II.  Prologue

(Taken directly from instruction manual.)

Outer Heaven Revolt (1995)
A small, but powerfully armed nation called "Outer Heaven" emerges from
deep within South Africa. NATO learns that they are designing a nuclear-
equipped walking battle tank called "Metal Gear", and they send in one of
their best agents, Gray Fox. But, he is taken hostage, and they are
forced to send in the newest member of Fox Hound, Solid Snake. He rescues
Gray Fox and forces the surrender of Outer Heaven. As Solid Snake
escapes, he is confronted by one man. It's FOX-HOUND's commander, Big
Boss! It seems that Outer Heaven was a mercenary company and Big Boss was
the mastermind behind it. Big Boss had intentionally chosen his most
inexperienced agent, Solid Snake, thinking he would fall, but he seriously
miscalculated. After a fierce battle, Snake defeats Big Boss as Outer
Heaven burns around him.

Zanzibar Riot (1999)
In 1999, Dr. Kio Marv, inventor of the oil refining microbe, OILIX, was
taken hostage by Zanzibar, a heavily armed nation in central Asia ruled by
a minority ethnic group. Zanzibar was planning to gain political and
military hegemony over a wold suffering under the cruel weight of a
worldwide energy crisis. Roy Campbell, commander of Fox Hound, called
Solid Snake, now in retirement, back to active duty to infiltrate Zanzibar
and recover Dr. Marv.
Solid Snake made it past Zanzibar's impressive steel wall and penetrated
deep into its interior. Once inside he destroyed Metal Gear, which had
been completed after being transported from Outer Heaven, and defeated
Gray Fox, former member of Fox Hound and now leader of the Zanzibar
mercenary corps. He was also successful in tetrieving the OILIX
manufacturing process. Finally, he would once again meet his destiny with
the man who was pulling the strings in Zanzibar, Big Boss! He had survived
Outer Heaven and created Zanzibar in order to make a world rife with
conflict and war, a world in which soldires such as himself would always
have a place. After defeating Big Boss for the second and final time,
Snake gave up on war and retired to the peaceful Alaskan wilderness.
From "Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake"

The Dawn of the New Millenium the 21st Century...
The nuclear weapons disposal facility on Shadow Moses Island in Alaska's
Fox Archipelago is attacked and captured by Next Generation Special Forces
led by members of FOX-HOUND.
The terrorists have secured hundreds of nuclear warheads and they're
demanding that the government turn over the remains of Big Boss. they
warn that if their demands are not met within 24 hours, they'll launch a
nuclear weapon.
Solid Snake is once again called back to duty in a top-secret mission to
deal with the greatest terrorist threat the world has ever seen.
First, he must single-handedly infiltrate the nuclear weapons disposal
site and rescue two hostages, DARPA Chief Donald Anderson and the
President of ArmsTech, Kennith Baker, and then eliminate the terrorist
threat and prevent a nuclear launch. The clock is ticking. Once again,
Snake heads into battle... alone.

VI.  Walkthrough

Okay a little bit to say here first. My guide will not be the oldest one
on the internet, and it probably won't be the best (for that I highly
recommend the one written by Nemesis). The main reason I wrote this guide
is that I just wanted to write a guide for it. Now I will tend to give
directions in the North, South, East, West, etc. The way to tell the
directions is to go by the map on the screen. There will be times when
the radar cannot be used, in that case just look at where the radar would
be. I will cover how to obtain items, bosses, weapons, etc. I will not
tell you where to get ammo, as that is all over the place, and it is up to
you to maintain your ammo. This guide is written with the game on EASY
setting so that you will get the basic feel for the game and can move up
from there. The higher difficulties have more enemies and traps. Most
importantly, have fun with this great game.

==========================================================================
Dock
==========================================================================
From your starting point, get back into the water and to the west of the
stairs you will find a RATION. Now get back on land and go to the west
wall. Crawl under the pipe and then hide up against the wall. Wait for
the soldier to come close and then follow him back to the north end of the
room. From the north end wait for the soldier to begin to walk south
again, don't worry he won't see you if you are up against the north wall,
and then make your way to the northeast corner where the forklift is.
Get behind the forklift and wait there until a third soldier comes down
in the elevator. You will also find a RATION by the forklift. Once the
third soldier walks away from the elevator slip in and you will be taken
to the helipad area.

==========================================================================
Helipad
==========================================================================
After an extremely long conversation time, you finally get control of
Snake again. Walk north to the helipad and wait until the lights are
moving inwards then run to the west exit to the helipad. Now wait until
the lights are separating again and run forward in the center of the
helipad and get the CHAFF GRENADES. Now from there head due west and you
will find a small room with a camera in it. Use a CHAFF GRENADE to
disable the camera and then run into the room to get some STUN GRENADES.
Now run up and go north avoiding the soldiers and enter the westmost truck
via the back (press action to enter), inside you will find your best
friend, the SOCOM. Now exit the truck and you can enter the Tank Hangar
from 2 different ways. You can either find the vent on the ground level
of the hangar, or you can go up the stairs to the second floor. I always
go to the second floor. So as you are moving east, hug the wall
especially as you near the camera. Now below every camera is a blind spot
and it is directly below each camera. Get under the camera and wait for
it to be pointing the opposite direction and then run up the stairs. Be
careful of the soldier on the top floor and then head west on the top and
you will find the vent. Press action to enter.

==========================================================================
Tank Hangar Vent
==========================================================================
There is nothing confusing about the vent here. Just crawl along to the
exit. At the exit drop down into the top of the Tank Hangar.

==========================================================================
Tank Hangar
==========================================================================
As soon as you get down to the upper level, you will see a room to the
east with a camera in the corner of the main area. Go past that for now
because you can't get inside. However, do enter the room past that. In
there you will get the THERMAL GOGGLES you have to avoid a camera to do
it but it is worth it. Now back out into the main area, go to the west
side of the room and you will notice a room over here as well, but you
can't go in. Going past the room there is a camera on the wall. Go past
the camera and then down the stairs to the main floor. If you took the
ground entrance, this is the level you will enter at. If you have not
gotten the THERMAL GOGGLES yet, go and get them now. You will not be able
to get them later. Once you are on the ground floor, head to the center
of the north wall and press the button beside the elevator. Get in and
press the button for B1.

==========================================================================
B1 Cell
==========================================================================
Go to the southeast corner of the area and climb the stairs to get into
the vent. There are no enemies, yet...

==========================================================================
B1 Cell Vent
==========================================================================
Very soon after you start you will see an opening to the left. Take it
and at the end you will find some ammo. Now look into the grates below
and you find a crappy joke below. Okay bad pun. Now back in the main
vent area just continue to the end looking into the grates below you.
Soon you will find the DARPA Chief.

==========================================================================
B1 Cell
==========================================================================
You start in the DARPA Chief's cell and you have to wait until the girl in
the other cell lets you out. You also have CARD 1 now. Now you will be
attacked by many enemies. After the first wave of them get into the north
corner of the area and shoot them as they enter. This will benefit you
especially when they toss in the bombs. When they are all dead you can go
back to the elevator and B2.

==========================================================================
B2 Armory
==========================================================================
Activate your CARD 1 and enter what doors you can in here. You will soon
find some C4 in the center north room. Now to use that C4. Find the 3
gray areas in the room. 1 is in the southwest corner, northeast side of
the elevator, northwest side of the elevator. After it is all set, blow
it all. The north rooms will have items in them. Now proceed through the
south exit.

==========================================================================
B2 Armory South
==========================================================================
Along the east wall near the end you will find another C4 spot. Now enter
this new area. At the end there are 2 C4 spots. The one to the east has
some CHAFF GRENADES. Enter the one to the north and equip your SOCOM.

==========================================================================
Boss Battle:  Revolver Ocelot
==========================================================================
This guy is cake. Make sure that you don't touch any of the trip wires
surrounding the old guy and stay to one side of the arena. Keep running
north and south with Ocelot and shoot him when you can. The best time to
shoot him is when he is reloading his gun. After a few shots the battle
is over. Once Ocelot is gone, Kenneth Baker is free and gives you a LEVEL
2 CARD. Your health also goes up. Now go back to the Armory.

==========================================================================
Armory
==========================================================================
Enter the southeast room in the Armory and equip your THERMAL GOGGLES and
get the FA-MAS and ammo. Now head up to the main floor.

==========================================================================
Tank Hangar
==========================================================================
On the ground floor enter the room to the east and get the
SOCOM SUPPRESSER. Now head up the stairs and enter the west room. Inside
is CARDBOARD BOX A. Now it's time to head to the west room you couldn't
enter earlier. Make sure to kill the soldier up here with the SOCOM now
that you have the SUPPRESSER. In the room you will find the MINE DETECTOR
that you will have to use in a couple of minutes. Now go back downstairs
and into the small north corridor to the east of the elevator. Equip your
THERMAL GOGGLES now! You will have to go past several laser beams without
touching them. If you do, you are dead. At the northern end of that area
equip your LEVEL 2 CARD and go outside.

==========================================================================
Canyon
==========================================================================
In the Canyon, equip the MINE DETECTOR and then crawl up to the green
cones on the radar and get the CLAYMORES. Now go north some more and you
will get into another boss battle.

==========================================================================
Boss Battle:  Tank
==========================================================================
Use the CHAFF GRENADES to blind the tank for the most part and then run
around it throwing GRENADES on the upper turret. After a few hits the
battle is done and you get the LEVEL 3 CARD.

==========================================================================
Armory
==========================================================================
Yes, you read right. And on the way back into the Tank Hangar, be sure to
equip your THERMAL GOGGLES again. Head back to the B2 Armory. Enter the
eastern room in the upper row of them and you will get the NAKITA. Just
do this now to save some time.

==========================================================================
Nuke Building
==========================================================================
You enter on the gound floor (duh!) so head up the small walkway on the
west side of the room and get the RATION there. Now go down and crawl
under the half open door to the north. On the other side of this door,
avoid the patroling soldier and run up the stairs on the west wall. At
the top of the stairs be wary of another soldier and enter the elevator.
Go to B2 first.

==========================================================================
Nuke Building B2
==========================================================================
Go into the south room with the electrified floor and gas and use the
NAKITA to destroy the sentry guns to the west. Now go back up into the
north room where the air is clear and look through the window to the west.
See that generator? That is your target. Also the NAKITA MISSLES are
much easier to control if you use first person view. So shoot a missile
and pilot it through the western area and take out the generator to the
electric floor. Now it is safe to walk on the floor here. Go back up to
the open area for some more air now. After your O2 guage is back to full,
go back into the large area. In the hallway ahead of you enter the third
door down and to the right. Toss a CHAFF GRENADE and get the GAS MASK.
Now head over and explore the west side of the area. Once you are done
exploring over there, head completely east and then follow that north. At
the far end of the north area you will enter your third boss battle.

==========================================================================
Boss Battle:  Ninja
==========================================================================
Do not use any guns in this battle. Punch and kick him til he craps
himself. Figuratively speaking of course. Just wait until he attacks and
move out of the way and counterattack. After a while he will start
jumping to completely different areas of the arena. Then after he takes
more damage, he will start using his camoflauge. Use your THERMAL GOGGLES
to counter that. Keep doing this until he dies. Just before he dies, he
will start emitting electrical surges, be very careful. Some people say
to use the FA-MAS when this begins to happen, it's your call chief. You
get the LEVEL 4 CARD after the battle and meet a sidekick. Now go up to
B1.

==========================================================================
Nuke Building B1
==========================================================================
Enter the large room to the south and find Meryl. You can't miss her due
to the way she shakes her butt. Let her see you and she will run off to
the women's restroom to the east of the elevator. Inside talk to her and
you are ready to continue, she will also give you the LEVEL 5 CARD.
However I recommend exploring the small rooms in the south room first. In
the southwest room you find some DIAZEPAM, and NIGHTVISION GOGGLES. You
need the DIAZEPAM for later. In the northwest room you find
CARDBOARD BOX B. That is pretty much all the new stuff you find in this
area. Now head north with Meryl to the Commander's Room.

==========================================================================
Commander's Room
==========================================================================
This is a very nice looking room. Walk around and then another boss
battle will begin.

==========================================================================
Boss Battle:  Psycho Mantis
==========================================================================
First he will have Meryl attacking you. Do not shoot her! Just punch and
kick her until she is knocked out. While this cutscene takes place, move
your controller into the second controller port and press X. Now Mantis
can't read your mind. Pull out the FA-MAS and shoot him as he flies
around the room telekenetically tossing objects at you. When he is nearly
done he will have Meryl attack you some more. Just knock her out again
and then shoot him some more and the battle will be over.

==========================================================================
Commander's Room
==========================================================================
After Mantis is dead, the exit for this room will be opened. Follow it to
the entrance to the Cave through the door at the end.

==========================================================================
Cave
==========================================================================
Equip your NIGHTVISION GOGGLES and SOCOM and in the main room to the cave,
after you crawl under the arch, and kill the wolves. Follow the path to
the exit on the far east side. In the next room head north and into the
Underground Passage.

==========================================================================
Underground Passage
==========================================================================
Meryl will show you the safe way through the mines here. When you get to
her she is shot by Sniper Wolf. Now if Wolf gets a chance she will shoot
you too. You need to go back to the Armory in the Tank Hangar.

==========================================================================
Armory
==========================================================================
Enter the regular northwest room out of the 6 and inside equip your
THERMAL GOGGLES. Crawl through the laser beams and you will get the PSG1.
Now you are ready for Sniper Wolf.

==========================================================================
Underground Passage
==========================================================================
Before you enter here make sure that you are carrying all of the DIAZEPAM
that you can carry. As soon as you enter the boss battle begins.

==========================================================================
Boss Battle:  Sniper Wolf
==========================================================================
This is a pretty easy battle (at least I think so). Use some of the
DIAZEPAM and then use the PSG1 on Wolf. She will be on the building at
the far end. Shoot her before she shoots you. If you can't see her, look
at the support beams and look for her breath. If she shoots you, get up
by de-equipping the PSG1 and move. Then re-equip it and begin again. Use
more DIAZEPAM when you begin to get shaky once more. That's all there is
to it really.

==========================================================================
Underground Passage
==========================================================================
Now go to the north end of the area and you will find ammo up there.
When you are done, approach the door in the northeast corner and you will
be captured by the baddies. Oops...

==========================================================================
Torture Chamber
==========================================================================
When you regain conciousness, you will be strapped into a torture device.
Revolver Ocelot will run 3 electric charges through you, each longer than
the last. Press O as fast as you can to maintain your stregnth. If you
wish to end the torture, press select. Whether or not you press Select
determines which ending you will get.

==========================================================================
Jail Cell
==========================================================================
In here there is very little to do. Call Otacon. That is pretty much all
you have to do. Now you are just killing time. Have some fun with the
soldier. Pound on the walls and craw under the bed.

==========================================================================
Torture Chamber
==========================================================================
The same as last time only the electric charges are longer. The same
thing with the ending applies here as well.

==========================================================================
Jail Cell
==========================================================================
Wait until the soldier runs off to the bathroom and Otacon will come in.
He will give you some KETSUP, LEVEL 6 CARD, and a HANDKERCHIEF. Lay down
and use the KETSUP before the soldier comes back. Do not move, and when
he comes in to check on you, hop up and break his neck. Leave and go into
the Torture Chamber.

==========================================================================
Torture Chamber
==========================================================================
Go to the east side of the torture device and get your stuff. Immediately
pull up your Item Meny and get rid of the bomb. Now use a CHAFF GRENADE
on the sentry gun and then use your LEVEL 6 CARD to go through the door.

==========================================================================
Comm Tower A
==========================================================================
You have to make your way from B1 Jail of the Tank Hangar to Comm Tower A.
Enter the door at the end of the Underground Passage that you tried to
enter earlier after your battle with Sniper Wolf and proceed around the
corner and into the next room. Do not bother to use any CHAFF GRENADES
because they won't help you here. However, make sure that you grab the
ROPE. After the alarm goes off, run into the large room with the
never-ending stairway. Run to the very top of the building killing any
soldier that you see. At the top climb up the ladder to the top of the
building. Now take the door outside. Along the way to the top of the
building you passed a door that is frozen shut. You will be able to fix
that outside.

==========================================================================
Comm Tower A Roof
==========================================================================
Go out onto the roof and Liquid Snake will be waiting in a helicopter. He
will then proceed to blow things up. Equip the rope and run over to the
Go to the northwest corner of the area and press action over near the
railing. You now have to rappel down the side of the building. Just
listen to the instructions and you will do find.

==========================================================================
Walkway
==========================================================================
When you get down to the walkway, equip the PSG1 and take out the 3
soldiers in the distance. Now use some C4 on the door behind you. Since
the 3 soldiers are dead, run across the walkway and enter Comm Tower B at
the end.

==========================================================================
Comm Tower B
==========================================================================
Once you are inside make sure to grab the STINGER LAUNCHER and ammo. Run
down to the bottom of the tower and you will notice that the stairs at the
bottom are out. Go back up and you will meet Otacon near the elevator
entrance. Go past where he was to the top. Along the way near the top,
you will have to use some CHAFF GRENADES to get past some sentry guns. At
the top go to the roof just like on Tower A.

==========================================================================
Comm Tower B Roof
==========================================================================
Out here there is nothing to do but have a boss battle. Once you are done
with the battle go back inside.

==========================================================================
Boss Battle:  Helicopter
==========================================================================
This is a pretty easy fight. Use the STINGER LAUNCHER to fight this bird.
Just track it with the launcher and when you have a chance to take a shot,
do so. When you hear Liquid yell "Eat this!" or something like that, get
between the door and the small structure in front of it so that the
missiles will not hit you. Just follow this pattern and you will have no
problems.

==========================================================================
Comm Tower B
==========================================================================
Go down to the elevator entrance where you met Otacon earlier and enter
the elevator. Immediately equip the THERMAL GOGGLES and the FA-MAS. You
will find 4 "guests" in the elevator with you. When they are dead the
elevator will open at the bottom floor. Now take and make your way out
into the hall beyond and toss a CHAFF GRENADE and make your way to the
door at the far end, and go outside.

==========================================================================
Snowfield
==========================================================================
This is the arena for your next boss battle. After the fight explore the
surrounding rooms. In the rooms you will need CHAFF GRENADES and the MINE
DETECTOR. When you are done exploring enter the northwest room and
proceed down the stairs in the back. You will also find CARDBOARD BOX C.
Insert disc 2 please.

==========================================================================
Boss Battle:  Sniper Wolf II
==========================================================================
This battle is extremely easy. Run to the small niche in the land to the
east of the door. Now equip your NAKITA and fire at will at Wolf using
First Person View.

==========================================================================
Blast Furnace
==========================================================================
Welcome to disc 2. It's a short one. Kill the first soldier in this area
so that he can't annoy you. Now run over to the west wall where the
machine is moving back and forth. Get up against the wall and carefully
walk across hugging the wall. When the machine is getting close to you,
crouch down and wait until it is passed. Then get up and continue your
journey north. Now head east to the main floor. And you will find a
large door on the north side. Now just south of the door, you will find
another room that is reddish in color. I call this the Hot Spot.
Remember it.

==========================================================================
Cargo Elevator
==========================================================================
Go into the first elevator and press the button on the control panel and
you will go down. On the elevator you will be attacked by 4 soldiers. In
the next room toss a CHAFF GRENADE and run to the other cargo elevator.
Be careful of the CLAYMORES in the area. Again, press the button on the
control panel to go down some more.

==========================================================================
Warehouse
==========================================================================
Remember this area, you will have to come back here soon. As it is you
have a boss battle to attend to.

==========================================================================
Boss Battle:  Vulcan Raven
==========================================================================
This is a pretty fun battle. Run around the arena and you can fight Raven
many different ways. I like to set traps for him myself. I will set a
CLAYMORE or 2 and lure him into them. You can use the NAKITA or STINGER
LAUNCHERS if you wish. Or you can use C4. It doesn't matter as long as
it is explosive. Just don't let him draw a bead on you. Then after he
is dead you get the LEVEL 7 CARD. Use the card to proceed out the door to
the north.

==========================================================================
Warehouse North
==========================================================================
In the room beyond Vulcan Raven toss a CHAFF GRENADE and run through the
room avoiding the sentry guns. About mid way through the room you may
want to toss another CHAFF GRENADE. In this large warehouse you will find
Metal Gear Rex in the far room. Go around to the east of MGR and climb up
the ladders to the top and across MGR. Make your way to the small room on
the opposite side of the room. When you go up to the room, you will hear
Revolver Ocelot and Liquid Snake talking. Then you will lose the PAL CARD
into the water below. Go down to the bottom and track it down. Use the
THERMAL GOGGLES to find the rat that ate it. When you go into the water,
be quick because the water takes your health away. In the water you may
also come across a BOMB or 2. Dispose of these the way you did the one
you got earlier. Now make your way back up to the small room at the top.
When you get ready to enter the room, toss a CHAFF GRENADE and then enter.
Go to the first of the 3 laptop computers. If you have the PAL CARD
equipped, it will accept the card. Now head to the Warehouse.

Warehouse
==========================================================================
Inside the Warehouse wait around until the PAL CARD turns blue in color.
Once this happens you can go back into the Warehouse North. It will take
a couple of minutes for this to happen.

Warehouse North
==========================================================================
Go to the small room on the top of the area and again toss a CHAFF GRENADE
then enter the room. Go up to the middle computer with the PAL CARD
equipped and it will accept the card. Now go to the Hot Spot I mentioned
earlier in the Blast Furnace and wait until the PAL CARD turns red. Then
come back to the small room and toss another CHAFF GRENADE and then enter.
Approach the last computer with the PAL CARD and then you are done with
that. Immediately equip your GAS MASK and call Otacon. When he opens the
door, go outside and go in front of MGR.

==========================================================================
Boss Battle:  Metal Gear Rex
==========================================================================
For the first round toss a CHAFF GRENADE and then hit the radar dish on
MGR's left shoulder with as many STINGER MISSILES as you can before the
CHAFF GRENADE wears off. Wash, rinse, repeat until the battle is won.

Now the second round is a little tougher. The cockpit where Liquid is is
exposed and you have a clear shot at him. However, MGR is quicker this
round also. The best stragegy for this is to run between MGR's legs and
get behind it and then shoot at the cockpit with the STINGER LAUNCHER. If
you get too close in the front you will be toasted a little with a laser.
But just repeat this process until MGR crashes down.

==========================================================================
Boss Battle:  Liquid Snake
==========================================================================
This battle is very much like the battle with the Ninja. It is hand to
hand. You are on the top of MGR and you are going against Liquid Snake.
Wait until he attacks and move out of the way then counterattack him. Do
this until he falls off of MGR then the battle is over. And you have 3
minutes to complete this battle or everyone is dead. It's not really very
tough.

==========================================================================
Escape
==========================================================================
Remember in the Torture Chamber you were able to determine what ending you
would get? Well if you went through all of the torture, you will have
Meryl here, if you gave up, you will have Otacon. Anyway, just follow
whoever you chose to save into the rooms beyond. Get into the back of the
jeep with the gun. Blow up any and all roadblocks you come to. It is
much easier to aim the gun if you use First Person View. After you get
into the tunnel Liquid will come back in another jeep. Constantly shoot
at him so that he can't shoot you. Just concentrate your fire on him and
this level will be over in no time. When you come out of the tunnel, the
game is over.

NOTE: If you chose to save Meryl, Otacon will still live. However, when
you start a new game with this file, you will have the BANDANA item. It
gives you infinite ammo when it is equipped. If you saved Otacon, you
will have the STEALTH CAMOFLAUGE. I don't need to say what that is. Good
job!
