1.2 Who can become a CheatCodes.com Author?

1.3 How do I become a CheatCodes.com Author?

To become a CheatCodes.com Author, you must first be a CheatCodes.com Member. If you're not a member, then please register at http://members.cheatcodes.com/. Once you've completed the Member registration process and signed in, access the Authors Only area at http://authors.cheatcodes.com/, accept the terms of our Authors Program Agreement, and we'll update your Member account into an Author account.

1.4 How do I tell my friends about becoming a CheatCodes.com Author?

If you have friends who are FAQ authors, then you can tell them all about the CheatCodes.com Author Program by visiting the Invite a Friend page.

1.5 How will my FAQs be displayed?

CheatCodes.com displays all FAQs in their own browser window, in text format, with no banner ads, text ads, buttons, graphics, etc. Your FAQ will appear exactly as you authored it. It's your work, and we respect your rights to control how others view it.

1.6 Does CheatCodes.com charge money to view FAQs?

No! CheatCodes.com makes all content on our site available free of charge. We don't charge any money to view or download FAQs. We don't compile FAQs on any CD-ROMs to sell. We make money trying to sell advertising throughout our site, but we never include any advertising in work created by authors such as yourself.

1.7 Do I retain ownership of my FAQs?

Yes. According to the terms of the Authors Program Agreement, you are simply giving us a non-exclusive license to publish your FAQs online.

1.8 Does my FAQ need to be original?

Yes. If you submit a FAQ as your own, then you must be the original creator of the work. If you use anyone else's work, you must have their permission and give them credit. You must have all rights necessary to authorize the distribution and redistribution of any content you submit. You also need to be willing to provide us with information that we reasonably request related to any claim that your Content infringes the rights of a third party.

2 Authors Only Area FAQs

2.1 What is the Authors Only area?

The CheatCodes.com Authors Only area is a collection of resources to help FAQ authors write, edit, publish, and track their work on CheatCodes.com.

2.2 How do I sign in to the Authors Only area?

First, you must be a registered CheatCodes.com Author. Then, you can sign in from either the CheatCodes.com Authors Only home page at http://authors.cheatcodes.com/, or the Members Only home page at http://members.cheatcodes.com/. When you sign you in you have access to both the Members Only area and the Authors Only areas.

2.3 What is my Author Folder?

Each registered author has a Author Folder located at http://authors.cheatcodes.com/folder.html (this is a completely separate page from your Member Folder in the Members Only area). Your Author Folder displays elements of your Author Profile, your Permission Status, as well as summary information about all the FAQs you've submitted to CheatCodes.com. Your FAQs are organized and grouped according to their Current FAQ Status. It's a good idea to bookmark your Author Folder in your Web browser, since it's the perfect place for members to start a visit to CheatCodes.com.

2.4 How do I sign out of the Authors Only area?

You will be signed out automatically when you close all Web browser windows. Or, you can sign out manually by clicking the "Sign Out" button in the navigation bar. It is usually not necessary to sign out if you do not share your computer with anyone else. However, if more than one person uses your computer to access CheatCodes.com, it's best to sign out to ensure the protection of your account information.

3 Author Profile FAQs

3.1 What is my Public Profile?

All CheatCodes.com Members have a Public Profile, which is a publicly available page on CheatCodes.com that tells others about you. In addition to all the standard information displayed on your Public Member Profile, an author's Public Profile also displays a list of all your published FAQs, tells how long you've been a CheatCodes.com Author, shows your ranking compared to other authors, and can link to a Web form for visitors to provide feedback directly to you about your FAQs.

3.2 Do I have a Private Author Profile?

No. All private information (such as your real name, birth date, etc.) is stored in your Private Member Profile.

3.3 How do I view my Public Profile?

You can view your Public Profile by visiting http://authors.cheatcodes.com/profile.html and then entering your Nickname in the provided field. You can also view any other member's or author's profile if you know their Nickname.

3.4 How do I change the information displayed in my Public Profile?

To edit your Private or Public Profile, select the "Edit Profile" link in your Author Folder. The statistics information in your Author Profile changes automatically depending upon the FAQs you author, how many page views your FAQs receive, how many visitors recommend your FAQs, etc.

3.5 Who can see the information in my Public Profile?

Public Profiles are visible to the public, so any CheatCodes.com visitor who knows your Nickname can view your Public Profile. Your Nickname is displayed any time you are mentioned on CheatCodes.com - such as when you are listed as the author of a FAQ, given credit for submitting a code, listed as the winner of a contest, etc.

4 Permission FAQs

4.1 Do you need my permission to publish my FAQs?

Before we post any content on our site, we always ask for author permission. Protecting author rights is our primary concern at CheatCodes.com.

4.2 What does my Permission Status mean?

Your Permission Status is listed in your Author Folder, and can be either Manual or Automatic. We recommend selecting Automatic, which will automatically grant permission for future FAQs authored by you.

If you leave your permission status as Manual, you are required to manually grant permission for each FAQ before we can publish it, and it may delay future postings of other FAQs authored by you.

4.3 How do I grant permission to publish my FAQs?

By selecting Automatic as your Permission Status, then permission is granted automatically for each FAQ authored by you. Or, you can grant permission manually for each FAQ that is listed as Pending Your Permission.

4.4 How do I replace a Pending Permission FAQ with newer version?

If you want to replace a FAQ that is listed as Pending Your Permission with a more current version, you must first grant permission for us to publish the FAQ, then visit your Currently Published FAQs page and use one of the available editing options.

5 FAQ Status FAQs

5.1 What is FAQ Status?

Each FAQ that you author and submit to CheatCodes.com will fall into one of four possible FAQ Status categories: Pending Your Permission, Pending CheatCode.com Approval, Pending Your Resubmission, or Currently Published. A FAQ Status summary chart, showing how many FAQs you have in each status category, is included in your Author Folder. Each status is discussed in detail below.

5.2 What does "Pending Your Permission" mean?

This is one of the available FAQ Status options displayed in your Author Folder. FAQs in this group require that you grant us permission before we can publish them. You can grant permission for each FAQ manually, or you can grant us Automatic Permission.

5.3 What does "Pending CheatCodes.com Approval" mean?

This is one of the available FAQ Status options displayed in your Author Folder. FAQs in this group have already had permission granted by you for us to publish them, but they are awaiting review by our staff. Once reviewed, their status will be changed to either Currently Published or Pending Your Resubmission. Submissions with this status count toward your Maximum Pending Submissions Limit of 10 FAQs.

5.4 What does "Pending Your Resubmission" mean?

This is one of the available FAQ Status options displayed in your Author Folder. FAQs in this group have had permission granted by you for us to publish them and have been reviewed by our staff. However, our staff concluded during their review that your FAQ did not comply with our FAQ Submission Guidelines. The reason for this status will be displayed with the FAQ listing on the Pending Resubmission page. You can either edit and resubmit a FAQ that is pending resubmission, or you can delete it. If you edit and resubmit your FAQ, it will be reviewed once again by our staff, and its status will either be changed to Currently Published or remain Pending Resubmission if it still does not comply with the guidelines. Submissions with this status count toward your Maximum Pending Submissions Limit of 10 FAQs.

5.5 What does "Currently Published" mean?

This is one of the available FAQ Status options displayed in your Author Folder. FAQs in this group have had permission granted by you for us to publish them, have been approved by our staff, and are currently displayed live on the CheatCodes.com Web site. If you submit an updated version of a Currently Published FAQ, the previous version will remain published on the site until the updated version has been approved by our staff.

6 Submission FAQs

6.1 What are the requirements for FAQ submission?

All submitted FAQs must comply with our FAQ Submission Guidelines at http://authors.cheatcodes.com/guidelines.html before they will be considered for publishing. The guidelines were created to help you write better FAQs, protect the rights of FAQ authors, and provide high quality content for your readers. FAQs that don't meet our guidelines will be automatically rejected by our content staff.

6.2 What is the Maximum Pending Submissions Limit?

In order to protect our database against overloading, we have set a limit on the number of pending submissions that an author can store in our database. No more than a total of 10 FAQs per author that are either Pending CheatCodes.com Approval or Pending Resubmission are allowed in our system (FAQs that are Currently Published or Pending Your Permission DO NOT count against this limit). If you have reached the Maximum Pending Submissions Limit, you must either wait for our Content Staff to review your submissions, or delete one or more of your FAQs that are Pending Resubmission.

6.3 How do I submit a FAQ for publication?

We have three methods for submitting new FAQs: Web Form, File Upload, and Email. All three methods can be accessed from your Author Folder.

6.4 Can I edit a FAQ I've already submitted?

Yes. You can use the tools in your Author Folder to edit any of the FAQs you've submitted. Simply locate the FAQ you wish to edit based on its FAQ Status, and then choose one of the available editing methods. You can use the Web Form method to edit and resubmit your FAQ directly in your browser, you can File Upload an edited version, or you can Email your edited FAQ to our content staff.

6.5 Who reviews my FAQs before they are published?

The CheatCodes.com Content Staff reviews all FAQs before they are published. They ensure that your FAQ complies with our FAQ Submission Guidelines, and provide detailed feedback to you if your FAQ is not approved and requires your resubmission.

6.6 Why didn't my FAQ get published?

If your FAQ was not approved for submission (and was given the FAQ Status of Pending Resubmission), then it did not comply with at least one of our FAQ Submission Guidelines. Our content staff provides detailed feedback to you via email and in the Pending Resubmission page of your Author Folder so that you can edit your FAQ based on their feedback and resubmit it for review.

7 Author Stats FAQs

7.1 Which Author Stats are tracked?

CheatCodes.com tracks the following statistics for each FAQ Author: Registered Author Since, Published FAQs, FAQ Views, and Recommendation Percentage. How they are calculated and ranked are explained in more detail below.

7.2 How are Author Stats calculated?

Registered Author Since is the date that you first signed up as a member of the CheatCodes.com Authors Program.

Published FAQs is a measurement of your ability to publish FAQs. It is the total number of your FAQs that are currently published on CheatCodes.com.

FAQ Views is a measurement of the popularity of your FAQs. It is the total number of times visitors have viewed any of your published FAQs.

Recommendation Percentage is a measurement of the quality of your FAQs, based on visitor opinion. It is calculated by dividing the number of positive recommendations for your FAQs by the total number of all recommendations for your FAQs (both positive and negative), and shown as a percentage.

7.3 How are Authors ranked?

Authors are ranked in three of the statistics categories: Published FAQs, FAQ Views, and Recommendation Percentage.

Your rank for each of the statistics categories is calculated by comparing the value in the Total column against the values of all other registered authors. In the event of a tie, all authors with the same total for that statistics category will share that rank, and the number of authors who tie with you will be displayed.

7.4 Where are Author Stats and Ranks displayed?

You can view your own stats and ranks at http://authors.cheatcodes.com/stats.html. Your stats and ranks are also displayed as part of your Public Profile, which is available to the public.
