I am tempted to add a fast times section. I just need enough people to enter. Added updated MSN address which is now: [email protected] ______________________________________________________________________________ Version 0.6 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ _________________________ (Wednesday June 20th, 2001): ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ I'm about to make a "freequently asked questions" section, and put in a fair bit more work before the GBA comes out (in 2 days). ________________________ (Thursday June 21st, 2001): ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Added "Game Data" Section. GBA is out here tomorrow! w00t! I have a feeling I'll be very consumed by Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, and Castlevania: Circle of the Moon and when I need a break from them I'll be playing F-Zero. I most likely won't have a lot of time to work on the FAQ for the next few days (I've also just bought 6 games, 5 of which (3 Dreamcast, 2 n64) were really cheap, so I've got a lot to play at the moment. You never know, I may find the strength to put down my GBA for a while and work on the FAQ more. Who knows? I really can't think of anything else to add to the FAQ at this time... If you have any ideas please by all means email me. Unless I think of more stuff to add the FAQ is basically complete, and only minor changes and additions will occur in the future.... (this is *NOT* the last update/final version). Damn my insomnia.... I go to bed at 10:00pm, get to sleep sometime after 2:30am >_< I'm tired, only one day of school left this week, and the GBA comes out tomorrow, hopefully I won't be so tired I can't pull and all nighter on Friday and play nothing but GBA. ______________________ (Friday June 22nd, 2001): ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ I've got my GBA, which is AWESOME. I'm enjoying it a ton, but I'll have plenty of time to have a break from it and work on the FAQ I think.... *picks up GBA with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 in it....* *is tempted* *puts it back down* I shall be fine, I'll put in a bit of time on the FAQ at least, though I don't have much more to ad to the FAQ at the moment. *puts down GBA* I think my next FAQ will be Maps for Diddy Kong Racing, not sure if I'll do it yet though. I really like making maps. I think I'll go start it now actually. ________________________ (Saturday June 23rd, 2001): ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ The first version of my Diddy Kong Racing FAQ is now up on GameFAQs, and I am about to submit Version 0.6 of this FAQ. Don't expect too many more updates of this FAQ, and when I do update it you will probably only see minor changes. Perhaps I'll move the Version history section further down the FAQ? ______________________________________________________________________________ Version 0.5 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ _______________________ (Tuesday June 19th, 2001): ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Started work on another map. Finished ALL MAPS! Whoo! I'm going to add the map section in a few minutes. Added Map section. (YAY!). I'm going to get to do the Game Date section today or tomorrow. _________________________ (Wednesday June 20th, 2001): ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ I'm about to submit this version of the FAQ, then start work on the next. ______________________________________________________________________________ Version 0.4 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ _____________________ (Friday June 15th, 2001): ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ I think I will do maps for each of the levels.... They take forever to make though, so don't _expect_ maps for every level in the next update. I was away from school today, due to dizzyness and a headache, which I still have (6:01pm)..so bleah! If I am feeling better I'll get to work on a map or two tonight. I'm also thinking of putting in a stunt section, with how to perform them, difficulty to pull off, points able to be scored and perhaps a few other categories. Decided that I WILL make a game data setion, with some info on the game (relsaes date, game pak size etc). I'm going to put in a little Menu section, with all of the stuff from the different menus listed. ________________________ (Saturday June 16th, 2001): ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Completed the Menu section. ______________________ (Sunday June 17th, 2001): ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Made a second map...more to come very soon. ______________________ (Monday June 18th, 2001): ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Worked on stunt section a bit. _______________________ (Tuesday June 19th, 2001): ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Moved document from notepad to MS Word (probably not permanent), expect more maps and a lot more work on the stunt section in the next update or two. Moved document over to MetaPad (thanks GalFord)... hehe, I told you the last move was probably not permanent ^_^ GameBoy Advance comes out here in 3 days, and my Birthday is on the 25th (good timing), I'm gonna pick one up on launch, and a few games (probably Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, Castlevania and F-Zero for starters). I might be too caught up playing it to really work on the guide, so just a warning. But you never know, I may be able to put it down for a few hours to work on this. Only time will tell I guess. I put in a lot more work on the FAQ, just incase I don't have any time *cough* GBA *cough* to work on it for the next few days or so......this version (0.4) is just about ready to be submitted now. I'm just about to submit version 0.4 of the FAQ... Much more stuff to come next update. ______________________________________________________________________________ Version 0.3 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ _________________________ (Wednesday June 13th, 2001): ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Not too much really...just added a few tiny things here and there. Thinking of creating a tricks section. We'll see what happens I guess. ________________________ (Thursday June 14th, 2001): ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Finished up two assignments for school, still have another two to go but they aren't due in for a while, so I can breathe easy (for the moment) and put a fair amount of time into the FAQ over the next few days. ________________________ (Thursday June 14th, 2001): ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ I'm thinking about making maps for each course... still not sure if I will, fell free to email me to say "YES, make the maps" or "No don't bother"... They may not turn out too brilliant, but hey, I might give it a go. Incase you somehow missed it: [email protected] For an example of what a map might look like see section 11.....(whic is now 16) ______________________________________________________________________________ Version 0.2 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ _______________________ (Tuesday June 12th, 2001): ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Did I tiny bit of work on most of the sections. More major updates and changes will come when I knock over a good lot of my schoolwork, and get some free time. ______________________________________________________________________________ Version 0.1 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ______________________ (Monday June 11th, 2001): ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ This is the day I start work on my FAQ. Did sections 1-11 putting the basic information that needed to be in there, in there :) Submitted to GameFAQs for the first time. ______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ (5) GAME REVIEW ______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Too see the list of reader reviews for Wave Race 64 on GameFAQs go here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/n64/review/22525.html Here's a copy of my review of Wave Race that has been submitted to GameFAQs: Wave Race is the 2nd game I ever saw in motion for the N64 (Super Mario 64 was first). I can still remember the day I stumbled into a shop and saw a pre release copy of the game running the intro sequence. It was a Saturday, and I had just popped in to the video games department of my favourite store to have my usual look at the games, as I neared the game shelf to have a look I heard some music blasting out of a TV with 3 people staring up at the screen (I was behind the TV) so I walked over to have a look at what was on the TV that was so interesting when I stuck my head around the side of the TV and saw the rippling blue waves as the two jet ski riders zoomed past I but uttered a single word, ****! The people around were not quite happy to hear such a term used and gave me some dirty looks (though the people staring at the TV didn't seem to mind, probably because they were thinking the same thing too.). It was then that I realised that I HAD to own an N64 and Wave Race. Thinking back, I suppose judging a game by it's graphics and deciding to buy it along with it's console wasn't extremely wise, but it turned out to be very well worth my money indeed Gameplay Wave Race plays like a dream. At first it will take some time getting used to (especially turning exactly the way that you want to), but after a week or two you will be controlling your Jet Ski like a pro. Wave Race is (as the name would suggest) mainly about racing, there are 3 difficulties for you to race in Championship mode (the main mode): *Normal *Hard and *Expert You start off only able to race Normal, but once you beat the 6 races on Normal you unlock Hard, when you beat the 7 races on Hard you get Expert. The other modes of play are: Time Trial, 2 Player and Stunt Mode (self-explanatory). The courses, are just a circuit, you do 3 laps, and try to finish 1st, they are well designed, and all are very unique. The Water Physics are AMAZING, the water ripples and moves very realistically , and you craft reacts to the water with extreme accuracy. Nintendo must have spent months, even years working on the amazing water physics seen in Wave Race, as they are truly mind blowingly amazing in both their accuracy and detail. After recently seeing the Wave Race: Blue Storm movies (for the GameCube) I once again poo'd my pants when I saw how amazing the water physics were. In Blue Storm however the water reacts to your craft as well as your craft reacting to the water (Blue Storm is actually running on a much improved Wave Race 64 engine believe it or not). In summary, with the amazing graphics, fantastic water physics, well put together courses, and that Nintendo gameplay, Wave Race 64 really plays like a wet (SEA WATER DAMMIT!) dream. 10/10 Graphics Hmmmmmmm, let me think, will Amazing do? Nah! Excellent? Nah! Fabulous? Nah! Awesome? Nah! Mind blowing! Not quite. Fantastic? Getting warmer. FAN ****ING TASTIC? Well, that will have to do, because I can't really think of anything better to describe it. For it's time (1996) Wave Race 64 had brilliant and never before seen pant wetting quality graphics. Looking back on it, in the year 2001 it still has impressive graphics, and that is really saying something! The water looks GREAT, it ripples, foams excellently and reflects (not brilliantly, but it's still purdy to look at). The water is has a variety of looks, from good old sky blue perfect beach water, to fanta water :P as seen in Sunset bay (at dusk, the sun lights the sky up orange, and the water too) , to reflective and fogged over lake water, icy cold deep blue water to grey water in the rain. The actual characters have a lowish poly count (but it was great for the time), but who cares? You'll spend most of the time looking at the water :P To put it simply, even 6 years after it came out Wave Race 64 looks amazing, and that really says a LOT. 10/10 Sound Wave Rave 64 does very well in the sound department. The music is great, and will have you humming along to the variety of relaxing, and soothing tracks as you race away, play around practicing in dolphin park, or just listen to the music in the music test area. Top notch music and a good amount of it too. The actual sound effects in Wave Race are pretty good, from the roar of the jet ski, to the swwhhhh! of the craft gliding over the water, to the collisions that will send your rider flying. The sound effects suffice, and the Music is awesome, to this day the music in Wave Race remains as some of my favourite music in any game. 9/10 Multiplayer Wave Race has a solid multiplayer mode, only 2 players can race against each other, but this isn't a HUGE hassle. It is fun and good for an hour or two (but still, nothing compared to Goldeneye). The two player mode brings in some fog, but it's not too bad, and really just looks like ocean mist ;). Wave Race is still played a fair amount when I am at gaming parties because of the basic nature of the game, that being that it's easy to just pick up and play. Good quality multiplayer for two people that remains fun for hours, but nothing ground breaking. 8/10 Replayability I must admit that Wave Race is not my most played N64 game (out of over 30), but I do give it a good bash usually about once every month, for a few days. I usually have a quick whirl in dolphin park, then have a few races, and maybe a quick go of trick attack. So, Wave Race isn't totally sitting around collecting dust, but I don't play it religiously either. 8/10 Difficulty I like a game that I can pick up and be used to within a week, and have mastered within under a month. Wave race is fairly much ideal for me. I got a good hang of the game and was winning 3 consecutive races or so within about a week, and by the end of a month I had mastered the game, and could usually get through Normal mode coming 1st or 2nd in 90% of the races. I have lost my touch a bit all these years later, but after an hour of playing most of it comes back to me. Pros *Great graphics *Excellent music *Unbelievable water physics *Very fun to play *Still great 6 years down the track Cons *Wave Race: Blue Storm for GameCube won't be out for a good 6 months or more :P Buy/rent Buy. I LOVE Wave Race, and I am sure everyone else will too. It is an awesome game overall and should be in every N64 gamer's collection. Overall Wave Race 64 was one of the n64's first, and still remains as one of its greatest games. Well worth the purchase, I've put countless hours into this little grey cartridge, and loved every minute. Nintendo really know how to make games, and Wave Race 64 is a prime example of this. This is 100% top notch gaming, it's one of those games that not every body owns, but should. Overall 9.2/10 (rounded to 9 for GameFAQs) - Pyro Vesten ______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ (6) FREEQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ _________ Question: "Does Wave Race work with the rumble pak?" ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ _______ Answer: The original worldwide released versions of Wave Race 64 does not work ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ with the n64 rumble pak, however, a "japan-only" re-release version of Wave Race came out about 2 years after the original version and does feature the use of the rumble pak along with a few other things such as in game ads by "Fanta" among other minor things. _________ Question: "Does Wave Race ever show any credits?" ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ _______ Answer: Wave Race 64 does not show game credits at any point. You also are racing against the clock, and to extend your time you must go through checkpoints set throughout the course. There are extra ramps for air tricks laid out all over the course as well. Two people can play. You race each other on any of the courses besides dolphin park. Nothing else really to say here... =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ OPTIONS =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ What am I supposed to say here? the options menu is the menu in which you can fiddle around with the game options. _ ____________ (_) Change Names ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ here you can (obviously) change the names of the 4 riders. The names can be up to 10 characters long. Perfect for PYROVESTEN :) _ ____________ (_) View Records ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Here you can see your best times and highest scores on all of the courses (no best time for dolphin park though). Under "Best Times" you can see the top 3 overall times, and the best individual lap. Under "Score" you can view the top 3 scores for each course. _ _________________ (_) Change Conditions ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ (note, this can only be done to modes you have beaten, e.g. beat normal mode in championship and you can change it's conditions and so on) Here you can change the "conditions" of the water on Normal, Hard and Expert mode, as well as the number of misses allowed, and the number of laps to be raced. You can choose "Defaults" to reset these options back to the way they were. Wave Conditions - Default, Calm, Wild, Random. Number of Misses - 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. Number of Laps - 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9. _ _____ (_) Audio ¯¯¯¯¯ Here you can do 3 things. Audio Setting - Change from Headphone, Stereo and Mono Music - Choose wether you want music ON or OFF. Listen to Music - Listen to the 25 different tracks featured in Wave Race. _ ____________________ (_) Erase Course Records ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Here you can erase specific data. You can erase all times for each of the courses (one by one) so for example if you wanted to erase ONLY your times on Port Blue, then you can erase ONLY your times on Port Blue. You can also erase scores for each course, from Stunt Mode the same way (one by one). _ _____________ (_) Save and Load ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Here you can copy and erase save files. You can copy files from N64 to Controller pak, and from controller pak to N64 Game Pak. So if your friend hasn't unlocked everything in Wave Race (like Reverse courses you can give them your file, by taking it over on a memory pak, and upload it to their game cart). You can erase files from both the Game pak, and memory pak. _ ___ (_) End ¯¯¯ This exists the options menu, and takes you back to the title screen. AMAZING! ______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ (9) RIDERS AND CUSTOMIZATION OPTIONS ______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ______________________________________________________________________________ Riders ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ NOTE: The top speeds are in km/h because I have the PAL version of the game, and speed is measured in km/h. _________ R. Hayami ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Top Speed with default settings: 120 km/h From my experience I'd say Hayami handles a bit better than Stewart. Hayami is about on par, if not a tad better at stunts than Stewart. Costume one (default): Green and blue are the choices in colour for Hayami's clothes. The Jet Ski is mainly blues, with a bit of red. The Jet Ski sports the number "2". Costume two (special): Red and yellow (fire colours >:P) are the choice in colours for costume number two of Hayami. The Jet Ski's blues are replaced with reds, and it's red replaced with blue. Number 3 this time. THE VERDICT: Hayami is all around average. Use M. Jeter! :P __________ A. Stewart ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Top Speed with default settings: 106 km/h Stewart turns pretty ordinary, and I'd say she had bad to average handling. Stewart is about average at stunts..... don't expect to be double-backflipping with her. Costume one (default): *smack* bad Nintendo! *smack* again! Just because Stewart is female doesn't mean she _has_ to be in pink *smack* ah well. Even the Jet Ski is pink, but at least it has some yellow there too. Jet Ski is Numbered with 4. Costume two (special): Better. Blue clothes are much better. The Jet Ski though goes from pink and yellow, to pink and purple. 8 is the number slapped onto the Jet Ski this time. THE VERDICT: Use M. Jeter :P ________ M. Jeter ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Top Speed with default settings: 120 km/h Jeter handles very well. Jeter is a stunt pro, and can easily do a double backflip of most ramps without any trouble. Costume one (default): Mostly blue, and a tiny bit of red is what you'll see Good 'ol Jeter wearing, oh and black legs (well ski suit legs ;) The jet ski is blue mostly, with some redy-browns on it too. Fittingly, number 1 is the Jet Skit number. Costume two (special): The looks a hell of a lot like Mariner's first costume. Green and yellow. The second Jet Ski "costume" is number 7. THE VERDICT: M. Jeter is the person to use, he has a nice top speed, knows his stunts like no other, turns great and is an overall great package. __________ D. Mariner ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Top Speed with default settings: 120 km/h Mariner turns about the same as Stewrt (bad to average). Mariner is surely the worst of the riders when it comes to stunts.... Don't even think about it. Costume one (default): As with Jeter's second costume, you'll be wearing green and yellow mostly. Jet ski matches your colours, but adds in a bit of blue. Number 22.... Costume two (special): Eww! Greyishy-green and ugly brown. Has this man no taste in clothes??? The Jet Ski is a tad more respectable though, dark red, and white. Number 95.... quite a way from the rest of them... THE VERDICT: Do_not_ever_use_D. Mariner. NEVER! Unless you want a severe handicap in both turning and pulling off stunts. ______________________________________________________________________________ Customization Options ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ To start off, a little info on the scale. There are 12 different setting for Handling, Engine and Grip. Here's a diagram of the three different scales, with the adjustment bar in the middle of them (like the "Normal" setting). --|HANDLING|-- Light Heavy ___________________________________ | | | | | |##| | | | | | | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ --|ENGINE|-- Dash Top End ___________________________________ | | | | | |##| | | | | | | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ --|GRIP|-- Loose Tight ___________________________________ | | | | | |##| | | | | | | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Now, I'm sure you're all wondering what the hell the three setting mean, and more importantly, what they effect when moved around from the default position. Allow me to explain. The one you most likely care about, is the one that effects SPEED and ACCELERATION. That happens to be "ENGINE"... ______ ENGINE ¯¯¯¯¯¯ Tweaking around with the Engine scale will tinker with your maximum speed and also your acceleration. If you are wondering, Dash and Top End mean this: Dash - The engine is good for quick starts, but doesn't get as fast Top End - You'll take more time to reach top speed, but your top speed will be better than usual. ________ HANDLING ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Lighten up your handling and you'll loose a tiny amount off your top speed, and be able to jump a tiny, tiny bit higher. If you set your handling to Heavy you'll gain some top speed, but not be able to jump quite so high. ____ GRIP ¯¯¯¯ Tightening your grip will result in slightly better turning, but will lower your top speed. Loosening your grip will result in looser turning, but you'll gain a tiny bit on your top speed. ______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ (10) STUNTS ______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ In this section I will explain how to perorm each stunt, and the points you can get for doing them. I'm only listing stunts _I_ have performed. I have heard that a triple flip can be performed somewhere, but I've never done it, so I'm not gonna list it. Note: It is very hard to get an accurate number for the points awarded for doing certain stunts, so please don't kill me if some of them are a little off. =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ Acrobatic Stunts =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ _________ Handstand - 310+ points ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Let off the accelerator, move the control stick down then up and hold. You can keep the hand stand for as long as you want by holding it forward/up. To stop the hand stand move the control down from the upwards position for a second. ________________ Ride standing up - 135+ points ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Let off the accelerator, move the control stick counter-clockwise starting from up, and back to up. To continue riding s tanding on the base of the handlebar keep holding up on the control stick. To stop riding let the control stick return to it's normal position. ________________________________________________ Ride standing up then backfip to normal position - 540+ points ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Let off the accelerator, move the control stick counter-clockwise starting from up, and back to up. To continue riding standing on the base of the handlebar keep holding up on the control stick. To backflip back to a normal position pull down on the control stick when standing on the handlebar. ______ Rotate - 550+ points ¯¯¯¯¯¯ Let off the accelerator and then rotate the control stick clockwise from up to up, same as "ride standing up". Your rider should "rotate" around the handlebar. ______________ Ride backwards - 550+ points ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Once again, let off the accelerator then rotate the control stick clockwise from up to up, but once the rider gets half way, move and hold the control stick down. You will be able to ride backwards. To stop riding backwards let the control stick return to it's normal position. =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ Arial Stunts =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ ________ BackFlip - 1100+ points ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Hold forward on the control stick while you approach a ramp, once you hit the ramp, and just before you are about to launch from it pull the control stick from the up position down, and hold it. _______________ Double BackFlip - 2200+ points ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ This is best done with M. Jeter, and the larger the ramp size, the better. It is performed the same way as the standard flip, only you hold down for longer so that you will flip backwards twice, rather that once. _________________ Sideways BackFlip - 1400+ points ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ This is performed much like the standard BackFlip, just that instead of approaching the ramp from straight on and then continuing on straigh to perform the stunt, you try to turn to the side while riding up the ramp and then flip...it's kind of hard for my to explain how to do this trick in words, but I hope you get the idea. To put it simply, just the same as a standard BackFlip, but when on the ramp you try to turn 90 degrees to the left or right and then flip. ___________ Barrel Roll - 1400+ points ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ For a right barrel roll; Approach a ramp, and as you hit it move the control stick left then just as you launch from it move the control stick right and hold. For a left barrel roll; Approach a ramp, and as you hit it move the control stick right then just as you launch from it move the control stick left and hold. ______________ Submarine Dive - 500+ points ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Ride towards a ramp, hit it and then hold forward on the control stick, this should point the nose of the Jet Ski downwards and when you hit the water you should be totally submerged for a few seconds (depending on how long you keep holding forward). =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ Other =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ ___________________________ Submarine dive without ramp - 500+ points ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ While riding hold forward on the control stick as you hit a wave, you should do a submarine dive for a few seconds. _________ "Wheelie" - 0 - 100+ points ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Hold down/back on the control stick as you ride for a few seconds, your Jet Ski should tip backwards and cause you to do a "Jet Ski Wheelie". And alternate way of doing this is moving the control stick up and down a few times. This method can get you points, whereas the first only looks cool ;) _________________________ Backflip off small waves! - 1100+ points ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ To perform this kewel trick approach a wave and as you hit it press down then up then down and hold (really fast). You should be able to backflip easily (especially with M. Jeter). ______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ (11) COURSES ______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ Dolphin Park =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ The Game's warm-up course. Enclosed in a circular area. There are two ramps in the middle of to course, some jettey's to ride under (while avoiding the support bars), a kidney shaped area of land and a mini tunnel to go under. This is great for practicing your basic skills such as tricks, cornering, dodging obstacles and passing throught small spaces. This is stricly a practice course and cannot be raced on. =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ Sunny Beach =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ The first race course, it's very basic. Long/sharp oval shaped, sharp turns at each end. No obstacles. Should be able to win easy, just make sure you get the speed boost at the start of the race. =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ Sunset Bay =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ Also know by some (myself included) as "Fanta Water" Bay.....(play it and you'll see why). L shaped circuit, with one jump, farily easy, waves can be a bit choppy, get infront at the start with a rocket start, and just keep the lead (shouldn't be too hard). =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ Drake lake =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ Square-ish course, rounded edges. Very calm (it is a lake after all). Heavy fog to begin with, clears away 1/2 of the way through the race. Has some wood sticking up from the water in one area and some weed (which will slow you down). Again, a fairly easy race to win, just get infront at the start, and keep your position. =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ Marine Fortress =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ Marine Fortress is set during a storm, and has VERY CHOPPY water. There are some crates floating around that you'll have to aviod. This can be a bit of a pain, as you may hit a HUGE wave right when you want to turn, and instead go flying into the air and miss the next checkpoint because you were in the air when you wanted to be turning. If you can master the bumpy waves, this course isn't terribly hard. =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ Port Blue =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ Another L shaped course, this time a "fatter" L (I hope you understand what I mean....). Slightly chopper water. One of the easier courses, in my opinion at least. There is an area in which you can choose 2 different ways to go, where the track brances off and then re joins a little further down the line. One of the ways is the "standard way to go", it's slower than the shortcut, but much easier to navigate than the 2nd way which is a very narrow tunnel, with a few sharp turns. I suggest mastering the 2nd route, because it is definetly the way to go if you want to win. =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ Twilight City =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ Set at night, this feels a little like the Las Vegas of the Wave Race tracks, as it has lots of purdy bright lights.... It's the first of two "extra" courses, that aren't accessable at the begining of the game. Not too hard to win here either, there is an area in the track that has two ways to go, around, or over a jump. Going over the jump is by far the best way to go, and is much faster than going around. That's pretty much all the advice I can give for this course. =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ Glacier Coast =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ The 2nd "extra" course. A lot of obstacles to run into right when you are about to win the race, including huge icebergs that can also act as ramps, narrow gaps to squeeze through and floating balls of ice that will explode when you hit them, but also send you flying from your craft. This race is pretty easy to win, provided you have a perfect run (which isn't exactly easy) but can be done with practice. My tips for Glacier Coast, if you can avoid all obstacles, and make it around all of the markers you will be set for a fairly easy win. As they say, practice makes perfect. =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ Southern Island =-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+=-+ Ok, there's not *too* much to be said about this course, other than the fact that the water level decreases each lap. On the first lap you will come to a large ramp, go over it, and hold down on the control stick, thid will cause you to "submarine" underwater, and you should be able to make it under the jetty (providing you have enough speed). On the second and third laps go around the ramp, and straight under the jetty (the water level will have dropped by now, so you will be able to just ride straight under. ______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ (12) MAPS ______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Here are maps for each of the raceable courses in Wave Race. ______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ _______________________________________ START RACE INSTANTLY WITH MAXIMUM POWER ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ To do this very handy trick, watch as the lights at the start of the race change, and listen as the commentator say "3", "2", "1" "GO!". To time this right, simply hit the accelerate button right as the light goes green/the commentator says "GO!". This usually will get you to the front of the pack, and you will have instant full power (rather than having to clear 5 markers in a row). Very handy indeed, and a great way of winning races. _______________________ RECOVER FROM FALLS FAST ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Whenever you fall from your craft due to a collision with something, or someone (or oversteering) tap the A button as fast as you can and your rider will get back up from the fall MUCH faster. This is a nifty little trick, that can mean the difference from winning and loosing. __________________________ EXRTA POINTS IN STUNT MODE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ In Stunt Mode to get extra point for every trick you do, pull off a trick for example a backflip, and just as you hit the water from landing pause the game, and the commentator will say something about the trick, unpause and continue this process for the duration of the stunt mode. At the end of the race you should end up with many more points than you would have gotten just tricking the normal way. _____________________ BACKFLIP OFF ANY WAVE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ When racing, just as you hit a wave hit Down, Up, and hold down again (very fast), this should cause you to do a backflip off any wave you do it on. Very handy for impressing your friends, and getting extra points ^_^ ______________ COSTUME CHANGE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ On the rider/craft select screen hold up on the control stick and you will be given a second costume for your rider plus a new paint job on your Jet Ski. _______________ REVERSE COURSES ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Complete the game on Expert mode to receive mirror versions of the tracks. ____________________ UNLOCK TWILIGHT CITY ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ To get this night course with a touch of Vegas complete the game on HARD. ____________________ UNLOCK GLACIER COAST ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ To get Glacier Coast complete the Game on Expert mode. ______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ (14) GAME DATA ______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ____________________ Developer - Nintendo ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ____________________ Publisher - Nintendo ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ _________________________________ Release Data - November 5th, 1996 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ____________________________ Cartridge Size - 64 MegaBits ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ _____________ Players - 1-2 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ____________________________ Accessories - Controller Pak ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ______________ Genre - Racing ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ (15) FAST TIMES ______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ *IF YOU WISH TO SUBMIT FAST TIMES SEND AN EMAIL WITH YOUR TIMES (Lap and Race) FOR EACH COURSE, YOUR GAME VERSION (PAL/NTSC) AND YOUR RIDER.* Ok, hopefully I'll get at least a few people who enter this. Thanks to mum and dad for making me. *mentions NovaStorm, Jarred and ShadowHunter for some reason......* Hi guys! ShadowHunter also wanted me to say that he got my Wave Race file deleted by getting me to do the "lop sided cart trick", and the moral of that story is DON'T DO THE "LOP SIDED CART TRICK" TO WAVE RACE!!! Which is true by the way, it also happened to my 1080 Snowboarding game, so kiddies, don't try that at home unless you don't mind your file being erased... THANKS TO YOU FOR READING!!! That's all I can think of for now... ______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ (18) LEGAL ______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Put simply: THIS FAQ MAY ONLY APPEAR ON www.GameFAQs.com and www.CheatCodes.com DO YOU UNDERSTAND? Now, this is your warning if I get anymore automated spam like that I will be very abusive in my responce. Got it? This is your warning, and my justification. I will refer back to this if need be. ============================================================================= ____ __ __ _ | _ \ _ _ _ __ ___ \ \ / / ___ ___ | |_ ___ _ __ | |_) | | | | | | '__| / _ \ \ \ / / / _ \ / __| | __| / _ \ | '_ \ | __/ | |_| | | | | (_) | \ V / | __/ \__ \ | |_ | __/ | | | | |_| \__, | |_| \___/ ____\_/ _\___| |___/ \__| \___| |_| |_| |___/ / / ___ \ \ |___ \ / _ \ / _ \ / | | | / __| | | __) | | | | | | | | | | | | | | (__ | | / __/ | |_| | | |_| | | | | | \___| | | |_____| \___/ \___/ |_| \_\ /_/ ============================================================================= This document is Copyrighted 2001 Steven "Pyro Vesten" Ryan. Well, that sums this version of my very first FAQ.... I guess there's nothing more to say really.... I hope you enjoyed reading it, and I hope that it was in some way, some kind of help to you. I'll be working on an update as of the minute I submit this ;), I just have to knock off all my damn schoolwork that just keeps getting piled on top of me, then I can work on this until me heart is content. (most of it is delt with now, YAY!) *goes off to watch more movies of Wave Race: Blue Storm for the GameCube* Even though it may not be THE BEST GameCube title in the first few months of it's realease, I am anticipating it the most out of any other game (equally as much as StarWars Rogue Squdron 2: Rogue Leader). Wave Race: Blue Storm, in my opinion will definetly justify buying a GameCube, so if you aren't going to buy one (or haven't already if you read this buy the time the GameCube is out), I suggest getting one, not just for Wave Race: Blue Storm but, certainly so you can play it, along with all of the other great GameCube games to come. Till next update......BYE and THANKS FOR READING!
