BREAK THE TARGETS --The quick guide on how to bash all 250 targets-- For any questions about playing Super Smash Brothers melee, e-mail me at [email protected] Hi! This is a break the targets FAQ, and it's about a year old. So I've UPDATED IT! New PR's! Anyway, this is the guide to finding the quickest way to smash all the targets. ::::KEY TERMS:::: THE MANEUVER: You need to know this, it will be used in the guide often. The maneuver is simply a jump, double jump, and up+b in combination, or the triple jump. PR:personal record, my fastest time beating that character's target challenge. PLATFORM: A platform counts as anything you can stand on. .....DR. MARIO................................................. You begin on a rectangular platform. Use the maneuver upwards to smash the first target. Land on the blue rectangle northeast of the starting point. Jump to the gray sliding platform above. Use the maneuver again, but this time go to the right a little, not just straight up. This will break another target. Fall down onto red backwards c-shaped platform. Turn around and throw a megavitamin. It should hit the target below the starting point. Jump into the lower part of your platform and smash the target there. Go back up. Using the maneuver again, jump upwards but keep to the right, against the tall red pillar. Turn and use up+b through through the wall to break the next target. Now go way up to the top of the tall blue rectangle on the left. (use the sliding platforms) Use the maneuver again, this time heading left, to eliminate another target. Drop down to the left side of the tall rectangle and hit the target there. You may have to go down through some of the sliding platforms if they get in the way. Jump backwards underneath the rectangle to get back to the starting point. Now, head back up to the top of the rectangle. This time when you go down, make sure you can land on the bottom sliding platform on the left side. Wait until the time is right, then throw a megavitamin at the distant target to the left. Now jump all the way back up to the top of the blue rectangle and over to the large red metal platform. Go right and use the maneuver to go far up and to the right, breaking another target. Now fall back down and try to land on the rising and falling gray platform. Drop through it and smash the last target. PR: 47 sec. .....MARIO....................................................... Go right on the red platform, break the target. Drop down, break second target. Jump up and break the target just right of the second one. Make sure you don't go too far out to the right, or you won't be able to get back and will soon be sleeping with the fishes. Use the maneuver as high as you can go to break the target surrounded by the upper red platform. Drop down and throw a fireball towards the water to break the target out there. Turn around and throw another fireball to break the one left of you. Go up and right to the chain of lowering platforms. Throw a fireball at the target southwest of you before jumping onto a gray platform. Ascend by jumping until you reach the top and jump inside the blue c-shaped platform. Break the target. Descend the platforms until you can jump left again and enter the narrow opening leading to another target. Break it. Go back to the chain and ready yourself by turning right and prepare to do the maneuver as far to the right as you can to hit the last target. Wait until the platform you're on is at water level, then jump. Timing is critical. PR: 22 sec. .....LUIGI.......................................................... Not hard. The best way to tackle this is to break the targets in a clockwise direction. Jump up and right to get the ones in the top right corner and punch mroe as you fall. Then, as you're in the bottom right corner, get rid of the ones that come to you, leaving you to jump up and break the target in the upper left c. PR:15 sec. .....BOWSER................................................... Turn around, break first target. Jump to the right, break the target there. Jump up left and break a third target. Go down and right, past the flipper. Break target. Go down and then turn left, breaking the target that is further down. Jump up to the next platform and break next target. Spin upwards between the two pillars on the left side to get the target up there. Head back right and up to the part where you came down and jump over the pillar, smashing the target just to the right side of it. Drop onto the small platform below and break the target there. Jump up onto upside down L-shaped platform. Jump right, off of it and spin upwards underneath to break the final target. PR:24 sec. .....PEACH...................................................... Turn around, break first target. Hit the one above the platform when you open peach's umbrella and float down left. Break the target below the reverse L-shaped platform with the umbrella. Then float right, slowly descending and land on the moving platform. Jump high upwards to the right and use the umbrella again, hitting the target up there. Make your way back up to the starting point. Go to the far right edge of the thick platform you're standing on and jump up with the umbrella to break another target high up. Sink back down to the bottom, below the thick platform, where there are three thin, vertical poles. Break the two targets there and come out on the right side. Use the umbrella to break the target in the upper right corner. Go back down and off the edge, breaking the final target off the right edge as you descend. PR:33 sec. .....YOSHI........................................................ Jump up and break the target on the platform to the right. Jump up and slightly right, throw an egg at the target below the small rectangle. Fall down and break the bouncing target. Jump up left and up left again. Then jump up a final time so you're left of the J-shaped platform. Backwards hurl an egg to hit the target. If you aren't very good, just jump up there and manually break it. Fall back down to the wooden log platform and break the target. Egg roll right, breaking two more targets. Head left again and jump into the backwards c-shaped platform, break ninth target. Drop down to the moving white platform and jump to the right. Hesitate a moment before doing the second jump or you'll jump too high and will go up through the log platform. Break last target. PR:21 sec. .....DONKEY KONG......................................... Up+b will break the first two targets, as they are surrounding you. Head right and break the moving target. Go up and left, smashing a fourth. Go right again to the gray platform. Head up and left, breaking the target on the highest red platform. Go left and up to a moving gray platform. Jump, double jump, and up+b will get you to the higher target if you head left. Drop down again and break the lower target. Go under the lower gray platform (above the blue part) and break the target. Go up and left, between the two blue segments and up onto the small blue square to the left. Use the maneuver to smash the final target. PR:24 sec. .....CAPTAIN FALCON...................................... Jump onto the right blue platform and punch the target. Jump up onto the big neon greeen platform and break the target above. Jump tot he right and land on the bright blue platform. Ride it up and jump over to the cane shaped platform to the left. Break the target. Jump back down to the starting point and break the bouncing target. Break the target to the left of that one. Run up the triangle to your left and jump up to the small neon green platform, breaking the target there. Jump left between the two trapezoids that go up and down. Land there and break the target they hold. Turn right and wait until the trapezoids you are standing between go down and break the target. Jump up left onto the break in the tall metal pillar and Falcon Punch (b) the target. Jump onto the top of the upper trapezoid you were below before and ride it up. JUmp left to the very top of the metal pillar and drop off to the left, break the target as you fall. Be careful to time your punch right or you'll miss it and will have to start over. PR:34 sec. ......GANONDORF............................................ Hit first target quickly as it flies by. Wait and punch next two targets as they pass. Jump up and hit center target. Wait and attack two more targets when they come by. Go to the platform on the right. A target will peek in from the upper right. Break it. Another target will whiz by from the right of the screen. It will come back if you don't hit it the first time. Jump back to the original platform and left onto the left platform. Wait for another target to pop up from the lower left. Break it. Now the tricky one. Go back to the main platform. Jump up onto one of the platforms zooming by towards the left side. Try to get one that's farther right so you'll have plenty of time. Try to jump up and break the moving target. Succeed and you're done. Watch out for the spikes, they will hurt you. PR:25 sec. .....FALCO....................................................... You start on an odd-shaped platform. Jump up and break the first target. Wait for another one to come in from the left. Break it. Turn right and fire madly until the target circling the glowing block breaks. Watch out for these glowing yellow blocks, you will bounce forcefully off of them if you come in contact with one. Jump down onto the gray platform to the right. A target will appear and vanish repeatedly above you. Wait until it shows up, then use your up+b attack to break it. Jump left onto the original platform. Keep to the rightmost part of it. A target will quickly circle around. Kick and punch rapidly until you hit it. Jump down into one of the small middle sections of the rightmost platform. A target here will go up and down. Break it. Drop down cautiously and use up+b towards the right and up to get inside the rightmost platform you were on. Break the target there. Blast upwards to return to the top. Jump left, back to the starting point. Drop down in between the two glowing yellow blocks. You will bounce crazily between them. If you're lucky, you will land safely on the left side. Break the target there. Then face right, looking at the two yellow blocks you just went through. Jump up and drop a little until you are eye level with the target and fire. Of course, you're moving to fast to see when you are eye level, so time your shots carefully. Use the maneuver upwards and left to break the very high final target. PR:33 sec. .....FOX........................................................... You have a few targets on your left side. Jump and fire until you hit the two left of you. Ignore the moving target below. Use the maneuver upwards and right to get to the top of the big, thick pillar. Break the target straight above you. Drop right, down into the big dip and break the target there. Jump back up to the right. Jump again and use up+b to break the high target inside the enclosed space. (you will go up through the bottom) Drop back down onto a small platform. It's just above two of those mean yellow blocks. Use your jump+shoot combo to break the target by the tall rectangle to your right. Use the maneuver upwards to get another target just right of the enclosed space you were up in before. Drop to the right onto a smaller platform below the tall rectangle. Use the jump+shoot to break the next target. Return to the platform above the yellow block. This time, drop left. Make a daring leap left between the small yellow block and the pillar. If you're lucky, you'll survive and can jump onto the safe platform to the left. Break the target above. Shoot left, breaking that rising and lowering target you left behind at the start. You're done. PR:31 sec. .....NESS......................................................... Use up+b (PK thunder) to break the first target above you. Use it again, going straight up through the high platform above, breaking another target. Move right, to the platform left of the two targets . Hold b and direct the flashing green light around to the space between the two targets. Releasse it to break them both. Go left until you're on the platform above the nearly enclosed target. Use up+b and direct it in a tight counter clockwise circle around to the target below. Watch the special movie to see the pros do it. Jump left onto the red platform and use up+b to aim for the target to your upper left. You may need to move forward or back up to make room for an arc done with up+b again to hit the lower target to your left. Jump upwards and double jump to the left to the blue platform. Then jump right to the very top of the red platform. Jump to the islolated moving blue platform in the center of the stage. Then jump up to the red platforms on the right. Drop down into the left column and go for the target in there. Jump back up to the second pillar in. Use right>+b (PK fire) to break the target to your right. Drop into the next column to break the final target. PR:37 sec. .....ICE CLIMBERS........................................... Jump to the green platform to the right. Hit the target. Be careful, the platforms can break too. Head up and left to the target on the brown platform. Smash it. Jump to the blue platform up on the right. Break the target. Wait for the ice platform to come around. Jump up and quickly jump again to the middle blue platform. These higher ones will not break. But the targets will...Hit the one in front of you. Jump up right and hit the target up there. Go left and leap over the obstacle. Break the target on the left. Jump way up above the obstacle you leapt over (blue pillar) and above where the next icy platform passes by. HIt upwards to break the target. Catch the next platform and hit the target in midair. Then go up left to the target in the upper left corner. Break it and head to the roof. Jump up and try to catch the target high above. It's a little hard because a large bird of some sort from the Ice Climbers game is flying around with it. PR:41 sec. .....KIRBY........................................................ Kick the target to your left. Jump to the far right and hammer through the wall to break the next target. Go to the drop hole and make yourself a rock to drop through, breaking two targets as you fall. Unrock yourself (up+b when rock) and go down and left the the left piece of platform. Use up+b to break the target right above you. Jump out, above the log platform, and up to the upper right. Break the target hanging off the edge when you reach safe ground. Go break the target to the right. Jump up to the left and break the two targets in the caves to your left and right. Go down to the wooden log platform and "fly" right, under the huge block platform and over to the last target. Use up+b with your final breath to break it. PR:24 sec. .....SAMUS...................................................... Use the maneuver to break the very highest target. Break the target beside you when you land. Jump up to the high left platform, break the target. Drop down and head left, breaking the target on the far left side. Go down in the center and head left through the narrow opening, break the target. Go farther down and left, jump to the platform. Spin jump upwards to break the target. Backtrack to your starting point. Go right, to the isolated platform. You know what to do. Then, spin jump up left to break the target. Drop down to the thin moving platform and break the target. Jump up and left and fall through the middle hole of the stage. Spin jump to break the final target. PR:26 sec. .....ZELDA....................................................... You can do this as either Zelda or Shiek. Shiek is easier. Transform into Shiek. Okay. Break the target besied you. Drop left and kick the target. Drop down and use chain whip to break the two lower targets. Go up to first platform and down right. Break the two targets. Go back up to center platform. Jump up into the middle of the golden triforce formation. Use the vanish move to break the target below the platform and break the target above it when you reappear. Jump our of the left side of the triforce symbols and land way down on the platform to the left. Drop through it and use the vanish move back up, breaking the target if you vanish in the right spot. Now go over to the right end of the stage. Jump way over and vanish when you're just below the target to break it. PR:25 sec. .....LINK........................................................... Jump with up+b to break first two targets. Jump left and slash next target. Use the bow and arrow (b) to break the two targets to the far left individually. You may have to wait for the thin block to go up before you can hit the one on the far left. Drop down through your platform and use up+b to break the target below the platform. Make it back up to the starting point and drop down to the right. Jump up and right to break another target and head upwards. The last two targets up there should be no problem. PR:24 sec. .....YOUNG LINK.............................................. Use the maneuver up wards to break the first target. Now to learn a move that is practically useless, except in this situation. Jump against a wall and jerk the control stick right. Then, jerk it left. Jerk the control stick back and forth until Young Link makes it all the way up to the top. Be careful not to fall off of either edge. Pull out a Link bomb. (down+b) Jump up and throw it at the target behind the flipper. Go up and right onto the rectangle. Pull out another bomb. Jump up high and throw it over at the farther of the targets. Go back up to the rectangle if you jumped off of it. Throw the boomerang toward the left and jump down to the right, break the two targets there. When the boomerang returns, it will break the target inside the rectangle. Drop down to the large directional arrow-shaped blocks. Fire an arrow to the right. If you did it correctly, the arrow will go between the flippers and break a target. Drop between the "arrow" blocks and land on the small block below. Slash the target there. Jump back up to the platform just right of the big rectangle. Jump right, up over the log that slides up and down. Break that target. Jump back over and wait for the log to slide up. Then jump into the space left by the log and break the last target inside. PR:29 sec. .....PICHU........................................................ Go to the left edge of the swinging pendulum and use down+b to produce lightning. Keep using this attack until you hear a target break high above. Use the same technique to break the target circling the top of the pendulum. Go to the right and use the lightning attack again to break the target way way above as the pendulum swings to the right. Again, you can't see this one, so count on the breaking sound. Use the b attack to produce blue shocks. Keep using them until the target to the left of the pendulum breaks and the one to the right breaks. A double piece platform will go up and down. Shoot shocks (b) down at the target between the two pieces and then jump over to it before it falls off the screen. Jump up to the left and break the two targets there. (one goes up and down) Make your way back to the pendulumand go over to the area with the falling platforms. Jump back and forth, up and up between platforms until you get all the way to the top. Break the target up there. Land back on a platform and hit the lower target when you're ready. PR:40 sec. .....PIKACHU................................................... Jump and hit the target above you. Do the same for the one just to the right. Go up the "stairs" to your right until you see a target above you. Use down+b to break it. Use b when facing right to send a shock that should break the target to the right. If not, get closer and try again. Go right and up and use up+b (quick attack) to break the target in the upper right corner. Jump to the left and land on one of the green platforms. You can use the quick attack (fast, blue flashing jump) to break the target above and redirect to the left to break the second, or you can hit them individually. Drop left and use another b attack to destroy the target below the base platform. Jump into the c-shaped platform and break the target. Jump up into the next cave up and smash the final target. PR:21 sec. .....JIGGLYPUFF.............................................. This is the very hardest of all the break the targets challenges. It requires a reasonable mastery of Jigglypuff's jumping, kicking, and punching abilities. Don't give up if you don't succeed the first twenty times. Hit the target in front of you. Turn around and hit another. Jump between the first set of flashing red panels. Don't hit the red parts, they will hurt you. Break the target and go through the second set of panels. Ascend to the top left corner and hit the target there. Make your way towards the right from there, breaking targets along the way and dodging blocks as they fly by. Get down to the next level on the far right. This is the hard part. Jump outwards and hit the first target. Descend some and hit the next. Use a jump to get to the next one and another jump or two to get to the third one out. Leap with your final effort and smash the last one! PR:15 sec. .....MEWTWO.................................................. Jump up and break the moving target above. Jump higher and try to catch the target in teh moving orange box. Drop down through your platform and onto the left pillar. A target will come out of the pillar underneath you. Break it. Jump to the right and break the target. Teleport back up to the pillar on the right. Break the target that pops up. Catch the blue moving box, break the target. Go back to the starting platform. Jump up and use up+a to break a target high above. Do the same for the target beside it. Try to land on top of one of the moving colored boxes and break the target in the upper right direction. Drop back down through the center (between the two big pillars) and hit the final target on your way down. PR:22 sec. .....MR. GAME & WATCH................................. All of the targets are flying madly around. A good way to get rid of most of them is to pull out the trusty firefighters (up+b) and fling yourself up at as many as you can at a time. The only tricky ones are the ones in and above the house. The door will open and close, but the target will not appear every time the door opens. Be ready for it. PR:8 sec. .....MARTH...................................................... Use a jump and up+b to break the first target. Go left and onto the small moving platform. A flipper will try to knock you off. Try to stay on. Hit the two targets to your left with the sword and try to make it back right again without being battered too much by the flipper. Go right and jump up through the first hole. Break the target to your upper left and then use the maneuver to get up to the thin platform above where you started, breaking the target. Jump up and left over the flipper, slashing the two targets there. Go back to the thin platform. Jump up and right this time over the pillar on the highest platform. Break the target. Go back down and left around the maze shaped block. Go in the left hole and seek out the target there. Go down and jump off the right edge, slashing the last target as you fall. PR:34 sec. .....ROY........................................................... Break the target above. Drop down and to the right, barely missing the square platform. Use up+b to get up, breaking the target in the square. Slash the target in the other box and the one moving up and down. Use the maneuver straight upwards to break the target high above and get to the platform above it. Go left and jump up to break the target. Jump way left and hit the upper target. Bounce off the flipper left, landing on the platform farther down. Break the two targets there. Use the maneuver again to break the final target.PR:16 sec.
