This FAQ is for Pokemon Emerald! This only consists of when you obtain your first 
Pokemon and when you beat the first GYM LEADER. Hope this helps! -frogmaster

Prologue
THE BEGINNING!
PROF. BIRCH: Hi! Sorry to keep you waiting! Welcome to the world of POKEMON.
My name is BIRCH. But everyone calls me the POKEMON PROFESSOR. This is what
we call a “POKEMON”. (Lotad comes out) This world is widely inhabited by creatures
known as POKEMON. We humans live alongside POKEMON, at times as friendly
playmates, and times as cooperative workmates. And sometimes, we band together and
battle others like us. But despite our closeness, we don’t know everything about
POKEMON. In fact, there are many, many secrets surrounding POKEMON. To unravel
POKEMON mysteries, I’ve been undertaking research. That’s what I do. And you are?
Are you a boy? Or are you a girl? (you choose with A). All right. What’s your name?
(Type in a name). So it’s (your name[yn]{choose yes or no}). Ah, okay! You’re (yn)
who’s moving o my hometown of LITTLEROOT. I get it now! All right, are you ready?
Your very own adventure is about to unfold. Take courage, and leap into the world of
POKEMON where dreams, adventure, and friendships await! Well, I’ll be expecting you
later. Come see me in my POKEMON LAB.

LITTLEROOT TOWN
“A town that can’t be shaded any hue.”
(You start out in the moving truck. At some point, it will stop and you must get out 
of it.)
MOM: (yn), we’re here honey! It must be tiring riding with our things in the moving
truck. Well, this is LITTLEROOT TOWN. How do you like it? This is our new home! It
has a quaint feel, but it seems to be an easy place to live, don’t you think? And 
you get
your own room, (yn)! Let’s go inside. 
(you go inside with your mom)
MOM: See, (yn)? Isn’t it nice in here, too? The mover’s POKEMON do all the work of
moving us in and cleaning up after. This is so convenient! (yn), your room is 
upstairs. Go
check it out, dear! Dad bought you a new clock to mark our move here. Don’t forget to
set it! 
(Go up and set it. MOM will come when you confirm the time)
MOM: (yn), how do you like your new room? Good! Everything’s put away neatly! They
finished moving everything in downstairs, too. POKEMON movers are so convenient! Oh,
you should make sure that everything’s all there on your desk.
(Go to desk and withdraw POTION from PC. Go downstairs after you got the POTION)
MOM: Oh! (yn), (yn)! Quick! Come quickly! Look! It’s PETALBURG GYM! Maybe
DAD will be on!
INTERVIEWER: ... we brough you this report from in front of PETALBURG GYM.
MOM: Oh... It’s over. I think DAD was on, but we missed him. Too bad. Oh, yes. One of
Dad’s friends lives in town. PROF. BIRCH is his name. He lives right next door, so 
you
should go over and introduce yourself.
(Go outside to other house. Go in it)
LADY: Oh, hello. And you are? ............(etc.) Oh, you’re (yn), our new next-door
neighbor! Hi! We have a daughter(son) sbout the same age as you. Our daughter(son) 
was
excited about making a new friend. Our daughter(son) is upstairs, I think.
(Go upstairs)
GIRL(BOY): Huh? Who... Who are you?......(etc.) Oh, you’re (yn). So your move was
today. Um... I’m MAY(BRENDON). Glad to meet you! I... I have this dream of
becoming friends with POKEMON all over the world. I... I heard about you, (yn) from 
my
dad, PROF. BIRCH. I was hoping that you would be nice, (yn) and we could be friends.
Oh, this is silly, isn’t it? I... I’ve just met you, (yn). Eheheh... Oh no! I 
forgot! I was
supposed to go help DAD catch some wild POKEMON! (yn), I’ll catch you later!

FAT GUY: If you use a PC, you can store items and POKEMON. The power of science is
staggering!
SKINNY GUY: PROF. BIRCH spends days in his lab studying. Then, he’ll suddenly go
out in the wild to do more research... When does PROF. BIRCH spend time at home?
GIRL: Um, hi! There are scary POKEMON outside! I can hear their cries! I want to go
see what’s going on, but I don’t have any POKEMON... Can you see what’s happening
for me? 
(go to LAB. Talk to HELPER)
ASSISTANT: Hunh? PROF. BIRCH? The PROF’S away on fieldwork. Ergo, he isn’t
here. Oh, let me explain what fieldwork is. It is to study things in the natural 
environment,
like fields and mountains, instead of a laboratory. The PROF isn’t one for doing desk
work. He’s the type of person who would rather go outside and experience things than
read about them here.

PROF. BIRCH: H-help me! (being chased by wild ZIGZAGOON) Hello! You over there!
Please! Help! In my Bag! There’s a POKE BALL! (choose a POKEMON. Be wise about
your decision, because later that will be your POKEMON.

(Fight the Zigzagoon. It’s Level 2, so it’s really a piece of cake)

PROF: Whew!... I was in the tall grass studying wild POKEMON when I was jumped.
You saved me! Thanks a lot! Oh? Hi, you’re (yn)! This is not the place to chat, so

by my POKEMON LAB later, okay?

(in lab) So, (yn)! I’ve heard so much about you from your father. I’ve heard that 
you don’t
have your own POKEMON yet. But the way you battled earlier, you pulled it off with a
plomb! I guess you have your father’s blood in you after all. Oh, yes. As thanks for
rescuing me, I’d like you to have the POKEMON you used earlier.
([yn] received the POKEMON)
PROF. BIRCH: While you’re at it, why not give a nickname to that (POKEMON)?
(choose yes or no) If you work at POKEMON and gain experience, I think you’ll make an
extremely good TRAINER. My kid, MAY(BRENDON) is also studying POKEMON
while helping me out. (yn), don’t you think it might be a good idea to go see MAY?

means to be a TRAINER.

KID IN GRASS: Wild POKEMON will jump out at you in tall grass. If you want to catch
POKEMON, you have to go into the tall grass and search.

YOUNGSTER: If POKEMON get tired, take them to a POKEMON CENTER.

Just look for our blue roof. We sell a variety of goods including POKE BALLS for
catching POKEMON. Here, I’d like you to have this as a promotional item.
(obtained the POTION)
(Route 102 will be blocked by a scientist[left], so you go up to Route 103.)
PEOPLE IN TOWN
GIRL IN HOUSE BY POKEMON CENTER(PCE): When POKEMON battle, they
eventually level up and become stronger.
BOY IN HOUSE BY PCE: If the POKEMON with you become stronger, you’ll be able
to go farther away from here.
GIRL IN PCE BY STAIRS: THE POKEMON WIRELESS CLUB on the second floor
was built recenetly. I traded POKEMON right away.
BOY BY TABLE IN PCE: POKEMON CENTERS are great! You can use their services
as much as you like, and it’s all for free. You never have to worry!
MAN BY HEALING TABLE IN PCE: That PC in the corner there is for any
POKEMON TRAINER to use. Naturally, that means you’re welcome to use it, too.
GIRL BEHIND HOUSE BY PCE: I want to take a rest, so I’m saving my progress.
SHOP WORKER(after talked to him): A POTION can be used anytime, so it’s more
useful than a POKEMON CENTER in certain situations. 
SCIENTIST BY SIGN: I finished sketching the footprints of a rare POKEMON. But it
turns out they were only my own footprints...
GIRL IN HOUSE BY POKEMART: When a POKEMON battle starts, the one at the left
of the list goes out first.So, when you get more POKEMON in your party, try switching
around the order of your POKEMON. It could give you an advantage.
GIRL IN POKEMART: I’m going to buy a bunch of POKE BALLS and catch a bunch of
POKEMON! 
BOY IN POKEMART: If a POKEMON gets hurt and loses its HP and faints, it won’t be
able to battle. To prevent you POKEMON from fainting, restore its HP with a POTION.

That’s excellent! MAY’S(BRENDON’S) been helping me with my research for a long
time. MAY (BRENDON) has an extensive history as a TRAINER already. Here, (yn), I
ordered this for my research, but I think you should have this POKEDEX. 
(obtained the POKEDEX)
PROF. BIRCH: The POKEDEX is a high-tech tool that automatically makes a record of
any POKEMON you meet or catch. My kid goes everywhere with it. Whenever my kid
catches a rare POKEMON and records its data in the POKEDEX, why, MAY
(BRENDON) looks for me while I’m out doing fieldwork , and shows me. 
MAY: Oh, wow, (yn)! You got a POKEDEX, too! That’s great! Just like me! I’ve got
something for you, too!

MAY: It’s fun if you can get a lot of POKEMON! I’m going to look all over the place

GUY: Hiya! Are you maybe... A rookie TRAINER? Do you know what POKEMON
TRAINERS do when they reach a new town? They first check what kind of GYM is in the
town. See? This is PETALBURG CITY’S GYM. This is the GYM’s sign. Look for it
whenever you’re looking for a GYM.
GYM SIGN:  PETALBURG CITY GYM LEADER: NORMAN “A man in pursuit of
power.”
(go inside GYM)
(Talk to NORMAN[dad])
DAD: Hm? Well, if it isn’t (yn)! So you’re all finished moving in? I’m surprised 
that you
managed to get here by yourself. Oh, I see. You’re with your POKEMON. Hm... Then I
guess you’re going to become a TRAINER like me, (yn). That’s great news! I’ll be
looking forward to it!
(KID enters)
KID: Um!... I... I’d like to get a POKEMON, please...
DAD: Hm? You’re... Uh... Oh, right. You’re WALLY, right?
WALLY: I’m going to go stay with my relatives in VERDANTURF TOWN. I thought I
would be lonely by myself, so I wanted to take a POKEMON along. But I’ve never caught

DAD: So, did it work out?
WALLY: Thank you, yes, it did. Here’s your POKEMON back. (yn), thank you for
coming along with me. You two are why I was able to catch my POKEMON. I promise
I’ll take really good care of it. Oh! My mom’s waiting for me, so I have to go! Bye, 
(yn)!
DAD: Now... (yn), if you want to become a strong TRAINER, here’s my advice. Head for
RUSTBORO CITY beyond this town. There, you should challenge the GYM LEADER
ROXANNE.  After her, go on to other POKEMON GYMS and defeat their LEADERS.
Collect BADGES from them. Understood? Of course, I’m a GYM LEADER, too. We’ll
battle one day, ASH. But that’s only after you become stronger.
(Go out of town and guy will get you)
GUY: Excuse me! Let me guess, from the way you’re dressed, are you a POKEMON
TRAINER? ... ... ...(etc.) Well, maybe not. Your clotjes aren’t all that dirty.

a rookie TRAINER, or maybe you’re just an ordinary kid. I’m roaming the land in 
search
of talented TRAINERS. I’m sorry to have taken your time.

LEADER. I think he called his familt over from somewhere far away.

OLD MAN IN HOUSE SOUTHWEST OF PCE: Traveling is wonderful! When I was
young, I roamed the seas and the mountains!

some POKEMON... Crawl through some damp grass... Climb rocky, rugged mountains...
Cross the raging seas... Wander about in dark caves... And, sometimes, even get a

homesick... It must be fabulous to travel!
KID BY SOUTH LAKE: My face is reflected in the water. It’s a shining grin of hope...

it could be a look of somber silence struggling with fear... What do you see

eyes, it’s a challenge to battle. If you don’t want to battle, stay out of their 
sight.
YOUNGSTER BILLY(after you battled him): I want to leave my footprints in the sand

GUY BY FISHERMAN DARIAN: The sea, huh? I wonder what it’s like at the bottom of
the sea?
FISHERMAN DARIAN (after you battled him): Hey, MAGIKARP, you sure don’t live
up to your name, do you?
LADY BY TREES: That seaside cottage is where MR. BRINEY lives. He was once a
mighty sailor who never feared the sea, however stormy.
LADY CINDY (after battled): “Hello” is the beginning of “good-bye.” I hope we meet
again.
LADY BY PATCH OF FLOWERS: You’re a thief if you try to steal someone else’s
POKEMON. You should throw POKE BALLS only at wild POKEMON. 
(You’ll notice that if you go inside MR. BRINEY’S COTTAGE, there will be no one
there. We’ll see him later on. For now, go into PETALBURG WOODS.)

The STONE BADGE heightens the ATTACK power of your POKEMON. It also enables
you to use the HM move CUT outside of battle. Please take this with you, too.

That TECHNICAL MACHINE, TM39, contains ROCK TOMB. It not only inflicts
damage by dropping rocks, it also lowers SPEED. If you use a TM, it instantly 
teaches the
move to a POKEMON. Remeber, a TM can be used only once, so think before you use it.
