Castlevania was one of the best, if not the best, launch game for the Game Boy Advance. It included a level-up system similar to an RPG, the adventure similar to Metroid, and the appeal of Zelda. Needless to say, Castlevania was a sleeper title. I thank you for stumbling upon this FAQ while others by more popular authors like Dallas and Croco are up. That's not saying this one is better or worse then the others-that's for you to decide. Castlevania is a very, very long game, and looking at the screen that long and even looking at this walkthrough, which is just plain black and white text, will hurt your eyes. If that happens, immediately save or stop reading, go have a soda, eat something, "freshen up" and come back to the game. Besides, if you ruin your eyes now, what will you ruin when you play GameCube? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2) Updates =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 8/27/01(Version 1.0)-Submitted the first version of this FAQ. It is the full and complete version. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3) Story =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The year is 1830. In an ancient castle on the outskirts of the Austrian empire, a demon lord that would unite the powers of darkness was being resurrected at the hand of a fiend yearing for chaos. At this demonic castle, Camilla, one of Dracula's minions, began the incantation of a ritual to bring her lord Dracula back to life. The vampire hunter Morris and his two apprentices, Nathan and Hugh, sensed an abnormality in the balance of nature and rushed to prevent Dracula's unholy reemergence. "That unholy monster must never return!" However, they returned too late to prevent Dracula's return from his confinement. Dracula used his magical powers to imprison Morris, and cast Nathan and Hugh into a graveyard underneath the demonic castle. Together the two began to search through the castle in order to vanquish Dracula and to rescue their master. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 4) Controls =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= To stay alive in Castlevania, and even perform summons later in the game, you need to know the controls like the back of your hand. Control Pad-Control your character. Move character around the screen and direct jumps. A Button-Jump, confirm selection on screen B Button-Attack, cancel selection on screen. R Button-Use your special move(used in conjunction with control pad). L Button-Activate/Deactivate DSS. Start Button-Pause game, display quest screen. Select Button-Display map. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 5) Characters =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Who's that, which character gives me what.....in RPGs, knowing the characters is everything. Here's my own little character guide, free for you to take a look at. Nathan Graves-The hero of the game. You'll control him throughout Castlevania, with only a trusty whip and array of magic cards that you must find. He's been the one chosen by Morris Baldwin to be given the Hunter's Whip. Hugh Baldwin-Your "rival" in the game. He's jealous of you, and belives you are too weak to fight beside him and have the Hunter's Whip. He carries a sword as his primary weapon. Morris Baldwin-Hugh's father and a good friend to Nathan's parents. He and Mr. and Mrs. Graves both successfully eliminated Dracula 10 years ago. Morris does not favor his son, and has chosen Nathan as his successor. Dracula-Sealed 10 years ago by 3 vampire killers, Dracula hopes to use Morris' energy to fully revive himself and conquer the night again. Camilla-A demon in disguise, Camilla is the one who sucessfully resurrected Dracula. You'll fight her in the game as boss, where she'll give you trouble both reaching her and fighting her. For a complete list of enemies, check out the Enemy List section. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 6) Castle Areas =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Traveling through the entire castle of Dracula will be very tedious, and you'll pass a lot of areas along the way. This section will give you an idea of what you're up for in each area. Some are connceted to others, so don't get the idea they're all spread out. You'll be returning to many of them a lot, but the area name won't appear like they did the first time you entered the area. Catacomb-The first area of the game, the monsters here are very weak-but so are you. Mostly made up Skeletons, Bone Heads, Poison Worms, and Gremlins, you should be able to level up quickly. Watch out for the Earth Demons, though. Abyss Stairway-A long, vertical hallway, mostly made up of ledges and Bone Heads. Climb to the top-there's no where else to go. Audience Room-The "main" part of the castle. It connects to many other areas. You'll find yourself returning here a lot. Outer Wall-Not really too big of a area, but it is littered with Devil Towers and and Axe Armors. Be on your toes with electric skeletons-they can take a big chunk out of your HP if you're not at a high enough level. Machine Tower-Use gears and your instincts to survive Fox Hunters, Heat Shades, and Medusa Heads. Good luck stay on the moving platforms and dodging attacks at the same time. Eternal Corridor-A very long, horizontal hallway littered with the strongest enemies you have seen yet. This area marks the halfway point of the game-that's not many save areas ahead, and the enemies are going to get much tougher. Chapel Tower-A large, verticle tower. Easily one of the biggest areas of the game. There's only 3 save points here-and hundreds of enemies. Be cautious. Underground Gallery-Be prepared for poison fun! Stock up on antidotes and charge through the first of 3 underground areas. Underground Warehouse-You'll have to solve many box puzzles in this area. The good news is that once you've solved them, they stay solved-permantly. Watch out for those beam-shooting Holy Armors! Underground Waterway-The last and perhaps hardest of the Underground areas. Make sure you have the cleansing item from Death to easily travel through this area. You'll be going up against water and ice creatures here-if you get frostbite, thaw out quickly! Observation Tower-Packed with incredibly strong monsters and only one save point, the Observation Tower is the hardest area of the game. Not only is it huge, but around every corner is a powerful demon. Enter at your own risk. Ceremonial Room-The place where you're final showdown with Dracula takes place. Defeat him and save your Master! Battle Arena-This area is hell. No magic, and you can't heal or take a break in the 17 rooms. However, your efforts will be rewarded with the Shining Armor, the game's best armor, if you can brave the entire arena. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 7) Important In-Game Information =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -Your stats are very important to know. How much damage you inflict on an enemy depends on your STR stat. This can either be through physical attacks, or through magic attacks. How much damage you take from an enemy depends on your DEF stat. Your INT stat tells you how fast your MP will recharge, and your LCK stat tells you what chance you have to finding an item or card once you've killed an enemy. Your INT and LCK do not interfere when you do magic-you don't get lucky and get some super attack while using magic. Your stats go up when you level up, and you can also use items to improve them. Your stats will only stay improved when you use the item, so don't think you can take it off and still have the effect. -There are a couple status changes that can occur when you're playing the game. If you touch poison, you will be poisoned. Poison knocks off a bit off your health every second. As you can see, this can be very annoying. You can either wait for the poison to wear off, or use an antidote to restore your status immediately. If you are touched by a Medusa or an Evil Pillar's projectile, you will be turned to stone. Keep hitting left and right on the control pad to return to normal, or just let an enemy touch you. If you touch a Legion or Marionette, you will be cursed, where you can't attack anymore. Use Cure Curse to return to normal. Poison and Curse can also be cured at the save room. -Save Points are large statues with a shrinking red ball in them. Walk up to one and press up on the control pad to restore your health and MP, and be given a choice to save. -Unlike other Castlevania games, when you beat a boss, you do not get full health-you must find a save point to receive full health. -Killing monsters gives you exprience. To level up, you must have a certain amount of experience. To see how much exp each monster gives you, check out the Enemy List in this FAQ. -Bosses are signaled by a large blue-bordered door. Make sure to save and have full health before you enter a boss room. -You can mix and match two DSS cards(one action and one attribute) on the DSS screen in the sub-menu. To see what each combination does and it's effects on both enemies and you, see this FAQ's DSS section. -If you can't do an ability, like do two jumps in the air, run, or push boxes early in the game, don't worry! You will gain the skill by beating a boss later in the game. -If you can't beat a boss, level up some more! It can't hurt. Also, try to find a DSS combo that will strengthen your attack or provide more defense. Anything that will help you take him out faster, or let you last longer. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 8) Items =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Where would you be without items? Armor, recovery, you name it-Castlevania has it. Here's a complete list of items and their stats. Not all of the armors, clothes, and rings are acquirable in the early game-so if you get Leather Armor and have nothing else, put it on-it gives you more then you had before. You can use them against bosses to attack from far away, or use them to tackle enemies when you're low on health. Whatever the cause, make sure you have the right sub-weapon in the right situation. Dagger-Flies straight forward, and when comes in contact with enemy, stops. Primitive, yet useful. Axe-You chuck it in the air, and it loops downward. Good for enemies beneath you, but a very short range if they're next to you. Holy Water-You throw it on the ground in front of you, and it does splash damage on the enemies around it. Useful, but again short-ranged. Boomerang-The best sub-weapon. It's fast, has a long range, does good damage, and comes back to you. If you can get it to turn around on an enemy, the enemy will pick up extra damage. The Boomerang is only found at the end of the Triumph Hallway and right before the door to enter the Battle Arena. Clock-Useful in areas where you're jumping from moving platforms with enemies all around (coughmachinetowercough). It stops all enemies on the screen for a certain time. You can use Pluto and Salamander to make a Super Sub-Item Attack. Very useful when facing big amounts of enemies, or hard bosses. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 10) Abilities =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Most of these abilities are gained after beating a boss. You'll usually have to come back to an area to reach a previously inaccessible item. There are a lot of these spots, so it's pretty hard to remember all of them. Most of them usually contain a Max Increase Item, so take a look at that section for details. Whip-Your main weapon. Press your regular attack button to use it. You start the game with it. Jump-Basic jump. Press the jump button to execute it. You begin the game with it. Walk-Press left or right on the control pad to walk. You can do it at the beginning(well, how else were you going to move?) Slide-Hold down, then press A to slide across the floor. You can do it right off the bat. SubWeapon-Hold up, and hit the attack button to use your subweapon. It will be either a knife, axe, holy water, a clock, or a boomerang, depending on what you have. Dash(Dash Boots)-Tap left or right twice on the control pad to dash. You need to find the Dash Boots in the Catacombs to do so. Double Jump(Gravity Stone)-Press A while in the air to perform another jump. You must beat the first boss to gain this item. Magic Tackle-Press R to execute this move. It is mainly used to break stone blocks but you can also attack enemies with it. You must beat the second boss to gain this ability. Wall Kick(Wall Kick Boots)-Press while adjacent to a wall to kick off it and reach new heights. You must defeat the third boss to gain this ability. Push Boxes(Heavy Ring)-You can push those brown-borded crates around with the Heavy Ring. Defeat the fifth boss to get it. Cleansing-Just land in poisoned water to cleanse it. You must defeat the sixth boss to be granted this ability. Fly(Roc's Wing)-Hold up and hit R to soar upwards. Keep repeating until you are high enough for your needs. Defeat the seventh boss to get this ability. Last Key-Unlock the door to the ceremonial room, where Dracula and your Master awaits. You must beat the eighth boss to use this. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 11) Bosses =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Here is the basic info for each boss: Name Location Hit Points Experience | | | Cerberus | Catacomb | 600 | 500 Necromancer | Audience Room | 500 | 2,500 Iron Golem | Machine Tower | 1,000 | 8,000 Adramelech | Chapel Tower | 1,800 | 16,000 Twin Dragons| Undergroud Gallery | 1,400 Each | 15,000 Each Death |Underground Warehouse| 1,760 | 60,000 Camilla |Underground Waterway | 1,500 | 80,000 Hugh Baldwin| Observation Tower | 2,800 | 120,000 Dracula 1 | Ceremonial Room | 1,200 | 150,000 Dracula 2 | Ceremonial Room | 3,000 | N/A Now, for strategies on how to beat each one: Cerberus-He'll shoot white lasers from his mouth when he's above you, and will dash at you when he turns red. Duck in front to avoid the charge, then whip him good. To avoid the lasers, get under or behind him, and his heads won't reach you. I suggest Level 6 to take this guy on. Defeat him to win the Gravity Stone. Necromancer-This guy doesn't want to die. Once you put 250 damage on him(he has 500 HP) he will change to his skeleton form. Both will summon monsters, and use dark energy to attack you. Hard if you're not at a high level. Try to level up to Level 12 for him. Defeat him to win the Magic Tackle. Iron Golem-He'll pound the ground, knocking gears to the floor. Jump when he pounds, then try to dodge the falling gears. Use the boomerang to put on extra damage, and hit him with your whip every chance you get, since he heals himself also. Just don't let him grab you, and you'll be fine. Defeat him to win the Wall Kick Boots. Adramelech-Have either the knife or the boomerang as your subweapon. Stand on the platform far to the right, and start chucking your subweapon like heck at him. The skulls will stay under you, but the blue energy balls you have to dodge. After you run out of hearts, dodge his attacks, then run in, attack, retreat, dodge, run in, etc. until he's defeated. Defeat him to destroy 2 statues blocking future areas. Twin Dragons-Equip Mars and Mandragora and hop down to the bottom. Pick a dragon, then slide under it's head when it comes in your direction. Attack when you can, and keep sliding to avoid being hurt. After one dies, the other will eat it, recovering some HP. Defeat this one in the same manner. If you need to heal, retreat to the top(under a doorwat) and heal with Jupiter and Mandragora. Defeat them to win the Heavy Ring. Death-Equip a shield(poison is perferred) to eliminate the flying blades. Avoid his legs, and never stop attacking him. After he takes some damage, he'll transform into a spider-creature on the ground. Chuck the boomberang at him, and keep your shield on. After awhile, Death will be brought down. Defeat him to win the Cleansing Item. Camilla-Great strategy here! Stand on the central platform(the highest) and turn on the poison shield. Duck down. She'll fly under you on her skull, and take damage. She can't attack you, since her bubbles will be destroyed by the shield, and you will never come to your height. To get rid of her faster, chuck axes down at her. Defeat her to win the Roc's Wing. Hugh-At the beginning of the battle, you can easily whip him, back up a bit and avoid his sword, then whip him again, back away, etc. After he gets power from Dracula, he'll be faster. Try to summon the Thunderbird or Cockatrice to deal with him, and use your sub-weapons. Occasionally, you should get in close with your whip, but try to avoid his attacks too. Defeat him to win the Last Key. Dracula 1-This one is easy. Jump over the three bats, then whip him or summon the Thunderbird. All of his attacks are easy to avoid, so just dodge and attack. Defeat him to rescue your master. Dracula 2-You gotta hit the eye here, and only when it's open. Summoning the Thunderbird is a good way to deal with it-you'll be invincible too. Now after he receives 1,500 damage, he'll start charging you(dodge with Roc's Wing), and only after his third charge will the eyeball open up. As soon as he charges you for the third time, summon Thunderbird. The eye will be in for a shocking suprise. Defeat him to beat the game. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 12) Walkthrough =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- This section holds the walkthrough for the game. It does contain spoilers however; so you may just want to get past the game on your own. Of course, you should do that in the first place, since you just spent 40 dollars on the game. This is a very long game, and your first time through may be a little confusing-don't worry, the castle is huge, and everybody gets lost the first time. I will list the conversations that take place between the characters. If you're like me and like to see conversations and cut-scenes again, this will be a nice little feature for you. Beginning Game Camilla: We craze the presence of the embodiment of suffering, the ruler of darkness! Dracula: I have waited for this moment, to be awake again. To bask in darkness and feel the moonlight within. Camilla: Count Dracula, I am honored to be in your presence. Dracula: Indeed. Though I lack my full power. Camilla: We are preparing the rite to replenish your power... Morris Baldwin: Stop! You cannot be allowed to taint the world! Dracula: You.....I remember..You were one of the vampire killers that sealed me. You've aged. Morris Baldwin: It is our duty to see you banished. Dracula: Amusing, to use my nemesis' life to return to my power. I have no use for children. Be gone! (Hugh and Nathan fall down a large pit) Morris Baldwin: Hugh! Nathan! Nathan Graves: Master! Hugh Baldwin: Father! Nathan Graves: Hmmm.....no creatures around here. Hugh, are you okay? Hugh Baldwin: Yeah. We were just brushed aside and ignored... Nathan Graves: We have to find Master. Hugh Baldwin: I'll go. He's my father. Nathan, you'll be in the way. Just get out of here. (Hugh leaves Nathan) Nathan Graves: I want to find Master as much as anybody. (Control shifts to player) Walk right, then fall down. Use the platforms below you as stepping stones, then kill the Skeleton Bomber. Head right now, and kill another bomber. Head left, then down, and kill another bomber. Now jump down onto the platoforms, and kill a couple mroe skeleton bombers. This area is to get you used to jumping and attacking. If you don't have the Salamander card by the time you exit to the right, exit, then come back and kill the bombers again until you get the card. Then exit right. Catacomb Walk right, then kill the skeleton bomber. Continue right and kill two more. Destroy the torches for hearts, then walk down the ramp and kill the bats. After that, head down and to the right on the ramp. Kill some more skeleton bombers, then jump up and keep hitting the poison worm nest on the ceiling until it burns up. Twirl your whip(hold B) to eliminate all the poison worms that fell, then kill the next skeleton bomber. Jump up and kill some bats, then head right and jump up to the ramp. Follow it to the doorway, then enter that and save your game. Now you'll want to go back out, and not go down at all. Kill the Bone heads along your previous path, exiting the area once they're dead, then reentering. Soon, you'll get the Mercury card. Go to your DSS sub-screen on the start menu, and you can match the two up. While in-game, you can press L to activate/deactivate your fire whip. This will make the first areas much easier. Head down the ramp, then to the right. Slide(down and A) through the skeleton bombers and poison worms. Exit to the right. In this room, you'll find the Earth Demon. You shouldn't try to defeat him now, just time your jumps over his spikes that rise from the ground. Just keeping walking right until you reach the dash boots. Now you can run by hitting a direction on the control pad twice. Now jump on the red platform to your left, then jump on the enxt one. Kill the bats to your left, then run and jump right. Exit through the door. Your best move would to be to slide through this area. The sliding will kill the skeletons, zombies, and poison worms. If not already, you should be at Level 2 now. After heading right far enough, you can exit this area. Drop down to the bottom path, and enter another area. Run past the Earth Demon's spikes, then slide under the narrow space to get a Heart Max Increse. Slide back under, and exit through the entrance. Now climb up the platforms. There should be some ground on the right side, with a bone head hanging from the top, and a skeleton on the platform underneath it. Once you reach that, head into the doorway on the right and save your game. Exit this room through the entrance, and head up on the platforms, and heading to the right. Uee the upper-right entrance in the ceiling to exit. Now head to the left, and kill the skeleton bombers. Use the platforms and ledges to climb up to the topmost ledge; then run to the left, jumping over bone heads and spirits. Exit through the open space on the left, then when in the next room, try to stay on the platforms; if you're on the bottom, mudmen will deal with you. Then use a "T" shaped ledge to escape this area, and jump to the topmost ledge on the other side to enter a room with a save point. Save your game. Now exit the save room and fall to the bottom. Exit to the left, then fall all the way down, run left, then jump up and go to the room on your left. Kill all the mummies, and when they stop coming out, kill the coffins. Do this for four coffins, then run all the way to the left and smash the torch to grab the Holy Water sub-item. Exit this room through the right. Now just use the platforms to climb all the way up, then enter the room through the blue-bordered door. Your first boss fight! Check the boss section for details on this boss. After you beat the boss, run to the left and open the door. Walk left and grab the Gravity Stone, which will allow you to double-jump. While in the air, press A to perform another jump. Now head back to the closest save room, save your game, then return to the mummy room. When you head all the way to the left, use your double-jumps to climb all the way up. When you reach the top, head through the door on the left. Abyss Stairway When you first enter, drop all the way down, and you'll be on a ramp in the Catacombs. Now jump to the ramp next to you, and head up the other side of the Stairway. Use the platforms to climb all the way up, then exit through the top. Now climb up the ledges and the crumbling platforms, while killing boneheads. When you spot the third bonehead, head into the area on the right and save your game. Now climb a couple more ledges, then exit to the right. Run up the ramp, then jump from ledge to ledge, while taking time to kill the skeletons and gremlins. Keep going up until you reach a fork in the stairway. Take the right path(the left is a short dead-end) and when you reach the platform above you, go left, then continue climbing ledges. Exit through the top once you reach it. Audience Room Run up the ramp and head to the right. Enter the door, then kill the slime and Axe Armor there. If you don't receive the Venus card the first time, exit and re-enter until you do. Once you do, leave the room. Now head left this time, and kill the Axe Armor. Now while in this room, drop down to the middle long ledge(not the small ones sticking out of the sides) and walk left, then climb up the other side of ledges. When you're at the top, walk right, and you should see a door. Enter it, and kill the Skeleton Soldiers and Axe Armor. Continue right, and you'll see two more axe armors and more skeleton soldiers. Kill them, then run right, and jump up to the first ledge. Enter the room to the right and save your game. Now exit through the top exit of the room you were previously in, then navigate the ramps and ledges in the next room to exit through the top. Outer Wall Head right, and stay on the broken ledges, or you'll have to start all over again from the beginning of the Outer Wall. Kill the Skeletons and Will o Wisps, then exit through the ledge on the right. Head right and stay on the ledges again, and kill the skeleton bombers. After 4 or so ledges, you can exit through a hole in the floor. Head down the ramp, drop off, then run and jump to reach another ledge on the left. Exit through the left. Go in and press Up at the doorway. Once you're warped, exit to the right, stand on the switch to destroy a barrier and create a shortcut. Now go back through the warp. Go back down the ramp, and now to the right. Kill the skeleton soldiers and electric skeletons, then exit through a hole in the floor. Now head right, and exit there. Fall down the ramps, and exit through the left. Now head right, and kill all the Axe Armors and Devil Towers. Climb up the ramps, and keep going right until you reach the exit. Run down the ramp, then jump off and land on the bottom-most level. Kill the devil tower and the electric skeleton, then run to the right and save your game. Now just climb up all the platforms, and quickly jump between crumbling ledges until you reach the boss door. Enter it and equip the Venus and Salamander DSS Combo. Necromancer: Extraordinary! We want to change your world into something more appropriate... There's no great difference between your world and ours. Nathan Graves: Don't be so full of yourself! Camilla: If you'd just release the darkness hidden in your heart, you'd be able to experience a wonderful world. Nathan Graves: Shut up! Camilla: You're just like that other boy was... He was full of integrity. The Master and I took an interest in him... Ha ha ha! Nathan Graves: What? What have you done to Hugh? See the boss section for details on how to beat Camilla easily. Nathan Graves: He's being controlled... By Camilla? No, by Dracula!! See the boss section for details on how to beat Hugh. After the fight.. Nathan Graves: Please stop! I don't want to hurt you any further! Hugh!! Hugh Baldwin: Nathan? Ahh, ow, I... ...Thank you... I heard you, your voice was calling to me... Nathan Graves: ...Hugh. Are you all right? Hugh Baldwin: Nathan... I was jealous of you. Nathan Graves: !? Hugh Baldwin: I was afraid that there'd be no need for me, what with the attention my father gave you. I justed wanted to be noticed... Nathan Graves: Enough... It's okay... Hugh Baldwin: My father saw that darkness in my heart. So he chose you... Nathan Graves: Stop, Hugh. Hugh Baldwin: It's okay. Now, even I understand that my father's choice was right. Heh... Don't make me embarrass myself further. My Dad... Nathan, save our master. Please. Nathan Graves: All right. But that love will soon be transformed into evil. I'd expect you possess it, too. The darkness in your heart... Nathan Graves: What are you saying? Dracula: To rise above everything... To accomplish all you desire... Nathan Graves: ! Dracula: ...To have everyone's affection... ...Wouldn't you strike down your peers for such things? Your friend was thinking about it. I gave power to that darkness within him. Nathan Graves: You bastard!! Toying with people's hearts! I won't allow it! See the boss section for details on how to beat Dracula's first form. Once he's defeated... Dracula: Power... My full strength... Nathan Graves: What the!? Morris Baldwin: Go after him! We can't let him escape! Damn... Nathan Graves: !! Hugh Baldwin: I'll take care of my father. You go after Dracula! Nathan Graves: All right. You two go on ahead and escape from the castle. Hugh Baldwin: Beat Dracula. And, make sure you get out. Now step into the ray of light and go to face Dracula's second form. See the boss section for details on how to beat his second form. After the fight.... Dracula: It is a wasted effort. I will never be truely gone. So long as there is darkness and desire in the soul of a man, I will continue to be revived. Nathan Graves: And we wiill be there to stop you. You can count on that. (Castle crumbles) (Outside the castle) Nathan Graves: Master, are you well? Morris Baldwin: Nathan? Thank you. You did well. ... You have become a hunter in your own right. Hugh, I need to thank you as well. But your training must begin anew. Hugh Baldwin: I know father. I will train like I was reborn to become worthy. Now head right, then climb onto another platform and head all the way left. Jump up to a slightly elevated platform, the fly up with Roc's Wing. Head left, then down, and exit through the left. In the next room, head all the way up, then when on the top platform, drop down on the left and push the box out of the way. Exit through the left. In this next room, head all the way left, killing the hyenas and the other enemies. Exit through the left, then in the next room, kill the grizzlies and other enemies. When the path splits, take the lower path and activate the Warp Gate. Then exit to the previous room, and take the upper path. In this room, fly all the way up to the first ledge, then fall down on the left side. Quickly run to the right and enter the room through the door. Now head up to the top ledge, and smash the torch nearest to the door to get the cross. Now, enter the door to the right to enter the battle arena. In this Battle Arena guide, I will list how many enemies per room, and how much experience they give you, so you can see if you can make it through the whole thing. Bear in mind there are emergency exits along the way that you can use to exit. Room One ---------- Enemies Exp per Each Were-Jaguar 1,200 Were-Wolf 1,100 Very easy. Attack with your whip, then jump when they charge. A few shots of your whip and you'll be fine. Room Two --------- Enemies Exp per Each Catoblepas x2 2,000 Hippogriff x2 1,900 A bit harder. You'll have to dodge the Catoblepas's snorts on the ground, while watching for the Hippogriff's in the air. I suggest throwing the boomering for the Catoblepas, then dealing with the Hippogriffs with your whip. Room Three ------------- Enemies Exp per Each Wind Demo x2 4,000 Witch x3 1,000 Both enemies are in the air. You can try the summon trick to put on some damage here, or just deal with them with your boomerang and whip. Again, not too hard, just a warm-up. Room Four ------------ Enemies Exp per Each Devil Tower x12 600 Stone Armor x3 3,000 Try to take out all the devil towers on a pillar in one jump-it will save you time. Once the towers are dealt with, focus on the armors. Memorize their pattern, then dodge their attack and counterattack. Room Five ------------ Enemies Exp per Each Skeleton x5 500 Skeleton Bomber x5 550 Electric Skeleton x3 700 Skeleton Spear x4 600 Oh dear, skeletons. The ones that could give you trouble are electric skeleton and skeleton spear, by catching you off-guard, or just landing from dodging the other's attack. You can also fire the boomerang, and jump, letting it do it's work. Room Six ----------- Enemies Exp per Each Bone Tower x7 800 Flame Demon x2 6,980 Deal with the bone towers first-they'll give you trouble while jumping and landing. After that, it will be easy to take out the flame demons once you get their pattern down. Room Seven ------------- Enemies Exp per Each Fox Hunter x5 600 Soooooo easy. Just slide across the whole passage. By ducking, you'll avoid their attacks. Just slide through them all. Room Eight ------------ Enemies Exp per Each Bloody Sword x3 2,000 Poison Armor x3 3,600 Throw your boomerang at the armors on the ground, then jump up and whip the bloody swords. Use your antidotes to cure your poison status, since you can't heal in the Battle Arena. Room Nine ------------ Enemies Exp per Each Abiondarg x24 588 Easy. Just slide through them, like the Fox Hunters. They can't attack you, so if you stay on the offensive, you'll be fine. Room Ten ------------ Enemies Exp per Each Legion x2 2,900 Marionette x12 1,200 Destroy the legions first, then focus on the Marionettes. Use your boomerang, or summons using the DSS glitch. Use cure curse since you need to atack in this room. Room Eleven -------------- Enemies Exp per Each Minotaur x7 4,100 Toss your boomerang, then jump over the blades of the Minotaurs. Try not to take on more then one at a time, or whenever you'll land, you'll be hit by an attack. You can also try to summon a creature to take care of these guys. Room Twelve ------------- Enemies Exp per Each Arachne x3 2,400 Succubus x3 Toss the boomerang at the Arachnes to be safe and not get caught in their web. Then jump up and use either your boomerang or whip to attack a succumbus. Room Thirteen --------------- Enemies Exp per Each Alraune x2 5,000 Demon Lord x5 4,200 Stand right next to a demon lord, and it's fiery breath will not hit you. Keep attacking untilit's destroyed. Use your boomerang for the Alraunes. Room Fourteen --------------- Enemies Exp per Each Hyena x8 1,000 Drop into their little "sided" conversation, and slide into both sides. If any remain, deal with them with your whip. Try not to let them hurt you, since this is an easy room late in the arena. You can't afford extra damage. Room Fifteen -------------- Enemies Exp per Each Evil Pillar x12 1,500 Devil Armor x3 Toss a boomerang at the Devil Armors, then jump in te air to attack the evil pillars and to avoid the Devil Armor attack. If you're lucky, you might get a Black Dog card from the Devil Armor. Repeat until all the enemies are gone, then head to the second-to-last room of the Battle Arena! Room Sixteen -------------- Enemies Exp per Each White Armor x3 7,000 Jump over their sword beams, then whip them and boomerang them. Since you'll have 3 beams coming in, one after another, use Roc's Wing to fly to the top to dodge them all. If you're lucky, you might snag a Unicorn card. After they're all gone, proceed to the last room of the Battle Arena!!!! Room Seventeen ----------------- Enemies Exp per Each Devil 30,000 This is it. The Devil is one of the strongest enemies in the game. You can try and summon to put damage on him if you're low on health, Otherwise, fly to the ceiling to avoid his columns of purple fog, then when you come back down, throw the boomerang at him. Mainly, you should jump and use Roc's Wing to dodge his fog attacks, while staying away and chucking the Boomerang at him. He might kill you, which will be frusteration, since you'll have to do the entire arena over again. Keep trying, and have patience, and you'll conquer this beast. Finally, enter an enemy-free room. Inside, you'll find the "Shining" Armor on a stand. Claim it. It ups your defense by 500, slightly highers STR, and slightly lowers INT and LCK. After you have claimed that item, exit the Battle Arena. Now high-tail it to a save point and save your game. You really don't want to go through that all again. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 15) Max Increase Items =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Even though your hearts, MP, and HP go up along with your level and stats, there are some Max Increase items in the game. Finding them will make your job easier, and fill up the corresponding meter(HP, MP, or hearts) once you pick it up. So here are the locations of all them in the game. When i turned it back on, my file wasn't there! A: You need to reach a save point. There's one very early in the game-look in the walkthrough for the location. ------------------------------------------------------------- Q: I can't beat [insert boss name here]! Can you help me? A: First, try leveling up a bit with the surrounding enemies. Also, try to use DSS to find something that will help you through that battle. If all else fails, keep trying, and you'll be able to dodge most of the bosses' attacks and patterns. ------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Where do I find the [insert card name here] card? A: Check out the DSS Card Guide right above this section. It tells you which enemy drops which card. ------------------------------------------------------------- Q: How can I level up quickly? What enemies give the most experience? A: You can level up quickly by beating Lilith, who gives the most experience in the game for a non-boss: 20,000. Check below for her location. If you're in the mid-80s to 90s, you can also just go back through the Battle Arena for tons of experience. ------------------------------------------------------------- Q: I reached the Underground Waterway before beating Death and getting the Cleansing Item and saved in it! What should I do? A: Well, many people have done this, and the game isn't very straightforward on telling you to go to the Twin Dragons instead of Camilla. I suggest high-tailing it out of there, cause there's almost no chance you'll make it to the next boss at your level. Go outside the save room, kill some enemies, run back in, restore your health, then repeat. Slow and tedious, but it might be the only way to get out of there alive. ------------------------------------------------------------- Q: I can't find a save room close enough to Hugh! Any suggestions? A: First of all, I suggest being over Level 40 for the Observation Tower-perferrably 43 or higher. Try to use the Warp Gate guarded by a Devil and a whole bunch of Legions to warp to a save point nearby. ------------------------------------------------------------- Q: What does the Crossroads option do at the title screen? I can't access it! A: You're not missing anything. It's the name of the Start Game screen. I think it was pretty stupid to make it the same style as the options, don't you? ------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Are there any other characters beside Nathan to play as? A: No. The HUGHHUGH code was proved a hoax, and even completing all 5 modes won't grant you a new character. ------------------------------------------------------------- Q: I'm missing some parts of my map! Where are they? A: Well, they might be the battle arena-if you haven't gone totally through it yet. Also, whip walls at weird places to open a secret entrance to a new room. ------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Are there any codes for this game? A: yes, in a way. Check below for them. They open up new modes, not give you invincibility, all weapons, etc. Sorry, but those kind of codes aren't in the game. Tough luck, cheaters. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 18) Secrets/Codes =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Unlock Magician Mode --------------------- To unlock Magician mode, beat the game on Vampire Killer Mode and start a new file with the name "FIREBALL". You'll start the game with jacked up MP, weak STR and DEF stats, high INT stats, and all the DSS Cards. Beginning Stats: STR-71 DEF-50 INT-400 LCK-100 HP-50 MP-400 Unlock Fighter Mode ---------------------- To unlock fight mode, beat the game on Magician mode and start a new file with the name, "GRADIUS". You'll start the game with jacked up STR and DEF stats, and will find no DSS Cards in the game. Beginning Stats: STR-141 DEF-200 INT-50 LCK-100 HP-100 MP-100 Unlock Shooter Mode ---------------------- To unlock shooter mode, beat the game on Fighter mode and start a new file with the name, "CROSSBOW". You'll start with a lot of hearts, and when you level up, your hearts will go up by 10 instead of 2. Beginning Stats: STR-71 DEF-50 INT-100 LCK-100 HP-50 MP-100 Start with 250 hearts, can pick up two daggers to make a homing dagger. Unlock Thief Mode -------------------- To unnlock thief mode, beat the game on Shooter mode and start a new file with the name, "DAGGER". You'll start with dropped STR, DEF, and INT, and jacked up LCK. Beginning Stats: STR-71 DEF-50 INT-100 LCK-1600 HP-50 MP-50 Lilith ---------- Lilith(not the one from Frasier) is a strong demon in the Underground Warehouse who gives you 20,000 exp every time you kill her-the most in the game for a non-boss enemy. To find her, beat Camilla, then return to the long, vertical hallway with succumbus' flying around. Under the ledge of the top exit, jump down, then whip the wall. Inside is Lilith. Use a summon on her to defeat her(usually 2 summons at a weaker level). Skeleton Medalist -------------------- The skeleton medalist is an insanely fast creature that drops two of the rarest items in the game: the Toy Ring and the Bear Ring. The Bear Ring will transform you into a bear if you use the Pluto + Black Dog combo while wearing it. To find the Skeleton Medalist, ge the Roc's Wing, then fall down the pit at the beginning of the game. Keep whipping the wall on the left side until you break open a part. Use Roc's Wing to fly up to it, then jump up and whip the ceiling while inside. Now equip Pluto + Griffon to increase your speed, and use roc's wing to fly up through the gap. Land on the other side of the raised platform to the left of you, then use your increased speed to kill the medalist. Repeat until you have the items you need. Use Magic in Battle Arena ---------------------------- To use this, you must have a Mind High or Mind Ex in your possession. While in any room(perferrably a room with many enemies-or the Devil) use your Mind Ex, then exit the menus, activate DSS, then summon a creature(Thunderbird or Cockatrice). If you did it fast enough, the creature will appear and wipe out the enemies on the screen(or damage them). =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 19) Credits =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Nintendo, for making a system that plays this terrific game.
