1. WHAT ARE OCULI?

In Lemuria, the world of "Child of Light", Oculi are special gemstones that
give added strength or abilities when equipped. (Though not used in-game, the
single form should be "oculus".)
The glowing switches that Igniculus activates are also referred to as oculi.

In our world, "oculus" is the Latin word for "eye", and an architectural term
for a circular opening in a building's roof or wall.
For more detail, see Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oculus

2. CRAFTING OCULI

Oculi are found in treasure chests and dropped by enemies throughout the game.
However, to get more varied and powerful types, you will need to craft them.

You can combine two or three oculi at a time. There are two simple rules:

  1. Merging three identical oculi will create a stronger form of that colour.

  2. Mixing certain colours of oculi will create new colours.

Whether you merge oculi or mix colours first, it will not affect the overall
amount or type of simple oculi required to create a complex one.

In more detail:

 MERGING OCULI TO CREATE STRONGER FORMS

 3 raw oculi = 1 tumbled
   3 tumbled = 1 faceted (= 9 raw)
   3 faceted = 1 brilliant (= 27 raw)

 MIXING COLOURS TO CREATE NEW OCULI

The oculi being mixed need to be the same quality, and the resulting oculus
will also be that quality.

 Tourmaline  =  Sapphire  +  Emerald
   (teal)        (blue)      (green)

  Amethyst   =    Ruby    +  Sapphire
  (purple)        (red)       (blue)

   Citrine   =    Ruby    +  Emerald
   (gold)         (red)      (green)

   Diamond   =  Sapphire  +    Ruby    +  Emerald
   (white)       (blue)        (red)      (green)

    Onyx     = Tourmaline +  Amethyst  +  Citrine
   (black)       (teal)      (purple)     (gold)

   Spinel    =  Diamond   +   Onyx
   (brown)      (white)      (black)

Note that the colour mixing follows the rules for colours of light rather than
paint: primaries of red, blue and green, merging to white.

 SPECIAL CASE: THE PRINCESS STONE

There is one further oculus that can only be created at the highest level:
combine a Brilliant Diamond, Brilliant Onyx and Brilliant Spinel to create
a Princess Stone.

3. VALUE CHART

Each type of oculus can be "valued" by how many basic oculi - raw sapphires,
rubies and emeralds - are required to craft it.

            |   Ruby     |  Amethyst  |  Diamond   |    Onyx    |   Spinel   |

5. ELEMENTAL STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES

LIGHT is strong against Dark. There are no enemies with resistance to Light.
Equip Citrine to weapons to gain Light elemental attacks.

LIGHTNING is strong against Water.
(It is probably weak against Earth, but I haven't tested this.)
Equip Emerald to weapons to gain Lightning elemental attacks.

WATER is strong against Fire, weak to Lightning.
Equip Sapphire to weapons or armour to gain Water elemental attacks or defence.

FIRE is strong against Earth, weak to Water.
Equip Ruby to weapons or armour to gain Fire elemental attacks or defence.

EARTH is weak to Fire.
(It is probably strong against Lightning, but I haven't tested this.)
Equip Emerald to armour to gain Earth elemental defence.
