We just got word from Nintendo that on September 13, 2012, they’ll be hosting a Wii U preview event in New York. We don’t know many more details than that, but we can only assume that after that event, we’ll know an official launch date and MSRP.
Nintendo claims the event will talk about “how the Wii U will change the future of gaming and entertainment.” Optimistic marketing mumbo-jumbo like that makes us giggle, but we’ll give Nintendo a fair shot at backing those words up. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime (whose last name means “beloved son” in French), will be hosting the media event, and we’re hoping he makes good on his promise to have the Wii U launched by the end of 2012.
The latest rumors surrounding the Wii U hint at the possibility that Nintendo may miss the all-important Black Friday deadline. For their sake, we’re hoping they don’t. Looking at history, Nintendo released the Wii on November 19th and the GameCube on November 18th, so if Nintendo stays true to form, our money is on a release day right around there.
We’ll keep you informed as we find out more!
