this one. Play as THE MACHINE!!! 91150BCA -AMAZING! Using this code, you can play as the Machine! When serving or diving, the sprite will change to Allie's, but otherwise you'll play as the Machine! Play as a Maxed-Out Brian! 91060BCA -Brian's my fave original character, but there's no denying that he's a little lacking in some of his stats (he apparently has horrible Angling). Well, just use my upcoming Max Stats codes to boost up Alex, Harry, Nina, or Kate (dependign on what color you want Brian to be). Input the above code and choose your Max Stats character. You'll now be playing as an almost Invincible Brian! Of course, this applies to any other character. _______________ |Color Modifiers| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Color Modifier (Singles) 91XX0CCA (Doubles Partner) 91XX4CCA (CPU Opponent) 91XX8CCA (CPU Doubles Partner) 91XXCCCA Digits 00 Green 01 Pink 02 Orange 03 Red 04 Blue 05 Gray 06 Gray 07 Gray 08 White/Orange (Academy Colors) From 09 on, the colors are a bit messed up or repeat themselves. You're free to try other digits. If you find some interesting ones, send them in! Leave your GS off until you reach the Character Select Screen (if you're using this in Exhibition Mode). Turn it on, choose your characters, then your court, and start playing! Turn your GS back off when you start playing. This is a pretty cool code, since you can change your character's color w/o affecting his stats. The Gray colors are a bit graphically glitchy, but otherwise they work fine. My favorite colors are the Academy Colors- make sure to try it out! ___________________ |Total Time Modifier| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Minutes 91XXF2C0 Hours 91XXF3C0 Uhh.... I really have no idea why anyone would want these, but just in case someone does, I have them here. Leave your GS off until you reach Mario Tour mode. Turn your GS on, then back off, and you'll have whatever time you want! Remember: Hexadecimal! __________________ |Court Unlock Codes| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Star Court 920100D0 Castle Court 920101D0 Tropical Court 920102D0 Jungle Court 920103D0 Warehouse Court 920104D0 Leave your GS off until you get to the Character Select Screen. Turn it on, then choose whatever characters you want. Continue to the Court Select Screen. While the pictures may not show up, the courts should be unlocked! Just one small problem- the unlocked courts are not saved, so to use them you must have the codes on. ______________________ |Character Unlock Codes| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ I've been a bit too busy to hack these, but I KNOW how to find them. I'll try to have them for you by the next version. ______________________ |Mini-Game Unlock Codes| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ See Character Unlock Codes. _________ |Max Stats| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Singles: Max Spin 916338C9 Max Power 916339C9 Max Control 91633AC9 Max Speed 91633BC9 Doubles Partner: Max Spin 916378C9 Max Power 916379C9 Max Control 91637AC9 Max Speed 91637BC9 Leave your GS off for now. Turn your GS back off and enjoy your invincible character! ______________ |Coming Soon...| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Character Unlock Codes Mini-Game Unlock Codes Again, these are EXCLUSIVE- not to be used in other guides, posted at message boards or sent to GS code sites! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ii)The Water Sprite ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oooh, this one is a doozy to figure out, unless you've seen the *REAL* ending. Firstly, make sure you have the Iron Racket equipped. Next, make your way to the Training Courts and head to the lake on the upper-right of the area. Talk to the kid practicing his swing, and Alex/Nina will show off his/her own swing. The kid will laugh, and your character will become angry. Now it's time for a fun little mini-game! Press the A Button as fast as you can in 10 seconds! If you manage to press the button 100 times or more, a Water Sprite will appear and hand you the Silver Racket. But... If you manage to press the button 150 times or more you will get the Gold Racket. You can only get one of these metal rackets, so that means that the first time you break 100 you have to break 150 as well, which is a very steep learning curve! You may visit the Water Sprite anytime after you've gotten into the Travelling Team (in Singles) and have access to the Iron Racket! You DO NOT have to wait until you've beaten Mario! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- iii)Pick your Partner ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After finishing the game once (beating Mario) with either (Alex or Nina), when you make another file in the Create Character screen you will able to choose between Harry & Kate as your partner. Your room is determined by your partner so if you play as Alex with Kate as your partner you will get the girl's room with the kitty. Astroblue has gotten this to work, but Shdwrlm 3 is having trouble getting it to work. Expect confirmation by the next update. =============================================================================== 9)NINTENDO 64 VERSION and TRANSFER PAK RELATED =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i)N64 Version ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Nintendo 64 version of Mario Tennis is a lot different than the CGB version but it's just as good. It's more smooth (of course) and doesn't have the odd couple mix of a SPORT\RPG it's just SPORT (well, technically, it's a "wacky" sport). The N64 Version has the Exhibition mode like the Game Boy Version but it also has the following modes: Tournament - Play in a Tournament of 8 players (3 rounds to victory). There are three cups, increasing in difficulty (from left to right): The Mushroom Cup, the Flower Cup & the Star Cup. Star Tournament - Play in longer Tournaments, closer to the length of real tennis matches. There are three cups, increasing in difficulty and time (from left to right): The Rainbow Cup, the Moonlight Cup & the Planet Cup. Ring Shot - Play Mini-Games that consist of hitting balls through rings to get points. There are four different types of Ring Shot games they are Game, Time, Balls & Points. Bowser Stage - Like an Exhibition match but you play on a unbalanced court and you can use battle items from Mario Kart 64. Piranha Challenge - Mini-Game in which you try to hit balls that have been spitted out by Piranha Plants past your opponent. The N64 version has more Mario players to play with, instead of 9 it has 16. The extra characters are Toad, Daisy, Birdo, Paratroopa, Boo, Donkey Kong Jr. & Shy Guy (and no, there's no way to play as them on the GB version). But the Game Boy version also has 20 original characters, 4 which you can transfer into the N64 version (Alex, Harry, Nina & Kate). The N64 Version plays exactly like the CGB Version, except the CGB Version uses the Select Button instead of the Z Trigger for cancelling charge-up shots, this has been done for very obvious reasons. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ii)N64 Compatibility ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unlike the N64 version of Mario Golf, you can Transfer the Game Boy characters permanently into two spaces (1 pair of doubles partners per space). However, in order to import any characters, you'll need a Transfer Pak (see Transfer Pak). By importing your character into the N64 version, you can view and hear your character in 3D and play out a couple matches. What's great is that any experience points you earn for your character on the N64 version can be transferred back to the Game Boy Color version! You should try boosting your character to Max stats and sending him/her to the N64 version! You've never played as anyone faster or more powerful! A boosted player is better than Yoshi any day! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- iii)Transfer Pak ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Transfer Pak plugs into the back of a N64 controller. Using this device, the N64 version and the Game Boy Color version of Mario Tennis can communicate with each other and send data back and forth. __________ |Setting Up| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ First, make sure the Game Boy Color cartridge of Mario Tennis is plugged snugly into the Transfer Pak and the Transfer Pak is properly inserted into the N64 controller. Next, with the N64 version of Mario Tennis properly inserted, turn on the N64. Now between the "Continue" & "Special Games" options on the Main Menu is the "Transfer" option, select it to be taken to the Transfer Menu. _____________ |Transfer Menu| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ REFRESH DATA - Use this option to update the level of your character that was transferred from the CGB version to the N64 version. You also use it to: Transfer any Exp Pts you have earned on the N64 Version to the CGB version, To update the N64 data on the CGB version & to unlock courts in the Nintendo 64 version from beating Mini Game Challenges in the CGB version. N64 CHARACTERS - You only have to select this once. It unlocks Yoshi, Wario, Waluigi & Bowser and their Mini-Games in the Game Boy Color version. GAME BOY CHARACTERS - Using this option you can transfer the characters you have built up on the CGB version to the N64 Version permanently. To two spaces (two partners per space). GAME PAK CHECK - Once selected this opens all the other options and lets you refresh which Game Boy Color Game Pak you are transferring with (if you have more then one). =============================================================================== 10)THANKS TO =============================================================================== Japanese Mario Tennis Site (http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n02/dmg/bm8j/index.html) for info on how to get the Drive Racket and confirmation of concepts we were unsure of. ikillkenny ([email protected]) for minimizing the criteria we had for the Warehouse Court.
