---------------
1. Introduction
---------------

Well, the reason I am making this guide is to help people in Zelda 64 (oh,
BTW, the real name is Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, but Zelda 64 is a lot
shorter). I have made only one other RPG guide. It was for Final Fantasy
Tactics (a good game, get it!) for the PSX. However, I am refining my way of
writing using this guide.

I reserved the game and got it on Dec. 3, 1998. Yup, I remember when I got
the game. I started playing and couldn't stop. I played many hours and had
many sleepless nights. However, if I didn't do that, there wouldn't be a
guide, now would there? I just beat the dang game recently (of the time I
am writing this) with a game you should call "perfect". 20 white-bordered
hearts, big magic meter, 100 Gold Skulltulas, a horse I call Epona, all
4 bottles, 3 magic spells and magical arrows.

Sure, beating a game usually means it's death, especially in single ending
RPGs. However, it did not for me. I am still playing it even though I have
got the "perfect" game.

Hopefully, you will benefit from the help I will give to you. If you don't,
well, you just aint looking hard enough.

3. How to Start Off in the Game
-------------------------------

Needless to say, starting the game in the beginning is hard. You usually
won't know what to do for a long time, a time better spent playing the game
more. I will help you up to leaving Kokiri Forest.

You'll start in your house. Go out and go down the ladder. You will talk to
Saria for some time and then you can walk around. If you try to go to either
the Hyrule Field or Deku Tree exit, you will be stopped. However, Mido at the
Deku Tree will say you need a sword and shield to pass.

Getting the sword and shield are easy, you just need to know how. The shield
is super easy. While browsing around the houses of Kokiri Forest, you will
see the shop owner selling a Deku Shield for 40 Rupees. Open the chests in
Mido's House for some Rupees. Go to the House of Twins to get a few Rupees.
You can go back and forth in the Twins House to get the Rupees in the pots.
You can also jump on the blocks near the shop without falling for 5 Rupees.
Buy the shield whenever you get enough Rupees.

Now, go to the Know-It-All Bros House. Talk to them for some helpful
beginner's information. When you are done with them go into the fence maze
and talk to the Kokiri at the end for some information. When you are done,
go to the little hole and stop. The Blue Button (representing A) will say
"Enter". Press A and enter. Use Up to go forward. You will be in a secluded
part of Kokiri Forest.

A boulder will go around in a circle around the column. Just follow behind it
and when you get to the to north-western part, take a right. Open the chest
there for a Kokiri Sword! Go out the way you came.

Now, go back to Mido. He will let you pass. On the way to the Deku Tree, you
will be "attacked" by Deku Babas. Well, all they do is stand there, you can
slice them for Deku Sticks, but they will just regrow, so kill enough for 10
Deku Sticks or practice your swords play.

When you get far enough you'll talk to the Deku Tree and he will let you
inside him. You will be in a large room. There are some Deku Babas that
attack. To beat them you can either attack like crazy (not recommended) or
let them attack, block with your shield and counter.

Climb either the ivy or ladder. If you use the ladder just run off the edge
so you can get to the other side. You will jump automatically and land. Keep
going on the ledge and you will reach a chest. It will contain the Dungeon
Map. The Dungeon Map allows you to see the whole map in the Subscreen. Now,
enter the door after the chest.

You will see a Deku Scrub. It shoots Deku Nuts at you. If you get close, it
will run away, so you need a different tactic to beat it. You can Z Target it
and when it fires a Nut, stand still and use your shield. The shield will
reflect it back to the Scrub and he will get hit. It won't die, but it will
stand there. Go up to him and talk. Listen to what he says and remember it.
It will help you. Go into room behind him.

Jump off the ledge and climb the ivy so you can get to the chest. Open the
chest and recieve the first real useful item, the Slingshot! Now, you are
probably wondering how to get out. People who have a real tough time would
just save and reset now, so they can go back to the beginning of the Deku
Tree. The way out is real simple. Aim the slingshot and the ladder above
the door you came in. Fire, and the ladder will fall down. Climb the ladder
to get out. Go back into the large entrance room.

Keep going forward on the ledge. You will reach some ivy. There are some
Skullwalltulas on the ivy. If you trying climbing it while they are on it,
if they hit you, you will be knocked down. It is possible to climb while they
are on the ivy, but I just Z Target them and Slingshot away. Go up the ivy
when they are dead.

If you try go off any of the log ledges, you will be attacked by a Big
Skullwalltula. They are hard for the beginner and require patience. Now,
don't get close to it when it is facing you. It will use the un-blockable
spin attack and send you flying back with some damage. Wait till it is turned
away and attack with the sword or slingshot. Don't jump off yet though.

Open the door nearby and go into the big room. Step on the switch to your
right and three pillars will rise. Jump onto them and keep jumping until you
get to the chest on the other side. Open it for the Compass. It will allow
you to see where the Boss (marked by a Skull) and the Chests are in the
dungeon on the map. Jump back, but stay on the 2nd pillar. Face the alcove
and jump in. You can get a recovery heart and you will see a Skullwalltula
type enemy on the wall. When you try to kill it, you see it takes two hits
and it leaves a big skull behind. That my friends, is a Gold Skulltula. Get
the token. There are 100 Gold Skulltulas all over the world, and you have
one.

In order to get out of the big room, you must use your Deku Sticks. Take one
out and have its tip touch the torch on fire. The Deku Stick will catch on
fire. Bring the fire to the other torch. The door will open, and you should
put away the stick before it burns out (just stand still and the A Button
should say, Put Away). Go onto one of the log ledges (make sure to watch out
for Big Skullwalltulas) and jump off. Land on the web and you will crash down
onto the water below.

There are two Gold Skulltulas in this room. One is on the small gate. Use
the slingshot to kill it and jump off the ledge to get it. The other is on
the ivy leading back up to the entrance. Kill it and climb up to get it.

Use a Deku Stick and grab some flame. Go over to the door covered by webs.
Make sure you walk on the shallow part so the flame will not go out. Use the
flame on the web and it will burn out so you can go into the room. Beat the
Deku Scrub and remember what he says (2,3,1). To go to the next room, use
the Slingshot on the eye above the sealed door.

Jump into water, but avoid the spiked log. Dive a little bit when you get to
the switch so you can touch it, barely. A platform will be raised, but only
for a limited time. Use it to jump onto the other side and watch out for the
Big Skullwalltula there. Go into the next room.

The room is very easy, just light all the torches. Go into the next room.
Walk around the edge until you get to the door. If you go into the center,
you will attacked by some Gohma Larvae. Also, the wall that looks weird, it
is a bombable wall, but you need bombs to open it. The bombs will gained
later in the game.

You will end up back into the place where you entered the basement. Get some
flame and roll onto the webbing while the flame is still going. The web will
burn and you will fall into the next room.

Remember 2,3,1 from that scrub? You use it here now. There are 3 scrubs in
the room. You must kill them in this order, middle, right, left (get it?).
Nuts from other scrubs may hurt you so watch out. Move around after you send
a nut back at its attacker. When you kill them in the right order, the door
to the boss opens. Make sure you are ready because there is no turning back.

If you want to know how to kill the boss, go to the How to beat the bosses
section. I want you to look at the rest of this guide! After you win, make
sure to grab the heart somewhere on the battlefield. Then, step into the
light so you can be taken out of the Deku Tree.

Make sure you have everything you need before you leave Kokiri Forest. You
can now since you beat the Deku Tree Dungeon. You can come back, and you
should, but there is a whole world to explore. After you leave Kokiri Forest,
the whole world is yours. It's up to you from here. Good luck!

--------------------------------
6. Where to find the 10 Big Poes
--------------------------------

The 10 Big Poes must be hunted using Epona. Otherwise, the Poe you begin to
fight is a regular Poe which does not count toward the total. You need to
capture all 10 Big Poes into a bottle and hand it over to the Ghost Hunter
in Hyrule Market. Catching Poes is NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE without Epona. Again, it
can be done without her (with a 1% chance), but it is much easier with her.
You need to make the Poes reveal themselves and then hit it twice with
arrows. Your skills need to be sharp so you can hit them. Also, make sure you
have a bottle ready and don't try to get one if you are full. The Poe spirit
will disappear if you do not have a bottle ready. You can tell if the enemy
you killed was a Poe or Big Poe if the spirit left behind is yellow. Yellow
equals Big Poe. Purple equals Poe.

Oh yeah, you want to know why to hunt Big Poes in the first place? Go to the
How to get hard to find items section.

First Poe
Northwest section of Hyrule Field. Ride around the brush until you reveal a
Big Poe.

Second Poe
The sign near Hyrule Castle. Brush by it to reveal a Big Poe.

Third Poe
The bottom V-Shaped wall east of Lon Lon Ranch. Brush by it to reveal a Big
Poe.

Fourth Poe
The lookout point near Kakariko Village. Go under the little bridge to
reveal a Big Poe.

Fifth Poe
Southeast section of Hyrule Field. Ride around the brush until you reveal a
Big Poe.

Sixth Poe
Southeast section of Hyrule Field. Ride around the brush until you reveal a
Big Poe.

Seventh Poe
The intersection near Gerudo Valley. Ride on the path until you reveal a Big
Poe.

Eighth Poe
The tree near the north end of the intersection. Brush by it to reveal a Big
Poe.

Ninth Poe
The tree north of the entrance of Lon Lon Ranch. Brush by it to reveal a Big
Poe.

Tenth Poe

The Big Rock at the beginning of the gap of the Y-Shaped Path. Brush by it to
reveal a Big Poe.

IF YOU NEED HELP, PLEASE LOOK AT THE HYRULE CASTLE MAP (CAN BE FOUND AT
GAMEFAQS.COM, LOOK UNDER ZELDA: OCARINA OF TIME).

-----------------------------
7. How to get Epona the Horse
-----------------------------

Epona the horse will be a very powerful ally in unlocking some of the
secrets in Zelda 64. It isn't easy for the beginner to get Epona even though
they know it's possible (looking at the title screen). The start of getting
Epona begins in the beginning of the game.

Make sure you learn Epona's Song as a child. Malon will teach it to you when
you go to Lon Lon Ranch.

When you are an adult, go to Lon Lon Ranch. Something has changed as Ingo now
seems to control the ranch and praises Lord Ganondorf. Talk to him and pay to
ride a horse. Play Epona's Song and Epona will come to you. Climb on her and
talk to Ingo while on her. He will propose a race for 50 Rupees. Agree.

The 1st race is very easy, use a carrot, stay in Ingo's way and use a carrot
when it comes back. The race is only one lap so you can gun it at the end.

He is a sore loser and he will ask for another race. The 2nd race is a bit
harder. You should use more carrots and stay in his way as much as possible.
If you run of carrots (you shouldn't, but it is easy to do) just stay in his
way. You will get all 6 carrots back at once after some time.

If you win the 2nd race, you get Epona, but you can't get her out of the
ranch the easy way. Instead, run around the track for a few laps. Go toward
one of the barriers and jump it at full blast. If you are good, you will
switch to a small cinema showing you jumping out of Lon Lon Ranch onto Hyrule
Field. Good job, you got Epona!

However, when you start a game over and end up at the Temple of Time, you
can't find Epona! Easy way to get her back, just play Epona's Song and she
will come running at you. You can also do this to summon her in areas or to
make her to come to you.

------------------------
8. All 13 Ocarina Songs
------------------------

There really is no point to this since you can get the songs in the
subscreen. But, hey, if you were like me you don't like to look at the
subscreen over and over. This is for the lazy people who don't want to write.
Enjoy!

-Zelda's Lullaby - C+Left, C+Up, C+Right, C+Left, C+Up, C+Right
To learn Zelda's Lullaby, all you have to do is visit her in Hyrule Castle.
She will teach you the song. The song is used to activate the Triforce
symbols spread all over the world of Hyrule.

-Epona's Song - C+Up, C+Left, C+Right, C+Up, C+Left, C+Right
To learn Epona's Song, just talk to Malon at Lon Lon Ranch after you wake her

teach you the song. The song is used to tame Epona the horse.

-Saria's Song - C+Down, C+Right, C+Left, C+Down, C+Right, C+Left
To learn Saria's Song, visit her at the top area in the Sacred Forest Meadow
(where the big white Triforce is). You must have first visited Zelda at
Hyrule Castle. Talk to her and show her your Ocarina. Saria's Song will
activate some hidden effects as well as you being able to contact Saria
anywhere in world for advice.

-Sun's Song - C+Right, C+Down, C+Up, C+Right, C+Down, C+Up
To learn the Sun Song, go to Kakariko Graveyard and play Zelda's Lullaby at
the Triforce Symbol at the northern most grave. Jump in the hole and kill all
the enemies in the first room. After that, run by all the Redeads in the next
room and reach the small room after that. In there, look at the enscription
in the statue. You will learn the Sun Song. The Sun Song is used to freeze
Redead/Gibdo and to change the time from Day to Night in the outside world.

-Song of Time - C+Right, A, C+Down, C+Right, A, C+Down
To learn the Song of Time, go to the Temple of Time after gettting the
Ocarina of Time from Zelda. Once inside, place the 3 stones on the altar and
you will learn the Song of Time. The Song of Time is used to remove/create
blue blocks in certain places.

-Song of Storms - A, C+Down, C+Up, A, C+Down, C+Up
To learn the Song of Storms, go to the Kakariko Windmill as an adult. Show
the music man your Ocarina to learn the Song of Storms. The Song of Storms
is used to create rain and lightning as well as create hidden effects.

-Minuet of Forest - A, C+Up, C+Left, C+Right, C+Left, C+Right
To learn the Minuet of the Forest, go to northern most area in the Sacred
Meadow Valley. Sheik will teach you the song. To learn it, you must have the
Hookshot. The Minuet of the Forest is used to warp you to the white Triforce

Kakariko Graveyard.

-Requiem of Spirit - C+Left, C+Right, C+Right, A, C+Left, C+Right, C+Down
To learn the Requiem of Spirit, you must leave the Spirit Temple after
entering it the first time. Sheik will appear and teach you the song. The

Desert Colossus.

-Prelude of Light - C+Up, C+Right, C+Up, C+Right, C+Left, C+Up

beating your first temple. Go to where the Master Sword and Sheik will teach
the Prelude of Light. The Prelude of Light is used to warp you to the white
Triforce symbol in the Temple of Time.

-Scarecrow's Song - ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?
(Okay, now I put the ? because you make the Scarecrow's Song. This song is
not needed, but you need it to get some hearts and gold skulltulas. To start
learning it, go to Lake Hylia. Talk to Bonooru the Scarecrow. Play for him a
song with at least 2 notes. Now, go back to Lake Hylia as an adult and play
the song you played as a child for him. If you play the exact song, you will
gain the Scarecrow's Song. The notes are the song you played for him. You can
go back in time and change the song, but you'll have to play it for him
again. The song won't appear in the Subscreen. The point of the song is to
have Pierre the scarecrow appear in certain places. You can tell if the
song is useful if Navi turns green and goes to a faraway place. Play the
song and see what happens).

(NOTE: This upgrade does not seem to work in Gold Versions of the game.)

-How do I get the Mask of Truth?

First, sell the Keaton Mask to the guard of Death Mountain in Kakariko
Village. Next, sell the Skull Mask to the lone Skull Kid in the Lost Woods.
After that, sell the Spooky Mask to the kid who walks around the Kakariko

-How do I get Naryu's Love?

Blow up the wall in between the two palm trees on the north wall of the

-How do I get the Gold Gauntlets?

Get to the visible platform after the one with the Like Like in the Shadow
part of Ganon's Castle. Fire a fire arrow at the torch on the other visible
platform. If you light it, on the right side of the platform you are on,
there will some ice blocks. Follow them down to the switch. Longshot onto
the treasure chest that appears on the platform you were on. Open it.

-How do I get the Biggoron Sword?

I've saved the best for last my friends! Look at the item description of it
if you want to know why it is so good. BTW, all this is done when you are an
adult.

First, go to Kakariko Village and talk to the chicken lady. She will give you
a Pocket Egg. Let it hatch into a Pocket Cucco. Use the Pocket Cucco to
wake up Talon who is sleeping with the two fat ladies in Kakariko town. Bring
back the Pocket Cucco to the chicken lady and you will get Cojiro, the blue
Cucco.

Bring Cojiro to the man who is sitting near the log where the lone skull kid
used to be. Give it to him in exchange for the Odd Mushroom. Run, don't walk
with the Odd Mushroom since it will expire if you are slow. Bring the Odd
Mushroom to the Old Lady's Potion shop in Kakariko Village (use the exit in
the other Potion Shop). She will give you the Odd Medicine. Bring the Odd
Medicine to the Lost Woods, but instead of the man, you will see a Kokiri
girl. Give her the medicine and you will get the Poacher's Saw.

Go to Gerudo Valley and cross the bridge using Epona or a Hookshot. Give the
man the Poacher's Saw and he will give you the broken Goron sword. Bring the
Goron Sword to the top of Death Mountain (where the entrance to Death
Mountain Cavern is). Go to the right side and a big Goron should appear. Give
him the Broken Sword and he will give you the Prescription.

Go to Zora's Domain and show King Zora the Prescription (only if he is
defrosted). He will give you an eyeball frog to take to the Old Man in Lake
Hylia. Again, run, don't walk, to Lake Hylia. When you get there, trade the
frog for the Eye Drops. You'll have to run again since the Eye Drops can
expire. This time, run to Death Mountain.

I suggest using the Magic Plant here since it can fly you up very quickly.
Otherwise, you may lose too much time. When you get to Biggoron, give him the
Eye Drops and he will give you the Claim Check. Wait a few days and give him
the Claim Check when he is ready. You will now recieve the Biggoron Sword,
the real "Master Sword".

--------------------------
10. How to beat the Bosses
--------------------------

How to beat: Parasitic Armored Arachnid - GOHMA

Pretty easy if you know what you are doing. Just Z-Target her, get the
Slingshot ready. When her eye is red, fire away. She will be stunned for some
time so use this time to take out your sword and jump attack her while she
is slumped on the ground. She will jump up back onto the ceiling. If you are
slow and cannot attack quickly, she will start sending out some Gohma Spawn,
which you should kill quickly as possible. Try and keep her Z-Targeted at all
times. Repeat the process until dead.

How to beat: Infernal Dinosaur - KING DODONGO

The King is hard to beat since you probably won't realize how to kill him at
first. It took me awhile as well. First, stand near the edge of the lava.
Make sure not to touch it however. That way, when the King rolls around or
shoots lava, you will not get hurt. After he crashes after he stops rolling,
grab on of the Bomb Flowers laying around (only if he is close, if he is on
the other side of the room, don't try anything until he gets closer). Run to
him while you hold the Bomb Flower. When he opens his mouth, Z-Target it and
throw the flower in. If you were good enough, he should swallow it and it
will explode in his tummy. He'll fall down, leaving a good opening to use
a Jump Attack. Repeat the process until dead.

How to beat: Bio-Electric Anemone - BARINADE

To begin, Barinade goes through many forms. In his first form, Z-Target the
top parts of him and attack them with a boomerang. After that, he will
release some pods that will circle him. Attack them until the main body opens
up. When it does, hit it with a boomerang. Barinade will become blue and you
can attack with a jump attack. Repeat the process until dead.

How to beat: Evil Spirit from Beyond - PHANTOM GANON

There are two forms of Phantom Ganon. In the first, there are two Ganons, one
fake, the other real. The Ganons come through the pictures all over the room.
You need to hit the Ganon with a bow when it comes out (if it is the real
one). So, keep your bow trained on a Ganon coming at you from a picture. If
the Ganon you are targeting turns back at the last moment, it is a fake. Roll
to the edge of the platform to avoid the attack from the real Ganon. Keep
trying until the Phantom Ganon goes to the next form. In the second form,
the Phantom Ganon will fire magic balls at you. Just use your sword to swing
it back at him. He may or may not swing it back at you. Keep playing tennis
until he gets hit and stunned. When stunned, jump in for the kill. Repeat
the process until dead.

How to beat: Subterranean Lava Dragon - VOLVAGIA

You know that game with the moles that you hit with a hammer? This is what it
would be like in 3-D. Volvagia pokes his head out of a hole and you have to
hit him with the Megaton Hammer. Make sure it isnt a decoy poke out since
you'll lose precious time recovering from the attack. Every once in awhile,
Volvagia will fly out. You can attack him when he is flying, but it isnt
recommended. When he is flying, rocks of lava will fall, but just keep moving
to avoid them. Repeat the process until dead.

How to beat: Giant Aquatic Amoeba - MORPHA

Morpha is very easy to beat. Since you have the Longshot, you can get him so
far away he can't attack you. Just Z-Target the little ball in one of the
tentacles. Pull it towards you with the Longshot and then hit it with your
sword. Each time the ball returns, a new tentacle appears. Make sure to avoid
the tentacle attacks and just keep Z-Targeting the ball from far away. Repeat
the process until dead.

How to beat: Phantom Shadow Beast - BONGO BONGO

You can tell if Bongo Bongo is going to attack if his hand stops pounding on
the platform. To attack him, just hit his hands with a bow shot. Magic pots
and arrows come out of a sucessful arrow shot. When both hands are blue, use
the Eye of Truth to find the Eye. Hit the Eye with a Bow Shot and than Jump
Attack him while stunned. If you are slow, the hands will recover and you
will have to start over. Repeat the process until dead.

How to beat: Sorceress Sisters - TWINROVA

The first form his somewhat hard. You should not Z-Target a single witch
until you reflect energy. Then, you should Z-Target the witch you want to
hit. The way to harm the witches is hard to do. You need to wait till one of
the witches fires a beam at you. Bring out your shield and reflect the beam
toward the other witch. Repeat until they turn into one boss. The second form
is easy to beat compared to the first. Just Z-Target the witch and show your
shield. Have the shield contain the energy blasts from the witch. Make sure
to contain 3 of the same shot in a row. (Ex. If you start with ice blasts,
make sure to only contain ice blasts, jump out of the way of fire blasts).
When you collect 3 of the same shot in a row, you will fire it back at the
witch. She will become stunned. Just jump onto where she is and jump attack.
Running over there with Hover Boots is a time saver. Repeat the process until
dead.

How to beat: King of Thieves - GANONDORF

In the beginning, if you fall with the platform climb up and jump to one of
the corners of the room. I suggest keeping Hover Boots on the whole fight,
you will see why. If you stand in one of the ledges, Ganondorf may use an
attack to knock the whole ledge down. He won't use that if you are in a
corner. Usually, Ganondorf attacks like Phantom Ganon's 2nd form, using
energy balls. Just reflect it back to him with a sword shot until he is
stunned. While stunned, use a Light Arrow to make him fall to the center
platform. Then, walk over to the center platform and use a jump attack to
hurt him. You might be able to do two, but I'm careful and I walk back to the
corner. If you see Ganon drawing a lot of energy, fight a Light Arrow at him
as soon as possible. He will use his super attack if you allow him to use
his attack and it does hurt. The Light Arrow will cancel the attack as well
as allowing you to go in for another attack. If you run out of magic, hearts
or arrows, just drop down to below the battle room back to the room with the
pots. There are plenty of items you can get to replenish your supplies.
Repeat the process until dead.

How to beat: GANON

Pretty dang easy if you ask me. A little tip here, if you need some hearts,
magic pots, etc., just have Ganon take down a pillar. His first form is very
slow. Just Z-Target his tail and side jump on his left side. If you try his
right side, you're asking for some hurt since his right side attack his very
hard to avoid. The left side attack is easily avoided and the recoil time can
be used to jump attack him your sword. Repeat until he goes into his second
form. In the down time between his forms, grab the Master Sword. You can't
use what you did before since Ganon is now faster. You can do two things at
this point. You can Z-Target his face and fire a light arrow. Or, you can
roll under his legs (yes, it is possible) and slice his tail from there.
After you beat Ganon beatly enough, Zelda will hold him down and you must
equip the Master Sword as this point. Use the Sword to slice him and enjoy
the rest of the game.

---------------------------
11. All 100 Gold Skulltulas
---------------------------

Yes, I've found every single one, and boy, was that a task to finish. Of
course, the prize for it stinks, but you get some sense of self-worth.

Unlike with the hearts, I won't list them in order. I may in the future, but
it will be real annoying for me to do so at this point and time. I will tell
you if the Skulltula you can get requires anything special and a special
timeframe (adult or child). Remember, most Skulltulas come out at night.

climb up the wall to get the Gold Skulltula.

ADULT
#28-There is a brown rock in the area where you threw the Bomb Plant to open
the Dodongo Cavern. Use the Megaton Hammer to break that rock.

12. Great Fairies
-----------------

In all, there are 6 Great Fairies. They represent Power, Wisdom, and Courage.
3 of them give you special powers and the other 3 give magical powers.
Although you don't need their help, it will be wise to get these powers
anyway.

FIRST GREAT FAIRY - Death Mountain Trail

After beating the Dodongo Cavern, go back on the trail to where the trail
divides. One side (left of the big flag) goes up to the peak, while the
other side (right) goes to the Goron City. Go on the left path, blowing up
the rocks if they block your way. You will have to throw a bomb at the rock
on the other side of the steps. When you get to the top of the steps, you
should hear mooing. You can blow up the boulder there to reveal a pit. Inside
the pit, you can jump in to get some Rupees and even get some milk. Keep
going north until the screen turns red and you hear rumbling. Make sure to
have your Hylian shield ready. When the shadow around you turns circular, you
should either run or place your shield on top of you. Run while the rock
falling is delayed, or whenever you can find the time. After that, climb the
ivy, but watch out for the Skullwalltulas. Z-Target them and Slingshot them.
Once you reach the peak (finally) you will see a open cave, a blocked up one,
and that owl! (When you want to leave, let the owl carry to Kakariko
Village). Use a blow to blow up the rubble in front of the blocked up cave
and go inside. Follow the marble path and play Zelda's Lullaby on the
triforce symbol. The Great Fairy that appears will give you the magical spin
slash (you can charge it up for more power).

SECOND GREAT FAIRY - Hyrule Castle

Go back to the front of the castle (with all the soldiers). Pass the guard
you can talk to (either by bribing him or using the ivy and go to the sign
that warns of a Dead End. Blow up the boulder just past it and climb inside
the little hole. Play Zelda's Lullaby on the Triforce symbol and recieve
Din's Fire, the spell of Fire which costs 6 MP to use, but does a good
amount of damage, and can light torches.

THIRD GREAT FAIRY - Zora's Fountain

At Zora's Fountain, go to the little island in the southeast. Place a bomb on
the wall (in between the rocks if you like) to blow up the whole wall. Go in
and play Zelda's Lullaby on the Triforce symbol and recieve Farore's Wind.
Use it once to set a warp point and use it again to either remove that point
or warp to the point.

FOURTH GREAT FAIRY - Death Mountain Cavern

Make sure you have the hammer for this. You can do this right after beating
the Fire Temple by Hookshoting over to the other side using the fallen bridge
(make sure to point the lazer at the top piece of wood so you will climb up).
Go to south of the little island you are now on (use the map). You will see
some rocks blocking a cave. Break the rocks and go inside. Once inside, play
Zelda's Lullaby to enable the Great Fairy. She will give you a double magic
bar.

FIFTH GREAT FAIRY - Desert Colossus

Once entering the Desert Colossus, walk along the north wall. Once you reach
the crack in the wall (in between the two palm trees), blow it up and enter.
Play Zelda's Lullaby and get Naryu's Love. You can use Naryu's Love to make
a magical shield surround you. While the shield is on, you don't take damage,
but act if you did (ex. if you get hit while climbing on a ledge, you will
scream, but won't take any damage).

SIXTH GREAT FAIRY - Ganon's Castle

When you get the Gold Gauntlets, go back to the area where you got Din's
Fire. Pass the little rocks and head for the pillar with the cresent on it.
Grab it and watch the little cinema. Enter through the revealed archway and
play Zelda's Lullaby. Your hearts will now be coated with a white border.
This means that all damage done to you is now halved.

--------------
13. Enemy List
--------------

Deku Baba
Found: Kokiri Forest, Deku Tree, Forest Temple

The first enemy you face, the ones in Kokiri Forest don't do anything but
stand there. The others attack, but have a limited range and can be easily
blocked with your shield. When they die, they give out Deku Sticks or Nuts.

Deku Scrub
Found: Deku Tree

Deku Scrub are plant type creatures which pop out every so often to spit Deku
Nuts at you. You can reflect them back with your shield, or if you are quick,
you can attack them before they hide. They will hide if you get near or if
they are reloading. You cannot kill them, just make them surrender.

Skulltula
Found: All over the world

Skullwalltulas may seem imposing and tough, but only to the beginner. Before
you get a lot of weapons, you have to be patient with this enemy. It's weak
point is its back. A single jump attack can kill it. Watch out for its spin
attack which can throw you back a far ways. A sword shot that hits its face
will just make it go back and forth. A boomerang can stun this creature
though.

Skullwalltula
Found: All over the world

Skullwalltula can only stay on ivy. Their only purpose is to knock you down
while climbing. To know if they will attack, watch if they turn purple. You
can pass by them if they don't see you, but you should always kill them with
Slingshot/Hookshot when possible.

Gold Skulltula
Found: ALL OVER THE WORLD

Gold Skulltula are needed to count toward your Gold Skulltula total. They
can't hurt you (unless you touch them) and they don't move around, so if you
don't care about Gold Skulltula counts, then just skip these enemies.

Gohma Spawn
Found: Deku Tree

Crablike creatures which move pretty fast. Watch out for them since their
attacks can hurt. The good thing is that they turn red before attacking.
That way you can prepare as you like. When you hurt a Spawn, it will retreat,
but come back sooner or later.

Peahat
Found: Hyrule Field

They only attack in the morning, and only if you get close to one. They start
their attack two ways. Either they attack using their own body (usually if
you charge at them) or they attack using Peheat Larva while they fly high
above. Peahats take 6 Slingshot hits so there is little point in fighting
them since your rewards are minimal. If you try to fight one in the night, it
won't take damage, but it will release Peahat Larva.

Peahat Larva
Found: Hyrule Field

Peahat Larva attack you kamakaze style. They only die when they hit anything.
Your shield, walls, or even you. Outrunning them is out of the question so
either find shelter or get that shield ready.

Stalchild
Found: Hyrule Field

Stalchild are skeleton type enemies which you find in infinite numbers during
night. They take only few hits, but keep coming back. If any are alive at
daybreak, they retreat to the ground. They aren't much of a problem since you
can easily outrun them. Little trick fighting Stalchildren, if you kill a lot
of them in a single night, a big Stalchild will come out, but he only attacks
faster.

Business Scrub
Found: All over the world

Like Deku Scrubs, except they offer you items in exchange for surrender.

Guay
Found: Lon Lon Ranch, Lake Hylia, Desert Colossus

You probably won't find these a problem since they die easily and don't
attack a lot. But when they do, just block them and attack.

Wolfos
Found: Lost Woods, Forest Temple

The first of the attack or be attacked enemies, you have to do some real good
fighting to beat him. When he attacks, block him and reply quickly with an
attack of your own. You shouldn't attack him when he's running around since
he can block pretty well. After some time, you should be able to kill him
with practice.

14. Mini-Games
--------------

Many good RPGs have mini-games in them. Chrono Trigger had that soldier
guessing game, FF7 had the Chocobo Racing. But, Zelda has MANY Mini-Games.
Some are fun, some are tedious, but all are important to enhance your Zelda
64 experience.

The Treasure Game

FOUND AT: HYRULE MARKET
PLAYED AS: CHILD ONLY
OPEN IN: THE NIGHT
COST: 10 RUPEES

This game isn't really that fun. If you are wondering what the prize at the
end is, it's a Piece of Heart the first time and a Purple Rupee every other
time. The point is to pass through 5 rooms with 2 chests each. One of the
chests has a key which is used to pass through the locked door to the next
room. The other chest has a Rupee that depends on the room color. (The room
color=Rupee color). You can come back here as a Child with the Lens of Truth.
Use the Lens of Truth on the treasure chest. You can look through it so you
can see what is inside it. Although cheap, it is the easy way to win.

The Hunt for Little Richard

FOUND AT: HYRULE MARKET
PLAYED AS: CHILD ONLY
OPEN IN: THE NIGHT
COST: NONE

Go into the back alleys and open the door you can only open at that time. In
the house, you will see that fat woman talk about her dog that yelps around
when you are in the market in the day. To find the dog, just touch the white
dog that is behind the stand near the man in the window. If you pick up the
wrong dog by mistake, just talk to the fat woman for her to get rid of it.

Shooting Gallery

FOUND AT: HYRULE MARKET & KAKARIKO VILLAGE
PLAYED AS: CHILD & ADULT
OPEN IN: THE DAY
COST: 20 RUPEES

15 Nuts (or Bows) to use to fire at 10 Rupees. Break them all to get a
special prize (first time child=Bullet Bag, first time adult=Large Quiver).
If you only get 8 of them, you play again for free. 7 or less means you lose
and have to pay to start over. BTW, there is a set order when you are a
child. It is MIDDLE, LEFT, RIGHT, JUMPING MIDDLE, LEFT & RIGHT, MOVING TO THE
LEFT, MOVING TO THE RIGHT. The adult gallery combines these orders in a
random setting.

Bombchu Bowling

FOUND AT: HYRULE MARKET
PLAYED AS: CHILD ONLY
OPEN IN: 24-HOURS
COST: 30 RUPEES

You get 10 Bombchus to use to blow up the target. The prize is randomly
selected, but you can pick from purple rupee, bombs, Bomb Bag, Bombchus, and
Piece of Heart. Once dropped, the go in a line in the direction you were
facing. The first wall is always dead center with only a spike moving back
and forth. Drop the bombchu when the spike is away and when you are in the
center. If good, it will pass the spike area and continue on until it hits
the target. The second wall can be either on the sides or the top center. If
it is on the sides, throw it in a straight line toward it. The chicken
should not be a problem with the side targets. The center target can just be
done like the first wall, just watch for the small chicken. The third wall is
the hardest. Just time your shot so it passes by the small and big chicken.
The time to best use it is when the big chicken is in the center. By the time
it gets there, hopefully it will be gone from the center. Good luck!

seems to control the ranch and praises Lord Ganondorf.

Field. Good job, you got Epona!

15. Thanks
----------

Well, I would have to thank me, because without me, this wouldn't be
possible. Also, a big thanks to Nintendo and Shigeru Miyamoto for making this
great game and releasing it in the states (finally!).

The people who email me with their questions and comments also get thanks.
Without them, I wouldn't have the Frequently Asked Questions Section and
something to read in my formerly empty mailbox.

Dwayne Agiao also gets a thanks for telling me that the 100 Gold Skulltula
prize can be taken many times.

Chris Braun gets a thanks for reminding me about the Sixth Great Fairy.

John Clay, a real-life friend I see every day, also gets a thanks for using
my guide for his game as well as editing it.

I can't think of anyone else at this point, but if you want to be
known, just contribute any information that you think will be helpful in this
guide.
