A: A rank achieved that is greater than an A rank. Q: What do I get for obtaining S Ranks on missions? A: If you earn an overall/average S rank for all normal and hard missions combined, you will unlock an achievement: Mission Rank S (20) Awarded for achieving Total Mission Rank S. If you achieve an S rank on all 74 missions, 37 normal and 37 hard, you will get another achievement: Mission Rank SS (30) Awarded for achieving Total Mission Rank SS. Q: Is there anyway to see my current overall rank? A: Yes. When you save your game. It is in the save game description. Q: Is there anyway to see my current mission rank? A: Yes. When you complete normal mode, a mission select screen will show up as you cycle through chapters. It is after chapter 6. You can toggle between normal and hard mode and see your rank for each. Only here can you see what your current mission rank is. Q: What do I get for beating a mission with an S rank? A: For normal, beating certain missions will unlock schematics. When you S rank a mission on hard, you are awarded 1 point of FRS memory...yay! This allows for 37 additional points of FRS memory in the Xbox 360 version. Q: Do I have to obtain an S rank on normal before I can do it on hard? A: No. You can S rank a mission on normal whenever you want. You can only S rank a mission on hard once you have completed the normal difficulty for that mission. Also, it does not matter which difficulty you S rank first. The mission timer does not stop when you complete your objective, it stops when the screen totally fades to black. Using ammunition (weapons that do not use energy) will cost you credits and could affect your rank. After each mission, you will get an AP bonus. The lower your AP is from the start of the mission, the greater your bonus. For example, if you start a mission with a mech in the 40,000+ AP range, your bonus will be 3/AP. If you start the mission with a mech with an AP of under 25,000, you will earn a bonus of 7/AP. The bigger the bonus, the better your chance of earning an S-rank. =============================================================================== Section 2 Mechs I am going to list some mechs I used to obtain my S ranks. If you can tweak them more to your liking so they are easier to use, so much the better. These mechs were built under the impression that you already have 300 units of FRSM. I named and constructed these mechs without help from anyone. I will be using many variations of one type of mech. A Dark Night's March Yoda w Nades Normal - numerous ground targets, some aerial targets, and a mobile fortress Take out the closest set of enemies with the lasers, then switch to ogoto. Hold the left thumbstick in to use manual targeting and blanket the next set of enemies and the mobile fortress in grenades. Hard - numerous ground targets, some aerial targets, and 2 mobile fortresses Take out the closest set of enemies with the lasers, then switch to ogoto. Hold the left thumbstick in to use manual targeting. Try not to push up too far, hang around the left side of the perimeter, and take out the next wave. Stay where you are and try to hit the 2 mobile fortresses from as far away as possible with the grenades. There are 4 aerial targets as well but they should be currently grounded and you can use their lights as a target for your grenades. Aerial Interdiction Yoda Normal - 8 transport choppers, train Once you leave the bridge, you should not have to land until all choppers are destroyed. Take out the choppers with your blades, keep dodging the aerial normals, then land and destroy the train when it comes into the area. Hard - 8 transport choppers, air fortress, train Once you leave the bridge, you should not have to land until all choppers are destroyed. Take out the choppers with your blades, keep dodging the aerial normals. You should try to take out the air fortress ASAP. Mop up the rest of the choppers, then head for the train when it comes into the area. Bald-Dora Yoda w Nades (you might want to just remove all arm weapons for this mission) Normal - 6 normals Hard - 6 normals Just boost through the whole canyon to get to the end. Engaging anything other than the primary targets is pointless and has no effect on rank. Dodge all incoming fire and be sure to adjust for the AI leading their shots. Barbe-Bleue Yoda ER Normal - numerous ground targets Boost all over the tunnels and just mow down targets. Hard - numerous ground targets Do not stop boosting at all and pay attention to the minimap to see where the enemies appear. Bitter Obligation Yoda w Nades Normal - 12 support struts There are aerial normals, boats firing missiles, and turrets harassing you. I would suggest taking out the boats first, then the turrets. You should be able to knock out all the struts with those things eliminated, if not, take out the remaining aerial normals. Dangerous Waters Yoda ER Normal - 4 normals Hard - 5 normals Just walk forward and drop down but don't land in the water, stay airborne. Desert Wolf Yoda Sirus / Yoda w Nades Normal - 1 NEXT Boost to the other end of the map as fast as humanly possibly. Your goal is to eliminate the NEXT before he even activates. Shower him with as many sirius shots as possible. Hard - 2 NEXTs, one after another I would prefer ogoto for this mission. Boost over to the other side of the map and try to send as many grenades over to the first NEXT as you can. Eliminate him and the second NEXT will appear. Cover him in ogoto as well. Elimination Yoda ER Normal - numerous ground targets Just laser everyone down and try not to get hit. Hard - numerous ground targets, normals with BIGSOUX equipped Strategy by Ra-Devil Build and AC, if it can move, your fine. -Put 2 Laser Rifles on them, the ER 0200. -Put 2 AS Missile back weapons on them, LAMIA. As soon as the mission starts, start shooting your Laser Rifles, kill the one in the middle with 3 or 4 shots, takes maybe a second, strafe left or right and kill the next one, then strafe the other way and kill the third one. Here's the beautiful part, you don't have to do anything anymore. Just stand a bit away from the doors in the room, first one then the other later on, and just shoot the AS Missiles into the room. The don't require any lock-on, they automatically trace to enemy signatures, even missiles, and do massive damage. Firefly Yoda Normal - 1 air fortress Using yoda, just boost straight ahead to the fortress and slash it. First Strike Yoda ER Normal - 3 normals Just boost forward and laser the 3 normals. Should take maybe 30 seconds. Hard - 6 normals Boost forward, then go left. Try to take them one at a time and try not to get hit. Futile Resistance Yoda ER / Yoda w Nades Normal - 7 ground targets Laser them all down, don't get hit too much. Hard - numerous ground targets Ogoto canon works better for hard mode, it mops up the clusters of enemies quickly. Hail of Bullets Yoda w Nades Normal - ground turrets and normals Boost past the choppers and drop ogoto rounds all over everything. Hard - numerous ground targets, 2 subs, 2 boats Boost past the choppers and begin to drop ogoto rounds all over everything. After the first runway is clear, head to the right and take out the two subs. Then proceed to take out the two ships in the distance. Icebreaker Defense Yoda w Nades Normal - 8 ships Destroy each ship as fast as you can. S rank depends on how fast you are. I think under 180s will get you an S. ship damage has no effect on rank. Internal Purge Yoda Normal - 3 inactive mobile fortresses Boost to each IMF and slash them to death, DON'T TAKE TOO MUCH DAMAGE. Hard - 3 inactive mobile fortresses, then 1 NEXT Boost to each IMF and slash them to death, DON'T TAKE TOO MUCH DAMAGE. Jardin De Chavalier Yoda / Yoda w Nades Normal - 1 NEXT Hard - 1 NEXT You just, blast the hell out of her and DON'T GET HIT. She will come at you with a blade, so keep your distance. Strategy by Ba1r0g Using Yoda, swap out the Moonlights for RAJMs. While your waiting for Anjou to break through the door, find a nice corner to sit in and wait for her to come into the room. Juggernaut Yoda w Nades Normal - 1...thing Hard - 1...mean thing Just unload on this thing and boost backwards if necessary. Line of Defense Yoda ER / Yoda Sirus Normal - numerous ground targets, then a 4 aerial targets Use Yoda ER to mow all the targets down. Hard - numerous ground targets, then NEXT with some aerial targets Boost to the bridge and take out the 2 MLRS trucks. Drop back down and take out all ground forces. The NEXT will appear and he is tough. Make your shots count. Hit him with all the sirius canon you have, DO NOT MISS HIM. Once he is done, mope up the remaining aerial enemies. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO KILL THE AIR FORTRESS. Marche Au Supplice Yoda Sirus / Yoda w Nades Normal - 4 NEXTs, you have a partner helping you This is the easy one. Just melt each NEXT as fast as you can. Hard - 4 NEXTs, partner? hah, who needs one? This is the most fight ever. Try to start the fight by killing the first mech as fast as humanly possible with the sirius. The carnage that ensues next is your choice. You can either stick it to them and stay in the fight or you can be evasive and take them one by one. Keep running and choose your shots wisely. Might Makes Right Yoda ER / Yoda w Nades Normal - 6 normals Go forward and up the first tube. Go straight up then halfway up turn around 180 degrees and go into the tunnel. When you come out, drop straight down and go right into the tunnel in front of you. Don't stop shooting as the enemy on the far end of the tunnel is firing BIGSOUX missiles. When you get to the end of that tunnel, drop straight down again and go forward, the last five targets are scattered around. Hard - 9 normals Go forward and up the first tube, the first normal is in front of you. Go straight up then halfway up turn around 180 degrees and go into the tunnel. when you come out, drop straight down and go right into the tunnel in front of you. The second normal is blocking your path, don't stop shooting as the enemy on the far end of the tunnel is firing BIGSOUX missiles. When you get to the end of that tunnel, drop straight down again and go forward, the last seven normals are scattered around. http://youtube.com/watch?v=J5KVoF5q1P0 =============================================================================== 23. Operation Ascend Yoda Normal - 4 turbines Boost forward and fly up the cylinder, slash the turbines, land on the top. You should not even have to land while inside the cylinder. Hard - 4 turbines, 3 air fortresses Boost forward and fly up the cylinder, slash the turbines. When you reach the top, circle your camera and find the closest fortress. When you do, go slash it to death and get back into the cylinder. Repeat this process once more. Operation Descent Yoda w Nades Normal - 3 normals Hard - 5 normals Fall down, dodge the lasers, blow up the normals. Pillar of Light Yoda w Nades or Yoda Normal - Ehrenberg Canon Hard - Ehrenberg Canon Boost like no other towards the canon dodging all incoming fire along the way. When you reach the canon, you have 2 options, flying around firing the ogoto into the middle or destroying all of the 4 adjacent gun turrets around the canon so that you can stand in front of it and shoot it close up without taking massive damage. The center is tricky, you have to find the sweet spot to hit it. It is roughly one jump from the base. Stand at the base of the canon, jump once, and slash. The Yoda approach is rather simple. Boost to the Ehrenberg and slash it. Two slashes TOPS. You need to stand at the base of the canon, jump once, and dual slash. Strategy by Ba1r0g Using Yoda with RAJMs instead of Moonlights, start off by boosting to the shield generator. Hit it once and its down. Head towards the main target. When you get there, fly on top of the "scaffolding" like structure and go right up to the middle on one of the sides and fire. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwyNgF7pUJ8 =============================================================================== 26. Retaliation Yoda w Nades Normal - numerous ground targets Bathe the whole area in grenades and don't get shot. Hard - numerous ground targets, 2 mobile fortresses Bathe the whole area in grenades and don't get shot. Sea of Blood Yoda w Nades / Yoda Sirus Normal - 1 NEXT you choice of lasers or grenades. douse the NEXT with your choice. Hard - 1 NEXT, then another NEXT This one can be tricky. I lucked out and got the first NEXT stuck in the middle. Start by flying towards the complex to avoid fire from the normals on the water. Try and take them out from the top if necessary. treat this NEXT just like every other, hammer it with super weapons while dodge its fire. When the second NEXT appears, keep your distance, he is very fast and very agile. Silent Avalanche Yoda w Nades Normal - 12 snipers just mow them down with volleys from the ogoto Hard - 12 snipers, then 2 NEXTs Take out the snipers the same way, try not to lose any AP. Helix I and Helix II. Fun...not really, Helix 2 usually comes at you first douse her with the ogoto, then finish her up with the 0200s. For Helix I, drop the remaining 0200s on her and don't miss, it should be enough to kill her. Strategy by VakuA Alternatively for Silent Avalance, I might suggest dual 0200's on the arms, with the grenade cannons. Take the snipers out with the cannons and use the 0200's on the ACs, as the grenade doesn't PA pierce as well, and takes a bit more amount of planned aiming to effectively use. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vGE1uQ9Vbk =============================================================================== 32. Sol Dios Yoda w Nades Normal - 6 Sol Dioses Hard - 9 Sol Dioses Boost like mad all the way to the Sol Dioses then just drop ogoto rounds all over them. Swarm of Red Eyes Yoda Sirus Normal - 80 bajillion bombs Hard - 80 bajillion bombs, 5 aerial targets DON'T TAKE ANY DAMAGE. Use the 0200 rounds on the swarms of bombs and when the aerial targets come into view, douse them with the sirius rounds. Once the aerial targets are dead, all you have to do is make sure you destroy as many bombs as your ammo can take out. Unseen Assailant Yoda ER Normal - 5 normals Hard - 5 normals Boost out of the tunnel and drop straight down, turning your mech slightly to the left as you fall. When you land, jump right into the tunnel and boost to the other side. Blast away at the first normal, it is at the end of the tunnel. jump right across the pool thing and right into the next tunnel and boost towards the other end. When you come out, start ascending and shooting to your left, another normal is on the first ledge. drop back down and go to the right and jump into that tunnel and boost away. When you exit start ascending and take out 1 normal on your left, then spin around to your right and take out another. one more to go. Keep ascending. The tunnel you need to go in is directly above the one you just exited. Boost to the end and aim left when you come out, you should be able to jump, shoot an enemy, and land directly into the tunnel and boost towards the end. When you exit the tunnel, the final target should be directly in front of you one catwalk down.
