3. Vesta's Farm ~ VSF3
---------------------------

Ah, Vesta's farm. You can buy quite a bit here to start off your plantation.

------
SHOP
------

(Crops)

Turnip: 20G
Carrot: 30G
Strawberry: 30G
Tomato: 30G
Sweet Potato: 40G
Potato: 40G
Melon: 50G
Watermelon: 60G

Crops are a one time use, and can only be used in certain seasons.
They're cheap, and can be upgraded easily.

(Trees)

Peach: 1120G
Orange: 820G
Grape: 900G
Banana: 1500G
Apple: 820G

Trees are pricey, though once matured, they last forever, and harvest fruit in
certain seasons. VERY hard to upgrade.

(Misc.)

Fertiliser: 120G

Fertiliser... the upgrading tool. Place enough on one seed and it'll grow a
grade. Beware though. Do NOT place any more fertiliser on a square until the
poopy-coloured cones have dissolved completely.
Not only do you waste tons of gold and fertiliser, you
will be notified by this...groundhog thing,
telling you not to do it again. (Yes, I have had him.)

It takes around 5 fertilisers to upgrade one rank on a CROP.
Ten will get you from B to S.

For trees, it takes (I ain't kidding) THIRTY to upgrade a tree rank.
So 60 fertilisers will get a tree's produce from B to S.

--------------------------------
MANTA'S TIP
Whaddya mean there's no trees?
--------------------------------

I don't know how many people get this wrong.
Most claim they cannot buy trees as 'they aren't there'.
On Vesta's menu, press R for the next set of tree
seeds, then R again for Apple Seed and Fertiliser. >_<

MANTA'S TIP
Crop Laying
-------------

See how Vesta lays out her crops? Like:

X = Crop

Makes it more manageable. ~_^

---

The trees seem a little... pricey, don't they? Well stick around and
I'll tell you everything.

--------------------------------
4. Ba-bum... The Basics ~ BAS4
--------------------------------

Now you have your precious seeds packed up in wrapping, it's time to...

TEST OUT THE NEW TOY ^_^

You have your hoe from the tool shed, right? Press A on the soil to
till it, making it ready for planting.
Remember, water your crops and trees twice a day. Once your tree is fully grown,
it won't need watering.

You have three fields. An unfertile field, a fertile field, and a very fertile
field.

And it isn't just size that matters.

Now remember this:

B = Average Quality
A = Good Quality
S = Superb Quality

Yes, I have done research myself. And it is safe to say there is NO C-rank. =P

The unfertile field is where you should be planting your first crops, believe
it or not.

The unfertile field will only support B-rank crops.
The fertile field will support A and B-rank crops.
The very fertile field will, heck, support all three.

No, if you plant your B-Ranked seeds in the very fertile or fertile field,
it will grow just as fast as it would in the non-fertile field.

Most first gen crops take around 5-10 days.

Here's what ya' need to know on the crop seasons
(When it can survive is in ALL CAPS):

Tomato: SPRING SUMMER FALL winter
Watermelon: SPRING SUMMER fall winter
Melon: spring SUMMER FALL winter
Strawberry: SPRING summer FALL WINTER
Turnip: spring SUMMER FALL WINTER
Potato: SPRING summer fall WINTER
Carrot: spring summer FALL WINTER
Sweet Potato: spring summer FALL winter

I suggest you stock up on Tomatoes and Watermelons,
as they last you through the first two seasons.

Thanks to arche289 for this information...

--------------------
MANTA'S TIP
The Turnip Fanclub
--------------------

One more thing. Turnips, when used correctly, can be extremely versatile:

They are the fastest growing crops in the game,
The fruit gives Light Pickles for just one of them,
So enough Light Pickles would unlock more recipe sections,
That and turnips in general are also great gifts to townspeople,
And are at the bargain price of 20G!

Reccomended you get these in late Spring. Once summer comes, Go Turnips!

---

Now, trees, trees, trees...

Pricey, but worth it. Trees take around 20-30 days or so to mature. Then
they will give fruit in certain seasons. (Only once mature.)

Like before, ALL CAPS is when they will give the goods. No, no
(first gen) tree will give fruit in Spring/Winter.

Peach: SUMMER fall
Orange: SUMMER fall
Grape: summer FALL
Banana: SUMMER fall
Apple: summer FALL

Trees, in their harvest, normally give around 24 fruit. ^_^

5. Hail to the Seed Maker ~ SDM5
----------------------------------

The seed maker can be gotten in two ways:

1. Get it from Daryl.
2. Get it from the ledger for 6000G.

For the second one, it'll pop on the shelves around late Ch1/early Ch2.

But for the first one...

You need to befriend Daryl, the scientist, to get this machine for free.
What you should do is give him fish every day. Good way to waste Colombo. ^_^

This'll start a string of events, if you enter Daryl's around lunchtime.
He is planning on some sort of hair-brained scheme... Stay please.

Do this enough times and you will get the Seed Maker cutscene...

Daryl should be mumbling about how Town stole his inventions.
Hear him out, and after much talking, he will give you the Seed Maker.

HOW TO USE
-----------

The Seed Maker is the machine thingamajig on the side of the Tool Shed.

The first thing you will notice is 16 orange squares when you use it.
Place your FRUIT here. (And veg), basically, you can't put in seeds.

Wait a few days, and two seeds will take it's place. ;D

MANTA'S GET RICH QUIK SCHEME!
The Infamous Banana Cheat
-------------------------------

Ingredients/Requirements
------------------------

Seed Maker
Matured Banana Tree (or any other tree, but Banana functions best)
It must be Summer.
Van's shop must be open.

------------------------

The Seed Maker is the very thing that gave
rise to the banana "cheat".

What you do is mature a banana tree (for best results), and wait until summer.
The tree will give around 24 fruits, as usual.

Now, place all the fruits in the Seed Maker, wait a few days, and 48 seeds
will take it's place.

Next sell all these to Van.

As one banana seed costs 1500G and you sell for half,

750x48= Up to 36000G.

Cool, 'eh?

-------------------------------------
MANTA'S GET RICH QUIK SCHEME!
S-Ranked Army: Non-Tartanic Version
-------------------------------------

Ingredients/Requirements
------------------------

Seed Maker
An expensive/quick growing crop (preferrably both)
Ten fertilisers

------------------------

What we do here, is first upgrade your chosen crop to S-Rank with
your fertilisers. Yes, the way I said so.

Place the S-Ranked Crop in the Seed Maker. That's two seeds. Plant them.
Put them in the Seed Maker, you now have four seeds.

Keep going and you'll literally have an army.
Sell these, or give as presents. (Galen/Marlin like only S-Rank stuffs)

Or, basically whatever you'd do with a fruit. 0_o

---

These cheats are also good for making rows and rows of seeds. ^_^

------------------------------
6. T-T-T-T-TARTAN???? ~ TRT6
------------------------------

Tartan, the two-headed talking plant, lives in Takakura's house.
Yes. This is the thing you need to use to hybrid.

HOW TO GET TARTAN
-----------------

For this strange looking plant, enter Takakura's house past Chapter 2.
There is a small chance you may find Tartan.

After a not-so-brief cutscene, Tartan moves into the house.

Don't think you can hybrid straightaway, mind...

He's pretty lonely all couped up in Tak's house, so talk to him. ~_^

You need to talk to him pretty much a lot.
He sometimes talks about certain hybrid combos, Ruby, what Tak
gets upto on Saturday nights... 0_o

After a LOT of talking, you can select the 'Hybrid' option.

A full hybrid list is at the bottom of the FAQ.

HYBRIDIFIED
-----------

Heh, cool title, 'eh?

For hybrid, you must feed Tartan two plants.

Seed + Seed = Seed
Fruit + Fruit = Fruit
Seed + Fruit = Seed (I think)

Unfortunately, there are no hybrids for tree + crop. U_U
There is no 100% chance a correct formula will result in hybrids either.
For best chances, do it on a lucky day on the horoscope ^_^

You can hybrid hybrid plants too. This makes THIRD GEN HYBRIDS.

They have no name, so you can name them yourself.
There's only four spaces though. >_< Ah well.

Besides Plants + Plants, Tartan can hybrid Plants + Certain Flowers.

Ever noticed why some flowers have more than just the description?

That is because of this:

Plant + Happy Lamp = Plant that can grow in all seasons.
Plant + Gemsoil = Plant that can grow in any field.
Plant + Upseed = Plant that is automatically S-ranked.

Happy Lamp: Pretty common. Summer. On the hill and by the swamp.
Gemsoil: Quite rare. Fall. By the waterfall, at the dig site.
Upseed: Extremely rare. Winter. I have only found one place where upseeds grow,
and that's by Cody's trailer, by the wall.

According to arche289, Upseeds sometimes grow on the side of the pathway
going to the Dig Site. I have yet to confirm this.

The flowers only work with crops. Not trees, I'm afraid.

Though a glitch has been submitted to make upseeds work on trees...

Thanks to Jaredn11.

----------------
<_< GLITCHY...
UPSEEDED TREES
----------------

Easy Tree Upgrade to S Rank
Note: You must have Tartan for this glitch to work.
Normally, you arean't supposed to be able to mix crops or flowers with
trees to get a different result, but in this case you can.
Step 1: Take any crop in seed form and upgrade it to S rank with the UP-Seed.
(You have to have Tartan to make hybrids)
Step 2: Take desired B-Rank tree you wish to make S-Rank and place it in the
first slot of Tartan.
Step 3: Take the S-Rank crop and place it in the second slot.
Step 4: MAKE SURE THAT THE B-RANK TREE IS IN THE FIRST SLOT AND S-RANK CROP
IS IN THE SECOND IN ORDER FOR THE GLITCH TO WORK
Step 5: Use Tartan and there you go, an S-Rank tree without wasting thousands on
fertilizer.

Once again, thanks to Arche289, we have another get rich quik scheme!

Thanks to Lady Morgana for this info.

It seems that if you hybrid crop seeds with another, you always get a B-Rank. Cool.
