Introduction [INT] =============================================================================== Welcome to first Retro FAQ. This FAQ should cover both Classic and normal version of Sub. Many including myself still play old skool games especially UMK as its one of the best MK games. Sure there are new 3D versions but to be honest nothing bets the old 2D style. Any way if you have anything to add drop me an email found in Legal Disclaimer section. Cheers. =============================================================================== 2. Version History [VHS] =============================================================================== Version 1.0 2:01 AM January 19th, 2006 Finished the FAQ. Every move that I know is here, if you have something to add than drop me an email. =============================================================================== 3. The Basics [BSC] =============================================================================== The first thing you need to know is that you cant play as Classic Sub-Zero unless you use one of the two methods. The short method: Just before the main menu screen shows up, the with UMK logo or the one before it, enter the following cheat code: C, R, A, Z, Y, C, Y, R, A, X. If done correctly you will hear some one leafing. Press up when your in the main menu and you will be taken to a secret options where you have the ability to unlock Classic Sub-Zero along with other characters and stuff. The long method: Start a normal game against the computer and lose. Let the counter reach zero and it will be game over. You will immediately be taken to an Enter an Ultimate Kombat Kode screen. Here press X seven times, Y six times, A five times, B two times. You should get a massage From this point on Classic Sub-Zero is at your control. Controls Here are all default commands and there explanations: Command Short-Cut Button Low Punch LP A High Punch HP X Low Kick LK C High Kick HK Z Block BLK Y Run R B Up U Up Down D Down Left L Left Right R Right + Press two buttons at once. =============================================================================== 4. Sub-Zero Moves [SZR] =============================================================================== The ninja returns unmasked. He was betrayed by his own clan, the Lin Kuei, he broke sacred codes of honor by leaving his clan and is marked for death. But unlike the ninja of old, his pursuers comes as machines. He must not only defend himself against the Outworld menace, but he must also elude his soulless assassins. Sub-Zero has useful attacks and special moves, lets go trough them: Freeze D, F, LP Ice Clone D, B, LP Ice Shower D, F, HP Near Ice Shower D, F, B, HP Slide B+LP+BK+LK Here are explanations and strategies on each move: Freeze D, F, LP This move is subs special move, it freezes an opponent for a short time allowing you to perform a combo or any damaging move. This move is best used when your near your opponent because he can get confused but dont try it all the time because your strategy will be discovered. Another good time to use this attack is when your far away from your opponent and he is ether running or jumping at you, but make sure your one step behind from his landing point. You can trick your opponent by standing at a jump distains from him and wait, as soon as he jumps run straight, this should leave you behind him and gives you a perfect opportunity to use the freeze move as soon as he lands. Make sure to time it right or he will ether crouch it or jump on you and you wont be able to don anything but to take damage because your still in freeze move position. finally you can also use this move as soon as the other player throws something on you, like spear. Note that you may also take damage but its worth it because you will gave him more damage than his move, dont try it when your low on health though. Ice Clone D, B, LP Ice clone can be very useful when used right. The first right timing to use it is when some one is jumping on you, you can play dumb and stay in one place until your opponent jumps on you and that when Ice clone comes in. Another good way to use it is when some one running toward you, wait for him to reach 3-4 steps far from you and do it. Useful because he has to react very fast. Ice Shower D, F, HP Ice shower is a new move to Sub-Zero that first appeared in MK 3. An way this move is hard to use but can be useful some times. A good time to use when your opponent is far or is landing from a back jump. Never use it when your close or in range of a jump attack as most likely your opponent will dodge your move and combo you. Some times you can also use it when some one throws something on you but its hard to hit in that situation and I dont recommend it. Near Ice Shower D, F, B, HP Same as the normal Ice shower but is useful when some one is running at you. Your opponent can easily be tricked into thinking your using the normal one and he will immediately be running toward you only to be frozen. Use it wisely. Slide B+LP+BK+LK Slide attack doesnt do much damage but it can be used as a surprised attack. The best time to use it is when your opponent is running. It can also be used to dodge and attack when some one throws something at you like spear. Dont use it a lot because most likely your opponent will block most of your attempts and combo you. Combos Here are all the combos that I know: 5 Hit Combo HP, HP, LP, LK, HK, B+HK 3 Hit Kick Combo HK, HK, B+HK Jump Combo Jump punch, HP, HP, HK Jump Combo 2 Jump Kick, B+LK Jump Combo 3 Jump punch, HP, HP, LP, B+HK Jump Combo 4 Jump punch, HP, HP, LP, LK, HK, B+HK Jump Slide Combo Jump kicking your opponent, slide Here are some strategies on using each combo: The first two combos are the most damageable and are very useful. A good time to perform these combos is to run straight at your opponent and combo him. Remember to time the combo right and finish it even if your opponent is blocking it because if you stop he will have the perfect chance to combo you! You can also use an combo after you freeze you opponent. Another good way to use it is after the run trick, you wait for him to jump one you, as soon as he do run but instead of freezing him run back at him and combo him as soon as he lands. You can also combo him when he attempts to jump backwards. Fatalities Fatalities are the hart of MK. When you defeat your opponent for two rounds you will be brought to the Finish Him scene. Your opponent will stay dizzy for a short time, this is the time to do your finishing move. in order to do your fatality you need to stay at certain position, etch one has it own stains. Here are the stains and there explanations: Close Stand close to your opponent, dont leave any space in between. Sweep About 4-6 steps away from your opponent. Far Stand far away from your opponent. Mercy To perform it you will need lose one round. at the finish him scene hold R, D, D, let go of R. This will Annabel your opponent to fight again with one hit death health. Fatality BLK, BLK, R, BLK, R (Close) Grabs his opponent and break him. Fatality 2 B, B, D, B, R (Sweep) Blows ice on opponent that will make him fall and break. Animality Hold BLK, F, U, U (Close) Sub-Zero turns into a bear and eat his opponent (Required mercy). Friendship LK, R, R, U (Far) Turns into a snowman. Babality D, B, B, HK Turns your opponent into a baby! Stage Fatality B, D, F, F, HK Drop the opponent to his dome. *To perform Friendships and babalitys you should not block during the wining round. Ending In vicious battle, Sub-Zero faces Cyrax and Sektor: but not alone. He finds his third Lin Kuei Assassin - the elusive Smoke. Before automation Smoke and Sub-Zero were allies. Sub-Zero helps Smoke recall his past and gains him as an ally once again. Sub-Zero defeats his cyborg assassins with the help of Smoke and finds it takes all his own inner strengths to defeat Kahn and his Outworld Minions. The former ninja once again disappears into the shadows. His legacy known only by a select few. =============================================================================== 5. Classic Sub-Zero Moves [CZR] =============================================================================== Thought to have been vanquished in the Shaolin Tournament, Sub-Zero mysteriously returns. It's believed this secretive member of the Lin Kuei, a legendary clan of Chinese "ninjas", has returned to again attempt an assassination of Shang Tsung. To do so, he must fight his way through Shao Kahn's tournament. The Classic MK Sub-Zero returns with a little power up. Basically his the same as you last seen him with new finishing moves and combos. Here are all the moves: Freeze D, F, LP Ground Freeze D, B, LK Slide B+LP+BK+LK These moves strategies are the same as the normal Sub-Zero, except the Ground freeze. Use this move when some on is jumping on you. Step back and throw the ice, this will leave your opponent unstable for a short time giving you good hits. In rare cases it can also be useful when your near you opponent but thats to risky and can put you dangerous situation because your opponent can combo you before your ice hit the ground. Combos 5 Hit Combo HP, HP, LK, B+HK, F+LK Jump Combo Jump Punch HP, HP, LK, B+HK, F+LK Jump Combo 2 Jump Kick, B+LK Fatalities Fatality D, D, D, F, HP (Close) Grabs his opponent head, screen goes black, and your opponent screams. Stage Fatality F, D, F, F, HP Drop the opponent to his dome. *Classic Sub-Zero only has two fatalities Ending Having been killed in the first tournament, Sub-Zero somehow seems to have emerged to win the third tournament. However, upon removing his mask both the Outworld and the Earth-born warriors... Are shocked to discover the true identity of this warrior. A warrior who has long been missing from a previous Mortal Kombat, and one who will return in the fourth tournament. =============================================================================== 6.
