Author: Digital Scyther Game Title: Grand Theft Auto Vice City Game Platform: Playstation 2 FAQ Title: Grand Theft Auto Vice City Manual Welcome to Vice City. Welcome to the 1980s. Having just made it back onto the streets of Liberty City after a long stretch in maximum security, Tommy Vercetti is sent to Vice City by his old boss, Sonny Forelli. They were understandably nervous about his re-appearance in Liberty City, so a trip down south seemed like a good idea. But all does not go smoothly upon his arrival in the glamorous, hedonistic metropolis of Vice City. He's set up and is left with no money and no merchandise. Sonny wants his money back, but the biker gangs, Cuban gangsters, and corrupt politicians stand in his way. Most of Vice City seems to want Tommy dead. His only answer is to fight back and take over the city himself. From the decade of big hair, excess and pastel suits comes a story of one man's rise to the top of the criminal pile as Grand Theft Auto returns to the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system this October. Vice City is a huge urban sprawl ranging from the beach to the swamps and the glitz to the ghetto, and is the most varied, complete and alive digital city ever created. Combining non-linear gameplay with a character driven narrative, you arrive in a town brimming with delights and degradation and are given the opportunity to take it over as you choose. As a major gateway to South America and the Caribbean and attracting migrants, Vice City is brimming with diverse characters, so there's a friend for everyone. It is a sociable place and the new guy in town is sure to meet all manner of friendly people in the sunshine capital of America. Athletes, pop stars, real estate developers, politicians, trailer trash, everyone is moving to Vice City to find out what makes it the number one growth city in America. But, as Tommy quickly finds out, trust is still the rarest of commodities. Vice City offers vehicular pleasures to suit every taste. For the speed enthusiast, there's high-performance cars and motorbikes. For the sportsman, a powerboat or a golf buggy lets you enjoy the great outdoors. For those that need that sense of freedom and escape, why not charter a helicopter and see the beauty of Vice City from the air? As the party capital of America, you would expect your ears to be seduced by a host of sultry melodies and pumping beats, but the city is truly rocking. You'll be AMAZED as you sweep through Vice City's FM dial. If you are feeling like trouble, you can tune into some driving rock, or some crucial electro, or maybe you want to slow down with some sweet soul, and there will always be some great romantic anthems if you want to really take your mind off things. For the action man, or outdoors type, there's tons of fun things to do and adventures to be had guaranteed. For the secretive or creepy type, Vice City is full of surprises, a place where you'll constantly be surprised by the vivacious, fun-loving types who live there and the things you can discover. BEST VIDEOGAME OF 2002. BEST PS2 GAME OF THE YEAR (Editor's Choice and Reader's Choice). " more mini-games, a greater, more in-depth story featuring a perfectly voice acted character an invigorating, impressively selected soundtrack Perhaps the addition of motorcycles is the icing on the cake, or maybe it was the way players can buy property, investing themselves in further in the story. However, you look at it, it's the most impressive game on PS2 in 2002." * GameSpot.com, December 26, 2002. GAME OF THE YEAR ON PLAYSTATION 2. February 3 - Vice City Soundtrack Reviews And Greatest Hits Disc Turns out the critics seem to have enjoyed the Vice City Official Soundtracks CDs practically as much as the game itself. Read on for some selections of praise. New Musical Express, December 7 2002. Review score: 10/10. "If this amazing music from the first half of the 80's is a foreign country to you, or a country you visited but can't really remember, then, dude, this totally awesome box set is your one-way ticket to paradise." Rolling Stone, December 12 2002. "Extravagant enough to reflect the excesses of the 1980s Each volume (also sold separately) comes with DJ patter, commercials and parody music that totally evoke the decadent decade in which the game is set." Entertainment Weekly, November 22 2002. Review score: A. " this collection of music has more hits than a Mob boss. V-Rock thrashes out with Iron Maiden's '2 Minutes to Midnight.' Legendary radio pirate Mr. Magic drops scratchtastic tunes from Kurtis Blow and Whodini. And Radio Espantoso manages to mambo mucho with Mongo Santamaria and Tito Puente. Also, every disc includes a Vice City cheat code -- which makes this life of Vice sound pretty darn good" PSM, January 2003. BEST SOUNDTRACK 2002. "Vice City's soundtrack must have been a daunting effort to assemble. The work was worth it, though - it fit the game's setting perfectly, and surprisingly featured a lot of hits from the period that other game makers might not have found cliché enough." Game Informer, January 2003. BEST VIDEO GAME SOUNDTRACK OF 2002. "This soundtrack not only serves to immerse you into the eighties, but more importantly to bring video games some credibility as an entertainment medium equal to that of TV and motion pictures." Gamespy.com, December 26, 2002. BEST MUSIC 2002. "Rockstar Games continues to push the bounds of what a game can be with Grand Theft Auto. The game's soundtrack similarly raises the bar for video game soundtracks." IGN.com, December 20 2002. " the quintessential seven CD soundtrack has burned a comet-like trail into the gaming consciousness The result, a cross-media blockbuster box set is a wide-ranging swath of musical one-hit wonders and real gems from the 1980s that hits on all cylinders."
