 > The slots in the illustration on page 18 are Max's.
   >> Max keeps his camera in the first one which has a dashed circle
around it indicating that it is the active item.
+ Max is the only person who can use the camera.
+ If Max is riding the Ridepod, he must get down to use the
        camera.
   >> To use the active item, press the [Square] Button.
   >> To change to another slot, press the [Left] or [Right] direction
      button.

 > Items that can be placed in an Active Item Slot:
   >> An antidote amulet:
+ It is automatically active without having to use the [Square]
        Button.
+ Having an Antidote Amulet in the Active Item Slot Prevents
Max (or Monica) from being poisoned until the amulet is used up.
   >> Other amulets can be used as needed. For example:
+ Certain creatures spit goo (slows you down).
+ The Anti-Goo amulet prevents the attack from being effective.
+ But if the creature is spitting a Curse, the Anti-Goo amulet
        is not helpful.
   >> Recovery items, such as bread, if placed in a slot:
+ Can be used to heal without having to search through your
        Item Menu.
+ To use this type of item:
        - The dashed circle *must* be on the right Active Item slot,
           and
+ The [Square] Button must be pressed to use one of the items.
   >> Items such as bombs or poison apples, when placed in one of
      slots:
+ Can be thrown at an enemy to cause damage.
+ For a thrown item to be effective:
        - You must lock on to the monster.
        - The slot must be highlighted.
        - Pressing the [Square] Button will automatically throw the
          item at the creature.
        - The amount of damage varies.
+ Flying creatures such as the Bat:
        - Are usually not damaged by an ordinary Bomb.
        - May not be damaged by an Improved Bomb.
        - Lightspeed (a move advanced bomb) will usually Work.
        - The Final Bomb is even better.)

 > The best source of your items are in the dungeon treasure chests.

   >> But items can be purchased from Donny at first, later from shops
or from support people on the train.
+ Some of these people will make you recovery items if you add

 > Items can be moved from one slot in the Item Menu to another.

 > Suppose you want to move items for easier access:
   >> To move an item from one slot to another location:
+ Point the arrow at the item and press the [Square] Button.
        - This 'lifts' the whole set of items in that slot.
+ Move the arrow to the desired slot and press the [Square]
        Button again.
        - This puts the carried items down in that slot.
+ If the slot is not empty, the moving item(s) is dropped
and the item(s) in that slot is picked up.
+ Eventually an empty slot must be used to store the moving item.

 > Suppose you want to move only some of the items in a particular slot.
   >> For example, you may want to put some anti-poison amulets in
*both* Max's and Monica's active item slots.
   >> Use the following method to 'split' some of the items out instead
      of moving all at once.
+ Place the arrow so it points at the desired item.
+ Press the [Triangle] Button to display the number of items
        available in that slot.
+ Use the [Down] Button (direction pad NOT the analog stick) to
reduce that number to the desired amount.
+ For example, suppose you want to put 3 of 10 Antidote amulets
in one of Max's Active Item slots.
        - Press the [Triangle] Button (it displays 10).
        - Press the [Down] Button several times until the number three
          shows.
        - Press the [Square] Button which lifts the three amulets.
        - Transfer them to the Active Item slot by pressing the [Left]
Button until and Active Item Slot is highlighted.

There are a number of items, that, if carried in Active Item slots,
may be thrown at the monsters.

 > They cause varying amounts of damage. You will have to decide which
   ones to use.
   >> Note: there are some dungeon floors where you are required to use
only items to destroy the monsters in order to obtain a medal.
   >> You may want to wait until you have either Lightspeed or Final
      Bombs before you try.

 > Most throwable items are found in dungeons or can be purchased.

 > Erik makes Improved Bombs when in your party.
   >> He is limited by the number of skill points (64) to making two
sets of these bombs for a total of 4 before he needs to rest.
   >> The improved bombs are particularly useful at the beginning of
Chapter 2 because the bombs can be sold for 150 gilda each, at
a time when you have not yet been able to build up a surplus
      of gilda.

 > The throwable items are listed with their effect against monsters.
   >> Note: Those causing elemental damage (such as fire or cyclone)
are more effective against monsters that are weak against that
      element.
   >> The damage varies with the item; not all are very effective.

for the invention can't be taken until
                               later in the game.

 > Order the items in your bag to make it easier to use them. Nothing is
worse than being unable to find a particular item you need in a hurry!

 > When you select 'Item' from the Main Menu, only five rows of items is
   visible at a time.

 > You should find an item display you like.
   >> When in the Item Bag, pressing the [Select] Button will put the
items into several different built-in orders.
   >> Review these and see if any work for you.

 > I find the following order works for me.
   >> I like to have the most frequently used items in the five visible
rows at the top of the bag:

 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
 Row 1
 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Column 1: Leave the first slot empty
+ When you pick up a dungeon gate key it fills that slot
and is easy to access when you are ready to leave the
              dungeon.
+ Early in the game, you may have to move items from
here when you pick up those not already in your bag.
Column 2: Put the bread here so that it is handy when you urgently
            need to restore your health.
+ When you are low on HP, the bread and other health
              restoration items will flash.
Column 3: Put the bottles of Antidote here.
+ When you are poisoned, the bottle will flash.
Column 4: Put the yellow Repair Powder here.
Column 5: Put the green Gun Repair Powder here.
Column 6: Put the orange Armband Repair Powder here.
+ You start collecting them in Chapter 2.

 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
 Row 2
 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Column 1: Leave this empty for the key to any locked room on the
            floor.
Column 2 through 4: Roasted Chesnut; Premium Chicken; Cheese.
All are food items that restore more health than bread
            + Found after Chapter 1.
Column 5 through 6: Holy water (to remove a curse) and soap (to
            remove goo)
+ Needed in Chapter 2 particularly.

 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
 Row 3
 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Column 1 through 5: Left empty to store weapons that I plan to
            sell.
+ When you pick up items you don't already have, from
chests, etc., they will be placed in these empty slots.
+ After leaving the dungeon, take a moment to sort these.
  Column 6: Crusty bread.
+ Restores more health that ordinary bread,
+ You only get them once (total of 20).
+ If you're short of space in your bag, use these up.

 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
 Row 4
 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

 > I keep this row for Crystals used to build up weapons.

NOTE: + I prefer to read down the weapon status attribute
           columns rather than across).
+ But I also prefer to have the crystals for that column
           across Row 4.

   (Col 1) Power ........... +2 Attack
   (Col 2) Flame ........... +3 Fire
   (Col 3) Lightning ....... +3 Lightning
   (Col 4) Destruction ..... +3 Smash
   (Col 5) Hunter .......... +3 Beast
   (Col 6) Protector ....... +2 Durable

 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
 Row 5
 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

 > The lowest row visible when you select 'Item'.

 > The rest of the crystals in this order:

   (Col 1) Chill ........... +3 Ice
   (Col 2) Wind ............ +3 Cyclone
   (Col 3) Holy ............ +3 Exorcism
   (Col 4) Sea Dragon ...... +3 Scale

 > The rest is up to you.
   >> I do sort items that are of the same kind into a block.
+ For example there are ten different coins.
+ I put them into three rows; 3 in the first row, 4 in the
        second, 3 in the third.
   >> I keep Max's weapons separate from Monica's:
+ I put Max's in one vertical block using two columns.
        - First column I put the wrenches and hammers.
        - Second column I put guns.
+ Since Monica usually has a lot of swords, I put her weapons
        in three columns.
        - If I uses Cols 1 and 2 for Max, I use Cols 3, 4, and 5 for
          Monica.
        - Column 3 I put her Armbands.
        - Column 4 and 5 I put swords.
+ I generally don't use more than three rows or four (maximum).

NOTE: More information on using these items in upgrading the
         weapons is in:
+ The Dark Cloud 2 FAQ called 'WEAPON BASICS'.
