1. Introduction

Welcome to my guide for Surviving High School!  I downloaded this on a lark
the other night and have been utterly hooked by it ever since.  I figured it
would be fun to write a walkthrough for it after seeing lots of questions on
the official Facebook page for the game about what the optimal/best path is
for each scenario.

This will be a spoiler-free walkthrough.  There will be no
discussion of plot or mini-games unless necessary; the mini-games are
self-explanatory and simply require practice to get better at, and a big part
of the fun of the game is enjoying the surprises that the plot holds.  Also,
unless I find myself with an enormous amount of free time on my hands (which
is not going to happen considering I both go to graduate school and work a
full-time job with lots of travel around the country), I will only be
discussing the best choices for each scenario, and not what happens with the
alternate choices you can make.  I will however be updating this every week
with the new content, including the "previews."  All right, let's get going!

2. General Tips
==================

Here are a couple of tips that apply to pretty much all scenarios.

- Try to please everybody when you can.  In other words, try to get the
happy sound instead of sad sound for all characters you interact with.
This will lead to better outcomes.  This isn't always possible, of course,
but no reaction is better than a bad reaction.

- Always win the mini-games.

- This only applies to one scenario so far, but when building up stats,
try to maintain a balance amongst all of your stats.  In other words, don't
exclusively focus on one stat at the expense of others.  This will lead to
success in all interactions.

- Occasionally, luck will rear its ugly head, especially in the main story.
You just won't get an easy board to find strings of letters on, or the
football games will be impossible to win.  All I can say is, tough luck.
Try again.  Believe me, I have. :)

MEGAPACKS

1. Football Season
==============================

All right, the first mega-pack, and the main story for now.  Here, you get to
choose your character and go through eight weeks of high school.  I am making
the following assumptions here in terms of what the optimal path is:

1. You're a jock (it is called "Football Season") so being a bookworm with a
4.0 GPA doesn't make a lot of sense.

2. You would be going for the sweet cheerleader (Beth).

There is one major tip to cover here, and it makes the scenario much easier to
handle.  You only need to maintain a 3.0 GPA to get an end-game reward and
please your parents.  Based on the way the in-game grading system works, the
only time you need to "study" is on Mondays, when you have your weekly quiz.
Get all 3 answers right each week, and you have an automatic 3.0 GPA the whole
time.  Ace your finals, and you're good to go.  This frees up an enormous
amount of time to increase your other stats.  Also, you have enough leeway to
miss a couple of questions and still make it.

2. The New Girl
================

This is a great megapack, and one that provides not only a lot of different
choices, but a lot of interesting strategy as well.  The path outlined below
is only one way to get a perfect game with this megapack.  In order to get a
perfect score, you need to accomplish two main things: you need to win the
majority of votes from the cheerleaders, and you need to get Howard to love
you (in other words, the smiley faces next to his face need to turn to
hearts).  There are some general rules that will lead to success:

1. Go out with Howard every night until you get the hearts next to him.
2. Go to the gym at least twice.
3. Don't go out with Keith except for the first night.
4. It's not necessary to go out with Taylor.

Follow those rules,and you should be successful.  All right, here's one path
through this megapack.  Follow these steps, and you will get a perfect score.
Note the following in this path: I went to the gym four times and learned the
ultimate move.  Not necessary, but completely doable.  Also, despite my 
fourth rule above, I do go out with Taylor at the very end.  The final call
at night is completely up to you; you've already won enough votes by that
point.  I chose Taylor just because I hadn't hung out with her yet, but I
could have chosen anyone and gotten a perfect score, so my fourth rule still
stands.

Firstly, congrats on a great job with your Surviving High School FAQ.  
It's very helpful and a great read.  

Anyway, I thought I'd throw in a contribution in case you feel like making 
a note of it somewhere.  I just got around to playing "The New Girl" over 
the past couple of days and it turns out there's actually a way to get 
an almost perfect score with only a few small modifications to your 
walkthrough for that episode, where by "perfect score" I mean getting 
the maximum number of votes from the other cheerleaders and still 
getting together with Howard (well, almost ;) ). The key is that 
you actually can go out with Keith a second time without 
it affecting your relationship with Howard or anybody else.  
As I think you already noted in your FAQ, you end up 
with an "extra" night out in the game, so applying this to 
Keith actually gets you his vote, for a final tally of 7-2 in your 
favor. Jessica and Maria, being Sam's best buddies will pretty much 
never vote for anybody but Sam and you don't get to spend any time 
with them anyway to convince them otherwise.  

Anyway, the second night out with Keith allows you to get the fourth 
smiley face (the others come from the first night out with him and 
your conversation with him in English class as already noted in your 
FAQ). The second night out involves taking in a movie with him, and at 
one point he starts crying, the correct response is "Let him cry." 
("What do I do? ---> Let him cry").  He'll be happy you didn't make 
fun of him and tell you about his girlfriend in Canada, and you'll 
get an extra smiley face, leading him to vote for you in the finals.  

My first path was very similar to yours, just in a slightly different 
order, and I didn't call up Rachel a second time so I didn't get 
her vote either, but still had enough to win the votes at 5 vs 4. 
It wasn't until a couple more times through that I realized where 
the Keith path was otherwise going (I decided to play one round 
avoiding Howard and spending time with everybody else as much as I
 could, including Keith).

Anyway, just thought I'd pass that on.  Keep up the great work.

3. Homecoming Queen

All right, another Megapack!  This one is a lot simpler and shorter than the
first Megapack, but is definitely longer and more involved than a normal
episode.  The objective of this one is to become Homecoming Queen, which means
you need to bring a boy to the dance, win more votes than your rival, Paula,
and outdance her in a dance competition.  I'm sure there are many ways to pull
this off, including ways that get you a higher voting percentage than what I
have here.  So, if you try out new paths and interactions, e-mail them to me
and I'll add them to the guide.  For example, I haven't tried dating Kenji.
Also, I have a feeling you don't need to be leveled up all the way to beat
Paula as far as dancing goes, but I could be wrong.  Anyhow, enjoy!

What a bizarre episode.  The storyline is absolutely crazy and out of
left field, but the actual episode is pretty great, with lots of
variety and even the return of the football game!  In keeping with the
idea that you'd be dating the cheerleader if you're a football jock,
I chose that you have been dating Beth.  Also, this isn't a
perfect score/bonus scene kind of episode as far as I can tell; if there
is a bonus scene here, please let me know and I'll update.

Just wanted to add some of the other possibilities to the 
Football: Halloween walkthrough depending on dating different girls.

If you're dating Beth, then you must tell her she looks hot, and she 
and Denni will be the vampires' captives on the football field at the end.

If you're dating Lisa, then you must tell her she looks terrifying, and she 
and Denni will be the vampires' captives on the football field at the end.

If you're dating Raven, then she won't ask you how she looks, and only 
Denni will be the vampires' captive on the football field at the end. 
This is the same if you aren't dating anyone.

actually playing it; it's very repetitive.  Still, the story is

Jesse David Hollington for pointing out that many of the choices actually
don't matter in order to get a perfect game, including who your girlfriend

version of SHS didn't have this up last week, so I downloaded the free

is not the only way to go about this scenario, but it will definitely get
you the best outcome.  Step 2 below is actually very important to this
path, however, as whichever group you choose to talk to will like you
more from the start, meaning you only have to deal with them twice as
opposed to three times in the five day period leading up to the party.  I

All right, something I've been wanting to see for a long time; an SHS/COD
crossover!  This is a lengthy and really fun episode, and features the
return of a ton of SHS characters from the early days of the game.  
Hopefully, the fact that it crosses over with Cause of Death will help 
improve interest in COD, as it's really a great game!  In any case, some
notes for this episode.  First, there are a number of steps in this
episode that don't give the correct choice sound but where the other choice
gives you the wrong sound, so don't worry if you don't hear the correct
choice sound all the time in this episode; everything is fine. Second, for
Step 8, just let the timer run out without selecting the only option.  Last,
for Step 12, you have to choose Dodge quickly 4 times in a row, so I figured
it would be easier to just combine all of those into one step.  As usual,
follow the steps below for a perfect score.

This scenario seemingly has a lot of different choices, but there's one
optimal path that lets you experience everything, and have way more money than
you need in the end.  So, let's do it...

1. Start by doing the academic challenge for the first three days.  Here are
the answers I encountered playing through the scenario a couple of times.

Who was the third president of the United States? -----> Thomas Jefferson.
What comes next in this sequence: Kingdom, Phylum, Class...? -----> Order.
Who wrote the Grapes of Wrath? -----> John Steinbeck.

Which of these is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World? --->The Great

Who is the narrator of The Great Gatsby? ---> Nick Carraway.

2. After that, do the Help Ads. Just look for the answer to the one you're
doing below.

Win the martial arts minigame.

After all that, watch the good ending!

After replaying the episode a couple of times, an alternate way to do this
that actually gets you the most guaranteed money, $300, is to do the academic
challenge, then do the bakery for all five days, then do two help ads; one
will likely be $25 and $35.  Completely up to you, but that's another just as
good path as the one outlined above.  I like the other one more because of the
help ads storylines, but again, this way actually gets you more money.

Another scenario with a perfect score/bonus scene opportunity.  Here's the

score.

exact text for the arcade minigames; the position of which one to pick should
suffice.

wrap up to the story, and a very satisfying episode overall.

10. The Wrong Side of Town
===========================

Now here's a dramatic change of pace.  I am actually NOT going to do steps
for this scenario, believe it or not, as there's no point.  This is more of
an adventure scenario, where you have to advance forward and win battles and
have strange encounters.  I played through the scenario twice, and actually
didn't run into an encounter the second time through that I did the first
time.  So there may be even more scenarios I'm unaware of; feel free to
submit them to me.  Also, the reason there are no steps is because the
encounters happen in slightly different orders.

Anyhow, the point of this is to get back home through dangerous territory.
You'll get a bonus scene by making it back to your side before the deadline,
answering certain conversation choices correctly, and beat the final bosses.
In order to do this, you need to basically always walk a mile and win battles.
You will likely at some point have to rest once to regain your health; I did
when I got the bonus scene.  One thing I can confirm that you never need to
do is challenge a bully.  So again, every time you're pretty healthy (as in
more than 2 or 3 life points), walk a mile and try to win a battle.  When you
get conversation choices, follow the guide below.


Are you going to let me give you some free advice or not? ---> Teach me!

What do you say we just go our separate ways? ---> Let him go.

Don't you find me a teensy bit cute? ---> I've seen snot that was cuter
than you!

Which of the following would be most useful? ---> (Choose whatever you

Loving your guide! Just thought I'd submit a few things I found out during
the Wrong Side of Time. By far the hardest one of the bunch, took me like 10
times to actually get it done. And I found that by challenging a bully (which
Skazz was one of) you get the ability to heal which was very useful in the
final fight. There seems to be 3 bully fights, with the 2nd giving you the
ability to have a sucker punch (which basically guarantees a hit that takes
away a lot of health points). Not sure about the third one though.

Regarding the message on your walkthrough for 'The Wrong Side of Town' about
challenging bullies, the person who sent you the email said that they didn't
know what happened after you defeated the third and final bully.
I found out that you get a special move called 'Half and Half' which takes
away half of your opponent's life! It is a fantastic move, and very useful in
the last few battles!

I'm not sure if you've already received an email saying this, but I thought
I'd give it a shot :)

SHS, the writers mentioned that there are bonus scenes if you defeat Travis
and Mr. Doom.  Both are extremely difficult to defeat, especially Mr. Doom,
and will likely take a lot of time and luck (especially with Mr. Doom).  If
anyone actually defeats either one, serious congrats are in order!

Hi! I came across your guide on GameFAQs.
Just wanted to let you know that I have managed to defeat both Travis and 
Mr Doom in The Wrong Side of Town.

I won't say what actually happens after you beat Travis, but it's a dream 
sequence and it takes place in the Skate Park (go see it for yourself!, or if
you're really unable to beat Travis just ask me and I'll send u the 
screenshots)

For Mr Doom, after you beat him, he goes down briefly, but wakes up with 
9999health (meaning u stand no chance of beating him twice)

To defeat Travis, you have to score 3 critical hits (one critical hit is 14 
damage), and get Travis to miss 4 times. When I beat him, I had 3health left.

To defeat Mr Doom, use Half and Half, followed by Power Punch and regular 
attacking. One critical hit is 68 damage, and a normal attack ranges from 
15-50 damage. You have to get Mr Doom to miss at least 12 times for you to 
succeed. There is no known way to defeat him the second time (after he 
revives).

There is no particular strategy for both battles, it's based on luck and 
perseverance. The 'escape' button is also of no use. Keep trying!

Quite a crazy ending to this story, and the resolution of a huge number of
series-long plot points as well.  There's a lot of variety here, but it does
seem to drag a bit to me, especially when the diss battles happen.  Still,
a very long episode, and extremely satisfying on many levels.  Note that at
#13, the sound to say you've made the correct choice won't sound, but "Weigh
in" is the correct choice.  Also, at #14, feel free to do anything you want
for the three battles at the end; you're pretty much invincible.  As usual,
follow the steps below for a perfect score.

Here is an awesome contribution from DrVaughn that reveals several secret
endings to this episode based on your choices.  Enjoy!

The recent prom night episode has a fairly silly but definitely worth it 
dueling psychics ending. To get it, you need to get choices 1, 2, 7, 8, and 9
wrong, counting the minigame as a choice and the tuxedo questions as all one 
choice.  There may be other routes but you have to mess up enough to not get 
the good end, but not enough that the game ends before prom.

Learned this from the SHS facebook group and tested it myself.

Also, if you botch all the guys answers, the ending there is silly enough to
be worth the time. Not as elaborate as the psychic fight end though.

A climactic and shockingly easy episode (there aren't even any real
mini-games in this one).  A couple of things to note.  For one thing, there
is some terrible spelling, as well as some awful grammatical errors,
throughout this one; not sure what happened to the copy-editing at EA.  Also,
for the Biology quizzing, on my second playthrough, I noticed there were two
new questions from the first time I played through!  I took them down, but I
don't have time to go through the episode many times to find them all.  If
you find any questions that are different than the ones I list here, please
e-mail them to me and I'll include them in the next update.

this one that I just stumbled across.  When you're entering Linda's password,
type in "Howiebear" which is correct.  The episode will then end there due to

nearly as hard as it is to get the needed fifty dollars back, and it
takes forever to get to the game every time you need to replay.
I have now FINALLY beaten the poker game, and can vouch for Jesse's
strategy below.  Also, steps 11 and 12 don't matter; choose whatever 
you'd like.  As usual, follow the steps below for a perfect score.

worked for me:
 
Hey Michael,
I too was frustrated by the poker game and was trying to figure out a 
"system" similar to what Michelle added in your FAQ, but I think
there might be another trick to it as well...   I was 
getting so bored with replaying the episode to get to the
poker game that after six or seven times through I decided to play
 all the wrong choices to see what would happen.  When I got to 
the poker game I just bet recklessly at every chance... Never fold, 
always raise if possible, don't call until you have to.  

Amazingly, I beat the poker game in about four hands by doing this 
-- annoying because I was otherwise playing a completely 
IMperfect game :)  However, I went through it again and 
followed the same strategy and beat the poker game even more
quickly the second time through (about three hands).  I even
played through one more time to see if it was just a fluke, and 
beat the poker game yet again (although it took about seven hands). 
Of course, it still could be a fluke, but after failing at the
poker game consistently six or seven times, winning three in a 
row seems too much of a coincidence.

correct thing to do is to not select anything and just let the timer run
out, hence why I've written "Don't make a choice."

I have to be honest, while this plot line is finally being developed,
and it looks like it's going in a good direction, the design of this
episode is super annoying.  Except for the first three steps, you pretty
much HAVE to make the choices listed here or you'll fail the whole
episode and be forced to start from the beginning.  At least in Cause
of Death, the other game like this, if there's a situation where you can fail,
it starts you over from a checkpoint, not the entire episode.  Anyhow,
I'm ranting mainly to point out that you need to make sure to follow this
walkthrough closely if you don't want to replay the entire episode three or
four times because you made one wrong choice.  And of course, you'll get a
perfect score.
