Content Submission Guidelines
The following are guidelines for submitting cheats, hints, and tips to CheatCodes.com. Guidelines for submitting FAQs are listed separately in our Authors Area.
When you submit content to CheatCodes.com, we have a few simple guidelines we'd like you to follow. We've put together this list of simple DOs and DON'Ts. If your submission misses a DO or commits a DON'T, then chances are we're gonna reject it.
Things to DO:
- DO make sure you are signed in as a CheatCodes.com Member. To reduce the amount of bogus submissions, we only allow CheatCodes.com members to submit codes and hints. Membership is FREE, so click here to register now if you're not already a member.
- DO make sure your submission is something we don't already have listed. Before you send us a cheat, hint, or unlockable, PLEASE check our content pages for the game. If we already have your submission listed, please don't send it to us again.
- DO know the difference between a cheat, a hint, and an unlockable. A cheat or cheat code is a key sequence, password, or series of steps in a game that unlock, reveal, or give you something secret or hidden that wouldn't have otherwise been available to you. An example would be list of controller buttons to hit in a certain order to skip a level, unlock a new car, or activate a specific mode (like being invisible, bulletproof, extra fast, etc.). A hint or tip is a piece of information that helps someone figure out where to go or how to accomplish something difficult in a game, such as "the magic wand is hiding behind the third three on level 8." An unlockable is information that tells what you need to accomplish in a game to unlock a certain costume, track, car, or otherwise provide access to something that requires a certain achievement in the game before it is accessible to you.
- DO submit your cheat, hint, or unlockable directly from a content page. By submitting your item directly from the content page that it applies to, you make things easier for both you and our Content Staff. First, the game's correct name and platform will be automatically inserted into the submission form, which lets us process your submission faster. Second, going to the code or hint page lets you browse through the existing codes and hints to make sure your submission isn't already listed.
Things to NOT DO:
- DO NOT submit stuff we already have. That wastes both your time and ours. Please check our content pages before you send them to us!
- DO NOT submit useless items. By useless, we mean cheats or hints that are of no help to anyone. "Hit the start button to begin a new game" is a seriously lame hint. Yes - we really get submissions like that. Don't make yours one of them!
- DO NOT submit fake codes or hints. Some people think it's funny to submit fake codes that don't really do anything. We test as many cheats as we can, but every now and then one will slip through the cracks. If we receive an adequate number of "broken code" reports, we delete the submission and (depending on how often a person has submitted fake codes) we may ban a visitor from posting future codes or deactivate a member's account.
- DO NOT use HTML tags in your submission. We accept text only, and we strip out any HTML tags for security.
- DO NOT use inappropriate language. We have some young visitors, and they don't want to read a bunch four-letter words. Come to mention it, we don't either!
