More Dead Space 2 Help

Blurry Dead Space

From the looks of the first week’s sales, as well as the number of visitors we’re getting at, Dead Space 2 is going to be a hit.

But the success won’t be without some issues. For instance, some PC users are having trouble installing the game. Although this is technical support, and not technically a cheat or hint, we’re posting it here because it could help a large number of our users.

Tip 1: Dead Space 2 Won’t Install on PC/Windows

If you attempt to install DS2, and a black window pops open then closes right away – and then nothing, there are two things you can do. First try the following:

  1. Run msconfig (Start-> “Run” and type msconfig).
  2. Click “Startup”
  3. Select “Disable All” (to turn off all checked boxes)
  4. Click on “Services” tab
  5. Click on “Hide All Microsoft Services”
  6. Click on “Disable All”
  7. Click on “Apply All” and “Ok” to close
  8. Restart your computer

This will hopefully stop any applications or services on your computer that are interfering with the Dead Space Install. After the install succeeds, go back in and turn on the things you turned off. (You may not want to turn them all back on).

If that still doesn’t work, you can try to turn off your game controller interface. You can do this by performing:

  1. Open “Device Manager” (from Control Panel)
  2. Go to “Human Interface Devices”
  3. Right-Click on “HID Compliant Game Controller” and disable just the game controller. (don’t disable your mouse).
  4. If needed, you can also disable any other interfaces that might be causing the issue.

If your game also crashes on launch, it’s likely on of the controller devices (typically Logitech or Jumi).

Tip 2: Port Forwarding Settings for Online Play

To play Dead Space 2 Online, you’ll need to allow the following ports. How you allow them depends on your network settings (firewall, etc.), as well as any routers/switches you may use. The ports are:

  • UDP: 8088 – 28088
  • TCP: 28910, 29900, 29901

Tip 3: Location of the Peng Treasure

The Peng Treasure Gold Statue isn’t too hard to find, but we’ve had a lot of requests for it. We could do a nice write-up, but honestly, what’s easier than video hints? GameTrailers has the following:

The video should help you find it.

Tip 4: Bonuses from the Prequel (Dead Space 1)

If you have a save-game file from the first Dead Space, and start the game, and you’ll have the Refurbished Plasma Cutter. If you complete DS:Ignition in single player “Ignition Mode”, you get the Hacker Suit, a Hacker-Themed Contact Beam Weapon Skin, more audio logs, more power nodes, more health packs, and more credits.

Tip 5: Check

Over the coming days, we’ll be adding more and more cheats, tips, and tricks to the website. Check back often for the latest codes, tips, guides, and FAQs. Plus, if you think you’ve got the skills, submit your own tips.
