Hello and welcome to the CARDINAL SYN strategy guide. This guide will show you the moves and techniques on fighting, killing, and defending. One thing I will say about this game, it's a VERY BLOODY game when you add the fatalities. This game also has great playability with a fantastic 3D style of views. This man, now named the wonderer, carried with him a book that contained great and boundless secrets. After the wanderers arrived, civilizations flurished. And the clans raised flags bearing his symbol of unity. Peace reigned for many years through out the land. The wanderer, believing that his peaceful teachings were concluded, gathered the clan together, transformed his book, and disappeared. Clan member shortly expired as quickly as their word and return to their brutal practices. Pandimonium GENERAL INFO YOU SHOULD KNOW ============================ I must point out right away that if your not used to 3D style fighting games like TEKKEN, SOUL-EDGE, STREET FIGHTER EX, or other such games, then this game can become very difficult to play. When I first played this game, I didn't feel comfortable right away because their are some methods in this game which make this game a little bit harder to play. Mostly because the ability to jump and/or block is not the same as some fighting games out there. I will say one thing for this game, it is truely a real 3D environment. In this game you can move in complete 3D. As in, you can walk into the background, foreground, and even walk around your opponent WITHOUT having to side step. In other 3D style fighting games, you would have to do some type of side-step or flip menthod in order to get behind or beside your opponent. This game offers a TON of useful possibilities that you would never think would exist in a fighting game. First, lets get down to the details on how to use the controls and on how to use certain abilities during the game. One thing to note, all the moves will be explained later in this guide. THE MOVES ========= Just like other fighting games, you have your basic attacks. Although not like STREET FIGHTER EX or TEKKEN, this game plays a little more like SOUL-EDGE. For example, you have your HORIZONTAL, VERTICAL, and LOW attacks. The plus is added when you use the L and R buttons with your normal attacks or controller for very interesting attacks and manuvers. Later on in this guide, I'll tell you what characters can do what with certain buttons so you will know what to look for. BLOCKING ======== Unlike other fighting games, you have to hold a button down to block certain moves. In other games, you simply press the controller away form the opponent. It's not that simple in this game. Another thing is that you can block high and low. Try to watch yourself so you don't trip from a combo, a lot of the players do like to trip, so watch yourself. COUNTER ATTACKS =============== Now this is something that I hardly ever see in a fighting game. The ability to actually retaliate when you are being attacked. This means that anyone can have an advantage, regardless if they are a slow, fast, big, or small player. Even a bulky character has a good chance at winning, no matter what. Of course the trick here is timing and knowing how to do it right. In fact, it's even possible to actually counter attack every time your opponent tries to go in for a combo. All characters can counter attack. STUN THE OPPONENT ================= Very similar to the counter attack, only this allows you an open shot after the opponent has taken his/her time to attack you. All characters can stun an opponent. ATTACKING A DOWNED OPPONENT =========================== This is a very classic attack that's used in such games as SOUL-EDGE and in TEKKEN. This type of attack allows you or the opponent to attack you while you're down on the ground. This manuver can be very deadly to you if you are not careful and if you stay down too long, although very benefitial to you if you can time the move just right. COMBOS ====== Just like all 3D fighting games, all the characters have a combo system that is unique to each character you play as. JUGGLES ======= Yikes, definitely something you DO NOT want to get caught in. Juggles allow a player to knock the opponent into the air, then be able to do more attacks while the opponent is still in the air. If you can figure out the timing of a juggle, you can finish opponents off in no time at all. When you read this guide, I will include JUGGLE STARTERS for everyone. How it works is, do the JUGGLE STARTER, then wait for the right as the opponent is coming down, then hit them with everything you got. FATALITIES ========== Oh yes, this game also allows you to finish off opponents with a type of power move that will kill the opponent. All fatalities are done as part of a combo and are not always easy to pull off all the time. Plus, you can only kill your opponent during your 2nd or 3rd win against an opponent. If you were to do this before you have won a round, although you wouldn't kill the opponent, it does, however, deliver a devestating blow to the opponent. This move alone will do more than half a life bars worth of damage. RUNNING ======= This is another new feature in this game. This game allows you to be able to run in any direction. I know this sounds rather unusual for a fighting game, but this feature can be quite useful if you know how. HAZARDS ======= One thing you do not want to get caught in is the hazards that are on each stage you fight on. Hazards range from spiked walls to electric shock pillars. Watch yourself as you are fighting. ITEMS AND POWERUPS ================== On a lot of the stages, you will find treasure chests that hide a secret surprise. Be careful, the opponent can use these items to, try to get them before your opponent does, or you could be dead. These items include the following... BLUE BOTTLE = This allows you to use your magic attack once POWER SWORD = This allows you to do more damage for a short period of time YELLOW BOTTLE = This allows you to heal your health if it gets low BOMBS = Watch out, some of the items you get are bad for you PROJECTILES AND MAGIC ===================== This is a major thing to watch out for when you're fighting against any opponent in this game. All characters have some type of projectile or magic attack. One thing to note, projectiles can be done anytime, magic attacks can only be down once, unless you find powerups. Although projectiles are not very powerful, magic attacks can do some serious damage, watch yourself as you're fighting. THE SHIELD BAR ============== Some of you may be wondering what that circle shaped symbol is at the bottom of the screen during gameplay. This is what's called the SHIELD monitor. This symbol represents how long your shield will last until you lose it. In other words, you can block most hits for so long before you lose the shield and take damage from regular hits, regardless if your blocking or not. So, when you're fighting, watch your shield indicator and try not to block so much, or you will die very quickly. SOME OTHER THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW WHILE PLAYING THIS GAME ========================================================= 1.) Watch when the opponent starts to try to get behind you, they may be setting up for a combo. Remember, you can't block if your back is turn to them. 2.) If you fall, try to get back up as soon as possible. The opponent likes to attack you while you are down sometimes. 3.)If you're caught in a combo from the opponent, try to counter attack. More than likely, you will stop right in the middle of a combo and do damage to the opponent. 4.) Try to stay close to your opponent, if you don't, you may end up taking serious damage from a magic or projectile attack. Sure combos are hard to block, but projectiles are even harder if your not careful. CHEATS ====== This section has a lot of cheats for this game. Just so you know, if you do not wish to lose the value of this game, then skip this part. I will not be held resposible for people who lose the value of this game from the cheats on this page. All cheats are to be entered at the CARDINAL SYN screen with the PRESS START flashing on screen. You will know the cheats worked if you hear a clanging sound. The cheats are as follows... He/she was originally a prisoner of Syn, until one day Syn decided to test a twisted theory about life on a man and woman to create a half man-woman incantation. She now fights to get revenge and hoping to find the secrets to turn themselves back to normal and to hope that this practice never gets into the wrong hands again. NOTES ABOUT BIMORPHIA ===================== This person, although a little slow, is powerful and has some great combos to back up this character. Not only that, this person has 2 projectiles that will keep the opponent at bay long enough for you to finish what you need to do. This person plays a lot like Sagat from STREET FIGHTER. Just think of this person as Sagat and you might be able to handle this character. ENDING ====== After defeating Kron, Bimorphia finally gets her revenge by picking Syn up and opening her up like a cracked egg. After that, she goes to get the swords, but instead summon a book. She then takes the book and starts to study the books secrets and then goes to teach the world of the books secrets just like the wonderer did. He lives to steal, rob, and take what is not his. He likes to get objects that will get him the best profit from the best dealer. When he hears that the Book Of Knowledge is still in existance, he goes in persuit of this book and hopes to sell it to the highest bidder at the trade markets. NOTES ABOUT FINKSTER ==================== Although not very strong, he is very agile and likes to do a lot of hits at one time. This guy is almost the king of combos. Use his speed to your advantage as much as possible. Plus, his fatality is one of the bloodiest by far in the game. Once you see it, you will know what I mean. ENDING ====== After beating Kron, Finkster returns to the altar where the swords lay and summons the book. The book is now his for the taking. He heads back to his hiding place in the sewers and then places the Book Of Knowledge in a library style place that could be lost for ever, if not attended to properly. Always trying to keep her happy and making her laugh was his specialty. One day, his curiousity got the best of him and wondered what Syn was doing in the Altar. As he approaches the Altar, he sees Syn killing off one of the soldiers that belongs to a particular kingdom. As he watches on, Syn notices his appearance. When he is caught, Hecklar runs as fast as he could to a nearby kingdom and tries to warn them of Syn's real intentions. Because he was a jester, people didn't really take him seriously and was kicked, smacked, or thrown from every place he been. After so long, he had taken enough punishment and decided to take matters into his own hands. Since no one would believe him, maybe by becoming a hero would change peoples minds about him. NOTES ABOUT HECKLAR =================== This character is a little stronger than Finkster, but not by much. He's quick with his weapon, but doesn't move as much as he would like to. His combos are high hitting and can string as much as 7 hits, 12 hits with juggle. Not really a bad character to start with for beginners, but there are better characters in this game than just him. ENDING ====== After beating Kron, Hecklar dances to his hearts content and then decapitates Syn. As he dances, he then is over joyed with his freedom from being a jester for so long. He then suddenly realizes his potential as a fighting jester. Their lives need a place that still flows with life of trees, grass, and water. Fairies rarely ever need to fight, but because the land is being robbed by a deadly mage, they have to take action. Juni decides to help and the village elder summons special daggers for Juni to use in her quest to bring back the peace this land once had. NOTES ABOUT JUNI ================ This character plays just like Finkster in every way, including the combos and fatalities. She's not that much different at all as far as gameplay goes. If you are good with Finkster, then she will be a great player for you as well. Keep in mind one thing, she may have a lot of high hitting combos, but she is just as weak as Finkster. One more thing to note, she doesn't run when using the RUN button, she flies, but it's still just the same thing, only different. ENDING ====== After beating Kron, she returns to the village elder with the 3 swords. The village elder orders the swords to be put in a far off place where they can do no more damage to the land. The elder opens a portal and the 3 fairies drop the swords into the portal, never to be seen again. After some time, Juni notices a major change in the land. One of the local people claimed he could beat Kahn and challenged him to a fight to the death. Kahn won with little effort on his part. He now seeks Syn to prove that he is a worthy fighter and to prove that only the strongest will survive. NOTES ABOUT KAHN ================ Kahn is surprisingly an very good character. Even though he has the size trouble, his fighting skills and speed more than make up for that. This is a good character to start out as if you plan to play this game. He even has some good reach, which will give you the advantage you need. ENDING ====== After Kahn beats Kron, he then keeps an item from each fighter, and has the enscripted swords forged so that they are engraved with his face. He is the strongest fighter and lives for the death of other fighters. Behold the new king of fighters. Syn knew about this power, and used it to her advantage and transformed herself into a powerful dragon. No one really knew about her real intentions right away, but when you defeat her human form, she will show you the true power that lies in the enscripted swords. NOTES ABOUT KRON ================ What's to know, he's the last boss in the game. That makes him BIG, STRONG, and has the reach advantage. Don't take this character lightly, this character is just fast enough to show you what he has. And if you are a good player, you can take out anyone with just a few good hits. And that flying ability will make you really cheap. One thing to note, he has very little combos, so remember that. He's been considered a good leader among his people so they chose Mckrieg as the guardian of the caves. The main thing on his mind is that he doesn't want to get involved with any type of fighting, but they will defend themselves if they need to. Mckrieg is the man to do it. NOTES ABOUT MCKRIEG =================== Although not very bulky, he's not very quick. He does stand out a lot, so watch your timing and attacks. He has some good reach, but his reaction time is a little on the slow side. Play this character conservatively, but do use his projectile to your advantage. ENDING ====== After realizing that Moloch still lived, the cave dwellers decided to make one final attack on the creatures, and make certain, once and for all, that this mutation never happens again. After killing off every reptilian creature, Mckrieg and some men returns to the tree one final time, making sure that the same thing doesn't happen again. Time passed by and the village was happy, until one night, a strange retilian figure started making killing sprees on the village. That's when the villagers knew, the baby didn't die after all. NOTES ABOUT MOLOCH ================== This character is not too bad, but don't think that he is the best to play. He will sometimes be left open for a shot if you start a combo and miss. He's still a little on the bulky side, but his strength is a major helper in this case. But one thing is for sure, he's got the fastest projectile in the game, so use that to your every advantage. ENDING ====== Moloch plans a final assault on the village that betrayed him, with an army of his own kind. The battle gets bloody, but they are victorious, and can now get revenge on the ones that refused him life. Now they will know what life is like hanging on a tree. Watch yourself when fighting this guy, but do be careful when playing him as well. ENDING ====== After beating Kron, Mongoro returns to the sanctuary of his dark home, with his collection of items taken from his victoms. After rumaging through his stuff, he notices a sword with enscriptions on it and wonders what they could be. Although not very smart, he keeps the sword, hoping that they might hold the key to salvation for the giant beings. He has desent speed, agility, and strength. He's your basic all-around character that anyone could play. Although some of his combos are a little hard to know and learn as well as his fatalities. Her only goal is to free her god from the stones so that he may roam the earth once more. NOTES ABOUT NEPHRA ================== Nephra is not a bad character, but lacks a little on speed. Her combos are a little on the slow side and lags just slightly after certain moves are done. Although, don't take her lightly, she can be a formidable opponent as well as player, if you're real careful. ENDING ====== After winning countless battles, she brings with her the enscripted swords and places them in the proper holes. Once all the swords are in place, the temple begins to shake. The stone idol starts to come to life, but then an explosion appears which is confusing to Nephra. Suddenly, strange tenticles come out of the statue. Nephra tries to take action by getting one of the swords, but to no avail. She is nabbed by the tenticles and the egyption temple begins to close tight, she will remain as the tenticles pet for the rest of her life. Although not very strong, he is rather agile for a dead guy. One more thing, this guy has little or no combo style at all. The highest hitting is like 4 hits. ENDING ====== After defeating Kron, he takes the swords with him to a strange swamp area that is covered in dead souls. He thrusts the swords into the swamp and an army of undead start to rise out of the water to obey the command of Plague, ruler of the wretched and the undead. During one of his sacrefices, they capture a man in a red robe. When Redeptor tries to kill him, his sword stops mid way from some unknown force. When the man rises, it's the wonderer. The wonderer throws aside all the guards, then knocks away Redeptor. In doing so, this old man's goal was to destroy the symbol that made this clan up. When it's destroyed, he disappears once more. Lots of moves, more than average damage, and although a bit bulky, he's got some good speed. This is the best all-round character to play as when you play this game. He's the real character to be. ENDING ====== After destroying Kron, Vanguard returns home with the enscripted swords. When he presents them to the king, he says that the rewards go to the people, not to the kingdom. He then realizes that being a Knight is being trusted throughout the land. He heads to the village to present the swords and show that Vanguard will protect his people from harm and chaos. Be careful when playing him, his combos are a little hard to get off if you don't know what you're doing. ENDING ====== After he defeats Kron, he takes Syn's body back to his camp site and burns the remaining life from Syn. When he tries to do this, Syn comes to life once more and the skeletal remains tries to finish off Vodu. He notices the skeletal form is alive and then reaches for the enscripted sword and throws it at the living skeleton. The skeleton dies in a firey flash of light and Syn is no longer living. The world is now free of her chaos. What you have to do is play the game through with a character on normal difficulty and beat the game with that character. You would have to do this for each normal character in the game. 2.) IF YOU WERE TO RATE THIS GAME, WHAT WOULD YOU RATE IT? ========================================================== Okay, I'll list for you a rating system that I use on a scale of 1-5, 5 being the best. I'll also mention why I gave it that rating... GRAPHICS = 4 SOUND = 5 CONTROL = 3 UNIQUENESS = 4 OVERALL = 4 DIFFICULTY = Adjustable GRAPHICS = Fantastic, the cinematics, animation, characters, stages, all just perfect for a fighting game. The intro was totally cool and the cinematics for each character gave this game some life. I almost felt as though it was telling a story as well as being a game. If you ever wanted to see some great mideval style characters and play-style, this is the game to get. Plus, the characters during gameplay almost looked real enough to be real fighters, unlike Tekken or Street Fighter EX where it still looked like polygon style characters. They did a great job on smoothing out the polygons for the stages and characters, very realistic. SOUND = Excellent, totally flawless, every sound was just perfect for this game. The cinematic sequences mixed with the sounds were perfect. The sounds used during the game were great, especially if you did the fatality combo. All the special moves sounded great and each character had their own voices. Unlike a lot of other games, this game has a lot of voices that you wouldn't expect from a fighting game. Plus, the music for the cinematics and stages were perfect, very mideval style and worked well with the game. CONTROL = Okay, this is where they cound have done some work on when they made this game. Not to sound critical, but if people have not played such games as TEKKEN, STREET FIGHTER EX, or other such games, they are totally going to be confused by the moves that they put in this game. I mean, I can't remember a time when you had a JUMP button on the other fighting games. What's worse, this jump button is the R1 button, that makes it a little difficult for people who are so used to jumping using the control pad. Not only that, there's no ability to throw your opponent. The button mentioned is not exactly a throw, it's more of a push or shove and mostly used defensively, not offensively. And although there is a way to throw your opponent, it's more used as a counter attack, again used defensively, not offensively. Next time they try to make a fighting game, lets plan the buttons out a little bit better, and lets incorperate the THROW ability next time, all the other games do. UNIQUENESS = Very unique in every way. First off, it's a mideval style, hardly any fighting games are like that, with the exception of Weapon Lord. Very well done in animation and in the style of gameplay that they did. The story during the intro and the cinematics make this game more realistic to the player and to the game. The controls could have been a little more thought out, but what were you expecting from this game. The sounds and music was great, practically fit the situation of the game and during the stages. All in all, this game is very good and very well done. If you want a fighting game that has blood, combos, 3D style gameplay, and a very interesting style of game features, then look no further. Blood, fatalities, combos, special moves, magic attacks, secret characters, 18 playable fighters to choose from, and a some great game features make this game a must have for all you fighter fans out there. This game offers enough blood and guts to satisfy even the MK players out there. The combos system is great and a lot better than Tekken and Soul Edge.
