Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4-GC Copyright to Grant Riehm [email protected] Grant Riehm Section 1- Introduction and controls Section 2- The main review Section 3- Cheats, codes and hints Section 4- Future Tony Hawk games Section 1 Tony Hawk( for which the game is named after) is a very talented professional vert skater. Also, he is the inspiration for a series of popular video games, Tony hawk pro skater. These games have appeared on the Game boy, Game boy advance, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, and many other gaming systems. Right now, I am talking about the most recent Tony hawk Pro skater(THPS) game, THPS 4. The game is made by Activision and Neversoft. It is rated T for teen by MPAA for Blood, Mild Lyrics, and violence. THPS4 is One player or 2 player simultaneous. It requires a Gamecube memory card to save. Here are the basic controls for THPS 4. To crouch/ollie- A button= gives skater more speed if held down. When u want to jump, just release the A button. To manual- press up and down using the control stick very quickly= allows u to connect your grinds and tricks together, useful for combos. Grab tricks- Press X while in the air(usually off of a vert ramp) and use the control stick. Using different directions on the control stick with X makes different tricks,(for example= X and down on the control stick = tailgrab) Flip tricks- Press B while in the air and different directions on the control stick make different flip tricks(like with grab tricks)(for example, X and left = kickflip) Grind= press the Y button when u have ollied onto a rail. Lip tricks- skate straight onto the edge of a vert, not at an angle and press y(if u are at an angle, u will grind instead) Section 2 THPS 4 is a brilliant game. It is very much like its predecessors, but it is much different in the aspects that you arent timed on a particular course, only timed in the goals. In THPS 3,2, and 1, u had a certain amount of time to complete as many goals as possible on a course. But on THPS 4, You get an unlimited amount of time on the course. The goals are still timed, but they are timed separately from the course, which I see as an improvement. You get more playing and less fiddling around on menus etc. The One-Player action is greatly improved. Not only the career game, but the create-a-skater and Build your own park are both much better than in previous games. More options. Career is most likely the greatest part of the game. I have spent hours on the career. Not only winning the game, but attempting to get EVERY goal in the game. Two-player, however, is not the same story. Although it has plenty of action with its different game modes and has two new game modes, the free skate and trick attack were disappointing. All of the interaction( such as the extra people walking and things happening) is gone in the two player. For example, on the Zoo level there are no animals in the cages, but there are in one-player. There are no people walking around, no cars driving around on city levels, etc, etc. The extra options were phenomenal. Movies for EVERY skater and also a few extra were included in the options, although you have to unlock them before you can watch them. There is also an option for codes(see section 3). And you can chose if you want blood and many other basic options. The levels and skaters themselves have been brought to life. The graphics of this game surpass all of its predecessors and many other games that have just been released. Also, there are more levels in THPS 4. Extra to the normal 7 levels on THPS, there also 2 secret levels- The carnival and Chicago. Chicago is a great 2 player level. And since so much is going on in the carnival, its a good one-player level. Section 3 Now we get to the good stuff- cheats and hints. Probably the single most important code in THPS 4, is watch_me_xplode(with no apostrophes). It unlocks countless codes. Everything- perfect rail, perfect manual, perfect skitch, big head mode, invisible mode, super blood mode.......it goes on and on. To see the list of the codes that it unlocks, when u r playing, press start. Then options. Then codes. You will see a list of codes with the word off next to them. If you highlight a code and press A it will switch from off to on and it will be activated and vice versa. So even if you unlock a code, you must activate it also to make it work. Here are a few taunts. Do them while you r standing still. No Way Taunt: press L1+R1+X. Your Daddy Taunt: Press L1+R1+B. Props Taunt: Press L1+R1+Y. Get Some Taunt: Press L1+R1+A. Heres a few other codes: giantsteps= moon gravity 2wheelin= perfect manual well, You dont need any codes really. Because you can unlock them all with watch_me_xplode. Here are a few extra skaters. If you enter one of these names in create-a-skater then you will get a pre-made skater #$%@! It is called THPS underground. Activision promises very good things such as- the ability to get off your board and walk around. But the one thing that caught my eye was this. You can create a skater and then take him on the hard road to becoming a pro. It sounds great and Im sure that the graphics wont be disappointing.
