------------------Super Mario 64 DS--------------------------------------------------

Hi, I'm Justin and I'll be your guide today. It's Tuesday, January 18th and it's
about 10:53 PM [ET]. This is my guide to collecting the Power Stars in Super Mario
64 DS.

(HINT:There is also an extra Power Star in each level for collecting 100 coins.)

BOB-OMB BATTLEFIELD------------------------------------------------------------------

Star One — Big Bob-Omb on the Summit
The first star is being held by the Big Bomb-Omb at the tip top of the mountain (you
can see it on your map). You need to make your way around the level and up the
mountain to reach the Big Bomb-Omb. Once you get there, you need to defeat the Big
Bob-Omb, forcing him to cough up the precious star.Start by running up the path
ahead and crossing the first bridge. Follow the path as it turns left and hug the
left wall to avoid the chain chomp to the right. Cross over the teetering bridge
ahead and run towards the signs with red arrows that lead you through gap in the
fencing ahead. Though the arrows point you right, stay left instead and run up the
steep hillside. At the top of the steep hill is a path that circles around the
mountain. Turn right up the path to start making your way towards the top and avoid
the rolling balls that come flying towards you (you can jump over them or simply
step around them if there's enough room). As you near the top of the mountain you'll
find a heart icon along the path. Step into it to refill your health before you jump
up to the top platform. It only takes three hits to take down the Big Bomb-Omb,
though you'll have to react quickly to get him. When you get close to the Big Bob-
Omb he'll toss out smaller bob-ombs which you can use against him. Use Yoshi's
tongue attack to grab 'em in your mouth and then toss 'em back at the Big Bob-Omb to
hit him once. Alternatively, you can wait for the small bob-ombs to get ready to
explode—as they chase after you, lure them towards the Big Bob-Omb and if they
explode near him they'll hit him instead. If you get too close to Big Bob-Omb he'll
grab you and throw you, possibly off the edge of the mountain. The only other attack
you have to watch out for is his bouncing that happens after you hit him. If he
bounces on top of Yoshi you'll take damage, but it's pretty easy to avoid. Just hit
Big Bob-Omb three times with his little goons to earn the first star.

Star Two — Footrace with Koopa the Quick
This star is pretty simple to earn—you've just got to beat Koopa the Quick in a race
to the top of the mountain (the same mountain where Big Bob-Omb was). However, in
order to race him you must be Mario. If you're not playing as Mario you can still
challenge him without having to leave the level and switch characters. Look on your
map and you'll see the location of an enemy that has a Mario cap item. Go take the
item from the enemy and return to Koopa the Quick to challenge him to a race. The
fastest way up the mountain is the same way detailed above. Follow the path up the
first bridge, left along the fencing to avoid the chain chomp, across the teetering
bridge, and right through the gap in the fencing. Once through the fencing, turn
left and run up the steep hill to reach the center of the mountain walkway. Dodge
the rolling balls while jumping over the gaps in the path (to make it over the last
gap, use a running long jump) to reach the top. When you get to the top, simple
touch the flag and wait for Koopa the Quick to catch up and give you your prize.

Star Three — 5 Silver Stars!
There are five silver coins scattered around the battlefield and you need to collect
all five before the power star will appear. The silver stars are pretty easy to get,
and their locations are conveniently marked on your map! To get the closest one,
simply climb up the tree that's under the star and jump straight up from the top.
The second closest star is stuck on the tail of the chain chomp up above. Turn one
of the goombas into a shell and fire it at the chain chomp to temporarily stun it—
when it's stopped moving, quickly run behind the enemy to grab the second star. The
third star is earned by defeating the three goomba enemies in the field across the
teetering bridge, and the fourth is found just ahead in a patch of bushes. The fifth
one is held by another couple of goombas that are up along the mountain path (lower
level). Defeat them to get the final star and return to the beginning of the level
without losing any silver stars to collect the third gold star.

Star Four — Big Bob-Omb's Revenge
Big Bob-Omb's back, and he's slightly tougher this time. Run up to the tip-top of
the mountain just like before (Big Bob-Omb on the Summit) but before you go to meet
up with the Big Bob-Omb you'll want to grab the Mario cap from the goomba along the
mountain path (you can see it on your map). With the Mario cap on, approach the Big
Bob-Omb for another showdown.Big Bob-Omb won't toss smaller bob-ombs at you this
time. Instead, the only way you can damage him is by getting behind him and pressing
the attack button to pick him up and toss him (which is why you need the Mario cap).
As Mario, run circles around Big Bob-Omb until you can safely get near him from the
rear. Slow down and press the attack button to pick him up and aim him so that when
you throw him he lands on the same platform (still on the top of the mountain). It
takes three tosses to defeat Big Bob-Omb, but if you throw him off the mountain (or
if he throws you off the mountain) the counter will reset. The only thing you need to
worry about is not getting too close to Big Bob-Omb from the front. If you do, he'll
grab you and toss you off the mountain, forcing you to start the count over. As long
as you're patient you'll be able to get the necessary three tosses to defeat him and
earn the gold star.

Star Five — Mario Wings to the Sky
As you can guess, you'll need Mario for this star. Activate the various cannons
around the battlefield by talking to the first bob-omb buddy to your left and run up
the bridge ahead to reach the field. To the right is a cannon at the top of a
pyramid-shaped stone. Hop in it and aim yourself at the platform to the left. If you
aim above the tree that's on the platform you should be able to grab onto the tree
in mid-flight, stopping you on the platform. On the platform is a red "?" box that
gives Mario a wing cap. Put on the wing cap and hop in the cannon that's on the
platform with you. Just ahead you'll see five rings of coins—the goal is to collect
the coins that are at the centers of each of the five rings (five coins total). You
don't have to make it in one swoop, so if you miss a coin or two (or...all of them)
just float back to the platform and fire yourself off again. Once you've collected
all five center coins, a gold star will appear back on ground level. Float down and
collect the star.

Star Six — Find the 8 Red Coins
The first red coin can be found at the top of the elevating platforms ahead and just
to the left. Hop on a platform and, as it reaches its peak, jump up to grab the
coin. Just beyond, on the grass field ahead, is the second coin resting atop a large
rock formation. Get a running start to make your way to the top of the rock and grab
the coin. The third coin can be found atop the post that's holding the chain chomp in
his place. Grab it, and quickly run across the teetering bridge. To the left you'll
find the fourth and fifth red coins in a plain field. The sixth red coin can be
found under the bridge that connects the next field (to your right) with the main
mountain. Grab that coin and then cross the bridge you're under—to the left is a
steep hill climb where you'll find the seventh red coin.Continue up the hill and
turn right to run up the dirt path that circles to the top of the mountain. Along
the way you'll find a cannon—hop in and aim yourself a little lower and to the left.
You should see a platform with a tree and the last red coin on top of it. Aim just
above the tree, fire away and you should grab the tree as you fly through the air.
Climb the tree and jump up to grab the last coin and return to ground level to
collect your gold star.

Star Seven-Behind Chain-Chomp's Gate
Getting this star is simple enough. Run up the bridge ahead and turn left to find
the chain chomp chained to a pole. Get close enough near him that he reaches out to
bite you, but don't let him hit you—once he's attacked, quickly run behind him and
perform three ground pounds on the pole to pound it into the ground.Chain chomp will
break free and start bounding around. He'll eventually smash into the gate behind
his dugout, letting you freely grab the star behind the gate.

WHOMP'S FORTRESS---------------------------------------------------------------------

Star One — Chip Off Whomp's Block
To earn this first star you'll have to take down Whomp, the large enemy that's
waiting at the top of the fortress. Start by walking forward and turn left up the
dirt path. You can follow the dirt path around the fortress base, though you can
take a shortcut. To the left is a stone wall with a row of coins on top—stand at the
base of the angled path and perform a back jump (jump while crouched) to reach the
top of the stone wall.Run up the length of the wall, following the yellow arrows on
the ground. Turn left at the top of the path and crawl past the sleeping pirahna
plant. Slowly walk along the narrow ledge beyond it and creep past another pirahna
plant. You'll see a rotating plank of wood that'll act as a bridge to the other
side. Run to the center of the plank and wait for it to rotate and stop, pointing
the other direction and letting you cross.Run past the walking stones that slowly
stumble towards you and make your way to the elevating platforms behind them. Hop on
a platform and let it take you to the very top of the fortress where you'll meet up
Whomp. He's got your star, and you're about to force it out of him.

Whomp slowly waddles towards you and, when he gets close enough, slams his entire
body down in a belly-flop attack. Run next to Whomp, moving quickly to avoid the
belly-flop attack. While Whomp is stuck on his belly, jump on top of him and perform
a ground pound (jump and hit the crouch button in mid-air) to counter-attack. You
only need to hit Whom three times to defeat him and force the gold star out of him.

Star Two — To the Top of the Fortress
First, follow the same instructions as outlined above to reach the top platform
where you fought Whomp. There's a new section added to the fortress that you'll have
to climb, all the while dodging the bullet bills firing from the cannon on the
platform.Every other platform that leads to the top of the fortress moves in and
out. Wait on the platform before a moving one and time your jump so that you land on
the moving bit just as it starts to come outwards. You'll have enough time to
position yourself for the next jump before the platform disappears under your feet.
The final platform will carry you to the top of the fortress where you'll find the
second gold star.

Star Three — Shoot Into the Wild Blue
Hop up onto the stone wall ledge mentioned earlier but turn left instead of running
up the length of the wall. Run through the water puddle ahead to meet up with a
buddy bob-omb. Talk to the pink buddy and he'll ready a cannon for you—time to
fly.Hop into the cannon and aim just to the left. You'll see a couple levels of
platforms with a pole on the very top one. Aim the cannon so that it's pointing at
the very base of the flag pole and fire away—you'll land on the platform below that
has a number of coins on it. Grab the coins and slide down the pole in the center of
the platform to reach another platform below with the gold star.

Star Four — Red Coins on the Floating Isle
To find the first red coin, run along the lower platforms until you reach the tip of
the corner with the two patches of yellow flowers (you can see it on your map).
Among the flowers you'll find the coin, though you have to watch out for the pirahna
plants hiding under the foliage. The second red coin is also near the beginning of
the level, so return there and jump up to the platform just to the left. You'll see
blocks pushing out from the wall, and the second red coin floating above them. Wait
for the blocks to come out, jump on top of one and then jump up again to grab the
coin. Run just a bit further up the path to reach the stairway with the falling
blocks. Sneak past the first block, climb up a few stairs, and get past the second
block. When the second block drops again, jump on top of it and let it give you a
boost to reach the third red coin.To get the fourth and fifth coins, run towards the
top of the fortress, along the upper path that leads past two sleeping pirahna
plants. The third coin is behind the first pirahna plant (just crawl to get it), and
the fourth is on the ledge that connects the platforms of both plants. The fifth is
also nearby, just past the second pirahna plant. Step on the rotating plank of wood
and stand near the edge as it rotates outward, letting you grab the coins within the
arc.For the seventh and eighth coins, get to the top of the fortress where the
bullet bill is firing. As you hop off the elevating platforms, turn right to find a
large wooden board sticking straight up. Punch the board once to get it swinging and
then time a jump kick just as the board starts to swing away from you. The board
will fall down and act as a bridge, letting you cross over to the last two red
coins. When you've got all the coins, return to the beginning of the level to claim
your star.

Star Five — Fall Onto the Caged Island
As soon as the level begins, turn around and climb the tree to the very top. An owl
will come out that offers you a ride—jump up to grab on and quickly steer the owl
towards the star on your map. As you approach the island with the cage on it get
ready to drop off—you want to land in front of the cage (not on top of it) so you
don't fall off the island. When you get there, just walk inside the cage and grab
the star.To collect the star, just run through the water again and head up the path
to the left that leads past the sleep pirahna plants. Just past the second plant
you'll find the star hanging off the ledge. Just walk off the ledge to grab it!

Star Six — Blast Away the Wall
Head forward and jump up onto the first ledge to your left. Perform a backflip to
get onto the the top of the stone wall and turn left to run through the water,
towards the buddy bob-omb. Hop in the cannon and aim yourself towards the slender
corner of wall just to your right. Blast away and you'll smash the corner of the
wall. Hop back in the cannon and aim yourself at the identical piece of wall that's
just a little further right than the first. Aim slightly high and nail that corner
to destroy it too, and reveal another star.

Star Seven — Switch Star of the Fortress
As you start the level, hop onto the ledge to the left that puts you on a dirt path.
Run up the path and jump over the blocks that push out from the walls. Just past
those are a few platforms that come out and retract—make your way over the first
moving platform and onto the first platform with a yellow arrow on it. Drop off the
side of the platform to land on a brick block and ground pound the brick to break it
and hit the switch beneath. You have a limited amount of time to get to the star
before it disppears. After you hit the switch, right towards the right side of the
screen around the corner and past a sleeping pirahna plant. Run down the next
stretch of walkway and past the flower patch with a bunch of sleeping pirahnas. Just
around the next corner you'll find the gold star, ready to to be grabbed.

JOLLY ROGER BAY----------------------------------------------------------------------

Star One — Plunder in the Sunken Ship
This is a pretty easy star to get. Jump into the water and start swimming towards
the star on your map (stay on the surface). When you're near the star, look down and
you'll see a sunken ship at the very bottom of the lake. Make sure your breath is
full and dive down, swimming towards the front of the ship. A large eel will swim
out from the entrance to the ship—wait for the eel to disappear and swim through the
hole behind it.When you're inside the ship you can find a pocket of air at the rear.
When you've got the air to do so, swim to the nose of the ship to find a treasure
chest underwater—approach the chest and Mario will open it, releasing the water
trapped in the ship. When the ship is dry, hop back up to the rear of the ship and
break the yellow "!" box to get the golden
star.

Star Two — Can the Eel Come Out to Play?
Here's another easy-to-get star. Start swimming towards the ship (it's now on the
surface), aiming for the star that's on your map. When you reach the back wall of
the cavern, dive down and you'll see the eel's head poking out of a small cave along
the wall. Swim towards it and the eel will start to swim out, giving you a shot at
the gold star that's stuck to its tail!Swim after the eel and touch the star on his
tail. When you do, the star will bounce off and rest right under the cave entrance
from which the eel swam out. Collect your prize!

Star Three — Treasure in the Ocean Cave
Swim towards the raised ship at the back of the cavern and dive under water when
you're near it. Directly under the ship's tail end is a tunnel entrance along the
wall that leads to another section of the cave. You'll have to dive pretty deep to
reach it, and you can use the formation of coins as a nav-point—swim towards the
coins and turn into the tunnel to swim up to the back end of the cavern.Run to the
very end of this new cavern, avoiding the falling rock pillars that come down around
you. At the end you'll see a formation of four treasure chests—you've got to open
them up in the correct order to earn the star. First, approach the chest that's all
the way to the back. When it's opened, open up the chest that's just left of it,
followed by the chest that's on the right side. When those three are opened, open up
the chest to the front to make the gold star appear.

Star Four — Blast to the Stone Pillar
Run to the right side of the cavern and jump in the water. Swim forward, past the
slender spire sticking out of the water, and jump onto the floating wood platform
just ahead. From there, turn around and jump onto the platform behind you. Talk to
the bob-omb buddy and he'll ready the cannon in the area.Swim back towards the beach
you start on to find the stone pedestal with the cannon hole on top (it's in the
shallow water). Drop into the cannon and aim to the right slightly. You'll see three
slender spires sticking up out of the water, and one of them (the left-most) has a
visible ring of coins around the bottom. Aim in the direction of that spire, and
slightly high. Fire away and you'll fly through the air, grabbing onto the spire as
you collide with it. From there you can see the gold star to your left—just rotate
around the spire so that your back is to the platform with the star and jump to
collect your prize.

Star Five — Red Coins on the Ship Afloat
The first four coins you'll find underwater, hidden in the mouths of the clams that
rest on the bottom of the lake. Swim underwater and approach the clams to get them
to open up and you'll have plenty of time to swoop in to grab the coins they
hold. The fifth red coin can be found at the top of one of the slender spires
sticking out of the water. If you're on the beach where you start the level, head
right and swim towards the platform with the bob-omb buddy. Jump to his level and
jump onto the spire that's right next to the platform. Climb to the top and you can
jump up to grab the fifth coin. The last three red coins are sitting on the deck of
the floating ship. To get onto the deck, swim past the bob-omb buddy (the one that
readies the cannon) and backflip onto the stone platform that's just past the
floating wood platform. From there, jump onto the thin planks ahead. When the nose
of the ship drops with the flow of the water, jump onto the ship's deck and collect
the last three coins. When you've got them all, the star will appear at the tail end
of the ship.

Star Six — Switch Star of the Bay
You'll have to play as Luigi in order to get this secret star. Once you're on the
shore of the lake, jump in the water and swim to the back of the cavern. Dive under
the ship and swim through the hole in the wall to enter the rear cavern. In the back
of this smaller cavern is a red box. Break it and collect the flower to turn Luigi
invisible, and quickly run down the cavern, hugging the wall on your right. You'll
find a star switch on the ground that creates a star just a little bit further into
the cavern. Quickly run towards the gated area with the star. While invisible, Luigi
can pass through the grating to jump up and get the star. Be quick, though! The star
disappears very soon, giving you only a small window of time to get to it.

Star Seven — Through the Jet Stream
You'll need Wario's powers in order to earn this star. Swim out to the wood platform
on the right and jump up to the ledge with the power flower box. Bust open the box
and grab the power flower to turn Wario into metal. Jump into the water and simply
sink down to the bottom of the lake—with this much weight behind Wario, he can
easily grab the power star that's sitting in the middle of the underwater jet stream.

Cool, Cool Mountain------------------------------------------------------------------

Star One — Slip Slidin' Away
Getting this first star might be simple, but that doesn't mean it's easy. Follow the
game's instructions and hop into the cottage that's just ahead of you (jump up and
drop into the chimney). You'll drop into a room with a long slide that you'll have
to fly down without falling off the edges. As you start, slow down to make it around
the first corner. If you fall off the first corner you can still save yourself by
holding hard to the right and directing your character onto the lower part of the
slide. Follow the slide through the ice cavern, but don't get too comfortable yet—as
you exit the cavern, the slide leads to a super-narrow row of ice blocks. Stay in
the center of the slide to make it over the ice blocks and cross the finish line.
Once you go through the door at the end the first gold star will appear.

Star Two — Li'l Penguin Lost
Jump up on top of the cabin to the left but don't drop down the chimney. Instead,
jump up to the level above that where you'll find a baby penguin wandering around.
Pick up the penguin and carry it back down to where you began the level. To the left
is a slope that gets so steep you'll have to slide down—be careful with the penguin
as you slide down to the bottom. When you reach the bottom, head right towards the
narrow wooden bridge. Make your way across it slowly, and wait for the snowmen to
jump towards you before you try to run underneath them. Just past that is another
wooden walkway that leads down to a snow platform below. Once you reach the snow,
turn left to make your way to the mother penguin. Give her the child to earn the
second star.

Star Three — Big Penguin Race
Drop into the chimney of the cabin and talk to the penguin that's waiting at the top
of the slide. Agree to take on the race challenge and immediately run onto the slide
to begin the race.If you take any shortcuts on this race you'll be disqualified and
won't earn the star. Stick to fair racing and hold up on the controller at all times
to maximize speed. You don't have much room for being slow and careful, but be
cautious around the turns. In most cases, it's safest to stay on the outsides of the
turns and cut inward as they get sharper. There are a few parts of the race where
the penguin will pass you up no matter what you do, but don't get discouraged. As
long as you're steady and fast, you'll win the race and earn the star.

Star Four — Frosty Slide for 8 Red Coins
You'll want to pick Yoshi in order to get all eight red coins in this level. First,
hop on top of the chimney to reach the level with the baby penguin you rescued
earlier. Just to the left is a small fire that Yoshi can hold in his mouth (use your
tongue) and carry up to the large ice block. Breath the fire out to melt the ice
away and grab the first coin inside.Drop back down to the level where you start and
head right a bit to the edge of a broken bridge. Stand there for a bit until you get
transported to another part of the level where you'll find the second red coin. As
you walk off the wooden platforms and into the snowfield, turn left and run by a few
goombas. Just around the corner to the left is a third red coin, sitting in plain
view.Turn around and backtrack a bit until you see the big mama penguin from
earlier. Just past her is a tree you can climb to reach the fourth red coin at the
top. Just to the left is a lift that'll carry you up to the fifth red coin and
another snowfield. But first, while on your ride on the lift, jump off to the small
platform with the star and a bob-omb buddy. Talk to him and he'll ready the cannons
for you. Jump back towards the level below you (a gust of wind will carry you) to
land back where you got the fourth coin, and hop back on the lift to get the
fifth.Jump up to the next level and run left up the hill, away from the giant
snowman head. You'll see the sixth red coin along the right wall (next to a buddy
bob-omb). Turn around and head back towards the snowman's head.Backtrack to the top
of the lift (where you got the fifth coin) and hop in the cannon that's ready for
you. Aim just a tad to the right and you'll see the next red coin atop a platform in
the distance. Aim in that direction and aim high above it. Launch yourself at the
coin and you'll land on the platform. Swallow some fire and melt the ice block to
get the coin, and drop down to the right to grab the eighth coin at the edge of the
broken bridge. When the gold star appears, use a long jump to span the gap and grab
the star.

Star Five — Snowman's Lost His Head
Jump up to the level with the baby penguin (just above the chimney) and drop to the
platform to your left. You'll see a wooden platform with a large snowball that says
he's missing a snowman head. As soon as the conversation ends, turn right and drop
onto the snow slide! You need to stay ahead of the rolling snowball at all times to
ensure it follows you back to the head. Slide all the way down the hill until you
reach the bottom and then quickly run to the snowman's head. If you've got time, run
behind the snowman's head so that when the snowball comes towards you it hits the
head instead. When the body and head are together you'll earn a gold star.

Star Six — Mario's Super Wall Kick
You'll need Mario's wall kick ability to earn this star, so either choose to play as
Mario or grab the Mario cap item that a goomba is wearing down near the mama penguin.
First, get down to the cabin where the mama penguin is crying. The easiest way to
get there is to use the teleport that activates when you stand on the broken bridge
ledge just to the right of where you start. From there, run across the bridges and
turn right to run past the mama penguin and the cabin. You'll see the bottom of the
lift to your left, and a tree with the owl to the right. You need to use the cannon
that's between them, though if you haven't activated the cannon yet you'll have to
do that (ride the lift upwards and hop onto the platform you see halfway across—talk
to the bob-omb buddy to activate the cannons and then jump back to the cannon, using
the gusts of wind to carry you).Once you're in the cannon, aim low and a little to
the left to see a platform with a tree. Aim in the direction of the tree and very
high above it (pointing at about the middle of the rock formation above it). Launch
yourself and you should land on the tree, reaching a new platform you previously
couldn't reach. From here, run around the narrow ledge to the left avoiding the
twirling enemies. You'll reach a dead-end as the path starts heading upwards in the
opposite direction. Run up the path past the rotating heart and use a wall kick to
jump off the wall at the end and onto the platform above you. Run in the opposite
direction and use a triple jump, giving you enough height to reach an area of the
wall to the left off of which you can wall kick. Once on this platform, head right
across the icy walkway to collect the star.

Star Seven — Switch Star of Cool, Cool Mountain
Go into the Cool, Cool Mountain course as Wario and run right up the path. Step to
the edge of the broken bridge to be warped down to the bottom of the mountain. Run
past the crying mama penguin and hop on the lift to the left.As you ride the lift
up, turn Wario so that he's facing away from the upcoming platform. Perform a back
jump onto the platform (otherwise it's difficult to stop sliding) and step on the
star switch that's next to the buddy bob-omb. Quickly jump off the platform back
towards the mama penguin and use the gust of wind to fly over to the small frozen
pond. Perform a ground pound on the pond to shatter it and collect the power star.

BIG BOO'S HAUNT----------------------------------------------------------------------

Star One — Go on a Ghost Hunt
Enter the large ghost house just ahead to find a large room with many doors. There
are a couple ghosts in the various rooms that you need to defeat—just turn your back
to them and perform a ground pound as they float under you. All of the ghosts you
need to defeat are on the top floor of the haunted house, though two of them are
well hidden.Once you enter the main room of the ghost house, turn left and enter the
doorway to the northwest. Some furniture will pick up and fly at you. Dodge the
furniture and jump on the table in the room. You'll see a painting of a boo that's
hiding his face—turn your back to the painting and two boos will float out from the
painting. Wait for them to get close and ground pound them to summon a big boo back
in the main room of the house.Return to the main foyer to face off against the big
boo. He starts out moving very slowly, making your first strike exceptionally easy—
just run behind him and punch him (or perform a slide attack by attacking while
running at full speed). After hitting him the first time, the big boo will chase
after you faster. Again, circle around him until you can attack him from the rear
and nail him with a jumping slide attack. He gets even faster after the second
attack, but you can still outrun him in a circle sprint. Attack him for the third
time and the big boo will give up the golden star. Hop up the stairs to grab it!

Star Two — Ride Big Boo's Merry-Go-Round
Right away, enter the haunted house and step through the doorway directly to your
right. Drop through the hole in the floor and you'll land in a pool of water in the
basement. In the center of the basement are doors that lead to the haunted merry-go-
round you need to dominate for this mission.Enter the merry-go-round room and run
around the paintings to lure out the boos hiding inside. When you've lured a couple
out, stand in one of the non-moving alcoves of the room with your back to the boos
and let them float to you. Jump and ground pound them into submission, and then go
around to lure out more boos. There are five boos to defeat in total—when all are
gone, a big boo will app You've got to defeat this big boo just like you did the
last, though it's a bit trickier in this environment. Find a part of the merry-go-
round that's away from the fire breather and circle around that small section to get
in an attack on the big boo's rear. If you get low on health you can always exit the
room and jump into the water to revive yourself, but if you do so you'll have to
start over the fight with big boo (even if you hit him before, if you leave and come
back you'll have to hit him three more times to defeat him). Big boo will cough up
another gold star when you defeat him.

Star Three — Secret of the Haunted Books
Upon entering the house head up the stairs to reach the second floor and turn left.
Enter the second doorway you see (the one in front of you, not the one to your
right) and you'll enter a long hall of books. As you make your way down the hall,
jump to avoid the books firing out. When you run into a dead-end you'll see three
green books that poke out from the rest. Kick them in the correct order and the
bookshelf will slide away—first, hit the center book, then the one to the right, and
finally the one on the left. Hop through the doorway ahead to claim the golden star.

Star Four — Seek the 8 Red Coins
The red coins are pretty well hidden throughout the entire haunted house. When you
enter the house, start by going through the doorway directly to your right—you'll
find the first red coin behind the haunted piano. Lure the piano away from the wall
and run back to grab the coin. Go through the next doorway in the piano room to
enter a room with the second and third red coins, both atop different bookshelves
along the walls. The fourth red coin can be found in the room just right of the main
doorway. Head back to the main foyer and climb the steps to the second floor,
turning left to enter the first door on your right. The fifth coin can be found on
the mesh walkways, though be careful not to fall below.Exit the room and head down
the other direction on the second floor walkway. Enter the first room on your left
to find two rows of coffins. Walk near the coffins and a few of them will rise up,
revealing the sixth coin. Head back to the second floor of the center room in the
house and enter the doorway to the right. Just past the bookshelf and around the
corner is the seventh red coin, and a doorway that leads to a small balcony
overlooking the main foyer. As Mario, hit the red box at the end of the balcony and
float to grab the eighth and final red coin that's hovering above the steps. When
you've got the eighth coin, a gold star appears on the second floor balcony.

Star Five — Big Boo's Balcony
Enter the haunted house and immediately head up the steps to reach the second floor
balcony. Turn right and enter the last door you see. Just past the bookshelf on the
left is a bit of a platform near the bottom of the screen. Jump on it and perform
either a triple jump or a wall kick to reach the hidden floor above you.Through the
next two doors you'll find a balcony with the big boo on it. Since the area is so
small, defeating him can be a challenge. The easiest way to take down the big boo
ios to stand facing away from him. As the big boo nears you, perform a double jump
(it gives you a bit more height than a single jump) and ground pound the boo as it
floats under you. Hit him three times and he'll cough up another star. To get to the
star, break the red box nearby to inflate Mario, letting you float to the roof of
the house to collect the star.

Star Six — Eye to Eye in the Secret Room
You need Luigi to earn this star, though there's a Luigi cap to be found in the
house that you can also use. To get the Luigi cap, run around to the back of the
house and enter the doorway there. Defeat the boo that's wearing Luigi's cap to take
the cap and transform yourself into Luigi.Enter the main foyer of the haunted house
and head up the steps. Turn right when you're at the second floor balcony and enter
the last door you can. Run past the bookshelf and break the red box to turn Luigi
invisible, allowing him to pass through certain walls. Perform either a triple jump
or a backflip to reach the hidden level above you and step through the doorway and
into an attic.Run towards the bottom of the screen and turn left to see a painting
of a boo. With Luigi invisible you can pass through this painting, revealing a
hidden room with a boo and a large eye. All you need to do is circle around the eye
to defeat it, and it'll drop a gold star for you to collect.

Star Seven — Switch Star in the Basement
Enter the course as Wario and immediately run into the small cabin to the left (not
the main house). Take the elevator down to the basement level and wade through the
halls of water until you go through a doorway. You'll find a large black-brick block
in the basement that Wario can ground pound to crush—hit the star switch underneath
and very quickly run around to the other side of the basement to grab the
star. However, there's a problem: Wario is slow. Before you hit the switch, run to
the other side of the basement to grab the Mario cap from under the water (you can
see it on your map). Now that you've transformed to Mario, step on the switch again
and quickly run to the star. Mario's much faster than Wario, making it pretty easy
to get the golden power star.

Hazy Maze Cave-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Star One — Swimming Beast in the Cavern
The level branches out right at the very start. For now, take the left branch and
long-jump over the gap to head through the first door. Once through the doory,
follow the narrow walkway left, past a sign, and up a ramp with rolling boulders. The
elevator that takes you down to the underground lake is in the next room. Hop on it
and ride down to a dirt path that leads to the water's edge. Swim out to the giant
swimming beast and jump onto its back (there's no danger). Ground pound the beast's
back, forcing its head to drop and letting you jump up to steal the Wario cap that
the beast is wearing.Once you've turned into Wario, jump off the beast's back and go
to the island in the center of the lake. Simply punch the large boulder that's there
to shatter it, revealing the golden star.

Star Two — Elevate for 8 Red Coins
Take the path to the right towards the work elevator and skip past the goombas and
other enemies you run into before heading through the doorway. Once you're in the
next room, drop down the pole to your left and turn right. In the corner of the room
is a set of steps that'll let you reach the work elevator platform above.Ride the
platform around the lower area of the room, directing it by stepping on the arrow
pads that point in the direction you want to move. There are three red coins to get
on this lower level, including two of them that are hidden within the red-brick
blocks floating in the air (ground pound them to reveal the red coins). When you've
got those three, run back to where the work platform starts and hop on it again to
ride it straight forward to the ledge with a pole.Climb up the pole and jump onto
the platform to the left. From there you can walk onto a green-and-white checkered
platform that'll carry you around the room. First, ground pound the brick block the
checkered platform runs into to reveal another red coin. If you fall back to the
ground just repeat the steps you took to get back to the checkered platform and ride
it again. It'll carry you through the fifth red coin and pass right under the sixth
(just jump to get it). Finally, the platform will give you access to a ledge with
the last two remaining red coins. The golden star will appear on the ground floor,
right in the center of the room.

Star Three — Metal-Head Wario Can Move
Take Wario to the underground lake by heading left at the first branch, continuing
across the mesh catwalks, and running up the hill with the rolling boulders. Just
through the next door is an elevator that'll take you to the underground cave.Just
to your left at the bottom of the elevator is a red box with a power flower. Grab
the power flower to turn Wario into metal, and very quickly run down the hill ahead
of you. You can use a couple of long jumps to get you downhill faster, though once
you reach the water you should stay planted to the ground. Underwater you'll see a
narrow path that leads along the left wall and up to an underwater switch. Step on
the switch (while Wario's still metal) and a door to the left will open up.Head
through the door and hug either the left or right walls to avoid the enemies that
pop up from the gaps in the floor. Use long jumps to clear the gaps and reach the
power star at the other end of the hall.

Star Four — Navigating the Toxic Maze
Enter the level as Mario and take a right at the first branch. Once through the
first door, slide down the red pole and enter the second pathway on your left.
There's a hole in the back of the room—drop through it and enter the Hazy
Maze.Standing in the haze of the maze will damage Mario, so you'll have to be quick
to get to the bit of land just ahead. Ignore the enemies on the land platform and
jump to hit the red box, revealing a power flower to inflate Mario. Float over the
haze as you continue down the path towards the power star (it's on your map). When
the path branches, you'll see a blue floor switch to the right and more haze to the
left. Take the path to the right—just around the corner is another power flower that
you'll need to inflate Mario and carry him the rest of the way, and up to the ledge
that leads to the star.

Star Five — A-Maze-Ing Emergency Exit
Reach the Hazy Maze the same way you did before and get the inflating power flower
(for Mario) to float over the haze again. At the branch in the maze, take the left
route this time and you'll see a ledge with a door to the left. Float up there and
walk through the door to enter a long hall with an elevator at the end.Once at the
top of the elevator, step off onto the main platform. Perform a double jump and hold
the jump button so that you cling to the mesh that's above you. While clinging to
the mesh you can make your way over the chasm below—follow the mesh that leads to
the golden power star.

Star Six — Watch for Falling Rocks
Take Wario into the level and head down the left path, following the mesh beyond the
door to reach the ramp with the rolling boulders. Wario can break the boulders with
his attacks, so wait for the boulders to roll towards you and jump kick 'em. After
breaking a few (about four) a power star will appear.

Star Seven — Underground Switch Star
Enter the course as Wario and head down the right path to reach the large work area
with the red pole. Slide down the pole and run to the very far-right corner of the
room. Ground pound the black-brick block to reveal a star switch, but before
stepping on the switch you should grab the Luigi cap from a goomba nearby. As Luigi,
step on the star switch and run along the wall (keeping the wall on your left) to
reach the tall steps that lead up to the platforms above. Jump up the steps and turn
right—run across the work elevator platform and long jump across the gap to reach
the power star.

LETHAL LAVALAND----------------------------------------------------------------------

Star One — Boil the Big Bully
Long jump over the first gap in the platforms and turn left through the archway.
Once you cross the path with the arrows, turn left and run up the rising draw-bridge
while it's point upwards—you'll reach the center just as the two parts of the bridge
come together, letting you cross to the other side.Just past the rotating eyeball is
a platform that's sinking to either side. Hop across it, staying on the ledges that
are free from laval, and jump onto the moving Bowser sliding puzzle. When moving
across the puzzle, make sure to stay away from the pieces that are adjacent to the
missing piece—make your way across and quickly run past the enemies on the next
platform, onto the rotating platform ahead, and jump to the right, onto a non-moving
platform.Cross over the sinking platform ahead (stay in the center and you're fine)
to reach a platform with a giant bully on top. You'll have to push the bully off the
platform and into the lava in order to get the star he's hodling—lure him towards
the edge of the platform, dodge his attack, and run behind him to punch him in the
back. It won't take more than a few punches to push him off the ledge, leaving you
to jump up and grab the star.

Star Two — Bully the Bullies
Head through the archway the same as last time, but when you reach the platform with
the first bully on it turn right instead. Jump your way to the snaking stone walkway
and follow it to a set of four platforms that sink and rise in the lava. Hop from
platform to platform (don't walk across—you'll likely hit the lava between them) to
reach the furtherst one to the left. From there you can jump onto the moving mesh
platform and jump onto the area with the three bullies. When you get to the platform
with the bullies, quickly run to the right side and try to lose their attention. You
have to knock all three off the platform, and it's much easier to do so if you can
go at them ont at a time. Once you've lost their attention, attack one from behind
when it walks near the edge of the platform. When all three are bounced off a big
bully will drop onto the platform. Knock him off the ledge and you'll get the gold
star. When knocking the buddies off the ledge it's important to attack early. They're
very fast, and if you hit the attack button right when you run into them you'll
loose the fight and get bounced back. If you attack early, your fist will meet their
face before they get close enough to touch you, sending the bullies flying and
letting you hold your ground.

Star Three — 8-Coin Puzzle With 15 Pieces
Earning this star is exceptionally easy once you get to where you need to be. Follow
the path like you did to get the first star so that you reach the sliding puzzle of
Bowser. All of the eight red coins are on top of the puzzle pieces—no searching
necessary.Run around the surface of the puzzle collecting the coins. Only the puzzle
pieces adjacent to the hole in the puzzle will move, so as long as you stay away
from the hole you'll be completely safe. Collecting the coins is a bit easier if you
zoom the camera out, giving you a better view of the shifting puzzle. When all eight
red coins are collected, the gold star appears nearby.

Star Four — Red-Hot Log Rolling
Run towards the archway and turn right when you reach the first bully enemy. Further
to the right is a platform with two bullies circling 'round—jump onto their
platform, but don't worry about fighting them off. Just hop past them and onto the
mesh platform that's connected to their ring of terror. Swing the camera around
behind you as the mesh platform carries you past some spurts of fire and to a new
set of obstacles.Run up the steps ahead to get level with the large log in the area.
You need to step on the log and lightly run to get the log rolling towards the
platforms to the left. Face right and start moving slightly, and speed up as the
long starts to roll (in order to avoid falling off). Once you get the log all the
way left you can then run across it to reach the platform ahead of you. Run down the
narrow walkway to grab the star.

Star Five — Hot-Foot-It into the Volcano
Run through the archway and turn right at the first bully. Instead of continuing
right, however, hop onto the spinning platform that circles the volcano in the
center of the level. When you set foot on the platform it'll stop spinning while a
spout of lava fires out the top of the volcano—wait for it to stop and then jump
into the volcano (you can stand on the volcano's sides).Head forward across the
platforms in the lava until you reach the outer walkway that runs around the
perimeter of the volcano's insides. Follow the walkway upwards, dodging the spout of
fire from the wall, the first bully, and the falling section on the wall to the
left. After hopping across a series of small platforms you'll reach an area with a
second bully—this one you should take out. Knock it off the ledge to give yourself
plenty of time to creep along the next narrow path.Climb the pole ahead, reach the
top, and turn your back to the next platform before leaping off onto the second
pole. Slide down to touch the platform below and jump up to the next ledge to claim
your golden star.

Star Six — Inside the Volcano
Jump back into the volcano the same way as detailed for the last star. Instead of
following the platforms ahead of you, turn around and jump backwards across the
stones. Step on the platform at the end and wait on it while it starts ascending
through the volcano. When the platform meets up with another identical platform
quickly jump onto the next—the first platform will fall into the lava, along with
you if you don't jump off. Just ahead, the second platform circles around a pole.
Quickly jump onto the pole to avoid sharing a fate with the platform as it falls
into the lava.Climb up the pole to the very top and turn your back to the platform
above. Jump onto the platform and climb a second pole. Again, jump backwards from
the top to land on the small platform above, and then hop across to grab the golden
star.

Star Seven — Flaming Silver Stars
By now you know the drill—collect the five silver stars in the level to make a
golden star appear. As always, the five silver stars are marked on your map, so the
challenge is knowing how to get to them.Run across the first platform and past the
archway. There's a yellow "!" block that'll give you a green turtle shell to ride
on. While riding on the shell you're impervious to the lava below you, giving you
free-range over the level. All of the five silver stars are within easy reach while
riding the shell. Just collect them all and return to the rock formation behind the
level's start to claim the golden star.

Shifting Sand Land-------------------------------------------------------------------

Star One — In the Talons of the Big Bird
Run around the hill to your left and head towards the pyramid in the center of the
course. There's a thick pillar at each corner of the pyramid that you can run
straight up if you've got enough speed—make it to the top of one (the left ones) and
wait for the buzzard to fly by with the star. When the buzzard gets near you, wait
for it to fly overhead and jump kick him! If you get him right, the star will fly
out to the other end of the pyramid. Run to go get it, jumping the whole time to
avoid sinking into the dangerous quicksand. You'll find the power start waiting for
you without any more drama.

Star Two — Shining Atop the Pyramid
Run forward just a bit and you'll find a small open-air structure. Perform a triple
jump to get on top of it and bust open the yellow box to reveal a koopa shell.Hop on
the shell and start riding towards the pyramid (avoid the tornado to the left). Ride
around the right side of the pyramid and start hopping up the sides as the path sort
of spirals around the massive structure. Follow the path (to avoid bumping into the
flat walls) and at the top you'll find the golden power star.

Star Three — Inside the Ancient Pyramid
Get onto the koopa shell as detailed above to make the first part of your travel
easier. Ride across the sand, going around the right side of the pyramid to reach
the small entrance on the other side. Get off the koopa shell before going through
the doorway (if you mess up while on the koopa shell you'll fall into the quicksand)
and head inside. You now need to reach the top of the pyramid (from the inside) to
grab the star. Start by heading right and stay on the paths that line the perimeter
(the center area is filled with slower sinking sand). When you finally reach the
very far end of the room you'll find a ramp that heads up to the next level. From
the second level, double back and start returning to the front of the pyramid—
there's a pole at the end of the walkway that'll let you climb to a third
level.Start heading right at the top of the pole and jump to cling onto the bottom
of a mesh platform to swing your way to the other side of the steep slope. After
jumping up to another level you'll have to get by a large rolling cylinder—in the
middle of the wall is an alcove you can slip into that'll let you escape the rolling
cylinder as it comes back towards you. Hop up the moving steps just ahead and sidle
along the wall to get through the very narrow path. At the end is another pole that
leads to the fourth level of the pyramid's innards.Skip past the stomping block (you
can push into it and wait for it to jump up before dashing underneath) and follow
the trail of coins. They'll lead you straight to the third golden power star.

Star Four — Stand Tall on the Four Pillars
The first goal of the level isn't an easy one—you've got to go to the top of each of
the four pillars that surround the pyramid and stand at the very tip top. You can
run up the sides of three of them, though the fourth pillar is surrounding by
instant-death quicksand. To get to it, you can use Mario and grab the feather from
the red box that spawns on the first level of the pyramid—once you've got the
feather, triple jump and fly towards the pillar. The easier way is to triple jump on
top of the first structure you run into to get the koopa shell from the yellow box.
With it, you can jump over the pit of quicksand and ride to the top of the pillar
(though you'll have to hit the crouch button just as you reach the top of the pillar
to get rid of the shell and touch the top with your feet).Once you've stepped on all
four pillars the tip of the pyramid breaks off, revealing a hole that drops into the
top of the pyramid. Run up to the front entrance and turn right—you can spiral
around the pyramid, going up levels to reach the top. Drop into the top of the
pyramid and ride the elevator platform down until it stops. When you reach the
bottom, jump up to the platform that's now touching your elevator and punch the
brick inside to smash it open. Drop through the tunnel to land in a room below—as
you move forward, two hands will form out of the bricks and pose a quick challenge.
Each hand has an eye in the center of the palm—you have to hit each eye three times
to defeat the hands. Wait for one hand to attack you while the other hand sits back
and opens up, and quickly run in for a strike. Watch the shadow on the ground as a
hand hovers overhead to avoid its slam attack, and don't let it push you off the
platform. When you've defeated both hands the power star appears nearby.

Star Five — Tox Box Switch Star
Head into the level as Wario and run past the first set of enemies, moving towards
the set of platforms being guarded by two rolling blocks. Walk onto the first
platform and dodge the first block (you can get out of the way or wait for the empty
side to fall on top of you) to get past it. As the path branches in two directions,
head right and jump across the sand to get across two platforms. On the last
platform is a black-brick block that Wario can smash, revealing the switch. As you
hit the switch the star appears on the other end of the course. To get to it most
quickly, turn around (facing away from the star) and run to the end of the walkway.
Turn right to go under a red power flower box and stand at the very end of the
platform—Wario will be teleported away, and you'll appear right next to the power
star.

Star Six — Pyramid Puzzle
You'll need to make your way back into the pyramid through the front entrance, and
the easiest way to do that is to ride on a koopa shell. Jump on top of the first
structure you see (just past the first group of enemies) and break the yellow box to
get the koopa shell and ride it around the pyramid to reach the front entrance. You
need to reach the very top of the pyramid's insides, going the same way you did
before (for reference, read the Inside the Ancient Pyramid section). As you start
making your way higher you'll see silver stars scattered about the pyramid's upper
levels. Ignore them for now until you reach the very top (with the large white block
that moves along a narrow platform and stomps down). The first silver star is right
next to you on the platform, and the other four are nearby. To get the second, drop
off the platform on the right side. You should then be able to see the third and
fourth stars on platforms below you—just drop down to the lower platforms (don't
jump) to get the stars, and when you grab the fourth make sure you jump around a bit
to avoid sinking through the sand. The fifth silver star is on the same sandy
walkway as the fourth, just a bit further down. When you've grabbed that, the golden
power star appears at the very end of the sandy walkway.

Star Seven — Free Flying for 8 Red Coins
Enter the course as Mario and immediately turn around to run to the corner of the
area for the first red coin. Backtrack and run past the first group of enemies to
find the first open-air structure. There's a red-brick block inside that Mario can
smash with a ground pound, revealing the second red coin. Continue just ahead
towards the tox blocks and their platform—just past the first tox block, turn left
and jump right to get the third red coin.Run down the length of the tox blocks
platforms, heading past a second and third tox block. At the end is a small body of
water, along with the fourth coin. To get the last four coins you'll need to fly, so
head to the front entrance of the pyramid, break the nearby red power flower box,
and grab the flower the put on the wing cap.The four remaining coins are floating
somewhere near the tops of each of the tour pillars surrounding the pyramid. To get
high enough you'll have to take flight from near the top of the pyramid—get up there
and triple jump to start flying before collecting the four remaining coins. If
you're having trouble collecting them in flight, you can alternatively enter the
level as Luigi to get the first four coins. After that, you can get three more coins
by standing on the tops of the pillars, backflipping, and floating towards them. The
last red coin (the one near the pillar in the middle of the quicksand) will have to
be acquired by flying still—grab a Mario cap from near the area with the koopa
shell, then grab the power flower, and take the last the last coin. When all coins
are collected the power star appears on top of the structure with the koopa shell.
Collect it and soak up the glory.

Dire, Dire Docks---------------------------------------------------------------------

Star One — Board Bowser's Sub
Dive under water as Mario and head for the very bottom. Along the wall to the north
you'll find a small cave entrance highlighted by a ring of coins. Swim up into it
and follow it until you can come up for air again. You'll see some large yellow
arrows that point you back underwater—follow them through another underwater tunnel
to appear in a pool with a large submarine.Swim behind the submarine to find a low
ledge you can jump to. Break open the red box to reveal a power flower and grab it—
Mario will inflate, allowing you to float over to the top of the submarine and grab
the golden power star.

Star Two — Chests in the Current
There are three treasure chests sitting at the bottom of the pool of water, and
you've got to open them up in the correct order to reveal the golden power star.
Swim down to the bottom and look for the first chest—it's the one that's furthest
away from the other two, and is sitting next to a clam. Open it up, grab the air
bubble that rises out of it, and aim for the next.
The second chest to open is the one that's covered with seaweeds. Once you've got
that one opened, carefully open the treasure chest that's closest to the whirlpool.
If you get sucked into the whirlpool you'll get spit out of the level and be forced
to retry. Once all three chests are opened, the power star will appear underwater
for you to grab.

Star Three — Pole-Jumping for Red Coins
Right off the bat, dive underwater and swim through the tunnel to pop out at the
submarine bay section of the course. Swim up to the platform at the back of the room
and step on the red floor switch to create two sets of steps that lead up to higher
platforms. Run for the set of steps that spawns furthest from you (to the right) and
make your way up to the top platform (one that won't disappear). You'll find the
first red coin at the top of the platform, along with a number of moving poles.
There are two poles that move near the platform you're on: one moves left and one
moves right. Jump onto the pole that moves left and ride it to collect three more
red coins before riding it back to the platform with the first coin.Once back to the
first platform hop onto the pole that's moving right. Ride it over to another
platform with two more poles moving away from it. Ride the pole to the left (to
another platform) and get onto a second pole that'll move you towards the fifth red
coin. When you've got that, backtrack across two to reach the second platform. You
can now jump to grab the pole to the right and ride it towards the back of the room.
When the pole stops you'll have to jump off and onto the pole that's right next to
it and ride that pole to grab the sixth coin. It's difficult, and can be avoided if
you entered the level as Mario. Instead of all the tricky pole riding, drop down to
the platform below and hit the red box to get a power flower. Use Mario's floating
ability to float up to the platform near the last three coins and ride the two poles
surrounding it to grab 'em.

Star Four — Through the Jet Stream
Take Wario into the course and swim through the underwater tunnel to reach the
submarine docking bay. At the bottom of the pool is a jet stream with a series of
rings flowing upwards from it—you need to get five of the rings to go around Wario
in order to make the star appear. You can go through the rings normally, just by
swimming straight down into the jet stream, but you'll need to be metal Wario in
order to get the power star.Luckily, there's a red box on a platform at the back of
the docking area. Jump up to the platform to get the power flower and drop to the
bottom of the pool to collect the star. You can also get the rings to go around you
while you're metal Wario, which is actually even easier—just stand in the center of
the jetstream and wait for five rings to pass Wario and spawn the star.

Star Five — Koopa Surfin' Switch Star
Take Wario into the course and swim up to the beach with the three black-brick
blocks. Ground pound the blocks to uncover the star switch that spawns a star on the
other side of the pool. If you hit the switch and just run for it, there's no chance
to make it in time before the star disappears. The solution? In the yellow box that's
near the star switch is a koopa shell—hit the yellow box to drop the shell, run over
to step on the star switch, and then immediately hop on the koopa shell. You can
glide over the surface of the water in a straight-shot line to reach the power star.

Star Six — Inside the Cage
As Luigi, swim through the underwater tunnel to reach the submarine bay on the other
side. Head straight through the water to reach the platform on the other side and
hit the red box to drop the power flower. Grab it, and Luigi will go invisible.Dive
back into the water and veer to the right, aiming for the star on your map. Near the
bottom of the pool is a cage that surrounds a star. While invisible, pass through
the cage and grab the star—easy as that.

Star Seven — The Manta Ray's Reward
Make sure you head into the level as either Mario or Luigi—any character is capable
of earning this star, but the swimming power of these two is the best, making it
much easier to do with either brother. In the first pool of water is a large manta
ray circling around the center whirlpool. Chase after it and swim through the rings
that trail the ray—you have to swim through five consecutive rings to make the power
star appear. If you miss one of the rings the count starts over, so it's best to aim
yourself carefully before taking the full plunge and swimming as fast as you
can. After swimming through five consecutive rings, the golden power star appears
just above the whirlpool. Swim to it—while avoiding the pull of the whirlpool (just
stay high)—to earn the star.

Snowman's Land-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Star One — Snowman's Big Head
Start by heading right to go around the mountain in the center of the course. As you
near a pool of water you'll have to walk along a narrow snow pathway while jumping
over the mounds of snow that quickly rush down the length of the walkway. When you
reach the end, perform a double jump to get high enough to reach the platform above.
Follow the path up the mountain, jumping and climbing when needed, until you reach
an icy walkway with the snowman's head.If you try walking across the platform the
snowball will instantly blow you off. To get by, wait for the big penguin to come
marching near you. Stay on the left side of the penguin as it crosses back over the
ice walkway and you'll be able to avoid getting blown off. When the penguin stops
momentarily, stop with it and get ready to run—when it starts moving again the
penguin will be fast for a second before slowing down to normal speed.Once you pass
the icy walkway you can jump up another level and backflip onto the top of the
snowman's head. Up there you'll find the golden power star.

Star Two — Chill with the Bully
Head right, towards mountain, and you'll soon see an icy platform to the right with
the bully on top. Long jump onto the platform and try to push him off. This bully is
a big tougher than the bullies you've dealt with before, though the premise is
exactly the same. Hang out near the edge of the platform to lure the bully towards
you—dodge around him and quickly punch him to push him to the edge. It'll take one
final punch to push him off the edge once the bully is teetering there. Once you
defeat him you'll get the power star.

Star Three — Yoshi's Ice Sculpture
Enter the level as Yoshi and start heading right (as per usual). Instead of going
around the mountain, however, you'll almost immediately find a red power flower box.
Bust open the box to grab the power flower, giving Yoshi the power to breathe
fire.Turn around and run back the opposite direction. In the corner of the course
you'll find a stack of ice blocks, and in the very top ice block is the power star.
You'll have to jump up to the first two stacks (the ones that are one and two blocks
tall, respectively). From the second stack you can melt the top block on the third
stack, and from the top of the third stack you can melt the final block with the
power star.Because your time with the power flower is limited you may need to make a
couple trips back and forth in order to melt the necessary blocks. Once you've
melted the top block on the third stack you can then return with a fresh power
flower and backflip onto the top of the third stack, giving you plenty of time to
melt the final block of ice.

Star Four — Whirl from the Freezing Pond
Run right around the mountain and continue to the pond area with the walkway and the
spinning flower enemies. Jump onto the walkway and reach the corner (where the
rushing snow mounds end their run). From this corner, jump onto the nearest spinning
flower enemy and you'll be catapulted into the air—as you float down, guide your
character over the brick wall behind you, where you'll find two yellow boxes. Break
open the box to the left to reveal the golden power star.

Star Five — Snowman's Silver Star
Take a sharp right at the start of the level and run to the corner of the course
with the pen full of goombas. Grab the nearby silver star and turn left to run
towards the next corner of the course. You'll pass up one silver star that's under
the ice platform with the giant bully (you'll get it later) before you reach an open
field with enemies and a second silver star. Now continue around the mountain and use
the flower enemies to boost up and over the brick wall (the same way you did to get
the fourth star in the course). You'll find a third silver star there, along with
two yellow boxes. Bust open the box on the right to reveal a turtle shell, your key
to grabbing the last two stars.Without going on to the pond, ride the turtle shell
up the hill to your right. At the very end of the hill is a fourth silver star. Ride
down the hill and ride under the icy platform with the big bully—without jumping
you'll be able to grab the fifth and final silver star. When you've got all stars,
the golden power star appears back near the beginning of the course—go claim it.

Star Six — Into the Igloo
Enter the course as Luigi and run around the mountain to the area with the spinning
flower enemies and the brick wall with the koopa shell. You can use the flower
enemies to boost Luigi over the wall, or just use a backflip (since Luigi can
float). Once there, grab the koopa shell from the yellow box to the right and ride
it back down into the water. On the other side of the platforms with the rolling
mounds of snow is a narrow snowy path that leads up the side of the mountain. Follow
the line of coins (jumping as necessary) while riding the shell to reach the small
igloo at the top. Hop off the shell and crawl into the igloo.Get to the very back of
the igloo to find a red box in the corner. Break the box and grab the power flower,
turning Luigi invisible for a brief period of time. Quickly run back to the other
side of the room and Luigi will drop through the mesh flooring, letting you grab the
golden power star.

Star Seven — Red Coins in the House
Return to the igloo in the same manner as described for the Into the Igloo star.
Once there you'll see that the area is littered with red coins, all in plain view.
Just run around the area collecting the coins to main the gold power star appear
inside the igloo. The only two red coins that might escape your sight are the two
that are hidden underwater—otherwise, they're all easily viewable.

Wet-Dry World------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: This level is unique in that you can alter the course depending on how you
jump into the painting. If you jump high into the painting, the water level will be
high when you enter it. If you jump low into the painting, the water level will be
low. The walkthrough for collecting the stars in this course will be written
assuming you jumped into the painting at about medium height (just under the water
bug's head)—you should start on a wooden platform with a longer wooden platform
directly behind you (at the surface of the water).

Star One — Shocking Arrow Lifts!
Turn around right at the start of the level and run to the end of the wooden
platform you're on. Step on the floor switch at the end and a series of wooden
platforms will appear to the right. Hop across the platforms and turn right to get
atop a stone pedestal with coins. At the end of the pedestal is a diamond-shaped
water switch that'll raise the water level. With the water level raised, turn towards
the star on your map and jump in the water. Just ahead (and a little to the left) is
a wooden platform floating at the surface. Hop on it and you'll be able to reach the
red-brick platforms above. Hop on them to get access to the tiny arrow platforms
above. You need to step on the arrow switch platforms and ride them over to the other
arrow switch platforms—you'll need to make use of all the switches to get across to
the next brick platform. Jump up to break the yellow "!" box to reveal the power
star.

Star Two — Top o' the Top
Hop off the platform and swim straight forward. To the left you'll see a narrow
walkway that sort of spirals out of the water and to an upper level of the platforms
to the left. Reach the top and just behind the cage you'll find a red floor switch—
step on it to make a series of red-brick steps appear next to you.Hop up the steps
and jump to the permanent platform ahead (with the goomba wearing the Wario cap).
Turn left and jump across a couple more platforms, past a bob-omb buddy, and onto a
large platform with the large enemy. Avoid the enemy's grasp as you turn left to
find a narrow wooden platform. Jump up to it and carefully walk across. At the end of
the wooden plank you'll see more floating platforms overhanging the water. Jump
across them and you'll soon reach the golden power star.

Star Three — 5 Secrets in the Shallows & Sky
Again, jump straight into the water and swim to the gray walkway that spirals out of
the water just ahead. Turn left at the top of the walkway to run around the side of
the cage and step on the red floor switch to spawn a series of red-brick steps.
Climb the steps as before but don't jump across to the next platform—instead, break
the yellow "!" box on top of the cage and you'll see the number "1" appear. Now it's
time to find the other four "!" boxes. The second "!" box you need to hit is nearby.
Drop down to the floor below (the level that's at the top of the gray spiral) and to
the left you'll see a stone pillar that's being circled by an electric amp enemy.
Backflip to the top of the pillar and break the second box that's there. Drop back
down into the water and swim under the spiral walkway. You'll find a diamond water
switch at the floor of the pool that you should hit, dropping the water level to the
lowest possible point. Once that's accomplished, turn around and run towards the
wall (staying at the very floor of the pool) and turn right to head to the far end
of the course. You'll find the third "!" box right next to the wall, and a pushable
block to the right of it. Push the block under the "!" box (getting the third
secret) and jump up to break the "!" box (the fourth secret).Hop back down to the
pool floor and jump up to the platform to the right with the chuckya mechanism. Run
past it to find another pushable block that's sticking in the wall—push it further
into the wall and you'll unlock the fifth secret, along with the golden star. Jump
back down to the floor of the pool and to the left is a tall stone structure with an
amp enemy circling around the top. You can jump up the blocks to reach the top with
another diamond water switch—hit it to raise the water back to the level where you
started. You can then swim back to the floating wood platform that you started the
level on and jump up to the long wood platform behind it to collect the power star.

Star Four — Express Elevator—Hurry Up!
Start by diving into the water and swimming towards the gray path that spirals out
of the water. Instead of taking the path up, however, swim under it to hit the
diamond water switch, lowering the water level to its lowest possible point. With
that done you now have to make it to the top of the tower to your left. To get
there, turn around and run around the corner of the tower until you reach a platform
you can jump to. There's a chuckya mechanism running around that can toss you up to
the second level, where you'll find a second chuckya that can throw you up to the
third (top) level.Once there, turn right to go towards the cage with the star in the
center—this is the star you're after. Step on the red floor switch to spawn the red-
brick steps and climb them to the top of the cage. Just past the edge of the cage is
a wooden platfrom that'll act as an elevator if you step on the right part of it.
Activate the platform and it'll start moving down. Hop off the elevator and fall
down to the floor below (you'll outrun the elevator, but you'll need to ground pound
at the last second to avoid damage) and quickly run into the cage at the bottom.
Once inside the cage, wait for the elevator to reach the bottom and jump on top of
it. It'll carry you up to the top, still inside the cage, allowing you to reach the
golden power star.

Star Five — Go to Town for the Red Coins
Jump in the water and swim towards the gray walkway that spirals out of the water.
Head up the walkway to the upper level of the tower and step on the floor switch to
again summon the red-brick steps that go up the side of the cage. Climb up the steps
and jump across the gap to the platform with the goomba wearing a Wario cap. To the
right, down the steep slope, is a diamond water switch you need to hit (it raises
the water to the maximum height). To the left you'll find a bob-omb buddy—talk to
him and he'll ready a cannon for you. With the cannon ready and the water level at
the highest point, turn around and jump into the water. Swim towards the corner of
the course (the corner that would be directly to your left when you start the
level). There's a large stone hill that juts out of the water's surface, and on top
of that is the cannon. Hop in the cannon and aim yourself to land in the cage in the
exact opposite corner of the level. Aim the cannon to the right, just a little
further right than the tube-like stone structure that's suspended in air. To get the
right height you should aim up so that the same tube-like stone structure is just
barely visible at the bottom of your cannon sights.Dive under water and swim to the
bottom of the pool. There's a huge underground tunnel that you can swim through
which leads to a completely new section of the level. Re-surface to catch your
breath and start the red coin hunt.Head back underwater to reach the floor of the
area directly beneath the tunnel entrance you came through. You'll find a diamond
water switch you need to hit, which completely drains the area of water. Let the
water drain before you go after the first red coin. If you're facing the tunnel
entrance, to your right is a building with another building just right of that. Wall
jump off the wall of the first building to reach the top of the second building—up
top you'll find a red-brick block that you can ground pound to reveal the first red
coin. From this rooftop you can turn around and jump onto the walls that surround the
center of the town area. There are two more red-brick blocks at the tops of those
walls that you can smash to reveal two more red coins. Drop off the wall tops and
run to the corner of the area ahead, directly across from the corner with the tunnel
entrance. At the corner is a small gap between the wall surrounding the town and the
wall of one of the tall buildings. To reach the top of this tall building, perform a
series of wall jumps back and forth until you get to your goal. At the top is
another red-brick block with another red coin, and on the rooftop nearby you'll see
a fifth red-brick block.Drop back down to the floor level and run across to the
other side of the area. There's another tall building next to a tall cage, and the
gap between the cage and that building are small enough that you can wall jump
between them to reach the top. Get to the top and ground pound the red-brick block
to reveal the sixth red coin. Now make your way towards the back of the town, in the
dead-center where you see the steeple. At the base of the steeple is another red-
brick block to smash. The eighth red coin is also nearby, on top of the steeple—wall
jump off the wall behind the steeple to get the last red coin, and collect the gold
power star that appears inside the steeple.

Star Six — Quick Race Through Downtown!
Return to the downtown section of the course the same way as described in Go to Town
for the Red Coins. Once you're there, again lower the water level by hitting the
diamond water switch that's directly beneath the tunnel entrance. After the water
lowers, run straight across the town to the area just right of the steeple (along
the floor level). On your way, grab the Luigi cap (unless you entered the level as
Luigi) and bust open the red box that's right of the steeple to grab the power
flower. Quickly run around the walls that border the center of the town (long jumps
are fast) to reach the corner on the other side of the steeple. While Luigi is
invisible you can run through the mesh wall that's surrounding the golden power
star. Just backflip up to the top of the stone structure within the mesh fencing to
reach the star.

Star Seven — Soaked Silver Stars
Dive into the water at the start and head towards the gray spiraling walkway. Just
under the walkway is the first silver star. Next, hit the diamond water switch
that's directly underneath the spiraling gray walkway ahead, lowering the water to
the absolute minimum. Return to where you started the course and ground pound the
red-brick block nearby to uncover the second silver star.Make your way to the very
top of the tower (use the chuckya's) and then step on the floor switch to create the
steps of bricks that'll let you reach the highest diamond water switch. Touch the
switch to raise the water to the highest level possible. When the water level is up,
turn to face the wall that is on the complete opposite end of the level—jump into
the water and you can collect the two silver stars that are closest to that wall
(they're just under the surface of the water). To get the last silver star you'll
need to jump into the cannon that's nearby. Aim the cannon towards the star (it's on
your map) and you should be able to see it in the distance. You'll need to aim high
so that when you drop you hit the star exactly. Try to keep the top piece of the
stone tube in the very bottom of your view inside the cannon before firing away and
you should have a good shot at nabbing the last silver star.Getting the power star
that appears is a bit tricky in and of itself. Swim out towards it and hop up on the
floating wood platform that's directly below it. If you climb onto the wooden
platfrom from the side that's adjacent to the platform with the star then you'll be
in the perfect position to backflip up to the power star.

Tall, Tall Mountain------------------------------------------------------------------

Star One — Scale the Mountain
Run up the path past the three goombas and long jump over the gaps until you reach
the path that rounds the patch of mushrooms. Continue along the path around the
right side of the mushrooms and you'll soon reach a field covered in mole holes. On
the left side of the wall is a set of platforms jutting out from the mountainside—
you can backflip up the platforms until you reach the level with the goomba wearing
a Luigi cap.Hop onto the area with the goomba and backflip up to the next level (to
the right). and run up the ramp, past the goombas. The slope ends at a waterfall,
though you can long jump over to the other side (the path on the other side is a bit
lower than where you're at now). Continue along the narrow path on the outside of
the mountain and run past the cloud that attempts to blow off your cap.Just around
the corner is a grass field with a bunch of goombas. Continue past the and be
careful on the narrow walkways that follow as you spiral your way up the mountain.
Just around the next corner you'll head up a dirt path that leads to the power star.

Star Two — Mystery of the Monkey Cage
Return to the top of the mountain via the same path described for Scale the Mountain
At the top you'll find a little monkey that's eager to run away from you—to capture
it, chase it against a wall and the monkey will jump up over you. Stand right where
the monkey is about to land and press the attack button to grab the li'l sucker.Let
the monkey go when he asks you to and the follow him as he slowly marches back down
the hill. He'll release a power star from his cage, though the star falls down to
the base of the waterfall. Drop down to the waterfall's end and collect the power
star.

Star Three — Scary 'Shrooms, Red Coins
Run up the hill past the goombas as before, but instead of running around the patch
of mushrooms you must jump across them. The first four red coins can be found at the
tops of these mushrooms. Grab 'em up, and then jump back to the platform that
circles the mushroom patch and head around the corner. The last four red coins are on
the platforms just left of the mole holes. Use backflips to jump from platform to
platform, collecting the coins as you go. The last coin is on a platform that's
beyond the level with the Luigi-capped goomba. Once you get all eight coins, drop
back down to the level with the mole holes and jump over to the mushroom to the
right to collect the power star.

Star Four — Mysterious Mountainside
Make your way towards the top of the mountain as described for Scale the Mountain.
Before reaching the top you'll run into a cloud enemy that's furiously trying to
blow your cap away—just past him you'll see a grouping of coins that seem to lead
into the wall of the mountain. Jump after the coins and you'll go through the wobbly
mountain wall. Here you'll be faced with another slide challenge; make it to the
bottom of the slide and you'll be rewarded with a power star. The slide is
relatively easy, though there are a few parts to watch out for. After going around a
few sharp turns you'll see a giant arrow point to the right as a wooden path veers
in the same direction. Steer onto the wooden path and keep in the center of the
slide as you make your way across this section without walls. Just beyond that, the
path enters a tunnel and starts to turn left at the end. Make sure you huge the
right side of the slide as it exits the tunnel to avoid falling off the left side of
the slide, and continue around to the end. Drop into the hole at the end of the
slide and you'll appear outside the mountain, with the star waiting for you.

Star Five — Blast to the Lonely Mushroom
Start making your way up the mountain, as per usual, but when you reach the area
with the gopher holes stay on the main path (i.e. don't jump up the platforms to the
left). Just past the gopher holes is an area with a few bob-ombs, and past them is a
giant round enemy. Pass the big enemy and cross over the very narrow bridge of land.
At the next platform, drop down to find a bob-omb buddy that'll ready a cannon for
you. With the cannon ready, drop straight down into the water below and run up the
path past the goombas again. Once you reach the patch of mushrooms, look for the two
smallest mushrooms of the bunch and jump onto the one that's higher than the other.
If you stand there for a second you'll be whisked away to a secret walkway, at the
end of which is the cannon.Jump in the cannon and aim towards the golden power star
(you can see it on your map). The star is sitting directly atop the mushroom that's
just slightly to the left (and down quite a bit). Center the mushroom top in your
sights and aim upwards so that the mushroom top is completely (but barely) visible
in the sights of the cannon. Fire away and you'll fly towards the mushroom, hitting
the power star in mid-flight.

Star Six — 5 Secrets of the Mountain
Make your way back to the top of the mountain with Mario, as described for Scale the
Mountain. At the top is a red box with a power flower—grab it as Mario to get the
wing cap. There are five rings of coins around the tip of the mountain. You need to
fly through the centers of each ring—collecting the center coin in the process—in
order to make the power star appear. To take off, simple triple jump from the same
platform with the power flower box and you'll have plenty of height to reach the
coin rings. If you start to lose altitude, return to the top of the mountain and
grab another wing cap.Once you've collected all of the center coins, the power star
appears at the top of the mountain. Just land and grab it!

Star Seven — Breathtaking View from the Bridge
Enter the course as Wario and make your way towards the top of the mountain as
described for Scale the Mountain. Just before you reach the top you'll cross a
narrow part of the course that goes out and around a waterfall that's on the left.
After crossing this narrow path, turn around and drop onto the wooden walkway that's
below (to the right if you turned around 180 degrees), right next to the waterfall.
Walk down the path and turn right to enter a small alcove under the waterfall and
break open the black-brick block inside to reveal the golden power star.

Tiny-Huge Island---------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: There are three paintings in the hall with this course. The center painting
leads to nowhere, but jumping through either the left or right paintings will decide
how big you are when you enter the course. If you jump through the painting to the
left you will be huge when you enter the level. If you jump into the painting to the
right, you'll enter the level tiny.

Star One — Pluck the Piranha Flower
Enter the level through the painting to the left so that you start out huge.
Immediately turn left and jump across a couple of bits of water before reaching a
tall ledge to jump up to. Once on top of that ledge (you can only reach it while
you're big), drop into the green pipe and you'll pop back out, smaller than you were
before. As you walk around the platform with the green pipe, piranha plants will pop
up and shoot fire balls your way. Before they get off a shot, punch 'em to take him
out (just one punch is enough). Continue moving around the platform to get more
piranha plants to pop up—after you've defeated five of them, a power star will
appear for you to grab.

Star Two — The Tip Top of the Huge Island
Step through the painting to the right to enter the level in tiny mode. On the
platform with the large goombas is a small hole in the wall that you can pass
through. Run through it and swim across the bit of water (past the sandy hill to
your left) to reach a grassy hill. Run up the hill, past another giant goomba, until
you reach an area with grassy platforms.Long jump over to the first platform. The
second platform is further away, but you can simply jump over the gap to have a gust
of wind carry you over to the platform along the mountain wall. Cross over the
narrow lip to another grassy platform and turn left to run down a bridge with a gust
of wind trying to push you off. Fight the wind and jump up the grassy steps. At the
top of the steps you'll see large rolling balls come tumbling towards you. Dodge the
balls, and as your round the lefthand corner turn left instead of walking past the
hole from which the iron balls are falling. At the top of the hill is a green pipe,
and to the right is a hill that leads up to a ledge with a giant ball-shaped enemy.
Before jumping onto the ledge with this giant baddie, lure him towards one side of
the platform he's on and then quickly run to the other side to backflip up and run
past him.Just up the hill is a yellow "!" box. Jump up to break it, revealing the
golden power star.

Star Three — Rematch with Koopa the Quick
Enter the course through the painting to the right (as Mario), and begin making your
way up the mountain as described for The Tip Top of the Huge Island. When you reach
the area with the large rolling balls, run past the source of the balls (instead of
turning left). Just past them is a hill lined with coins, and around the corner are
two large goombas...and Koopa the Quick.Talk to Koopa and he'll challenge you to
another race. As soon as he says go, turn left to run back towards the rolling iron
balls. Use long jumps to get an early lead on Koopa and turn the corner to chase the
iron balls down hill. Run across the bridge with the wind blowing against you and as
you reach the landing at the end turn left. On the left side of the green pipe is a
flag you've got to touch before Koopa in order to win the race, and the power star.

Star Four — Klepto the Condor
Enter the level through the painting to the left to enter the level huge. You need
to get near the top of the mountain, and there's a handy shortcut you can take since
you're so big. Turn left and jump onto the first platform past the water. Climb up
the tree to the top and perform a handstand—from this position you can jump forward
to the platform above. From there, hop up a couple of the small steps ahead and wait
for the flying condor to come near you (you can see the star moving around on your
map). When the condor is flying overhead, simply jump straight up into the bird and
you'll knock the star from his talons.Nearby there should be a Luigi cap you can
grab. Transform into Luigi and walk down the walkway to the left, right to the tip
of the ledge where the iron balls make their turn downhill. From there you can
perform a backflip (with your back to the ocean) and use Luigi's floating ability to
reach the small island that's floating out in the middle of nowhere. The power star
is there for the taking.

Star Five — Wiggler's Red Coins
Enter the course through the painting to the right. Start by heading through the
hole in the wall to reach the water with the steep beach to the left. Run up the
beach and take the koopa shell from the mini-koopa and use the shell to ride up the
wall on the right side of the beach. If you stop moving upwards try jumping a bit to
build up your momentum again, and once you reach the top of the hill jump off the
koopa shell (by pressing the crouch button). To the left you'll see a very narrow
walkway that leads to a cave in the side of the island mountain. Be careful when
traversing the walkway and enter the cave. All eight coins can be found on the steps
of the cave, so just hop around counter-clockwise to collect them all. The hardest
coin to get is one that's atop a very small, tall platform—if you came in as Mario,
you can grab the power flower from the nearby red box and float up to it. When
you've got all eight coins the power star appears inside the cave.

Star Six — Make Wiggler Squirm
Hop through the painting to the left and enter the course as huge Mario. Again, use
the tree just left of where you start to jump up to the level above. Once up there,
turn left to run past the source of the rolling balls and turn right around it to
continue to the top of the mountain. Ground pound the pool of water up top and
you'll empty out the water. With the pool of water gone and only a small hole left,
return to the source of the rolling balls and hop into the green pipe, transforming
to a tiny Mario. Run back up the hill to the top and you can now drop into the hole
you created that drained the pool. After Wiggler talks to you a bit, drop down to his
level and ground pound his head. You need to ground pound his head a total of three
times, and each time you do he gets faster and more aggressive. The easiest way to
get him is to run away from him and then stand still, letting him come to you. Time
your jump and your ground pound so that you come down on his head right as he moves
under you. It's not too hard to nail him, and once you get him three times he'll
cough up the power star.

Star Seven — Switch Star on the Island
As Mario, jump into the painting to the right and return to the cave as described
for Wiggler's Red Coins. When you reach the cave, hop from rock to rock, going
counter-clockwise around the room until you reach the platform with the star switch
on the ground.Step on the star switch and quickly break open the red box nearby to
grab the power flower. Mario will inflate, allowing you to float (slowly) over to
the power star that's to your right. You should have plenty of time to get to the
star, though you don't want your power flower to lose air while you're floating over
the abyss.

Tick Tock Clock----------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: You can affect the level depending on what time the clock is showing when you
step into the course. As the minute hand moves around the clock the level gets
faster and faster—if you enter the level with the minute hand pointing to 12
everything will be frozen in place, but if you enter the course with the minute hand
at 6 then things will be moving quite quickly. In most instances, it's easiest to
enter the level with the minute hand pointing to 12.

Star One — Luigi in the Cage
Enter the level as Luigi and run forward, past the first pendulum, following the
walkway of platforms around the room (going counter-clockwise). Eventually you'll
reach a pole that's being circled by an electric amp enemy—climb up the pole and
jump up the platforms that start going clockwise (you'll need a backflip to reach
the third platform). From the third level above the pole, turn right and jump towards
the mesh platform under the number 12 that's on the wall. There's a red box with a
power flower that you need to grab. Once you've turned invisible, Luigi will drop
through the mesh platform you're on and continue to drop until you reach the area
with the golden power star.

Star Two — The Pendulum Switch Star
Follow the path ahead of you and continue around it, going counter-clockwise as you
move higher in the clock. When you reach the top of the pole that's being circled by
the amp, continue left, past a chuckya enemy, and you'll find a star switch on the
ground.Very quickly continue running counter-clockwise past a couple of goombas.
Jump over a few platforms and you'll see the power star very nearby.

Star Three — Get a Hand
Enter the course as Luigi and again start making your way up the path that goes
counter-clockwise around the course. Before you reach the pole with the amp you'll
land on a large mesh platfrom with a huge clock hand pointing towards the 6 on the
wall. Walk to the tail end of the clock hand (the end that's at the center of the
room) and turn your back to the number 12 on the wall across from you. Perform a
backflip and Luigi will be able to float over to the power star that's sitting in an
alcove just above the number 12.

Star Four — Stomp on the Thwomp
Unlike the previous stars, this star is only attainable if the inner workings of the
clock are actually moving. Instead of entering the level with the minute hand
pointing to 12, try to time it closer to 3—things will be moving slowly enough that
nothing will be too hard.Start running counter-clockwise around the room as per
usual, though you'll have to contend with some obstacles now that the level is
moving. Make your way to the pole being guarded by an amp and reach the top.
Directly above the pole is a platform that's moving up and down. Hop on the platform
and ride it up to another, and finally to a striped platform that's next to the
number 9.From here you can jump onto the rotating blocks to go up another level (a
backflip will get you up quickly to avoid the rotation). Once you're up top,
continue counter-clockwise (you'll run past a Wario cap), running past a set of
jutting blocks to reach a platform under the number 6. Jump onto the conveyor belt
that's to your left and continue making your way further up into the clock.
Eventually you'll reach a platform with a spinning clock hand. Wait for it to come
near you and jump onto it, letting it carry you over to the number 12 written on the
wall. Jump off onto the conveyor belt above the number 12 and wait for the Thwomp at
the end to slam down on the ground. Jump on top of the Thwomp and it'll carry you to
the power star.

Star Five — Timed Jumps on Moving Bars
Enter the level as Luigi, and despite what the title may suggest you don't have to
let the objects inside move. Make your way counter-clockwise around the room again
to return to the pole with the circling amp. Climb to the top of the pole and jump
onto the platforms that'll lead you clockwise (to the right). Hop up the large
blocks until you can grab the Wario cap (you need it) and double back, heading right
again.Drop down to the mesh platform below and you can now break the black-brick
block that's blocking the hole to the cage. With the hole open you can simply walk
in to grab the power star.

Star Six — Stop Time for Red Coins
As you enter the level, turn left and walk down to the mesh platform you see. There
are a bunch of platforms that are on central pivots, and atop these platforms is
where you'll find the eight red coins. Hop up the platforms to collect them all
(they're all easily visible) and then drop back down to the level where you started
the course to claim the golden power star.

Star Seven — Tick Tock Silver Stars
Perhaps you've heard the phrase, "If you build it, they will come." Luckily for this
power star you can get away with doing even less—if you simply stand on the platform
you start on, the five silver stars will eventually bounce towards you.The stars
have a tendency to gravitate towards you as they bounce around, so if they get stuck
on an object somewhere within the clock you can move a little to "pull" them around
whatever they're stuck on (even if you can't see what's stopping them, simply moving
somewhere else often does the trick). Once you've collected all five silver stars,
the golden power star appears. To get to the power star from where you begin the
level, again head counter-clockwise around the course until you reach the pole
that's being circled by an amp. Get to the top of the pole and jump up the platforms
to the right. Once you reach the top platform (the one that's just above the number
9), head counter-clockwise across the next walkway until you reach the power star.

Rainbow Ride-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Star One — Cruiser Crossing the Rainbow
Enter the level as Wario and jump onto the carpet ahead of you. The carpet will ride
along the rainbow path, and you'll have to jump and dodge the many obstacles in your
way. However, if you stay off of the carpet for long enough it'll disappear, forcing
you to start the ride over. You can jump over the first obstacle easily, though
getting past the flame ahead is a bit trickier. Wait for the carpet to near the
platform with the spinning amp and jump onto the platform. Allow the carpet to pass
under the flame and then quickly jump back onto the carpet before it disappears.
Continue the ride up to the end of the rainbow path and jump onto the solid platform
ahead.Next, jump onto the large rotating platforms and jump to the next one on your
right. There's another carpet to ride on at the end of the platform—hop on it, and
dodge the next couple of obstacles. Eventually the carpet will reach the end of the
rainbow path, and there are two carpets to jump to. Jump onto the carpet to the left
(left, assuming you're facing the same direction the second carpet is moving) and
ride it further upwards. As the rainbow path spirals upwards you'll have to dodge two
spinning platforms that almost look like propellers. You can stay underneath them
most of the times they pass you (ducking helps) but you'll have to jump over one of
the platforms before the rainbow path leads away. Just ahead are a couple of small
blocks to jump over (placed close together) and after that is a platform made of
four wooden blocks. Jump on the platform but don't hang out there; the wooden blocks
fall eventually, forcing you to jump up to the platform to the left. From here you
can now walk onto the deck of the ship. Walk to the back of the ship and you'll find
a red box with a power flower. Grab the flower to turn Wario into metal, and then
force your way back to the front of the boat, pushing through the wind. At the very
tip of the bow is the power star, ready for the taking.

Star Two — The Big House in the Sky
Ride the carpets along the rainbow path the same way as described for Cruiser
Crossing the Rainbow. When you reach the end of one rainbow path with two more at
the end, take the carpet ride to the right this time.Jump over the first clear block
and continue the ride into the giant building that's floating in mid air. Once
inside the building, drop off the carpet. If you're not already Mario, there's a
Mario cap nearby you can grab. Break open the red box inside the house to reveal a
power flower that inflates Mario. Use the power flower to float up through the hole
in the ceiling (follow the rainbow path that goes straight up). At the top of the
house you'll find the golden power star.

Star Three — Coins Amassed in a Maze
Enter the level as either Luigi or Mario. Instead of jumping onto the carpet, turn
around and you'll see a long pole and a whole new set of platforms to the left. Run
and long jump to reach this set of platforms and the climb the pole to the very
top.Jump off the pole and jump onto the large spinning disc platforms ahead. To the
left you'll see an open-air maze. Jump to it and make your way around the maze to
collect all eight red coins—you can use either Mario's wall kick jumps or Luigi's
spinning backflip to reach each of the coins, and then drop back down to the base
level to collect the power star that appears.

Star Four — Swingin' in the Breeze
Again, instead of running for the carpet, turn around and long jump out to the
platform behind you. You don't need to climb the pole this time—run the other way,
down the steps, and jump onto the teetering stone walkway. Stand at the end of the
walkway to tilt it upwards, allowing you jump up and reach the next level. Hop on
the swinging platform to cross the large gap.once you've crossed the gap, you'll
have to run across a set of blocks that'll fall out from under you if you stand
still for too long. Quickly run across the first set and jump up to a second set of
falling blocks. When you reach the second set, immediately duck and perform a
backflip to reach the platform above and then run and jump onto a second teetering
stone walkway. The next platform you can jump to is solid (the one with the fire
breath), though just beyond is another set of falling blocks. Wait for the sliding
platform ahead to get near you before jumping onto the falling blocks, and then
quickly hop onto the sliding platform. After jumping off the sliding platform, the
path forks off. Turn left to run up the steep hill with the steps (and goomba) and
then turn left at the top of the hill. Ride another swinging platform across another
gap and jump off at the end while avoiding the flame breath. Just ahead is the
golden power star.

Star Five — Tricky Triangles!
Follow the directions for Swingin' in the Breeze up until the point where you reach
the branch in the path, at which is a path to the left that leads up a steep hill
with steps. Instead of heading up the hill past the goomba, take the path to the
right. Quickly run and jump across the platfroms, going over the triangular stone,
and jumping past the fire breath. Once you reach a solid platform again you'll see a
red floor switch on the ground. When you step on the red floor switch, the mini-
pyramids in front of you will flip over, serving as miniature platforms to jump
onto. You need to be very quick once you hit the switch, jumping from platform to
platform until you can get to the solid ledge above you. Once you get there you'll
find the golden power star.

Star Six — Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Enter the level as Mario and get to the maze as described for Coins Amassed in a
Maze. Run to the very back of the maze (left side) to where there's a blue coin
switch. If you look above you can see a very tall vertical passage that you can get
to only by wall jumping. With your back to the wall on the right, perform a backflip
to start the ascent and start wall jumping immediately. You'll be able to reach the
top, where you'll find a bob-omb buddy that'll ready a cannon for you.Walk to the
end of the stone path you're on and ride the yellow platform back down. Jump over to
the spinning disc platforms and turn left to reach the carp rainbow path. Hop on the
carpet and ride it as you did for Cruiser Crossing the Rainbow, jumping onto the
next carpet to the left (not the one on the right) as you reach the first carpet's
end. Ride this carpet up the spiral and jump off at the end to follow some platforms
to the floating ship.At the back of the ship is the cannon that the bob-omb readied
for you. Hop in it and if you aim just a little lower you'll see a pole framed by a
circular rainbow. Center the pole in your sights and keep the very bottom of the
rainbow just barely visible at the bottom of the screen (your crosshairs should
almost be centered on the sun behind the rainbow). Fire away and Mario should land
stick to the pole. Drop down and quickly break open the yellow "!" box (while
avoiding the large enemy) to collect the golden power star.

Star Seven — Switch Star of the Manor
Enter the course as Mario and return to the big house the same way you did for The
Big House in the Sky. When you drop off the carpet inside the house, go through the
doorway to the left and drop onto the wooden walkway. At the end of the walkway is a
star switch on the floor—step on it and then quickly run back into the manor. Break
open the red box to release a power flower and use Mario's floating ability to float
up through the hole in the ceiling. If you get there before the time runs out, the
star will be waiting for you to claim.

Secret Stars-------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. In the room where the painting for Jolly Roger Bay is, jump to a high
ledge on the right side (facing the painting). You'll enter an underwater
area; swim around and collect the 8 red coins for this star.

2. In the character switch room, jump into the southeast stain glass window
of Peach to reach the Princess's Secret Slide. Simply slide down to the
bottom and hit the yellow box for a Power Star.

3. Replay the Princess's Secret Slide and get a faster time than 21 seconds
   to get a second star.

4. In the Goomboss Battle area, collect the 8 Red Coins to win a Star (see
that section in the walkthrough for the locations of these coins).

5. In the Goomboss Battle stage, after you go down the slide, head to the
right. You'll find a hill you can go up, then on the long platform, a star
switch. Step on it to make a star appear atop a cage. Run to where it's
located on the map, then wall jump (yes, you need Mario for this one) to
the top. Once there, walk over to the Power Star to get it.

6. In the Wing Cap stage, simply collect all 8 Red Coins (pretty easy to do,
   look in the walkthrough).

7. In Bowser in the Dark World, when you get to the end by the pipe, you'll
spot a star switch. Hit it to make a star appear on a platform above the
tilting platforms before the hill. Go back down and tilt on one end of the
platform to make the other side rise, then quickly jump up from it to the
higher ledge (if you have Yoshi, just flutter jump from the base of the
hill to the first platform, then flutter jump from there). Either way, the
star is on the last ledge for you to get.

8. In the Bowser in the Dark World area, collect all 8 Red Coins for a star.

9. In the Rec Room, jump into the painting of the Sunshine Isles. There,
collect the 5 silver stars to get another secret Power Star.

10. In the courtyard where you enter Big Boo's Haunt, you'll find several
smaller Boos. Defeat each of them to get a red coin; collect all 8 for a
    star.

11. In the castle's courtyard, break the blocks to the right and drop into
the hole to reach the Battle Fort. Collect the 5 silver stars there to
    get a secret star.

12. In the Big Boo Battle, collect the 8 Red Coins to get a Power Star (the
locations are in the walkthrough for that area).

13. Go to the Big Boo Battle as Luigi. In the third room, hit the red box and
make him invisible. Now, quickly jump/flutter through the next room to
reach the final chamber. Run across the bridge and jump into the ghost
painting to run into a hidden star!

14. In the Hazy Maze Cave as Mario, get to the underground lake. Ride the
Nessie to the door on the ledge you can't reach by swimming. In there,
drop into the portal to reach the area Behind the Waterfall. Jump across
the ledges to the last one (it's the one with 2 red coins on it). Use the
flower from the red box to invoke Mario's floating ability. Then, simply
fly straight up to this hidden star.

15. In the Behind the Waterfall area again (see the previous listing here for
details), collect the 8 red coins (use Wario and hit the red box to get
his metal power) to get this star.

16. In the room where the portal to Hazy Maze Cave is located, there is a
Toad. Talk to him to receive a Power Star.

17. In the Bowser in the Fire Sea stage, collect the 8 Red Coins to get a
Power Star (check the walkthrough for details on that).

18. In Bowser in the Fire Sea, you must find a star switch. I highly
recommend you use Luigi for this one. It's on a high ledge above the
sinking/rising poles in the end area. Hit it, then jump to the other high
ledge up here. Backflip and copter across the lava area below, and break
the glass ball to obtain your Power Star!

19. In the mirror room on the second floor, enter as Luigi. Take a flower and
walk through the mirror. Enter the door at the opposite end of the room.
You will end up in an empty room with the Power Star sitting right there.

20. In the Chief Chilly Challenge, collect all 8 Red Coins to make this star
    appear.

21. In the Chief Chilly Challenge stage, pick up the Wario cap when you find
it. At the path split, hit the red box to become metal, then take the
narrow path to the left past the wind gusts. Break the black block to get
    this star.

22. Talk to the Toad standing directly across from the Tall, Tall Mountain
painting and he will give up this Power Star.

23. As Wario, go outside of the castle to the drained moat, and break the
black block by the waterfall. Drop into the hole to reach the Secret
Under the Moat. There, collect 8 red coins (4 are on ledges along the
steep wall, 3 are in the air by the moving platforms, and the last is by
the cage at the end). Get them all and the Power Star will appear inside
the cage. Use the Luigi cap and the Power Flower from the box to get it.

24. In the Secret Under the Moat area again, get the Mario cap and hit the
red box at the bottom of the hill. Float across the gap to the southwest
ledge. Hit the star switch there, then hit the red box and take the Power
Flower inside. Start floating upward along the coin path, constantly
tapping B to go faster. At the first ledge you reach, run to the right
and hit the second red box for another flower. Repeat this to reach the
top ledge, where you'll break the glass ball for a star.

25. Talk to the Toad on the third floor, to the right of Tick Tock Clock, and
he will hand you another Power Star.

26. On the third floor, jump to the high ledge on the right side of the room.
Drop into the hole as Mario to reach the Over the Rainbows hidden area.
Take the first red coin and hit the red box for a Feather. Triple jump to
launch, then fly to the different platforms (look at your map to keep
track) and collect the other 7 Red Coins. Note that for some of them, you
will have to land and use the cannons mounted on a couple of the clouds
to reach them (i.e. the one floating within the poles below one large
cloud, the small cloud below that, and the top of that large cloud). When
you eventually uncover all 8 coins, the star will appear on the large
middle cloud, so fly over to get it.

27. In the Over the Rainbows secret area again, fly to the larger pink
platform with the red Bob-omb on it. Talk to the bomb and he will prepare
the cannons for you. Now, take the Wario hat and jump into the cannon.
Look around and you'll find a cloud near you with a tree on it. Line up
the sights with that tree, and aim a bit above it, then shoot. With luck
you'll grab onto the tree safely, then all you have to do is break the
black box to retrieve this star.

28. After you catch all of the glowing rabbits, you will receive the key for
the final door in the character switch room. Open it to receive this
    elusive Power Star.

29. In Bowser in the Sky, drop the lower platform below the first set of
rotating ledges (it's after the first piranha plant you meet). Hit the
star switch to make a star appear. Now, run the length of this platform
and hop up the ledges to the platform before the tilting one. Run past
the piranha plant and hop onto the spinning platform, then break the
    glass ball for the star.

30. In Bowser in the Sky, collect all 8 Red Coins (see the walkthrough for
directions) to get this Power Star.

Well, that's all the Power Stars! Now the only thing to do is play the minigames,
start a new file, or go to the top of the castle using the cannon you just unlocked
to recieve 99 1-ups and the last of Luigi's rabbits!
